It now makes sense that the motel thief was the pizza delivery guy. They should have left that part in. They also should have left the part in where Del was in the bathroom because that explained why the bathroom was a mess when Neal stepped out of the shower. Some of these deleted scenes answer questions I’ve had.
I can't believe the deleted scenes are more than half the length of the original runtime. I'd live to see a 3 hour cut with all this footage spliced in.
These are all from first half of film there must be more out there somewhere to be discovered for the rest of the film, need a special anniversary dvd with them all.
@@vintagemovielover4511The 4K Ultra HD Blu-Ray has all discovered deleted scenes. It is $15 at Target right now. That’s the source of the footage in this video.
I would too, it doesn't matter if it'd make the movie too long because it would still be very interesting to see the whole thing deleted scenes and all all tied together. I like Del, John Candy made him into a great character, but the extended airplane scenes sort of lead to me understanding a bit more Neil finally losing it with him later in the motel and commenting on his long pointless ramblings. 9:06 - even that old man is looking at Del like "when are you gonna shut the f*** up already!?" Lol
Larry Hankin, who plays the taxi driver Doobie, was also in Seinfeld. He portrayed Tom Pepper, the actor cast as Kramer on the pilot-within-a-TV-show Jerry.
Out of everything, they should have included the part when Neal apologizes to Del because he felt that he really hurt him with that speech, and in return Del apologizes because he messed up the night for Neal. This would have been perfect for the story and shows why the next morning they are able to have breakfast together.
It would've been better if their apologies were left in there. And in fact, it looked like, after Del's response to Neil's rant "I'm the real article", Neil's facial expression indicated that he was now feeling a little remorse about the way he spoke to him (the music that started then also gave off that feeling). Neil didn't quite expect Dels response to his raving to be tugging at the heartstrings a little bit. He probably just expected Del to snap back at him like he was doing, or to just passive-aggressively not say much back. But the way Del actually responded made Neil feel sort of sorry for how he spoke to him. Also, because of the apology scene, their reaction was less angry about waking up cuddled together than it would've been if they fought the night before without apologizing. It was still no doubt uncomfortable for them either way, but they had less anger about it than they could've because they right away knew that they were half asleep and thought they were cuddling their wives, and that neither of them were gay. If either of them assumed they were, they definitely would've had an uglier more unsettled reaction, I mean, this was the 80s. Either way though, it was funny that they both chose to then immediately not verbally acknowledge what they accidentally did and instead talk about the latest Chicago Bears 🐻 game, "Bears all the way"
I agree completely! To be quite honest, all of this footage was fantastic and deserved to have been included. The deleted scenes of "Doobie" threatening Neil, and Del trying to reign him in and scold him like a mom was a riot and show how truly unstable the cab driver was. "Are you looking at my hair?" I've always wished that Steve Martin and John Candy would have done more films together. John Candy left us far too soon.
Obvious they edited a ton it explains some things you really didn't give much thought. I think Hughes knew you would figure it out. For instance the pizza kid robbing I figured he knew the front office guy. Probably did. But you didn't know they had an earlier contact. But all of a sudden this kid enters and steals their cash. it just makes more sense statistically when somebody breaks in they been there before. Or how'd the beer end up on the bed. What beer? But you didn't care.
I actually thought it was good the apology was left out. That happened too early in their relationship. The expression on Neil's face and his returning to bed were enough.
@@jerrycallows3906Totally agree. In the Final Cut I thought it was perfect because you could tell by the look on Neal’s face after Del says what you see is what you get that Neal regretted what he said and realized he hurt Del. It was more than enough to show he still cared about Del despite being annoyed with him.
On the plane, the old man sitting at the window next to Candy and Martin, is the character on Seinfeld when Jerry volunteers to hang out with a senior citizen.

You mean Del had a house to live in but just chose not to live there anymore because of his wife's death? So all that time, he could've gone back there to live in that house if he wanted to instead of wandering from place to place without a home? Also, if Neil was homeless and couldn't afford a roof over his head, how could he afford airline travel? Wouldn't it be wiser to spend whatever money you have to get off the street and into an accommodation first, and then flying on airlines second?

It is too long for a comedy though, and another reason why they cut so much out is because the shit John. Candys character was doing was something that would make the audience hate him, remember they're trying to set the ending up to feel sympathy for him, not say well he deserves to be alone. It wasn't the studio either it was the test audience, they didn't like candy's character because of all the bad nasty, and grotesque shit he was doing.
These scenes are great! Made the movie make a little more sense. Like, i always wondered how Neil didn't notice the messy bathroom BEFORE he got in the shower.. now this explains it!
Yeah. And back in the 80s when you could get beer delivered with your pizza. Delivering alcohol after then started becoming alot less common because of how difficult it is to show proof of age over the phone
John Candy being a dignified classy Gentleman that he was I bet secretly hated playing this Fat Nasty Slob of a man because he probably felt like he was playing into insulting stereotypes for overweight people.
All of it? Even the part where he took off his shoes and socks and rubbed his bare feet on the plane? I was a bit disappointed that he didn't actually show us his left bare foot, just part of it
Honestly, this version makes you realize why the Neil seemed to hate him so much in the first place. The movie just makes him look like, well, to quote Del, "a cold hearted cynic".
@@jackthomas6952 Ultimately he is a good person. But you can be a really good person and also have kind of a rotten attitude about stuff. Again, cynical. I think Del did help him grow as a person, and vice versa.
In case a dedicated fan hasn’t done it already, I’d love to watch an “extended” cut of this with the missing footage spliced in - mainly the airplane meal conversation, Del messing up the bathroom, and the pizza boy scene.
So many more things make sense in the movie now. The extra scenes on the plane now make it more obvious as to why Neal cut him off in the movie seemingly so quickly - he had listened to a heck of a lot more than what was shown in the final cut.
These deleted scenes are great but the movie is a comedic masterpiece just the way it is.. I feel like I’m in an alternate universe watching this for the first time 😳
Yeah, except Del was being a real prick with him, much more so than he was to anyone the rest of the movie. The theatrical cut made Del in general come across as a really nice understanding guy, but this pizza guy scene changed the view of Del's character a little
Wow! They should have left so much of this in. Especially the cab part and the hotel room scenes, with the added rabt and the apologies. I wish Steve Martin and John Candy made more movies together.. And the robbery scene makes sense now that we understand the pizza boy did it
Yeah. But the plane scene became a bit too long with all of it left in there, it started making Del seem more like a blabbermouth and made Neil's rant about it later in the motel room start seeming more understandable. I'm kinda surprised that even in the deleted bits on the plane, we don't see Neil reading the vomit bag (because of Neil telling Del in his rant later "Who was that who kept talking my ear off on the plane, I'm curious, who was that!? Didn't you notice how eventually I was reading the vomit bag!? Didn't that give you some sort of clue that maybe this guy's not enjoying this!?")
I’m so glad this was released. As long as people watch and enjoy filmmaking as an art, and who can laugh at life, then John Candy will live forever. And Steve Martin. And John Hughes. ❤
RIP John!!! He was such a great guy and a talented actor!! 2of the best actors Ever!! Love them both!! Thank you for the great video!! Love this movie so much!! 💙💙❤️❤️🌹🌹🌺🌺🦋🦋🥰🥰😊😊💖💖💜💜🙏🙏🙏😢😢
This is weird because I watched it a million times. Priceless. This puts a prospective on things. You could be an actor like the cab driver thinking you got 15 min. and you end up with one sentence or maybe nothing. but they had plenty of material to work with.
Crazy thing is there's a whole bunch of other stuff that's not included here. They filmed a ton of stuff between the beginning of the movie and when they get to the airport in the beginning. Also, the entire sequence with Michael McKean and them going to jail, fighting over Del not getting insurance for the rental car, Neil punching him, etc. I think there was some other stuff involving the whole subplot with Neil's wife thinking he was cheating on her. Then of course the final sequence where Del tells his story to Neil at a diner.
This movie would've been too long and dragged at times if they left all of these deleted scenes in, such as Del's constant talking on the plane, it almost makes Neil's yelling at him about it in the motel room more understandable. Some of these deleted scenes made Del look like more of a jerkass such as how he talked to the pizza guy, where in the theatrical cut Del overall seems like a really nice guy with a good heart. He's a bigger prick and more annoying in these deleted scenes than in almost all of the theatrical scenes.
Remember him in SCTV. A great cast. He was is best in the Schmenge Brothers(Eugene Levy and him) the duo of Polka band "The Wanderers". I was a teenager and watched that show. He was great also in Harry's Sex Shop. "Hi I'm Harry, the guy with a snake on his face". He was a great and humble person. We sure miss him.
The actor playing the pizza delivery guy was a finalist for the part of William S. Preston, Esquire in the Bill and Ted movies. He also had a small but memorable part in Ruthless People.
I think they were right to edit some of this stuff out and the film has a good run time. Sometimes less is more when explaining people's feelings and John and Steve did a great job conveying their feelings with simple looks. I would have left in the annoyances of air travel and some of the scenes with the food and old man on the plane. That was funny and very relatable to people who travel.
He hadn't made it into the movies yet in 1987, the time of this movie, not until Uncle Buck in 1989, that was his first movie, Home Alone in 1990 was his second.
The deleted/unedited scenes make me more sympathetic for Neal. He expresses more patience and concern for Del. And we see a whole lot more Del blabbering on and generally being annoying.
Del is also a huge jerk to the pizza delivery guy. Why would a well traveled, worldly, man of the people like Del not leave a good tip, then be a jerk about it? Seems out of character. Glad they cut that scene too
@@josephsarto689 This is why I hate unedited versions of films we get now. So many classic films are only available to be streamed that way and it's a real shame. Imagine these awful scenes being put into the film.
Yeah, but they also make Neil look less like an intolerant prick and more like he's having understandable reactions most anybody would have. Later in the movie when Neil gets home to his wife and kids, you could see that he's really a good guy who loves his family and isn't a prick, and now with the extended scenes making his reactions to Del even more understandable, you can believe that even more. But you're right, the extended scenes made Del more hard to take and harder to sympathize with, plus they would've made the movie drag on too much, so I see why they cut them out. Also, it would've made Del's reveal late in the movie less of a gut punch because we wouldn't have felt for him as much. But the cuts did make Neil look like a more intolerant guy. Maybe they should've left a few more things in the movie, just not as many as we saw in this video
There's another scene which was cut which makes Del look even worse. The scene at the end where Neal goes back to the train station, that's actually him arriving at him home train station and Del had followed him there. They used clever editing and flipping/reversing footage to make it look like he went back to the station where he left Del (notice in the shot where Neal gets off the train, his hair is parted the other way and the number on the train is back to front). Del then gives a big speech about how it's not fair that he doesn't have a life as good as Neal's. Test audiences thought Del came across really badly so John Hughes made some drastic last minute changes.
Yeah, it did. And it made it make more sense on why he snuck back into their room later to rob them. And the cab scene made that cab driver look like a much darker and crazier character than he appeared in the theatrical cut. The only thing he said in the theatrical cut was "You said your friend ain't from around here so I thought I'd show him around", the whole rest of it was cut
I still think it was a brilliant choice to clip some scenes away. We get a little more understanding of the story but it is almost too much! I prefer the way it was cut. We need movies on this level again, and the chemistry between Steve and John is so good. And they should have been awarded an Oscar for this. Both are so good especially John no both
This is a real gem. I do understand why they were taking out. It doesn't add to the movie but actually takes away from the humor and charm. Its nice to get a full picture but they did good removing these scenes in the final cut.
if they made a 4 hour version of this movie, I would watch every single second of it.
Me too mate.
one day, it ull happen, maybe not in our lifetime but.........one day

All of it? Even the part where he took off his shoes and socks and rubbed his bare feet on the plane? I was a bit disappointed that he didn't actually show us his left bare foot, just part of it
Actually I have seen some parts of the original script and a lot of it was written. Especially all the references to Hitchcock and Psycho.
Honestly, this version makes you realize why the Neil seemed to hate him so much in the first place. The movie just makes him look like, well, to quote Del, "a cold hearted cynic".
Neil puts up with ALOT. He’s actually a pretty good guy.
@@jackthomas6952 Ultimately he is a good person. But you can be a really good person and also have kind of a rotten attitude about stuff. Again, cynical. I think Del did help him grow as a person, and vice versa.
After watching the motel room scenes, Neil’s outburst is more justified.
yeah, i still feel Dels hurt, but i see more of Neil's side as well
I didn’t think I could squeeze another laugh out of this movie!
Good lord, it was worth the over 30 year wait. 😂
actually we're coming up on FORTY years (god we're all getting old)
I love the version of the movie that we've been watching all these years. Seeing these outtakes sure does add a lot. Thanks for posting this video.
The new 4K Blu-ray release has over 75 minutes of deleted scenes
The part where del says im a human being after neal's rant and neil looks down in guilt is heartbreaking, even moreso since candys death
I think it actually works because they don’t need you to like Neal Page until the end of the movie.
These deleted scenes are great but the movie is a comedic masterpiece just the way it is.. I feel like I’m in an alternate universe watching this for the first time 😳
I agree .Its cool to finally see it all but it doesnt add any charm or humor but imo takes away. They did a great job editing it.
OK! In all my years of watching this movie, I really believe the pizza boy scene should have been left!
Yeah, except Del was being a real prick with him, much more so than he was to anyone the rest of the movie. The theatrical cut made Del in general come across as a really nice understanding guy, but this pizza guy scene changed the view of Del's character a little
I agree, it made me confused when I saw him robbing them since it didn't make sense how he would know to rob their room
Wow! They should have left so much of this in. Especially the cab part and the hotel room scenes, with the added rabt and the apologies. I wish Steve Martin and John Candy made more movies together..
And the robbery scene makes sense now that we understand the pizza boy did it
So the thing about Del was that he never stopped talking. But then they cut out all the parts where he talks.
This movie will always be in the top 5 of my favorite movies of all times
Fantastic!! Absolutely hilarious!! I really can't believe that they didn't use these scenes!!
John Hughes should have left all this in the original film. CLASSIC MARTIN AND CANDY!! 😎👍🏻
On the airplane: pure genius! Amazing to finally enjoy the whole scene. Del goes on and on and on 😂. How we miss U, John Candy, RIP.
a lot of scenes here should have been kept, the extended pre take off scene comes to mind.
Candy was such a natural actor. he became every character he played. nothing was ever forced.
I’m so glad this was released. As long as people watch and enjoy filmmaking as an art, and who can laugh at life, then John Candy will live forever. And Steve Martin. And John Hughes. ❤
I Wish they would have left at least Some of this Goodness in this classic film! ... 80's Movies ARE Something Else... !
Candy talking about Shower curtains getting a bad name because of Psycho - comedy GOLD. This is AMAZING footage.
RIP John!!! He was such a great guy and a talented actor!! 2of the best actors Ever!! Love them both!! Thank you for the great video!! Love this movie so much!! 💙💙❤️❤️🌹🌹🌺🌺🦋🦋🥰🥰😊😊💖💖💜💜🙏🙏🙏😢😢
Miss John Candy so much.
This is just a reminder of how much power an editor has over shaping a movie. They really should share the director's credit.
Where can I find it ?
This is absolute gold
The actor playing the pizza delivery guy was a finalist for the part of William S. Preston, Esquire in the Bill and Ted movies. He also had a small but memorable part in Ruthless People.
I think they were right to edit some of this stuff out and the film has a good run time. Sometimes less is more when explaining people's feelings and John and Steve did a great job conveying their feelings with simple looks. I would have left in the annoyances of air travel and some of the scenes with the food and old man on the plane. That was funny and very relatable to people who travel.
The Doobie taxi scene and the altercation between Del and the pizza guy had me laughing so hard.
The pizza part had me rolling i was literally dying of laughter wow what a funny movie.😂😂😂😂😂
The plane dinner made me SCREAM WITH LAUGHTER 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
John Candy left us way too soon
Mcauley culken should of been that kid taking about the Pepsi 🔥🔥🔥🔥
He hadn't made it into the movies yet in 1987, the time of this movie, not until Uncle Buck in 1989, that was his first movie, Home Alone in 1990 was his second.
Thats too funny 😂
Funny you say that that old man was in home alone
Nah Fuller is the king of Pepsi! lol
@@vincenzostagliano5011 yep I noticed that, he’s in the airport scene with the mother trying to get home 👍🏻
Love seeing this, it's like everything we missed. Just adds to the story
Thanks for posting this. Explains so much context. The original movie works great. But there is some scenes should have been included. :D Rip John
The pizza delivery guy’s best friend from Summer School was also a pizza delivery guy in Men at Work 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I hope they find more deleted scenes. I've love to see scene where Neal and Del talk in the diner after Neal finds out the truth about Del's wife.
I want a fucking car… right fucking now.
The deleted/unedited scenes make me more sympathetic for Neal. He expresses more patience and concern for Del. And we see a whole lot more Del blabbering on and generally being annoying.
Yeah del seems like a jerk when Neil tells him he’s running out of hot water. Glad they cut that part
The editor done a great job , perfect editing
Academy Award winner *Paul Hirsch*
I love this movie more than life itself and watch it EVERY Thanksgiving, that said, I mostly agree with the edits they made to shorten the movie
The best people in the world are the ones like John Candy's character. Had a friend a lot like this character, RIP Charlie, and RIP John Candy.
haha i love hearing the crew laugh when John slides off the bed 😂
As much as I love candy, the airplane scene 🎬 good job editing..sometimes more is less 😂
actually I love the part about the different things he orders depending on which airline he flies, but the rest of it, i agree with you
All of them should have been included in the movie 😂
I’m still amazed Del got a beer on the flight
They've always served alcoholic beverages on flights. They still do, you just have to pay extra for them.
Neil’s pointless anecdote rant scene makes more sense now after this!
Crazy thing is there may be more footage out there as the original is said to be something like 3.5 hours long!
Why oh why has it not been released 😢
We really need the extended movie as it feels like holes in the story are present in the small length #HughesCut
One of my fav movies !! The way he chews gum is so obnoxious it’s addicting 😂😂😂
Wonder if they have the uncut full version somewhere. If love it have it.
I think they made the right cut's !
I wish they had kept the part where del says he likes people, @49:14
@asternweg1 I agree!
never seen these scenes before thanks for posting
John Candy describing how Doobie could kill Neal 😂😂😂
2:59 Im freaking dying 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
How could you not want to talk and hang out with Del. He isnt polished but he is fun and a good guy
This would be a perfect stage play.
I can see why these scenes were cut. They make Del look way too unbearable.
Test audiences thought Del came across really badly so John Hughes made some drastic last minute changes.
thanks for this. pizza guy scene , should of been in the movie. made it even funnier.
Wow I never realized before what a great job they do with the background music in the scene where they get into the heated argument.
Great scenes in this movie!
They don’t make funny movies like this anymore!
I still think it was a brilliant choice to clip some scenes away. We get a little more understanding of the story but it is almost too much! I prefer the way it was cut. We need movies on this level again, and the chemistry between Steve and John is so good. And they should have been awarded an Oscar for this. Both are so good especially John no both
God bless you, John Candy. Keep making God laugh
This is a real gem. I do understand why they were taking out. It doesn't add to the movie but actually takes away from the humor and charm. Its nice to get a full picture but they did good removing these scenes in the final cut.
The Doobie scene had me rolling 😂
