Suppressor Back Pressure Test: Huxwrx, SilencerCo, Dead Air, KGM, Surefire, & More

- A good suppressor isn't determined just by sound reduction, back pressure plays a huge roll in how your rifle will function (or not function) once a suppressor is attached. In this video we tested 22 different suppressors with a 16" AR15 using PMC XTAC 5.56 55gr to determine the amount of back pressure each suppressor creates. We utilized the Riflespeed gas control system, which allows 12 levels of adjustment, to determine the amount of adjustment needed to reliably obtain bolt hold open. See the list below for a full list of all the suppressors tested.

I was having fomo thinking this channel had been putting out quality content like this for years. Turns out they are just getting started. Very well done.
Haha, yeah we just started a couple weeks ago. Thanks for watching, much more to come! 🍻
hahah we are a new channel, thanks for joining us! Thank you for your support and positive feed back!
Good on Huxwrx for really creating a giant leap forward in suppressor tech. They deserve the profits they’re getting because of that… but man, I’m not going to be mad when the patents expire and there can be some more affordable flow-through competition, either 😂
totally!! Thanks for your positive comments and support!
yes! also they are not too quiet
Well you hit my algorithm which is good news. Shows you have a very bright future ahead.
thank you for your comments and support !! yes we were at 4/5k and in the last 12 hours jumped to 10k so YT has ID's us.
Yeah I agree. Good to see more suppressor content on youtube.
😂 that's funny. Great comment.
Thank you! the votes here seem to count
Not a single CGS or CAT can… the KGMs are awesome though and the info and the video is appreciated. Thanks for the video
please email them and let them know you want their cans tested by us. we have messaged them both with no response
I'm a suppressor addict&and looking forward this new channel
Thanks, we have plenty more on the way!
awesome !! thanks for the positive feed back!!!more to come!
I'm interested in getting my first suppressor. This was extremely helpful and solidified my choice to go with Huxwrx. Thank you!
Back pressure is highly important, but not that high back pressure cans may be a bit quieter. There are trade-offs to be aware of. We'll be doing a video on sound suppression in the near future.
You can't go wrong with that. I have 2 of them and you'd be surprised how well the 5.56k Flow works. Its probably my favorite one I own.
glad we could help! thank you for your comments and support
You should take a look at the Silencer Co Velos LBP
@@noway6633 we have one on the way for testing
Haven't heard of you guys until now, but this was a very professional and concise presentation. Please continue the quality and format. I have a Ventum for my Tavor 7.
HI, yes we are about 2 months old, this channel. we have much more posted and much more to come!
Enjoy the binge-ing now.
@@jasonrad9332 😁
I'm shocked I was able to find a comprehensive video with measured back pressure of my incredibly old AAC SDN6, kuddos to you on this, you made my week. i'm fairly certain this back pressure was causing all kinds of roughness in all of my guns over the years and I had no idea.
Yeah, Rob's been deep into suppressors for many years. Glad you found the video helpful, we have lots of educational videos to come including how to mitigate back pressure, so stay tuned!.
hahahha old school like me.. Thank you for your feed back and positive comments.
Really appreciate all of the time, money, and effort to do this testing!
Thank you, it's taken years to build the collection but the wait times have dropped dramatically in the past few months. Thanks for watching 🍻
Thank you so much! It’s definitely not a simple thing. But we do enjoy sharing to help educate the industry so that they can use their purchasing power best. We’re going to continue to provide non-biased, opinions, and educational content. Make sure you like and subscribe. Thank you so much for your positive feedback andcomments
😂 "And you're not wrong" great intro. By far some great explanation.
😂🙌🏻🔥
This is awesome. Very grateful to you guys for putting together this sort of analysis.
Glad you enjoyed it!
thanks for posting this and spending the time on it. there's a lot to consider when it comes to diagnosing suppressors- far more than just sound reduction. Keep up the good work!
Thank you so much for your positive feedback and comments. You’re right there’s much more to consider. This is one of several topics and will be doing many more videos. Some have already been filmed and are in the editing process and some are waiting to be filmed. We also have about 17 more suppressors on the way. Thank you again for your support.
Thank you! 😃
The production quality and depth of information in this video is amazing, especially for a channel of this size. Well done!
Thanks for watching, many more videos to come!
Thank you so much for your positive feedback and support. We have many more videos in the shoot. We’re also going to be filming again this week for some more topics we’ve come up with. If you have some topics you would like to see covered. please feel free to let us know! Thank you again.
Wow, this is a super young channel. Glad to get in on the ground floor, your production looks fantastic. Just picked up my second suppressor (Griffin PSR-7 OTB). Excited for what's to come!
Thank you so much for your positive feedback and support. We did just launch this channel. We have run a few other channels, but have decided to commit to suppressors specifically. This is a topic of which I am very passionate, and I am very excited to share with this very niche audience. Thank you so much for your support and hopping on early with us. Really interesting to see so many direct comparisons on tis topic.
Thank you! 😃
Great results of suppressor comparison. My #1 is back pressure, then sound.
100% agree with you. For me, I initially was in search of compact, Hollywood small. Then I wanted quiet. Now I’ve moved on to don’t have negative effects on my rifle. Which basically means Back pressure has become my greatest priority now.
Me too. Unless I’m shooting .22 LR or subsonic .300 BLK, I’m going to be wearing ear pro pretty much no matter what. Which means I’m protected from sound. If it greatly reduces sound and flash signature, (which the huxwrx does), but also keeps me from breathing in toxic gasses and keeps my rifle running great, I’m happy.
Thank you! 😃
A suggestion for future testing: once you’re down to setting 1, swap out to progressively longer plungers in the Riflespeed gas block until you start to lose bolt hold open. That way, you can still rank all the super high backpressure suppressors in order of severity.
Great video. Thank you for putting in the effort to test!
have you looked up their vid on how to do that?
@@Ertactical No, but do you find swapping plungers to be particularly difficult?
@@shootinbruin3614 look at the RS web page and find the vids on how to do it.. tell us if you see someone you know...
@@SilencerSyndicate Lmao hi there Rob. That's like the 4th channel I've seen you in I think. Suggestion still stands though, using progressively longer plungers after you've run out of adjustment allows you to rank the highest backpressure suppressors beyond just saying they're all Setting 1. Since each plunger size is worth two adjustment settings, you can go back to Setting 2 when changing plunger size to get the same granularity of testing
762 Flow Ti has blown away my expectations. Worth the money.
glad you like yours! I wish they were a little quieter

me too, but i want both! hahah i am greedy! thank you for your support! =)
Great video! If you ever get your hands on an AB suppressor I would love to see the same analysis. They are supposed to be reduced back pressure because of the special baffle design as well as the ability to add a reflex to increase the volume of the blast chamber.
Thank you! 😃
Good video! I think there could be a number of other variables when considering a can as well. This was an awesome test, and I'm not at all taking away from it. Bu I also think back pressure vs cost vs weight vs mounting would be also a good video. A low backpressure can that costs $1200+, and add $200 - $400 of mounting accessories and muzzle devices vs. a mid to high backpressure can that costs $499 - $800 and still needs those mounting accessories plus a $50 H3 buffer could help people make decisions as well.
For me, I'm good with gas and backpressure since the ways to mitigate them are very inexpensive, and things like gas busting charging handles (Breek Warhammer for instance) are something that people generally change from milspec anyway.
Anyway..great video. And something the community needed!
Thank you so much for your accurate and honest review. I appreciate your support very much. I too initially did not much care about back pressure. In the beginning I wanted Hollywood small. So I spent my time with mini cans, then I wanted super quiet, so I started by larger, full-size or L cans. Then after a while, I got tired of the behavior of the weapon and started getting much more interested in low back pressure suppressors so that I could put them on any suppress system without having issues. Now I care very much about back pressure so that I can have weapons behave the way they’re supposed to and not need to mitigate problems that occur shortly after adding a suppressor.you are correct, there are many more topics to investigate before buying a suppressor, this is just one of the topics. Much more to follow on some of the other topics and some of our test results. Thank you for your positive feedback again.
Thank you! 😃
This is honestly so educational

I'd like to see the back pressure results vs noise reduction to understand where the "sweet spot" is, assuming a compromise must be made.
That's definitely on the to-do list. Thanks for watching and contributing to the discussion 🍻
yes good call. the issue is the the best way we can read sound is a DB reader and we have that secluded with a tech to help us do so. the truth is tho, they read volume not sound so it can we the same volume on the radio but one voice is more offensive to the ears than another. we are going to find another way to test and I think I know how we will do it.. stayed tuned for more! thank you for your comments and support

totally! those are GASY! I love my MK18s but wow! yes the HUX is solid, i just did a side by side with it and the SF RC3 both did not gas me out on my 10.3 when firing 10 rounds as fast as i can. the BT can should also work well. I should have it within the week for testing! i hope this helps!

I would like to see a side by side comparison of back pressure to sound suppression. Im curious if lower back pressure actually means quiter sound? Obviously, lower back pressure is more user friendly and adjustable!
Yes! we have that video coming in the not too distant future.
yes we have a DB guy filming with us very soon! i cant wait to see as well
AGREED because huxwurx are not very quiet in my range opinion
Does low back preasure correlate to louder can?
Good question, realistically, yes. But not necessarily. In other words, if you were to compare the surefire RC to to the surefire, RC three, the RC two being a non-flow through design is quieter than the RC three. However, it’s only by a few decibels. Most people can’t hear the difference between the two. Having said that I definitely choose the RC three over the RC two. As for the other flow through designs, some of them are in fact louder. It’s kind of a safe thing to say that if it has a flow through design, it won’t be quite as quiet.in the end, it really depends on your mission as an operator, or as a consumer, as to which suppressor is best for you. We will be making a video on many more topics regarding how to select a good suppressor. Most often it comes down to the individual needs, and not just a simple cart launch which one is best. Thank you for your questions your comments and positive support.
can be but these days we are finding ways around that.. the HUX are LOUD!
Great video, lots of amazing information !!
Thanks, we appreciate you!
thank you for the positive feed back!
Great video. Far and away my Dead Air Nomad-L is the best performer in terms of sound suppression, but it’s also the most restrictive. The back pressure is so high that I had to buy the E-Brake flow through end cap just to be able to get my AR’s to cycle properly. In addition to swapping for a heavy buffer, heavy spring, and major gas block tuning.
yes, i am not a fan of them at all! have several clients with them and they are not great cans. We will be making another vid on how to mitigate back pressure, thank you for your support! =)
Thank you! 😃
This is good video. Now, this is mainly American thing. In Europe we don't shoot 399.948.392.394.029 rounds per range session so it's really no big deal for us, but if you are American, it is something that you should pay attention.
Thanks for watching!
This comment wins lmao
I live in Europe and I disagree.
@@SOTB69 You also don't have to wait 18 months to get your suppressor after buying it. For us it is very important to do a lot of research before buying because it takes so long to actually aquire one.
Perhaps you don’t, but European shooters who are serious about training certainly do. There are plenty of them.
Also your volume leveling is very low. I had to turn on the captions so I could tell what you were saying.
Yes, we noticed that too after it posted. Thank you for your feedback and support and will try to get the volume turned up on the next one.
Great video. Good information.
Thanks for watching 🍻
Man great content. Subbed!
thank you =)
This video is completely flawed because its framing back pressure as an objectively bad thing. If you have an adjustable block, then back pressure isnt an issue. And if you want to be serious about running a suppressor then you definitely should have an adjustable gas block, especially if you plan to run different rounds like subs vs supers. Flow through cans are nice in some ways but they are definitively louder than non flow through cans which is a pretty significant trade off when we are talking about a device whos entire purpose is to reduce sound.
Thank your for contributing your perspective. While we feel back pressure is an important issue, we'll all be touching on other subjects like you mentioned in future videos. There's a lot to cover and we're just getting started. Thanks for watching!
You are right in with the statement of the video is deeming back pressure negative, it’s not always a bad thing and adjustable gas blocks help a little. The actual reason for silencers is to prevent muzzle flash. They don’t always 100% stop it but in most cases they do a pretty good job. Which is funny because it’s literally called a silencer but sound suppression is only a side effect from adding baffles.
yeah, back pressure is not a bad thing. like water. water is good, un less you are on a sinking ship in the ocean then water is not so good. most are not mitigating back-pressure so it is like sinking on a boat. most rifles are made to over gas a little to help keep reliable function when dirty or adverse conditions so more is normally, yes, bad. thank you for you feed back and look forward to the vid about exactly what you mentioned on adjustable gas blocks and the problems that can come from them as well as how dif ones work! thank you for your comments and support
Not a word said about decibels this is kinda deceiving to those who are new to the game.
Thanks, we'll have a video out on sound suppression in the not too distant future.
Not to those who know how to read video titles.
this video wasnt about sound suppression so why would decibels matter?
@@MSSynsyterGates ^This guy knows how to read video titles. Unlike the OP.
