Our Father, who art in Calgary, Bobsled be thy name. Thy kingdom come, gold medals won, on Earth as it is in Turn Seven. With Liberty and Justice for Jamaica and Haile Selassie. Amen. Forever an iconic prayer 😂😂
I still say that prayer 30 years later
Everyone has a different sense of humor, to me personally, that's THE dirtiest prayer ever. Plain mockery.
John Candy 1979/1994
@@noahjones3911better than the original
@noahjones3911 you must be fun at parties 🙄
I love that Jamaica still has a bobsled team that competes in every Winter Olympics- One of the best traditions
I remember actually watching when this happened (the finals with Jamaica for the first time, and the crash), live, on tv, in the Olympics back then. It was powerful and emotional even then!
"I see pride! I see power!"
Man, I love this movie. ❤
"I see a bad ass mother who don't take crap from nobody"
@@cleftheart1969 don't ever do dat again k
@@woodyjunior8681 what are you a troll with no sense of humor???? Did you not see the movie????
@@cleftheart1969 someone been kissing too many eggs
I see pride! I see Power ! I see a bad motherfuker won't take no s*** from nobody! My favorite line throughout this whole movie
"A gold medal is a wonderful thing. But if you're not enough without it, you'll never be enough with it." - Irv Blitzer, portrayed by John Candy in "Cool Runnin
RIP John. Amazing actor.
Irv Blitzer wasn’t a real person
@@actioninmyphannypack I never said he was.
@@chrisgast Oh my bad. I thought you were 😅
The actual crash footage at the end still scares me. Crazy how no one was seriously hurt. To have them finish the race in the movie by carrying the busted bobsled across the finish line was truly inspiring.
"Truly inspiring." 🙂
Did you know that crash was the actual footage from the 88 games and was not restaged?
@@Truckergunners dude was literally hanging out the blobsled😬
Holy cow, I actually didn't know that.
Real crash is even worse, yeah. NO idea how they lived.... Thought they'd done worse with the movie but no :O
The crash didn't happen for the reasons shown in the film, but it did happen. They used real footage of it in the film. One of team members later said he "felt a bump" when they tipped but did not realize they had turned over until he started to smell his helmet (which was fiberglass) friction-burning on the ice, "which is something that stays with you for many years afterward."
It's a miracle none of those guys were hurt.
The Jamaican Bobsled team was based on a true story. They didn't win at their first Olympic team. but 4 years later they were in the running for a win!
Based very very loosely on true events. The bobsledders all had different names, the coach had a different name, they didn’t carry the sled after the crash, rules weren’t changed, none of that. The only thing that was true about it was the crash
I went to Jamaica for my honeymoon and they had Jamaican bobsled team stuff everywhere. They are incredibly proud of them.
Whenever I see this movie, I'm reminded of the Brtitsh track star who tore his hamstring. His dad came from the stands (they let him) and he walked his son across the finish line.....in the Olympics.
Derek Redmond, 1992 Olympics... never forgot that moment.
Sounds pretty awesome
Back when Disney had magic ❤️
This is such a feel good, wholesome movie !!!
Disney made great movies like this.
Yes this one and Iron Will I watched alot
first time I saw this, when they carried the bobsled across the finish line on their shoulders, brought me to tears!
Seen this 20 times, still have a lump in my throat!
A Jamaican Bobsled Team still makes more sense than 2 hockey teams in Florida…. And John Candy is awesome. A Canadian comic legend from SCTV. And yes, Doug E Doug AKA Sanka was a thing back in the 90s. He was on the rebooted Cosby Show for a while.
I disagree as Florida has a good size Canadian and New England Snow Bird population.
Wasn't Doig E Doug the driver of the Jaguar that gets totalled when Keanu chases and gets on the bus in Speed?
@@mobilemechanics6565 Yea but those people are here to retire, not be mediocre at a sport that requires us to cool our arenas to temperatures we specifically live here to avoid. (lol)
@@johncampbell756 no that was that actor from South Central
@@award3321 I was way off. But that guy has 164 acting credits. Allegedly the most fir any black character actor. Cool. I thought it had something to do with the Jag's license plate, but that was just TUNE MAN.
My mom is 76 years old and this is her favourite film of all time, she wore out the VHS tape watching it and always has it on every year when the winter comes. great comments and reactions to the film and the true story. my best bit is the airport with all the clothes lol.
What has her age got to do with it?
SOUL SURFER should be next. You'll love it, it's another true story about impossible odds. Imagine a one-armed surfer, it's totally bad-assed.
@@amazingusername8925 Because it's not something you'd really expect someone of that age to be into. My mother is about to turn 70 and she's the same way. She's conservative af but for some reason she always loved this movie (she misses every single drug reference the entire movie lol)
My mum took me to see this in the cinema
Ur mom's got great taste
I’ll always love this movie. RIP Mr Candy.
This is one of my favorite movies of all time. I kept going back to the theater alone to see it in 93 when I was 19. No movie brings me to tears like this one.
"Doesn't matter about winning. Most of the times, it's never about winning alright? It's about proving to yourself that you could do something. Do better than what you ever thought."🥺 I really needed to hear that today. I had to remind myself that in spite of me trying my hardest to achieve something and still not make it, I went out and tried and went further than I ever did.
That's all that matters, it's better to try and fail then go on your whole life thinking what if? Proud of you! :)
As long as you try that is all that matters good for you!
Yuliy Borisovich Briner, known professionally as Yul Brynner, was a Russian-American actor, singer, and director, best known for his portrayal of King Mongkut in the Rodgers and Hammerstein stage musical The King and I, Most people today know him for Westworld 1973, but i know him because of cool runnings 🤣.
I knew him first as 'Pharaoh' in, The Ten Commandments.
He was also in the 1960 Magnificent Seven western film as the main billboard name actor and CBDM's 50s remake of The Ten Commandments as Pharaoh Rameses.
@@PhantomFilmAustralia Yeah, ironically that was actually a remake of an earlier Ten Commandments film by the same director, Cecil B DeMille.
Also one of the ten most successful films of all time when adjusted for inflation.
I loved the King and I... And yes, Pharaoh. That's where I knew him from, before I saw this movie.
He’s one of my favorite actors. Hope the brothers watch some of his movies here.
Always remember your bones will not break in a bobsled they shatter 😂 so motivating
"ya dead?" "yeah, mahn"
Watched this in elementary school. Was a great day.
Classic line. Sanka's one of a kind.
Brought this movie into school when I was in 4th grade for my class to watch, got to the pride power bar scene and my teacher turned it off because of the cursing, oops 😂
This movie is so wholesome, filled with heart and inspiration. The chemistry this cast had is golden. I can recall watching the 1988 Winter Olympics when the Jamaicans hit the scene with their bobsled team and it was truly the story of the year. I do recall their run and their inevitable crash and seeing them hoist their sled and trot to the finish line. Magical moment.
"Just one little drawback to this delightful winter sport: the high-speed crash..."
If you haven't seen Uncle Buck, that is a John Candy movie I'm sure you would enjoy.
Great movie along with The Great Outdoors
I love that movie! It's the best!
Nothing But Trouble is another great John Candy flick.
Uncle Buck and The Great Outdoors are awesome movies you guys really should watch him I think you would truly enjoy them
Summer Rental!
This is one of those classic "feel good" movies from the 90s. Never gets old 😊
Man, I haven't seen this movie is so long. Thanks for taking me back to my childhood. Great reaction
“How about I draw a line in the middle of your head, and make it look a butt” best comeback ever!!😂
Whenever I see this guy I think, "Check it out! It's Barbados Slim"
I saw this in high school, in class. Everyone loved it, everyone shed a tear. Great movie.
I'm a mechanic. Every time we have to push a vehicle into the shop, I yell the Cool Runnings chant
Omg I used to watch this movie so many times as a child as my family is Jamaican. This is such a nostalgic throwback
Sometimes I really miss the amazing John Candy. May he rest in peace.
I saw that one in a sneak preview at our local cinema when it came out.
The whole place was cheering for those guys.
What an amazing movie... 😍
I once sat in the REAL and movie prop bobsleds. I believe the film model is currently displayed in the Montego Bay International Airport, while the official sled was preserved in the historical museum of St. James Parish.
I'm not a big Sports movie person, but I love this 1. I also like The Replacements, Facing The Giants, & Mighty Ducks 1 & 2.
I watched it live in 88, it is my second favorite Winter Olympic sport.
More under dog stories to watch are “Glory Road” another based of a true story about an unlikely basketball team. And “Rudy” a football movie about a huge underdog! Also “Miracle” another Olympic underdog story about a hockey team!
another _true_ story.
miracle is great
Yes to both of them ❤️❤️
Man I love this movie. Watched it for the first time in school back in like 94 💪🏾
Me too!!!! Thats how I saw it, sophomore year in high school, '94.
Haven't seen this movie in years. Forgot how great it was!
This movie never gets old. So glad you reacted to it!
As a Jamaican I had to pop in to watch this reaction 😂 love this movie
A slept on Disney classic.
Splash! is another John Candy flick that I highly recommend.
Love that movie too!
Bless you both for knowing that movie! I still sheirk, "what a week I'm having!"
Spash: The movie responsible for females being called, 'Madison'.
@@PhantomFilmAustralia haha
@@PhantomFilmAustralia very cute name. I actually don't meet many Madison's anymore.
I haven’t seen this since my childhood thank you for bringing this back to memory ❤️🥺
UNCLE BUCK and THE GREAT OUTDOORS are two of John Candy’s funniest films. Love him like family.
BIG BEAR!!
🤣🤣🤣
Sadly John passed away shortly after this film was made.
I remember first seeing this movie as a teen after going to a hockey game. I was in the theater in between two girls, and at the part where the father was in the crowd and showed the shirt while cheering, I reached down to my drink in between my feet and quickly squeezed out a couple of tears.
It was the first time I remembered being watering up to a movie, and now as an adult I look back and laugh at quick thinking front I did to not let the ladies see.
This was the first movie I saw in theaters, saw it with my mom and brother. We bought the soundtrack album because my dad loves the Jimmy Cliff version of "I Can See Clearly Now" so the whole family was in on it one way or another. My brother and I still quote this movie at each other from time to time, it's very 'childhood'. Glad you picked it!
i literally have watched this movie hundreds of times (we had it on VHS in my childhood) and never noticed the guy does look like Clay Aiken lol
I also never acknowledged that Sanka was keeping up with 3 Olympic candidates. His character was my fave
Oh fuck yeah! thanks for this one! Feel the rhythm, feel the rhyme 🎵🎵
I watched this film probably a hundred times, as a child. This reaction really brought the nostalgia. And I always get emotional when the dad shows up at the final race to support his son. #coolrunnings
Even though this movie is not 100% accurate I still love it! The characters are memorable, likeable and funny, it's still a great underdog-story and you can never go wrong with John Candy!
one of my favourite movies of all time, so much heart in this, a beautiful message and a based in a true story. feels like they don't make many movies like this any more
Great reaction 👍
This movie was one of my absolute favorites as a kid growing up. So much so in fact that one year for Christmas, I asked my mom for a bobsled, a helmet, and - yes - a lucky egg.
I watched the Jamaican teams [they had a 2 man and 4 man team] in the '88 Winter Games - I was working in a geriatric rehabilitation ward of the hospital so patients were in bed early without the demands of a busy ward. We all sat down to watch in the evening here in Brisbane, and took turns answering patients needs. It was a great competition. Really got to watch a lot that year..........was almost always working when good sports were on [retired RN now]
One thing that every Calgary noticed:
There's no way you could get from Canada Olympic Park (where the registrations took place" to "that revolving restaurant place" (the Calgary Tower) in 30 minutes. But when they did meet...... it didn't revolve. At all. :)
I had heard of this movie for years and this last summer I finally watched it and I was devastated at the ending. I thought it was one of those true story sports movies where they win, I didn’t see them crashing coming💀😭 still an amazing movie like y’all said, that “it’s not about winning, it’s about going the distance”.
Omg clicked so fast
This is one of my all time feel good movies! Enjoy fellas 😎
Now that you've watched another John Candy movie I need to see you guys react to Uncle Buck, one of the best John Candy movies out there, and one of my favorites.
My brother in law ran all the bars in Kearney Nebraska back in the 1990s. He was like Dalton in roadhouse in real life and knew a lot about the bar business. He had a bouncer that worked for him Curtis Harry this guy went to the 1994 winter Olympics games in Lillehammer Norway with the Trinidad and Tobago bobsled team.
Lol that slow clap at the end always cracks me up!! 😆
Another good underdog story is Remember The Titans, has Denzel Washington in it, too.
This is DEFINITELY one of the BEST movies EVER!. All three of my kids were born in the 1980's, and "Cool Runnings" has always been a family favorite! To this day the phrase "You dead Mon?" is a common one that is used regularly by them when something goes wrong!
I REALLY, REALLY enjoy watching your reaction videos! I look forward to seeing more!
You guys should do "42" with Chadwick Boseman as Jackie Robinson soon
One of my fav sports movies. Loved it
Awesome! I watch this every 4 years before bobsleigh finals at Olympics (It's big sport in Latvia). Fun facts: real Jamaican team wasn't even close to winning when they crashed but they were close to not being too bad. Also they walked next to the Bob not carried it. Also competitors were were very friendly towards Jamaicans and the Swiss team was one of the friendliest. But I guess it doesn't make for good story 😅 Also watch "Hard boiled" already - I've been spamming for almost a year now :))))
Yea I grew up watching this and as a kid, even tho they crashed i thought they like won somehow. When i got older i realized how early they wrecked. My mom had to turn it into a teachable moment. That it wasnt about winning it was about trying your best...... thanks mom, I just wanted to watch a movie.
When Irv and Derese met at the end and hugged, that right there was the perfect cap to this film.
"Thank you, Coach"
"Thank YOU!"
Derese respected Irv despite his past. Irv brought himself out of isolation to coach their team, and Derese and company gave him a new lease on life. Irv was able to both redeem himself, come to terms with his past, and go back to the sport he once loved. That's why he thanked Derese.
Wow I used to love this movie as a kid.
He needed to cross that finish line. He was told if he wasn't enough without that gold he would never be enough with it. So he needed to cross that finish line to see of he was enough
FUN FACTS: the film is unpopular in Jamaica. Most of the events shown in the movie are either fictional or over exaggerated. There actually were two Jamaican bobsleigh teams that entered the Olympics in 1988. In 2018 Jamaica entered their first women's bobsleigh team
nah that's a myth, maybe when it first came out they didn't like it but it's now very popular there
2022 and I still loooooove it.😘😘😘😘😘😘😘😘to both.RIP Sr. Candy.Kurtis: I LOOOOOVE U!!!You dont answer back 🤧🤧🤧
My sister and I loved this movie when we were kids. So glad to see others discovering it now and enjoying it.
The true story is very different yet still incredible. Originally the team was not set to compete in the four men event. They decided to go for it and another team gave them a sled to use. When one of the team members was injured another member's brother who was attending the games as a spectator was recruited to join them. Incredibly even though by that point the Games were already in progress their coach was able to get him the credentials needed to be added as an athlete.
That said, the original team says they enjoy the film for what it is, and say it did capture the spirit of their team and their drive to do something no one believed they could do.
All of the original team eventually went on to compete again and at one point Jamacia was ranked 8th in the world. One member went on to coach Jamaica's first women's team at the Olympic Games a few years ago. This year they are competing in womens single, two men, and four man team events. There is even for the first time a Jamaican alpine skier competing.
Guys this film is just amazing. I love it. Another film along these lines is Eddie The Eagle, another true story and incredible film. Love the channel and much respect.
If I'm not mistaken Eddie and the Jamaicans were at the same Olympics. What a year for under dogs.
Hi from Lyon - France ^^ one of my favorite movie for ever (And not only because i' have some dreadlocks too >< ).....what a message, what a story .
The title of that movie in France is : Rasta Rocket :)
" Sanka t'es mort ? Ouai man "
21:51 timing on that "where is he going" is legendary
Yul Brynner was a very famous actor irl known for his bald head. Also, there's there's Jamaican restaurant in Houston Texas called Cool Runnings and it has amazing food
You would love Eddie The Eagle which is set at the same Olympics and has Taron Egerton and Hugh Jackman in it 🙂
The God who art in Calgary prayer was ad libbed by John, there were a few versions of it but that one fit best.
My top 10 favorite childhood movies where I know it word for word!
One of my favorite jokes that a lot of people miss: the character Yul Brenner is a reference to the actor Yul Brynner.
The character that plays Sanka also has a role in "Operation Dumbo Drop" - which is another fantastic comedy.
Came here to watch this after my annual rewatch of Cool Runnings. This is my New Years Eve movie since 1993. I'm so happy you watched it - I think it's so underrated and has such a good message. Thank you for reviewing and happy New Year, fellow Canadians.
When people ask me my favorite John Candy movie, it's this one ;)
You guys just put me in my HAPPY place. Been waiting FOREVER for someone to do this movie. Just a FYI - a few of those clips from the crash were actually from the REAL crash that happened on the track. Absolutely one of my favorites though. Another root for the underdog movie I think you'd like is Dolphin Tale. Nothing to do with sports - but it has just as much HEART as this one.
You guys had 2000 subs when I joined, FN awesome guys! Look at you now! This has always been my favorite childhood movie. Definitely a fun movie. Hope you’re both having a great weekend🤙🍻
Y’all need to watch “Rudy” with Sean Astin …. The ULTIMATE underdog story
Back during these Olympics, there actually was a huge buzz around this Jamaican team. They were the talk of the town. (All of Canada)
Cool Runnings is Just A Fun Movie....I remember seeing this movie in Theaters and loving it since...
One of my childhood faves!! More people need to see this amazing movie! Great reaction!
This is one of the first movies I remember seeing in theaters. Eventually got the VHS and watched it to the point of memorization.
This is one of my favorite all time movies. Still makes me die laughing every time I watch it. I watched it as a kid at the theater and I'd watch it every time it came on on HBO.
"They came in last place then retired to promote alcoholic beverages. A true inspiration for the children!" -Hermes Conrad.
Guys FYI that crash was the actual footage from the 88 games, although when they crashed they was on a qualifying run, they was no where near the medals they were running 24th out of 26 countries i think, incredible how on one was hurt, the fans really took to them in those games.
They went back and forth between the movie and the actual crash.
The real-life Jamaican bobsledders were a HUGE hit here in Calgary, we totally embraced them. Same with Eddie "The Eagle" Edwards, the British ski-jumper. I do recommend you review the film "Eddie The Eagle" if you haven't already
Its been a loooong time since I've seen this hilarious movie!
I remember watching this movie every week with my sisters as a teenager. We loved it so much 😅 In the French version the title is Rasta Rocket ☺️
This one in Brewster's Millions (1985) are my favourite John Candy movies! 🥰👌🏼✌🏼
This movie certainly strains the concept of truth in "based on a true story", but it's probably one of the best distillations of the sports movie genre ever made, and just a delight to watch. I can't stay mad at you Cool Runnings.
You would have to be dead inside not to love this complete gem💎
This is a "true" story. I remember watching the Jamaican bobsled team completing in the Olympics.
I remember this Olympics... we were all laughing at them... and then I saw the class they showed at the end, and was inspired.
Another great reaction guys!! So glad y’all did this movie, reactors always miss this gem!!! Keep them coming !!
"Who came up with this sport?"
Even crazier, who came up with Skeleton? That's about the most dangerous land sport I can imagine.
The luge is worse.
When I was a kid my school was asked to go to Calgary Olympic Park and we ended up walking up the hill a bunch of times while they filmed the quick scene of them singing up the hill with the Bobsled. Also sad news during the beginning of Covid some jerks stole the bobsled from the bar where it has been hanging since the movie was made.
lol I like how Curtis gave himself the nickname Chubby Rain from Bowfinger
