Everybody's wrong : The german sailor took the clock from the captain's hands (48°10N,16°12W... was the presumed sinking location of the KMS Bismarck) and he was about 16-20 years old in 1941...Later he got a son around 1945-1950. So the old man who found the boat is about 60-65 yo is the son of this german sailor... Sometimes peoples need to train their brain before to speak so much shit !!!

A little history for Billy. This song is about the KMS (Kriegsmarine Ship) Bismarck. Launched in Feb. 1939 it was, at the time, the largest battleship ever constructed. It was so large that it broke the London Navel Treaty... well broke it then smashed it to pieces. The British were so scared of this ship and it's sister the Tirpitz that they hunted them fairly exclusively in the early days of World War 2. The Bismarck was finally caught after it humiliated the British at the battle of the Denmark Strait where it sunk the HMS Hood, the flag ship and pride of the Royal Navy.
After a desperate torpedo bomber attack the British thought they had lost the ship in the Atlantic (Portrayed somewhat, but not totally accurately at 2:50 in the music video). One of the Swordfish hit the Bismarck's rudder while it was in a hard turn and caused the ship to sail in circles. The pilots of the Swordfish didn't know they had caused any real damage until after they had returned to their carrier.
The Royal Navy then basically took every ship they had in the area and charged at the Bismarck, firing shell after shell into it and hitting it with torpedoes for multiple hours until it finally sank into the North Atlantic. Supposedly the bombardment was so bad that the chaplain on the flagship begged the commanding Admiral to allow the Germans to attempt to surrender, but was ignored.

Bismarck, along with sister ship Tirpitz, was a battleship and the flagship of the German Navy (Kriegsmarine) during World War 2. The scenes in this video are remarkably accurate in terms of portraying Bismarck's final battle against the Royal Navy. It was produced by WarGaming, the company behind the World of Warships game (among others), hence the ultra-realistic animations of the ships and weapons in the video.
The short version of the story is that while the German Navy could never hope to beat the British Navy using traditional surface warfare, Bismarck and Tirpitz were both feared because of the potential havoc they could wreak were they to break out into the open waters of the Atlantic and raid Allied convoys. Bismarck attempted to do just that, surviving its first engagement while sinking the HMS Hood, but turned back for a safe harbor in occupied France due to damage sustained in that battle. Great Britain unleashed every warship they could in an effort to sink the Bismarck before it could reach German air cover; in the end, it was a lucky hit from a Fairey Swordfish torpedo bomber (the biplanes shown in the video) which disabled Bismarck's steering and allowed the rest of the fleet to finish the battleship off. There is still some controversy as to whether the ship actually sank because of enemy fire (it took more than 400 hits during the exchange) or because of scuttling charges set by Bismarck's crew; most experts agree that it was intentionally scuttled, but that the damage inflicted to it would have caused the battleship to sink eventually anyway.
Others pointed out the compass held by the captain of the fishing trawler in the beginning of the video, which is the same compass carried by the surviving German sailor off of Bismarck. The coordinates engraved on the cover are correct: Bismarck's wreck was found in 1989 at coordinates 48°10′N 16°12′W.

Bismarck was the first of two Bismarck-class battleships built for the Kriegsmarine (Germany's WW2 Navy). Named after Chancellor Otto von Bismarck, the ship was laid down at the Blohm & Voss shipyard in Hamburg in July 1936 and launched in February 1939. Work was completed in August 1940, when she was commissioned into the German fleet. Bismarck and her sister ship Tirpitz were the largest battleships ever built by Germany, and two of the largest built by any European power.
In the course of the warship's eight-month career under its sole commanding officer, Captain Ernst Lindemann, Bismarck conducted only one offensive operation, lasting 8 days in May 1941, codenamed Rheinübung. The ship, along with the heavy cruiser Prinz Eugen, was to break into the Atlantic Ocean and raid Allied shipping from North America to Great Britain. The two ships were detected several times off Scandinavia, and British naval units were deployed to block their route. At the Battle of the Denmark Strait, the battlecruiser HMS Hood initially engaged Prinz Eugen, probably by mistake, while HMS Prince of Wales engaged Bismarck. In the ensuing battle Hood was destroyed by the combined fire of Bismarck and Prinz Eugen, which then damaged Prince of Wales and forced her retreat. Bismarck suffered sufficient damage from three hits to force an end to the raiding mission.
The destruction of Hood spurred a relentless pursuit by the Royal Navy involving dozens of warships. Two days later, heading for occupied France to effect repairs, Bismarck was attacked by 16 obsolescent Fairey Swordfish biplane torpedo bombers from the aircraft carrier HMS Ark Royal; one scored a hit that rendered the battleship's steering gear inoperable. In her final battle the following morning, the already-crippled Bismarck was severely damaged during a sustained engagement with two British battleships and two heavy cruisers, was scuttled by her crew, and sank with heavy loss of life. Most experts agree that the battle damage would have caused her to sink eventually. The wreck was located in June 1989 by Robert Ballard, and has since been further surveyed by several other expeditions.
*The reason many people love sabaton is due to them doing these unique songs in tribute to many significant figures and battles in military history. Each of their songs sort of pays homage to those who fought regardless of sides and died for their countries, ideals, and families as well as inspires people to learn and remember about those that are "Forgotten" by the general populace which in my opinion is beautiful.*

Song is about the Bismarck, one of two Bismarck class battelships for the German navy. ( 2nd ship was the Tirpitz) The Bismarck was tracked and attacked by the British navy. Due to most naval forces being too far away tto respond, only a couple did. The Bismarck was hit by torpedos launch from old obsolete bipanes which disabled the ships steering. It could only go in a big circle, and ended up fighting 4 other British ships until the ship was scuttled by its own crew and sunk.

The video looks so good, because it was a co-production by Wargaming, the developers of World Of Warships. They asked the band if they had a song to use as promotional material for their game, and instead of using an old one (like they did with 'Primo Victoria' and World Of Tanks), they decided to write a new one. Fans asked for a song about the Bismarck for some time, so they killed two birds with one stone.

3 Battleships (Rodney, Nelson, Prince of Wales), 1 Battlecruiser (Hood), 1 Aircraft Carrier (Ark Royal whose antiquated biplane squadrons crippled the rudder) and 3 Cruisers (Dorsetshire, Norfolk, Suffolk) are the major ships of the Royal Navy that "met" the Bismarck in one way or another. In the end Rodney, Nelson, Dorsetshire and Norfolk are the ships that surrounded and eventually sunk the Bismarck.
These 4 ships fired a combined 3,500 shells at the Bismarck over the course of an hour that resulted in more that 400 confirmed hits on the crippled ship which left her with a heavy list and her fire control and bridge destroyed, killing all her senior officers. Due to this damage, just after 10 am, her guns fell silent. It is widely believed that the crew then scuttled the ship to prevent the ship from falling into British hands. However, this is simply not the case. Since the guns fell silent, Dorsetshire was able to close to "suicide" range (2.5 km) and finish off the Bismarck with 3 torpedoes. 2 torpedoes went into the starboard (right) side of the ship. The last torpedo was fired into the port side (left) of the ship. Because of the heavy list to port, this torpedo struck above the anti-torpedo belt and in an area of the ship without watertight compartments. At 10:30 am the Bismarck capsized and by 10:35 am, sunk beneath the waves.
Ironically though, she would come to rest upright in the abyss after sliding down an undersea mountain for years.

The story of the Bismark and the hunt for her is stuff of legend. Her encounter with and distruction of the Hood (all but 3 were killed iirc) set off a chain of events that would lead to a final battle where a British chaplain would beg the British commander to stop firing on the obviously disabled Bismark. Bismarck was the largest warship to have ever been built by a European nation. 4x2 380mm (15in) main battery guns and a shit ton of secondary batteries. Her anti air capabilities were spectacular but did not shoot down any of those Swordfish torpedo bombers because the planes were too slow and the AA gun computers were made to aim at faster targets and those bullets and shells that did hit the planes only went straight through the planes. One plane took over a hundred hits and was still flying due to the light frame and that it was basically made out of stretched fabric.
Back to the ship. He was 251 meters long and 36 meters wide. He weighed 50 300 tons while fully loaded and had a crew of 2 000 men. Note that I refer to Bismarck as "he" because it was the only ship in the world to ever be referred to as "he". That's also why they sing "King of the ocean. He was made to rule the waves across the seven seas." At the time of his commissioning he was the largest, heaviest, most well armed and armored battleship the world had ever seen.

The Bismarck is the largest ship ever built, built by the Germans in WWII, It, along with its sister ship (which was not a dreadnought as the Bismarck was if i remember correctly) ganged up on the HMS Hood a British ship, as well as it's sister ship, really just a 2 ship patrol situation, and after the report of its demise, the Allies promptly sent over 20 torpedo aircraft, the Nimrod Biplane, as well as a dozen warships after this beast, it displaced 50k tons of water, had the largest array of gunfire, and was promptly sunk after its first battle. The video shows the biplane pilot let loose a torpedo that imitates the real life actions, where a torpedo rendered the steering gear inoperable, you'll also see in the video, a shot that strikes the bridge, which also happened, killing all of the command crew. So without a command crew and no steering gear, the ship was doomed.

Tirpits was also a battleship (dreadnought) as they were the same class battleship and it weighed 2000 tons more then Bismarck because of modifications. The battlecruiser HMS Hood did not have any sisterships, but it was escorted by the HMS Prince of Wales, a King Georg V-class battleship when they engaged the Bismarck and its escort the Prinz Eugen. The planes used to drop the torpedoes were Swordfish torpedobombers.
