Always brings a tear to my eye when Dell says Marie has been dead for eight years. And the way he delivers that line with such believability and sadness.
I love this scene , too. I like the way Steve Martin reacts and then the beautiful song starts.❤
Steve Martin at the rental car desk has been my entire mood for all of 2021.
😂
what u tlkn bout'? lol, steves "luck" is my whole yr lololol
Eeeeasy big guy....EEEEEZY chill😉
I’ve been that way for years.
@@TheMovieJourney ayy, nice to see u here
I love the symbolism of Del’s trunk. It’s his personal emotional baggage and by the end Neal is gladly helping him to carry it.
Being around during this era---the "I...I like me" speech has probably been the most memorable, and a message that stands the test of time.
I could not agree more, it was an absolutely unexpected but beautiful message; something that most people nowadays really need to hear.
The Kevin Bacon cameo wasn't planned. He was shooting another John Hughes production, "She's Having A Baby" in New York at the same time this movie was on location there. From my understanding, that sequence was put together quickly, as the producers thought it would be funny.
They were right, it was funny.
It's a cameo that helped create the old game '6 degrees of Kevin Bacon' since Kevin was in a ton of movies.
And Bacon’s father-in-law in She’s Having a Baby is the ad exec studying the giant print.
And there is audio from that movie when the wife is watching tv alone.
One of my favorite parts is the portrayal of Neal realizing he knows Del from taking the cab. For that quick shot, they actually put a cab door in front of John Candy on the airport set, to which he mugged for all he was worth.
Fun Fact: the scene where Neil goes off at the car rental lady was the scene that sold it for Steve Martin to take the role.
John Candy & Bobsleds - > Cool Runnings
John Candy & Dan Ackroyd - > The Great Outdoors
John Candy & Richard Pryor - > Brewster's Millions
John Candy deep cut - > Who's Harry Crumb?
I love and miss John Candy, a National Treasure for sure.
John Candy & Kids - > Uncle Buck
Just reading this list made me laugh. Love all these.
John Candy is also really funny in Splash.
@@zapan101313 Yeah, I was thinking ...John Candy & tools - > Uncle Buck, but they were already talking about it so I left if off.
John Candy + Entitled Landlord + Rip Torn-----> Summer Rental
My favorite quote "If I wanted a joke, I'd follow you into the john and watch you take a leak."
Steve Martin and John Candy encapsulated the Laurel and Hardy blueprint born in the golden age of Hollywood better than any other duo.
This movie literally is a comedy masterclass with a heartfelt ending
“You got a better chance playing pick up sticks with your butt cheeks than getting a flight out of here tonight.”
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
When the cigarette landed in the backseat, both you guy’s eyes just widened exactly the same way exactly the same time, that was brilliant comedy that you couldn’t replicate in a million years XD
Uncle Buck is another great feel-good movie. You should definitely check it out! 💗
So many people have been doing reactions to this movie lately because of the holidays and it made me want to watch this movie for the first time after years of hearing great things about it. It was amazing and I thoroughly enjoyed it. They don’t make comedies like this anymore. Great review as always guys!
One of the major films of my childhood. Loved it. John Candy, he was an 80s icon, you knew you were getting something heartwarming & funny, still gutted hes gone.
One of the best comedies of all time. Scene after scene of gold and a lovely payoff at the end. Perfect 👍
I like how Neil lives in the McCallisters house from Home Alone.
yeah, Kevin Bacon had a cameo in this. the thing is, Kevin was filming a movie called She's Having a Baby at the time, and you see this same exact scene in it, but from Kevin's POV, with Steve Martin in a cameo in that!
Great reaction guys! 1987 was a phenomenal year for cinema. It had:
Predator,
Robocop,
Lethal Weapon,
Raising Arizona,
The Lost Boys,
Fatal Attraction,
Empire of the Sun,
Full Metal Jacket,
Withnail and I,
Evil Dead II,
Hellraiser,
Plains Trains and Automobiles
Don’t forget The Untouchables, because without that…you got NOTING’!!! 😂
Stakeout
Beverly Hills Cop 2
Revenge Of The Nerds 2
The Running Man
Overboard
The Hidden
Bloodsport
The Secret Of My Success
Adventures In Babysitting
Three Men and A Baby
Fatal Beauty
Ernest Goes To Camp
Three O'clock High
Cocktail
Batteries Not Included
The Gate
Please consider GRUMPY OLD MEN (1993). Burgess Meredith is pure comedy gold. A great holiday movie
Watching this and I realized how much it reminds me of David Spade and Chris Farley in "Tommy Boy". Same quirky relationship between characters on a road trip.
The first time I saw it, that car rental scene was one of the funniest things I had ever seen in my entire life. Seriously, I was in tears laughing soooo hard. :D
My father literally turned purple in the face during that scene!
You guys gotta watch more John Candy movies - He was a special talent
Makes me miss John Candy. I was old enough to love his movies, but too young to really understand the loss when he died.
Everyone blames Del for being the bad luck, but Neal was there at every step. Neal was also the grouch energy of the movie, where Del was the "make the best of a bad situation" energy.
This is a film you can ritually watch once a year--it's always a pleasure to spend time with Neal and Del. The set-pieces are terrific in that each one defines the characters; on the bus, no one except Neal knows the classic 'Three Coin In A Fountain' but Del instinctively understands everyone, young and old, can sing 'The Flintstones'. And Neal bringing Del home for Thanksgiving is akin to Scrooge being transformed on Christmas Day. How great is this movie? It's so great, Roger Ebert put it on his Great Movies list.
You definitely need to watch Uncle Buck....it's such a great movie. John Candy was an amazing, lovable person.
John Candy was also great in "Splash" with Tom Hanks.
And Volunteers!
Another great funny Steve Martin movie is "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels", guaranteed you'll like it.
"Why is the cork on the fork?"
Check out Parenthood, it’s directed by Ron Howard and has Steve Martin leading an absolute stacked cast including a young Keanu Reeves and a very young Joaquin Phoenix.👍😂
Didn't know Phoenix was in Parenthood 😳
💯 One of the best ever!
One of my all time favorites! When you're sliding into first.....
Rick Moranis was great in it too
@@TheMovieJourney - I think he was still going by Leaf then. He played Gary, the troubled brother of the girl who married Keanu Reeves.
The Great Outdoors is a good John Candy movie.
One of the greatest movies of the 1980's!
How did you guys not shed a tear when Del revealed the truth about himself? I've seen this movie countless times, and that scene gets me every time, even though I know it's coming!
Ive never shed a tear for that scene in this movie or for any scene in any movie. I can seperate the difference between real sadness and movie sadness.
@@e.jamesshepard7183 wow you sound like such a badass
@@CygnusVoyager he’s like a superhero, The Non Crying Man.
Absolutely watch Uncle Buck! It's hilarious! I also love him in Cool Runnings, and The Great Outdoors with Dan Aykroyd.
A deleted scene explains why Neils wife always looks on the brink of tears. She thought he was cheating on her, up until she meets Dell.
Also, the highway patrol scene was longer according to Michael McKean(the officer). Neil punches Dell in the eye, thats why whe Dell shows up in the big-rig he has the black eye.
That makes so much sense now, I always felt like she looked like she was assuming something like that and it was why she looked so heartbroken all the time
@@OctoKrool in the original cut when they were pulled over it was established that they’d overshot Chicago & were in Wisconsin, but that dialogue from the officer was cut from the final version.
This movie is pure gold, one of my all time faves..it's a Thanksgiving tradition in our family 👌 "Those aren't 2 pillows!!" 🤣😭🤣🤣
Kevin Bacon's cameo had him reprise his role in "She's Having a Baby" as an Easter egg. Later in the film, Neal and Del have the TV on in the hotel room and the movie playing was, "She's Having a Baby".
There is a script breakdown that covers the original script. The dude that broke in and robbed them is actually the pizza boy and he robbed them because of Dells awful tip. It's a great watch
DUDES, I literally lost my shit uncomfortably laughing when you said "Everything he touches DIES!" because, ya know...the ending. :P
Yeah, that was such a coincidence; I connected the dots after filming and we laughed about it so much lol
John Candy was one of a kind, there will never be another one like him.
Uncle Buck is hilarious. You guys would probably love it.
Steve Martin and Goldie Hawn also play off each other really well. I recommend Housesitter.
The reason they got robbed was because Dell didn't tip the pizza guy. In a deleted scene, they got pizza delivered and Dell paid for the pizza using Neil's wallet. But Neil only has big bills, which Dell shows the delivery guy, so he can't tip him because he doesn't have change. So the delivery guy comes back at night and robs them.
Here’s your John Candy playlist; Uncle Buck, Summer Rental, The Great Outdoors, Only the Lonely, Who’s Harry Crumb?, Delirious, Cool Runnings, Spaceballs, Canadian Bacon.
One of my favorite comedies of all time. Glad you didn't wait until next Thanksgiving to watch it. Definitely check out Uncle Buck!
The family man is a GREAT christmas movie. Nicholas Cage movie very heartwarming!
I never saw it as a Christmas movie. Love it so much ❤
Check out the movie Silver Streak with Gene Wilder and Richard Pryor
Classic
This is one of the most hilarious movies ever - until the last 5 minutes makes you cry. Love watching comedies with the 2 of you, you’re the bestest ❤
I know exactly how Neil feels through a good chunk of this film. I’ve always been a magnet for people like Dell. It used to piss me off, but as I’ve grown older I’ve learned to live with it. Everybody's got their own deal, no point getting bothered.
In other words, you're Dell.
Another few hilarious John Candy movies - The Great Outdoors (with Dan Aykroyd). Splash! (with Tom Hanks) and Who's Harry Crumb (with Jeffrey Jones).
You wanna laugh your balls of ..Stir Crazy with Richard Pryor and Gene Wilder. A classic comedy.
Steve Martin’s reaction to the guy spitting tobacco and wiping his hand before shaking his hand was a legitimate one. They kept doing take after take and John Hughes wasn’t getting a good reaction from Steve so he told the guy to spit, wipe his mouth and shake Steve’s hands to gross him out a little. And then they got the money shot.
John Candy was the best Canadian comedian ever.
Steve Martin at the car rental place was hilarious af. Another msg I got from this movie is. Just because you're having Abad day you shouldn't take it out on other people, if you noticed Steve Martin's character had a bad attitude and bad luck followed him.
Yeah, I think you'll like "THE JERK" starring Steve Martin. I used to always watch it when it was on....when I used to watch TV back in the day.
I’m so glad to see you guys watching this movie!! It’s one of my absolute favorite comedies ever.
Uncle Buck is great!!!
as an italian, this is the only american film (along with Deconstructing Harry by Woody Allen) that has ever made me cry with laughter
Best use of cursing in a movie ever. No contest.
3:49 - Because he just finished making She's Having a Baby with John Hughes. In fact, Steve Martin's wife is watching She's Having a Baby during one scene.
Uncle buck is on par with this one, a great old movie 😁 and Thanks for loving me more than my mum 😁😍🤣
no hate here, you guys are becoming two of my favorite reactors. just keep doing what you're doing just the way you're doing it.
A great Steve Martin movie that I love is Three amigos- also stars snl people and Martin short and Chevy chase before he was didn't care. Yes the Great outdoors with John is awesome!
John Candy's also pretty great in Rookie Of The Year!
I'll check it out man 😁
So happy yall are watching this! I'm gonna have to join the Patreon! Definitely need to check out for Christmas = Mixed Nuts, Reindeer Games, National Lampoons Christmas Vacation, Edward Scissorhands (I consider it Christmas lol). And also if you haven't seen John Candy in Uncle Buck, Stripes, Cool Runnings and Summer Rental you DEFINITELY need to!
this is a John Hughes film... he made many many great eel good films in the 80's and early 90's. most of his films are treasured... 16 candles, some kind of wonderful, Ferris Beullers' day off, pretty in pink, the breakfast club, and of course Uncle Buck...candy's finest performance...
If you look closely, Kevin Bacon has a cameo in every movie since 1938
Great reaction! John Candy brought tears to my eyes.
The policeman who pulled car over , played chuck on better call Saul , and In spinal tap, and many more
Yep, Michael McKean - fantastic actor! 😁
@@eighthdoctor yes , I drew a blank trying to think of his real name , only thought of Lenny from lavern and Shirley, 🤣🤣🤣 showing my age , my wife seen on Broadway and said he was magnificent,
My 2 favorite comedic actors are in this one... Steve Martin, and (Briefly) Michael Mckean!
If you liked this movie you should check out The Great Outdoors. It has John Candy, Dan Aykroyd and Annette Bening and is absolutely hilarious.
Another underrated John Candy movie is "Only The Lonely." A Rom-Com with Candy, Ally Sheedy, Jim Belushi and the late Maureen O'Hara
The great outdoors with John Candy and Dan Aykroyd is a great movie
Yes please watch "Uncle Buck" it's a great comedy with John Candy.RIP.
There are people who hate you guys? F them. You guys are terrific. I absolutely enjoy the hell out of every one of your videos. You guys are clearly good hearted, down to earth dudes. Stay real.
*#FYI* the lady at the rent-a-car desk scene was the reason this movie got an *R* rating & they refused to take it out
For more great comedic chemistry between actors, take note of Steve Martin and Michael Caine in Dirty Rotten Scoundrels.
This movie was rated R because John Hughes didn't want to cut out the scene with Steve Martin saying Fuck so many times. It's the only reason it was rated R at the time.
*John Candy & Dan Aykroyd (The Great Outdoors)*
*John Candy & Macaulay Culkin (Uncle Buck)*
What a combo of these two men! One of my all-time favorite movies. I've been a fan of John Candy ever since he was started out from Canada's comedy troupe that became Second City TV. I've been a fan of Steve Martin since he's first started out on SNL. If you guys ever going back into the archives of Second City TV. I'm not sure if you can look for certain episodes through the archives or not. I believe it's listed under The Will and Temperament"... personally I think it's hysterical & it's one of my favorite skits. This particular skin didn't have John Candy in it but it's still a great show. John Candy and quite a few other comedy greats began their careers in SCTV. SCTV actually used to be put on very late at night because it used to follow SNL.
😆💕
The bus driver with the weird voice played a security guard in one of my favorite Whoopi Goldberg movies "Jumping Jack Flash" PLEASE react to that movie.
Kevin Bacon was in the John Hughes Universe. This is a real guy's movie and has become my favorite Thanksgiving-themed film. Awesome reaction and review, guys!
One of the funniest Christmas movies to watch is Jingle All The Way starring Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sinbad. As for another comedy to watch there’s Black Sheep which stars the late great Chris Farley as well as David Spade.
Another great reaction from you guys! Yes please watch Uncle Buck next. You will not be disappointed by it!
I loved this movie. Steve Martin and John Candy are an amazing duo in this. I do watch this once a year. lol, my childhood friend's dad HATED me. 😅 I've no idea why, but that's just the way it was. I got along great with his ma and sisters though so...meh. 🍻🙂 ** Please watch Uncle Buck!! **
I wouldn't trust a person who doesn't like this movie, that says something bad about them
I love this film, and can't believe you never crossed it before. It just screams for you guys to love it, too. Best watching it after a really, really shitty day. Great therapy.
Kevin Bacon was in SHE'S HAVING A BABY, another John Hughes movie that came out a year later. So not a huge surprise that he appears in a small cameo in THIS Hughes movie. Might even be playing the same character :D
That car rental scene has 19 consecutive "fuck"s which is what gave the movie its 'R' rating.
It was totally worth it too, probably my favorite scene in the movie lol.
The John Candy dissolve as a final shot.
John Candy had done a cameo in Kevin Bacon's movie She's Having A Baby so Kevin was returning the favor.
Nobody comments on the ultimate trouser armadillo owner & rock God David StHubbins cameo as the traffic cop. 🤣 (if you know, you know 😉)
It's pretty funny how when sh#t happens both your eyes go wide at the same time.
I miss John Candy something awful...Canadian national treasure
Canadian Bacon with John Candy
and also
Once Upon A Crime with John Candy and James Belushi.
Two great movies as well.
One of my favorite comedies EVER! Doesn't matter what time of year it is, I always feel so great after.
I played Everytime You Go Away at my mums funeral, I can’t hear it anymore without breaking down.
Dutch is another Hughes Thanksgiving movie. Same premise. But with a child. Classic 80s humor.
Uncle Buck - John Candy is another Classic Fellas...also F#@K the Haters, you guys are Awesome and I'm sure I'm not the only Fan here from Auckland, New Zealand
Cheers Brutha's
Nothing but love for New Zealand, would love to visit there one day and thank you! :)
growing up and now with my husband this movie gets watched every Canadian thanksgiving. Then we usually HAVE to watch Uncle Buck.
Being a widower for going on twelve years,I can relate to Dell.
Great movie choice homies. Steve Martin and john candy together is comedic gold. One of my favorite holiday films of all time. 🤣
