I worked for a government fleet for 30 years, on every car, truck and anything else with a motor. We had one body guy for a fleet of over 1,000 vehicles and when he retired they closed the position. But the guy was around 60 and an absolute whiz. Everybody said nobody ever saw him work and every time you went by his shop he was sitting, or else out. But dented cars came in, new looking cars came out.
But in a way only a city worker would do them, one time my super told me to take him over a car. It had two small dents but the super only wrote up one, fix both, obviously, right? In true civil service fashion, body whiz only fixed the one he wrote up. The other dent was 6 inches away and untouched. No wonder they closed the position.

You must have a lot of confidence in your work to cut the blend right there! Great job, I love learning new things from other painters. The guy who taught me preferred to do it his own way and never took advice or new tips and tricks, which resulted in him getting into bad habits that he didn't know were bad. Luckily I had an open mind and used the lessons he taught me as a basis, and learned a lot more from guys like you who actually know why they do what they do, and not because "well that's how they told me how to do it". Complacency is what kills a good painter in this business.

I loved this comment so much that I read it 2-3 times. This is what it is all about. Being humble and able to learn from others. I always tell everyone just because I run paint society doesn’t mean I know everything. The cut off trick is pretty cool and and every trick has its place. Really appreciate you being a part of the channel!

@@PaintSociety hi Brian, nice job! I have a question, just curiosity: i need to paint just a part of the fender like you did in this video, but i already sanded the whole fender with 320 and 400 grit. What if i paint just the small part that needs paint and spray the rest with 2 layers of clear coat? let's call it a "cheap blend". What problems could i encounter after this kind of experiment?

Awesome stuff, as a self taught painter as well, trial and error, experience is invaluable. Talked to so many “trained” “schooled” painters in the past and its mind blowing on their outlook on a lot of the little circumstances and details. The one or two over the years that I ran into like yourself with more open mind and views I learned the most from and there’s always something or a different way to do things as you demonstrated here. Some thought I was nuts back in the day for not going into one or two more panels etc etc on repairs like this with silver... Auto painters like yourself are few and far in between man, so good at what you do yet you know and aren’t afraid to say it that when it comes to the chemistry of auto paint materials that it’s not always set in stone and doesn’t always go as planned. It’s been a while for me professionally but just about to do some personal work and it was refreshing to run into your vid 👍🏽. It makes me miss doing it regularly, kind of lol. Awesome stuff!

I had another white one with a 3 speed auto 3.1 v6 which ran pretty good too. Sadly I know 2 of the 3 are in a junkyard now. In Germany We do it just very simple, you apply just 2x paint only at that spot and the 3rd time you just Fog the Area, the Fog is going to blend the new paint with the old paint let it dry and apply the clear coat
We never had any issue and it’s very simple method

    Dear Brian
I am watching your videos when i have time and I have learnt a lot from your videos.
One thing that catch my attention is that your videos are all about paint, re-paint, coating..etc against to entire panel.
So, Please make a video about Paint or Re-Paint size of a cell phone in any panel.
How can we fix small area and blend/match to rest of panel, Instead of re-paint entire panel for area of dime.
This video definitely will help a lot.
    Please keep up good works.
