    Love my Sandman L. Super tough and works well on 5.56, 300BLK, and .308. Zero issues, it is built like a tank. Not the lightest on the market, but TOUGH and DURABLE.

    I shot about 300rds of 243 Winchester 1500 rounds of 556 through my Sandman K before I decided to clean it via plastic media blasting. It had built up enough carbon between the front cap and baffle the inner recess was completely filled the baffle looked flat.
    It cleaned up easily and still works like a charm, I really love this can, the durability of it's construction, and the user serviceability.
    Rock On DA

    My sandman S just came in after being in ATF jail for 8.5 months. August 9, 2022 is when I payed for it and April 21, 2023 is when it got approved. The brake looks like a nice addition. Especially for night vision shooting to keep that flash to a minimum.

      The brake makes flash worse, I think you mean the three prong flash hider cap, which does help with flash. The brake is nice for reducing recoil (I got it for my Sandman-S) but it makes it louder again, really kind of a waste of money overall, I will never use it

    What are your thoughts on the Sierra 5 vs sandman S? I want the S for the caliber versatility but I will mostly use it on a 556 11.5” home defense rifle. Is the Sierra THAT much better for 556 or are they pretty close?
    Side note: I can’t wait to get a dead air can someday! I’d been waiting years for one (had my gun built just for it all I need is the can now) and I was hoping to order the S 2 months ago. My wife and I just moved to florida and I landed my first good paying career level job. She made a deal with me that once I got this job I could order a sandman s. Well as god would have it we moved and our dog came down with lymphoma 2 weeks before we left Colorado. So my wife stayed home with the dog and I worked 2 jobs to support us so the doggo could have a all she needed during her last moments. It kinda wrecked my opportunity for the foreseeable next couple years now that we are saving for a house and hopefully a baby. But that’s ok, one day I’m so getting a dead air can and it will be worth all the waiting. Love your guy’s content! Keep it coming!

    Anything wrong with using your muzzle brake with the K or S, (potentially with the flash hider front cap?) I'm trying to build a pin & weld 13.7 upper to Cali-compliant rules, with the idea of being able to use the same build with a can after moving to a free state, (Or if the stars align and the laws change.)

    • @user-mj1vb8jr6j
      @user-mj1vb8jr6j 2 года назад

      No problem with using dead air muzzle break on the k or s can. It’s my understanding that the muzzle break is actually less abusive to the can than the flash hider is. This is because the break acts as a sacrificial baffle while the flash hider actually imparts stronger concussion onto the can. I had the same question when I went with my flash hider, thinking the hider would be easier on the can than the break would. Turns out the hider is tougher than the break lol. But I have an 11.5” 556 and I imagine the break is ungodly as the flash hider is concussive enough by itself. Anywho if you order the can most it comes with a break in the package. I’ve seen some come with a hider but those seem to be more rare. Point being the break is good to go

  • @mstone6210
    @mstone6210 Год назад +1

    Is there any specific reason the shim kits for the brakes and FHs are constructed the way they are? The small ones (likely an older design) fold over themselves if a barrel shoulder is too small and the big ones turn into razor blades (they stick up further than the flats used for torquing down). I had to use a shim kit from Precision Armament to get the job(s) done.

    • @Shep01
      @Shep01 Год назад +1

      pro tip... once you got the right number of shims and time to torque/tighten i would wrap tape around them to keep them centered and together... you could enough do this for them on to the brake so they are lined up and centered on the break vs hangin low on one side and high on the other. Also it will avoid sharp edges and give a cleaner even look.

    • @mstone6210
      @mstone6210 Год назад +1

      @@Shep01 So the shims that came with the DA can I got had a larger diameter than the barrel I was using. This left a little razor edge all the way around which was exacerbated on the sides with the wrench flats. Oddly, the shims I got with another DA brake I bought later were different. They were a slightly smaller diameter, so I didn't have the previous bloodletting issue rear its ugly head. Your trick definitely works for most applications. Thanks for the reply!

    • @Shep01
      @Shep01 Год назад +1

      @@mstone6210 I do recall the shims being rather thin and sharp but I must have had enough to not experience the issue. I was however sad they weren't black to match the barrel and brak but ya. It would be expensive to parkerize etc so I get it.

      Full Stellite baffle stack in Sandman vs Stainless Steel in Nomad. Nomad is slightly lighter. Sandman is more durable due to the Stellite and a friggin tank of a can. Sandman is smaller in diameter than the Nomad, so you can find a few rails out there if you like that tucked in look.

      Felt recoil (and I do a SHIT ton of testing with all kinds of rifles always trying to eke out the best performance) is close to the same with a dead air keymo brake as with the Sandman-S on the rifle. With the flash hider, you don’t get the brake effect, so when you put the Sandman-S on over the flash hider only then do you feel the brake effect of the suppressor. The dead air brake does not add to the brake effect at all when the suppressor is mounted. Neither one effects gas blowback any differently. you are going to get blow back the same no matter what.

      @@stevensaldivar4286 I shot all three back to back. I thought the Sierra had the best flash reduction and sound overall but it was the gassiest indoors. The K was the flashiest with good noise reduction but the S was the best overall. I had ebrakes on all of them with a 5.56 endcap on the K. Can’t wait for the Sierra 5 and Sandman K to get out of NFA Jail. I’m unbiased because I own all of them but I also have a 10.5 and 16inch Sig 516. Lots more trial and error to come. I appreciate your input.

      @@dasboot9471 I respectfully disagree, I have a K and an S. I have an Ebrake on both. The K is phenomenal on a 12-14.5 and above. It sounds like an S as long as you have an E brake. It’s one of my favorite cans. I also have 2 Wolverines and a Sierra 5. They are all out of NFA jail right now.

      @@dasboot9471 it’s Rare that we see any replies before during and/or after cans are applied for and picked up. Let me state the following. I picked up my Sierra 5 and had the mount pinned and welded by cwgunwerks immediately. My 1st outdoor shooting session with the can happened 5/22/23. It was on a 10.5 piston Sig 516. The H2 braided wire Sig on the suppressed setting was not enjoyable. The H3 with the braided wire spring was incredible. Not gassy, reliable and just overall vindicating.

      I know they’ve been out for awhile but SilencerShop has had them backordered ever since, so I’m just curious to know when they will be back in stock places. Congrats on your sandman. What was your total wait time??

      @@Marsburnsred ah, gotcha. My LGS has them in stock in TN, so I wasn't aware that SS was backorder. I got lucky and on my eform4 I waited a total of 88 days for approval, and picked my can up on the 89th day. So right at the 90 estimated wait time. I've heard of people getting theirs back in less than 60 days, or waiting 5 months or more though, so it's all over the place.

      That is a very high speed supersonic crack you are hearing
      Out of the end of your broomstick..suppressors cannot make that crack any quieter because it is literally the bullet moving through the air outside of the weapon. Although I will say a longer or larger suppressor with more volume will continue to reduce the boom as well.

    They suck. Save your money and just get a blast can. Works ok on .22 but anything larger is a joke. You can use subsonic ammo but if I wanted a pellet rifle , I'd have bought one. In my opinion, it's an overpriced blast can.
