This woman's condition is why I sent my daughter a plane ticket from AZ to South Carolina so I can take care of her and give her the support she needs. My daughter was found passed out on the street and taken to a hospital then to a treatment center. She was released a few days ago, she's feeling good but there's a lot of healing ahead of her...

Call your adopted Dad Skye and start there. You mentioned you wished you spent more time with your parents. There are tons of emotional people that cry for things that happen to them. I cry an awful lot the week of my period. If someone tried to tell me I have and diagnosis because "I cry" or have huge empathy, I would laugh at them. Sometimes having high expectations and caring about things cause this. I know it may feel like having a baby may help or be the answer but it will only drive you deeper into depression. Not to mention the incredible amount to suffering your unresolved mental health issues would bring upon your child. You would likely lead them down the path of addiction you are on now. You can not care for a child until you can care for yourself in every sense of the word. You went trough hard ships in this life, you would rather had your mother abort you so you wouldn't suffer? Stop giving advices you won't give yourself. I'm not talking about you aborting your kids, I'm talking about the abortion being done to you. If I would had asked you before you were born if you would rather be killed by your mother in the most horrible way or go trough hardships in life I don't think your answer would had been the first option. Please don't give advices anymore, your not in a good state of mind for giving advices and continuing to believe you are able to give advices will only do more harm to you, to others and to innocent children.

If you expect that your child is going to be your best friend, you will find- more often than not- that they will be your worst enemy. It is not your child’s responsibility to make you feel less alone. It is not your child’s responsibility to entertain you or quell the existential boredom.
I love my child beyond comprehension and while we are friends, there is a power dynamic that supersedes friendship.

My mother was exactly the same way. This woman sets off my piece of shit alarm if I'm honest. She's doing her best to look innocent here and downplay the bullshit she does. If she's admitting to stealing, being "rude", and admitted she is an emotional vampire with that little "I want a baby so it'll be my best friend" line. This young lady reminds me in many ways of my daughter who also suffered from BPD. She lost her struggle with addiction and homelessness due to an overdose on March 23rd at age 45 after 20+ years of drug addiction and 10 years of homelessness. While my daughter preferred opiates or meth, and alcohol in a pinch, she would do any substance to get high, including canned air and cough syrup. She, too, could never really explain how she felt at any given time but always seemed to be a little bit sad. Nor could she explain why she consistently made one bad decision after the other even tho she was acutely aware of right and wrong. She carried a lot of guilt. As a younger person she was so talented in many areas, very outgoing with a wicked sense of humor and had a genius IQ. She was a coloratura soprano. Such a waste of a valuable person. She once told me that she loved drugs more than anything else in the world, including own her kids, whom she was unable to raise herself. It was hard to hear but I appreciated her honesty. She also said that she did not want to live if she could not have drugs or alcohol. I am grateful to have heard from Skye today. I wish her and her dad all the best. I mostly wish I had the answer.

We need to be breaking down stigmas like this against mental illness and addiction. Although some traits of personality disorders can be toxic, they are many times beautiful, creative, intuitive, intelligent, compassionate people that just feel extremes of emotion almost all the time which makes many of them extremely empathetic. It is a very hard thing to live with but it can be worked around and with a lot of self-reflection, therapy and possibly medication people with BPD can and do live meaningful and productive lives. A person with BPD can learn to understand themselves and take steps to get better. My husband struggles sometimes with severe depressive episodes but he is also the most empathetic, golden-hearted man I have ever met who only has good in his heart. Before I went to therapy, I started by listening to podcasts about childhood trauma and BPD. Sometimes it was callers calling in with issues and hearing their issues helped me work through mine. Skye if you can do that, start there and find a shelter. Get yourself on a list for free therapy but in the meantime, start with podcasts that can help you. You can get through this. I never thought I would get through mine. I’m happily married with a child. You can do this.
Medication doesn’t typically help BPD. You need to work through your childhood issues and trauma. That’s the only way to get control of it.

The red flag here is the combination of being diagnosed with BPD at age 7 (SEVEN!!) as well as the frequency she states that she was "adopted by someone so great" ... I'm so sad for her and the neglect she must have undergone as an infant and young child that led her to the attachment issues she states that she's always struggled with. It wouldn't surprise me if she actually grew up acting/behaving/masking constantly that "everything is fine" in order to keep her mom and step father from going off. Those with BPD frequently idealize and romanticize relationships with people, and it feels to me that's what she's doing with the idealization of her childhood ...

Mark, please ask Skye to try Schema Therapy. Her father leaving is the cause of her problems. Like she said: abandonment issues and feelings of emptiness. Skye has a wounded inner child. This is usually characterised by intense feelings of emptiness, helplessness and hopelessness. The emptiness is caused by that initial lack of love and that emptiness drives the addiction.
Low self-esteem, feeling "not good enough" or "defective" leads to her believing she will be abandoned. Subconsciously, she believes she's at fault for her father's abandonment.
Schema Therapy will be a game changer.
EMDR can help a lot to desensitise the pain of the abandonment, too.
Please, please share this with her, Mark.

Therapy with a psychologist can be literally life changing for you. Finding medications that work for you will take a little time, but please push through. Be honest with your psychologist and they can find what works for you. Life is so much better once you make the first steps. You and your dad will be so much closer. You will be amazed how much help he can be. Your dad loves you and it's time for you to love yourself. I think your BPD is severe ans using cleaner is making it worse. Just keep trying. I’m very sorry about loosing your mother. It’s wonderful she had you to care for her in spite of what an all consuming job that is. You gave up your life to give her a good life. Few people would do that. I’ve been a caregiver for many years. I can understand how difficult a job that is. When it’s your loved one, the job takes on a whole new degree of stress. No matter what, you did an admirable job caring for your mother. There are very few who would put their lives on hold to give their all to another human being. As difficult as it was, please know that becoming a parent is even more demanding. It’s another type of caregiving relationship. It is beautiful to be a mother but it’s a giving and giving and giving of yourself lifestyle. A baby runs your life with their constant need. They Totally depend on you because they can’t do for themselves. Much like the situation you had with your mother. Setting yourself up to be the best mom you can be would be a goal to consider. Good mental health, a proper father for your baby, financial stability, a home with all the necessities and transportation are some of the things you need to have before you become a parent. Consider setting these up as goals to have the life you want. ❤❤❤
