Sabaton are always non-political, they simply tell stories of war and those who tok part, highlighting heroism, skills and humanity from wherever it's shown. Everyone - Germans, Russians, Americans, Poles - if Sabaton has a song about a people, person or event in a war that took place, it's because there is something that deserves to be remembered. Sabaton also encourages reactions to their content, they're all just some fun guys making up for gaps in the average war history curriculum.
Yeah, makes it sad that they get banned in some countries for their songs. Like, I'm not a supporter of what the Zi's did in the way, but Panzer Elite? Amazing song! But tell that to Russia.
@@pistonhead3815 I think they kinda do when the lose out on a gig, especially when they were going to play at the site of a battle for it's 100's anniversary :/
Nice, open-minded reaction. 2024 is the band's 25th anniversary. They stay so true to history they hire historians when they can't get the details they need. They also have a Sabaton History Channel with more detail than can be put into their songs. They are about telling and keeping history alive with just the actual facts with no judgement. They don't express their personal feelings
History should never be cancelled. It happened and people need to take it in context and not view it through a modern lens to the point that they want it erased or altered to suit their modern sensibilities.
War knows no nation. Sabaton here isn't promoting politics in any regard. They're honoring the men that gave their lives for the nations that sent them to war, no matter their side or stake in it. That's simply what Sabaton does. They honor both the victorious and those that failed. Those that lived and those that died. War knows no nation, but it knows man.

Welcome to the wonderful world of our Swedish History Metal masters, Sabaton. Sabaton is a Swedish metal band that write all songs about historical war events or historical persons in war history. They do NOT take side, they do really research all events, which You can discover on their History channel here on RUclips, they just tell the story as it happened. They are hugh history buffs. Fun fact is that the drummer in Sabaton, Hannes Van Dahl, is married to Floor Jansen from Nightwish.
While I was aware of their Swedish background. I thought they had members from other European nations, as well, or am I misrembering?

@@michaelconnor1542 No, they are all from Sweden: Joakim Brodén, Pär Sundström, Chris Rörland, Hannes Van Dahl (married to Floor Jansen from Nightwish) and Tommy Johansson.
@@michaelconnor1542 Joachim (lead singer) has said he's half Swedish and half Czech. Not sure about the other members. They're Swedish themselves but may have family in other countries
Genuinely been waiting on this since the first Nightwish reaction XD. So Sabaton are a Swedish metal band that primarily perform songs based on historical events. En Livstid I Krieg (Live - The Great Tour - Gothenburg) with English subtitles, Christmas Truce, 40-1 Live at Woodstock 2012, and 1916 would be some of the song's I'd recommend you try out if you enjoyed this. Also, just a little bit of extra trivia, the Drummer for Sabaton is actually married to Floor Jansen who is the lead singer of Nightwish
@@BlackPegasusRaps the compuse you see throughout the video was an auctual compess from the ship with thouse coordnites on it being the last coordnites taken by the ship ethched in by the captain
@@BlackPegasusRaps8:15 here is a history lesson, through the video we are shown the bits of battle,in beginning you can hear radio anocuing how HMS Hood was sunk by Bismarck. Later in the song we see British torpedo bombers damaging Bismarck's steering, making the ship stuck turning in circles. And now after hours of bombardment Germans think that British will attempt to capture the ship,so they decided to scuttle it. Almost whole British navy was on a hunt for Bismarck. They couldn't sink it,it took Germans to just scuttle it.
Sabaton is what I consider, an “anthemic power metal” band. They simply use music to educate their listeners about military history whether it be about an individual, a group of individuals or an entire conflict. As far as why did they write this song about the “bad guy?” Think of it this way, did your history teacher only teach you about the good guys? Or were you taught all of history, good and bad?? There’s no politics in their music, simply history.
Sabaton honors and respects the warriors who have fought and died throughout history regardless of country or creed. check out "Purple heart" it always brings a tear to my eye.
Bro, you NEED to do a reaction to Christmas truce next, especially with this being a holiday period. If you think Bismarck is good, Christmas truce is their Magnum Opus in my opinion.
Welcome to your introduction of history of that time period. The band Sabaton bases all of their songs on battles / wars / soldiers / events in warfare. I am very glad to see someone start learning more of history. I'm still learning more of history myself. Please continue listening to other Sabaton songs, all of them have history to teach. Another channel to look up is Extra History. They did a bit on the sinking of the Bismark, as well as many other historical events. Keep learning, keep searching out. We all need to remember to do so. Well done reaction video.
Great reaction! Here's the condensed version on the fate of the German battleship "Bismarck". Bismarck was the first of two Bismarck-class battleships built for Nazi Germany's Kriegsmarine. Named after Chancellor Otto von Bismarck, the ship was laid down at the Blohm & Voss shipyard in Hamburg in July 1936 and launched in February 1939. Work was completed in August 1940, when she was commissioned into the German fleet. Bismarck and her sister ship Tirpitz were the largest battleships ever built by Germany, and two of the largest built by any European power. In the course of the warship's eight-month career, Bismarck conducted only one offensive operation that lasted 8 days in May 1941, codenamed Rheinübung/Rhine exercise. The ship, along with the heavy cruiser Prinz Eugen [say oygen], was to break into the Atlantic Ocean and raid Allied shipping from North America to Great Britain. The two ships were detected several times off Scandinavia, and British naval units were deployed to block their route. At the Battle of the Denmark Strait, the battlecruiser HMS Hood initially engaged Prinz Eugen, probably by mistake, while HMS Prince of Wales engaged Bismarck. In the ensuing battle, HMS Hood was destroyed by the combined fire of Bismarck and Prinz Eugen, which then damaged Prince of Wales and forced her retreat. Bismarck suffered sufficient damage from three hits by Prince of Wales to force an end to the raiding mission. The destruction of Hood spurred a relentless pursuit by the Royal Navy involving dozens of warships. Two days later, heading for occupied France for repairs, Bismarck was attacked by fifteen Fairey Swordfish torpedo bombers from the aircraft carrier HMS Ark Royal; one scored a hit that rendered the battleship's steering gear inoperable. In her final battle the following morning, the already-crippled Bismarck was engaged by two British battleships and two heavy cruisers, and sustained incapacitating damage and heavy loss of life. The ship was scuttled to prevent her being boarded by the British, and to allow the ship to be abandoned so as to limit further casualties. Most experts agree that the battle damage would have caused her to sink eventually. The wreck was located in June 1989 by Robert Ballard, and has since been further surveyed by several other expeditions.
Excellent explanation, though I would like to note that the British had no intention of boarding or capturing Bismarck. They fully intended to sink him by any means necessary.
Love Sabaton because they do military song about things and people for all nations. They also have a Sabaton History Channel where they go deep on the stories behind their music.
Oh yes! Sabaton! There are so many songs you would be mind blown by them, also make sure to react to theirs “Sabaton history” channel were they tell the historical events related to the song. Christmas Truce, No bullets fly, 1916… so many incredible songs about war, heroism and humanity.
Welcome to historical Rock and Roll. Sabaton's music is based on battles, ships, from the wars we have all ready fought. You really should watch Christmas Truce, that video will make you cry. The drummer is married to Flor from Nightwish. Flor also sings the ending of Christmas Truce.
Sabaton is military history themed metal (some say they're power metal) Small gems in this video: -The radio at the beginning is about the beginning of the hunt for Bismarck. The Bismarck sunk the Hood (England's flagship) in one lucky shot, with almost no survivors. -The ship name in the stencil (Primo Victoria) was the first hit album (the one earlier was very different) -The old man at the beginning was supposed to be the kid that was saved at the end of the video The video tried to follow what actually happened. Sabaton has songs about military history. They typically write about the actual people who fought, not about the politicians who sent them. In fact the songs No Bullets Fly and Hearts of Gold are about Germans in WWII who did what they thought was right (and could have gotten shot for it). The Last Battle is about the "strangest battle" of WWII, where Americans & Germans fought against the SS. War is fought by people not governments. Tips when watching Sabaton: #1- Always turn on subtitles watching the first time! Immense amount of history/info in the lyrics. Expect a banger of a song. Watch again after reading the history of the song to catch more references you missed. (They have a channel called Sabaton History where they to a 15-20 minute episode about some of the history behind it, and some of why/how the song was made) For this one, there are literally hours of videos here on RUclips about the hunt for the Bismarck and why it was so important to WWII. If it wasn't sunk on its first mission, Germany might have been able to prevent the US from doing as much as it did in Europe. Defeating one took 2 out of the war.
I know this is an older video but heres more info on the bismark- The Bismark was a german battleship in world war two it was the 2nd biggest battlship built in Europe only behind its sister ship. Its misson was to go out too the atlantic to sink cargo ships but was stopped by the british battle cruiser hms hood and the british battship prince of wales. In the battle the bismark sunk thr hms hood and damadged the prince of wales. The hood was the pride of the royal navy so the brits sent 65 ships to hunt the bismark down. The british aircraft carrier hms ark i believe sent torpedo bombers and damaged the bismarks steering leaving it dead in the water. The next day the bismark was attacked by British battleships and 2 battle cruisers it took over 100 minutes to sink it and it took multiple torpedo hits from a destroyer to finally put it out of commision and was scuttled by the crew leaving 115 survivers.
Sabaton is a Swedish metal band that write music about historical events from all sides. It’s to remember history and its importance through the medium of music. Although this song is about a German Battleship, that was commissioned and served during WW2 under the Nazi regime, the Bismarck battle ship was a beast of engineering and fire power. The history behind this ship is simple in its explanation… if the British didn’t sink this ship after it blew HMS Hood out the water, it would have choked the supply lines from America to the UK - crippling the British forces. It is important to remember that every battle has 2 sides. Not every German was a Nazi. The sailors aboard the Bismarck were carrying out their orders and even in the face of defeat with their mighty ship crippled and taking on water, they fought to the bitter end while the British cruisers hammered them with artillery and torpedos. Sabaton wrote the song from the German perspective to highlight this turning point in WW2. They also have a song called ‘no bullets fly’ which is about a German pilot who was ordered to shoot down an American B17 bomber. When he caught up to the bomber he realised the plane was a week from anti aircraft fire. He escorted the American plane into safe airspace, disobeying his ordered, risked court martial - which would have ended in being executed and also risked being shot down by the allied forces. War is not black and white. It takes a brave person to fight for their country and Sabaton aims to make sure the sacrifices of those brave souls from all creeds do not go forgotten. 😊 I recommend reacting to ‘82nd All The Way’ The song is about Alvin York and his heroic act of bravery in the face of danger.
Sabaton tells true stories about historical events, machines and people without taking sides they just tell the stories as they happened.Best history teachers ever imo. They even have an amazing history channel for more deep diving into their songs,it's well worth checking out too.Several songs about US heroes and campaign's as well.
The whole video is about when Bizmark was sunk och destroyed in a hunt over the atlantic. The sistership to Bizmark named Tirpitz was sunk outside Norway a bit later. These 2 ships was big and really dangerous so when they got destroyed it was a big victory to the alliance ...
Sabaton is about teaching history (mainly about battles in time) and bringing honor and respect to the people that fought, and died, in those battles. They never glorify war, far from it, and they don't take sides in politics. They focus on the stories of the people, mostly men, that gave all they had for their homeland. As always, great reaction, thanks for sharing it with us.
It's about sinking the Bismarck! It is a good thing! This battleship was viscous! Scared the crap out of everyone that was in the Atlantic. They made a movie called Sink the Bismarck! Came out in 1960. Highly recommend watching it!
They actually published a full "making of" for this video. It was quite an extensive production, which they got to pull off thanks to a sponsorship from a videogame about warships.
Sabaton writes songs about military history but without any sort of political angle or message. They're solely in the business of telling stories about people and countries. No one sane that I know of would suggest that Sabaton has some sort of political angle with their songs. This holds true for all their songs, Bismarck of course included. Now you could argue that supporting the military and focusing on that as part of a national identity is something that the political Right (or Conservatives if you prefer that term) tends to do more often but Sabaton has never espoused any sort of political preference. The singer, Joakim, has said in interviews after the Carolus Rex album dealing with the Swedish "Great Power Era", for which they were criticized for supporting nationalism by making that: "We just play heavy metal, we leave politics to others" or something to that effect. For them it's more about telling the stories of men and women who fought for their country and making sure people do not forget them and their bravery and sacrifice.
I think rhey are kinda the bards of our era. They sing about battles (Cliffs of Gallipoli,The attack of the dead men), heroes of war (Lady of the dark, The unkillable soldier), Military units (Winged Hussars, Night Witches), Last Standings (The last Stand, Resist and Bite), Weaponry Improvements (Steel Commanders, Father) or events like the Christmas Truce or the amazing story in No Bullets Fly. All those stories are in my memory now thanks to them. P.S: the recommendations are personal choices.
Sabaton is a Swedish band that writes and sings about Actual historic events, battles, moments of heroism and wars, but hey don't glorify war whatsoever, and they don't pick sides. The literally just tell the stories to keep them alive. They released their 10th studio album last year. Nice thing about them is that their video's never blocked so it's RUclips safe. (except for some Wacken video's that gets blocked by Wacken) If you really want to go down the Sabaton rabbit-hole, I would recommend these: (These are all from the Sabaton Channel, and they never block videos so it's safe to use) [live at Woodstock 2012]: Ghost Division, 40:1 and Uprising [Great Tour Live Videos]: En Livstied I Krig (make sure to turn subtitles on), Red Baron, Swedish Pagans, Primo Victoria, Fields of Verdun, Devil Dogs & Angels Calling [Lyric videos]: Attack of the dead men, The Final Solution, In Flanders Fields, 82nd All the way, Sparta, Shiroyama, Cliffs Of Gallipolli and The lost betallion [Music Video's]: Christmas Truce, 1916, Steel Commanders, Defence of Moscow, Livgardet (make sure to turn subtitles on), Fields of Verdun, Rourke's Drift, Screaming Eagles, Uprising, The Future Of Warfare (Building Blocks Video) & Seven Pillars of wisdom [Animated History Video's]: Night Witches and No Bullets Fly (not animated music video's, the animated history/story video's) [Covers]: Kingdom Come [Offical video] and I'm sure people told you but in case, Sabaton have another channel (Sabaton History Channel) where they do a deep dive into the history behind the songs with Indy Nidell.
Sabaton is a Swedish metal/powermetal band that write songs about historical events. Sabaton writes songs from all nations and ages but has droped two albums about WW1. The focus is bravery and sacrifice. Its always respectfully done and you can check out the backstory on the Sabaton History channel. Lastly Sabaton is fun. Their shows are incredible and as far as I can recall their biggest show was in Poland for a crowd that was way above half a million people.
A sabaton is a part of full plate armour. It covers the foot. Primo Victoria is another Sabaton song and is the reason every Sabaton fan will always remember the date for D-Day. The crew scuttled the ship because the rudder was damaged by a lucky torpedo hit. Even with all the firepower thrown at it, the Allies couldn't sink the Bismarck. The crew scuttled the ship to keep its secrets out of Allied hands because of the advancements in its design. Sabaton has like 10 studio albums and they are all songs about historical events and people. They are power metal but with a bias towards history and education so that we don't forget the names and exploits of those who died.
This band writes songs from every perspective and about every nation, of both world wars, this band just wants to share history, they have taken no side in each war.
The way I view something like this, is that it brings to life in music a historical event. The event,, whatever it was, happened, ignoring it does not change that. I do not believe, from what I have heard of Sabaton, that they glorify any aspect of the war events they bring to music, nor do they make geo-political statements of the events they sing about. They simply tell a story. Whatever the rights or wrongs of any given war, there will be bravery and sacrifice on both sides amongst men and women who did not start the war or ask that it be started, and most would not wish to be part of it, they are often all victims of circumstance. Sabaton is a really cool band imho, and I love what they do.
Love that you are starting to explore Sabaton. They have a history channel as well where you can find out a lot more information. Basicly they´re a bunch of history teachers that started a band to teach more history. If you choose to listen to swedish versions of their other songs, be sure to turn on the translation as some of the songs exists in both swedish and english, but some of the texts are different.
sabaton it's classified as power metal band from Sweden most knowning for talk about of true events in the lirics all concerned to military history always and their characters, heroes, battles, etc.
I am from Germany and have also read history books ... The Royal Navy is the high pride of the English (Port Royal the way from Europe to America and more) - Yes, the Bismarck was one of two of the largest battleships from Germany (Rihanna Movie Battleship as an example of the size)... The Bismarck and the Hood (both the pride of the Navy) met - the Hood was sunk by the Bismarck. Torpedo planes hit the Bismarck and the rudder was damaged so that she could only sail in circles - and could therefore be shot down as an easy target.
5:45-ish. I think this is my favourite part of when people discover Sabaton. "WOW, dude, this is dope. Love the music! Graphics are amazing ... lemme just find out about this. ... OOOH, knowledge!" These guys are the world's coolest history teachers. Go Sabaton! No roasting at all, Friend. Just love from the middle of Canada. I've long been fascinated by history, and I didn't know a TENTH of what I've learned from Sabaton songs (and the resultant looking around for more information).
Many documentaries stories came from the events around Bismarck. A nation mobilized to search the seas for a convoy raider that sank the "pride of the Royal Navy". Hood needed an armor upgrade but as a showboat, it kept getting delayed for port visits and a shell into the magazine ended the need for upgrades.
If you go into Sabaton, I HIGHLY recommend "no bullets fly". In best case the animated story video, because in that they preface the song with the story it is about. And its a beautiful story (as far as WWII stories go). Either way its a fantastic song.
Forgot to add that this being the Christmas season, you need to react to Sabaton's "Christmas Truce." And as other posters wrote, "No Bullets Fly" is also a Christmas time true story about WW2. Be sure to watch it to the very end. And "En livsted i krig" live in gothenberg. There are English and Swedish lyrics. There's also "The Final Solution," which they usually don't play live, but there is a video of this song live in Cracow, Poland. There's also "Father," about the guy who invented a way to feed millions, but also created poison gas for the battlefield.
Dude, if you want to know what a song is about, check Sabaton History, they have history lessons about the songs subjects, each song has an associated episode.
Knowing about Bismark from the National Geographic issue actually made me want to join the US Navy from a very early age. Just seemed so cool when I was like 10 years old.
In world war 2 the Germans concentrated mainly on their Army, and didn’t have the resources to challenge the British navy which was the most powerful navy in Europe. However, they had 2 ideas to fight the British navy - build lots of submarines and build a few “super battleships” that would outrun any British battleship. But was powerful enough to smash anything that was as fast as it. The Germans had this idea that their new super modern battleship called the Bismarck would go out into ocean and sink all allied ships supplying Britain. At the time, the British had smaller ships called destroyers guarding cargo ships from America supplying Britain. These destroyers were specially designed to fight off submarines but would be no match against the Battleship Bismarck. The British worried about this because as an island nation, if they were cut off from supplies if their supply ships were sunk they would be screwed. so the British sent a force to go after the Bismarck. In the first battle, the Bismarck sunk a British battleship called the Hood, and 1400 British sailors died on the ship! The British were pissed that one of their battleships got sunk and so many men died so they made an all out effort to sink the Bismarck. In the video you see they had biplanes launch torpedoes at Bismarck. These planes were slow and obsolete even then, and the Bismarck had lots of anti aircraft guns so it took a lot of guts for the British pilots to go after the Bismarck. The British pilots managed to damage the engines of the Bismarck so it couldn’t outrun the British Battheships. In the last battle, a wounded Bismarck was surrounded by 2 British battleships and about a dozen other British ships and they pummeled the Bismark until it sunk. 2000 German sailors died, and about 100 survived and were captured. The scene in the end is one German sailor getting rescued. The music video is about a former German sailor returning to the place where the Bismarck was sunk holding a momento from the captain. The bismark is famous in world war 2 because it briefly panicked the British because it was a “super modern battleship” and they had to pull out all the stops to sink it, but even then it managed to sink a British battleship and kill a lot of people which shocked Britain at the time since they thought they had the best navy in the world.
Song did exactly what it was supposed to do.. learning something new every day! Great reaction.. wonder if the drummer is still looking for you how u fancied his wife 😅
40 years of my life mostly I've listened to rock, metal and blues and Sabaton is definitely in my top 10. How they tell the stories is amazing. This is how exactly music was born tell the stories and those stories won't be forgotten become myths and become songs.
There is a movie called Sink The Bismark (black n white 60`s vintage) - Bismark was sunk by the British combined fleets as it was a HUGE threat to Britain and its food and weapons ship convoys crossing the Atlantic to keep Britain in the war
Next you should do No Bullets Fly by Sabaton. Its a heart warming story. Sabaton as a band does not speak of the political side but the human side of the stories. In this song the sailors were merely fighting for their country and most did not know about the evil that was taking place at the time. This is their story and how they were hunted down on their first time at sea because they were considered such a threat that they could not be allowed to join the Atlantic fleet. The British sent their most powerful ships at this and even lost their flag ship in the first engagement. The captain of the boat that the band was playing on happens to be the grandson of the young sailor that you see throughout the video on the Bismarck that survived the destruction. This was the story of his grandfather and his time in the German Navy. You can have a open discussion at any point, only one side tries to shut down discussion. Politics will come up sadly but you need to stand strong against the hate that tries to shut down discussion. You seem like a person with a hunger to learn and that is willing to take part in discussions.
As a Briton in my sixties I was brought up with the second world war and because my father did his national service in the merchant navy after the war the battle of the Atlantic was very important to him and the hunt for the Bismarck was one of the great battles between the German and British navies. The Nazi component to this battle was small. The Nazis commissioned the ship and it was BIG and a threat to the British navy and the lifeline of supplies that the British needed So the British went after the Bismarck as soon as it left the Baltic. It lasted EIGHT days in the North Atlantic though it sank HMS Hood with 1415 hands aboard (only three survived) It was basically target no. 1 for the British and HMS Ark Royal an aircraft carrier launched torpedo planes which crippled the Bismarck She was rudderless and the German commander decided to scuttle her rather than allow her to fall into enemy hands. This was the start of the end for big battleships and the rise of the aircraft carriers in WW2. If you want to see the effect of Sabaton try their song "Uprising" about the Warsaw Uprising especially in front of a Polish audience: ruclips.net/video/BmerZbDPXns/видео.html There is also 40:1 about the resistance to the Nazis by the Poles in 1939 at the start of the European part of WW2 who were outnumbered 40:1 ruclips.net/video/lYkfRzBnydU/видео.html They also do animated stories with the songs This is about the "Night Witches" Women Soviet Pilots in WW2 ruclips.net/video/5YPo8zDkvy4/видео.html If you want to know how Sabaton construct their songs here is "If Sabaton wrote Barbie Girl" ruclips.net/video/e21N7N89aS8/видео.html and how he wrote it: ruclips.net/video/II7chbjy4sI/видео.html Enjoy.
Fun fact: An unknown crewman on the Bismarck owned a cat originally named Sam. After the sinking of the Bismarck, crewmen from HMS Cossack picked him up and named him Oscar after the international Water code for O being Man Overboard. The Cossack was later sunk and transferred to HMS Ark Royal; the same carrier that aided in the sinking of the Bismarck. After the Ark Royal sunk, Sam was rescued and sent back to shore in Ireland where he peacefully lived the rest of his life in a mariners museum. He even got the name Unsinkable Sam.
the guy who plays the Bismarcks Captain. Is the son, of the sailor that was portrayed in the clip. The sailor that was last in contact with the actual Captain of the Bismarck.
7:35 - Taking Down bismark was a team effort on the part of the British navy, Torpedo Bombers from HMS Royal Disabled her Steering, Allowing the British to catch up with here, Destroyers harrassed her including the Polish Destroyer Piorun which esstenall shot everything they had at Bismark dispite being outgunned and out classed all while signalling "I am Pole", then the British Battleships HMS Rodney and HMS King George to pummel Bismark with there big guns, then finnally one the Bismark was burning hulk the Cruiser HMS Dorchester preformed the Coup De Gras with her torpedos.
Sabaton tells true History in every song they make! I recommend "No Bullets fly" and "1916". You have to watch all Sabaton videos till the very end! Btw: The drummer of Sabaton ist the husband of Floor Janson, Singer of Nightwish!
If you want to know a subtle but MASSIVE gem. The information written on the locket/compass are the actual geo-cordinates for wher the Bismark was sunk.
The man in the video is a descended from one of the survivors, the watch with the coordinates is Bismarcks resting place. The video itself is a collab with the game World of Warships, which Bismarck is part of the German tech tree
For explanation as an German the bismarck was named after the founder of modern Germany who was maybe the best politican and diplomat to ever exist even though he was more of an monarchist then an fasc*ist the Ship was one of two ships of the Bismarck class which got decommisened later in the war because the ships were to expensive and Plan X got scrapped(plan x was the german plan to build an highsea navy it got scrapped in favor of spamming submarines) the Kriegsmarine was just the german navy if anyone wondered edit: just watched video to end so know now most of the comment is not important but many people think the nazis were blindly supported by the germans even though most germans didnt liked the nazis and most people were conscripted it is normal for an German to have an grandfather who fought or built weapons or stuff like that in reality the soldiers more supported Zentrum(an illegal german democratic movement/party) or in some of the older parts of the military also the kaiser
People who study history objectively want to tell all the stories. Not just the stories of the victors. So you don't need to be pro something to retell and enjoy an historic story. This is one such story of an amazing powerhouse of an battleship that everyone feared and people just could not sink so they had to throw their all at it. In the end the Bismarck got hit on its rudders and could only sail in circles. With no way out the Germans decided to sink their ship themselves so the allies could not enter it and steal their secrets. Thats how powerful the Bismarck was and why people are vaccinated by the story even tho they don't support the actions of WW2 Germany.
I am Latino who served in the U.S. Marines. You have to remember at the start of the war everyone thought it was a good thing so people fought for them thinking they where doing something good. there allies as well. but none the less they where soldiers fighting for there country.
The young man in the water in the video is the father of the captain of the boat that Sabaton performed on. The compass you see came from the captain of the Bismarck.
If you want more understanding in the fun way, Sabaton also has a history channel with a short, entertaining explanation of the story behind most of their songs.
Sabaton are technically power metal. They are anti-war but pro-soldier, and their songs are usually about the people caught up in war: their ingenuity, compassion, bravery, determination, or the tragedy of losing those things. They will write songs about people of any nation, and they often have "easter eggs" or bonus info in their videos even if you don't follow their history channel. Try the music video for _Christmas_ _Truce_ before the season's over, then _1916._ After that we can hopefully get you on to the animated story videos...
If school had Sabaton songs in school kids would know about history. All their songs are true war events. They research all before creating a song. These guys are from Sweden, Finland.
Sabaton doesn't take sides or promote any ideologies. All they do is tell historical accounts of things that happened that need to be remembered. My personal favorite of theirs is a cover of a Motörhead song called '1916'. I highly recommend it if you want to hear more from them. Here's a link to the video: ruclips.net/video/HgGhhnQB1gw/видео.htmlsi=ju6Un8QPx9rEP5Av
Someone described Sabaton to me as valor metal, It tells history that knows no borders or Ideology if they sing it it deserves the recognition. Just my opinion.
Little Education now😅: The Bismarck sank in a battle against 4 ships (2 Battleships and 2 heavy cruisers) and an entire squadron of aircraft. But she still took two ships into the depths. The Bismarck was hit on the rudder by a torpedo from the aircraft and was no longer able to maneuver and then she came under fire from more than 700 rounds for 90 minutes before she finally sank. was also called a fortress on water or Beast made of steal.
Sabaton doesn't endorse any politics or political leaders in their songs. They are just honoring the common soldiers, sailors, and airmen on all sides who are nothing but pawns in war.
Sabaton´s songs are based on real events or persons in history. they don´t care which country or which time in human history, they tell the story simply based on known facts without taking sides. Oh, I guess you allready know they´re from Sweden and doing the thing since 1999
The band Sabaton (and yes, the word is related to "Sabotage", they share a root) is a Swedish heavy metal band who primarily focus on military history with their songs, though they occasionally do tributes to other heavy metal acts. (They have a series of songs called "Metal X" that each tributes other bands in different ways, my favorite is "Metal Crue", where almost all the words of the lyrics are the names of metal bands). They are not Nazis and are very critical of Nazi Germany. This song, in particular, is less about the people crewing the ship and more about the ship itself which was one of the largest battleships ever made and a true monster of the sea. Also, it should be noted that, historically, the Kriegsmarine and "The Madman" did not get along. Sabaton also has a second RUclips channel (Sabaton History) where they teach the history that the song is about as well as the story of making the song. You should check it out. It is hosted by Indy Nidel and he is really charismatic and enthusiastic about history and does a great job presenting the historical narrative.
A sabaton is the plate over the instep on medieval armored boots. The band has been described as “if your history professor started a metal band”. Every song is historical. It’s what they do.
Sabaton are about history and things that really happened. Sabaton are not taking sides. Their songs are about wars through history not just WW1+WW2 and people involved in those events. Sabaton songs are basically history lessons.
Sabaton are singing and playing about true history events all over the world. Go check out their song/Musicvideo to their song "Devil Dogs" or Christmas Truce....
That was my first reaction too. Until I found out that they make history into music. It is everything from heroism (regardless of nations etc), achievements, impressive and “impossible” feats, to friendship on the battlefield.
i am glad that you are open minded about METAL. I know that you love NIGHTWISH ALSO. FLOOR JANSEN the lead singer from Nightwish and Hannes the Drummer from Sabaton are married couple. And we in The Netherlands are so proud on Floor that she is a Dutch girl, and that she brought METAL to our country.
sabaton is a swedish band they dedicate their songs to historical events. my grandfathers father fought for germany in the waffen-ss and got lost in war but he never wanted to fight for anything but as a man you were forced to fight.. most man in this time dont wanted to fight but they thought they had no choice. thats why they say "war knows no nation" cause we still should remember our ancestors no matter if they german or american
Oh brother, you just scratched the surface with them. How they tell the stories is unique. Most of the time sending chills down my spine! You are in journey of emotions with Sabaton. Always!
The fact that you went and read about Bismarck and learned something new is what the point of their songs is.
All according to plan. Make the victim think it was their idea. Smart.
@@Tillman581 Nobosy cares what russia thinks anyway lol
well said
@@pistonhead3815 I think they kinda do when the lose out on a gig, especially when they were going to play at the site of a battle for it's 100's anniversary :/
@@Tillman581tf you talking about, Russian metalheads love Sabaton, it has never been banned here as far as I know
Nice, open-minded reaction. 2024 is the band's 25th anniversary. They stay so true to history they hire historians when they can't get the details they need. They also have a Sabaton History Channel with more detail than can be put into their songs. They are about telling and keeping history alive with just the actual facts with no judgement. They don't express their personal feelings
History should never be censored. Facts are facts.
History should never be cancelled. It happened and people need to take it in context and not view it through a modern lens to the point that they want it erased or altered to suit their modern sensibilities.
@shawnj1966 well said history should be preserved
"There's no special effects, they just went on a boat."
The video 10 seconds later: "Well...about that..."
When the Bismarck emerges from the fog…THAT was badass.

Perfect reccomendation. Perfect song. Perfect story.
Also, "Night witches" and "1916"
This always makes me shed a few tears...

That’s actually really cool. I had no clue
I was there in Gothenburg and can only agree with you.

'They wrote about something specific'... who want's to tell him about these guys?
Sabaton honors and respects the warriors who have fought and died throughout history regardless of country or creed. check out "Purple heart" it always brings a tear to my eye.
What about their cover of 1916?
Bro, you NEED to do a reaction to Christmas truce next, especially with this being a holiday period. If you think Bismarck is good, Christmas truce is their Magnum Opus in my opinion.
100% agree. Christmas truce is a tour de force!
"1916" and " Christmas Truce" are musical and cinematic masterpieces, too !!!
I might add: 1916 by Motörhead is also great. Album and Song🤘stay Heavy.
By the way: Bismarck was at that time the biggest battleship in the world, not only from the european perspective...
Christmas Truce for sure! Makes me tear up every time. Fields of Verdun is also fantastic.
Welcome to historical Rock and Roll. Sabaton's music is based on battles, ships, from the wars we have all ready fought. You really should watch Christmas Truce, that video will make you cry. The drummer is married to Flor from Nightwish. Flor also sings the ending of Christmas Truce.
PS. Also Night Witches - great song about an all female military aviators.
Sabaton have a history channel about the story behind their songs and how/why they wrote them.
You have now opened a door you will never be able to close. Some of Sabaton's work will literally have you in tears.
Sabaton is military history themed metal (some say they're power metal)
Small gems in this video:
-The radio at the beginning is about the beginning of the hunt for Bismarck. The Bismarck sunk the Hood (England's flagship) in one lucky shot, with almost no survivors.
-The ship name in the stencil (Primo Victoria) was the first hit album (the one earlier was very different)
-The old man at the beginning was supposed to be the kid that was saved at the end of the video
The video tried to follow what actually happened.
Tips when watching Sabaton:
#1- Always turn on subtitles watching the first time! Immense amount of history/info in the lyrics.
Expect a banger of a song.
Watch again after reading the history of the song to catch more references you missed.
(They have a channel called Sabaton History where they to a 15-20 minute episode about some of the history behind it, and some of why/how the song was made)
For this one, there are literally hours of videos here on RUclips about the hunt for the Bismarck and why it was so important to WWII. If it wasn't sunk on its first mission, Germany might have been able to prevent the US from doing as much as it did in Europe. Defeating one took 2 out of the war.
I know this is an older video but heres more info on the bismark-
The Bismark was a german battleship in world war two it was the 2nd biggest battlship built in Europe only behind its sister ship.
I recommend reacting to ‘82nd All The Way’
The song is about Alvin York and his heroic act of bravery in the face of danger.
The singer, Joakim, has said in interviews after the Carolus Rex album dealing with the Swedish "Great Power Era", for which they were criticized for supporting nationalism by making that:
"We just play heavy metal, we leave politics to others"
or something to that effect.
For them it's more about telling the stories of men and women who fought for their country and making sure people do not forget them and their bravery and sacrifice.
I think rhey are kinda the bards of our era. They sing about battles (Cliffs of Gallipoli,The attack of the dead men), heroes of war (Lady of the dark, The unkillable soldier), Military units (Winged Hussars, Night Witches), Last Standings (The last Stand, Resist and Bite), Weaponry Improvements (Steel Commanders, Father) or events like the Christmas Truce or the amazing story in No
Bullets Fly.
(except for some Wacken video's that gets blocked by Wacken)

Oh finally SABATON !!!! Time for some heavy metal History lessons !!!
About 90% of their songs are dedicated to battles and wars throughout history.
Cristmas truce and no bullets fly always make me tear up and cry. Because theyre tales of brotherly wars.
sabaton it's classified as power metal band from Sweden most knowning for talk about of true events in the lirics all concerned to military history always and their characters, heroes, battles, etc.
Congratulations on the start of your Sabaton history lessons, keep your mind and ears open and you will not be dissapointed.
Same but the Royal Navy.
People do not learn enough history anymore. I learned about the Bismarck in my high school history class in the mid 1980s.
Sabaton is foot armour, the band puts a lot of time money and heart into their videos
As a Briton in my sixties
I was brought up with the second world war
and because my father did his national service
in the merchant navy after the war
the battle of the Atlantic was very important to him
and the hunt for the Bismarck was one of the great battles
between the German and British navies.
The Nazi component to this battle was small.
The Nazis commissioned the ship
and it was BIG and a threat to the British navy
and the lifeline of supplies that the British needed
So the British went after the Bismarck as soon as it left the Baltic.
It lasted EIGHT days in the North Atlantic
though it sank HMS Hood with 1415 hands aboard
(only three survived)
It was basically target no. 1 for the British
and HMS Ark Royal an aircraft carrier
launched torpedo planes which crippled the Bismarck
She was rudderless and the German commander decided to scuttle her
rather than allow her to fall into enemy hands.
This was the start of the end for big battleships
and the rise of the aircraft carriers in WW2.

Fun fact:
An unknown crewman on the Bismarck owned a cat originally named Sam.
All their songs are historical.
Allmost all but not all of them
Its about time this dude finally heard Sabaton lol
If you want to know a subtle but MASSIVE gem. The information written on the locket/compass are the actual geo-cordinates for wher the Bismark was sunk.
The man in the video is a descended from one of the survivors, the watch with the coordinates is Bismarcks resting place.
The video itself is a collab with the game World of Warships, which Bismarck is part of the German tech tree
It not a watch its a compass
@@kathnunan641 my bad.
I have a PhD in history just from listening to Sabaton.
For explanation as an German the bismarck was named after the founder of modern Germany who was maybe the best politican and diplomat to ever exist even though he was more of an monarchist then an fasc*ist the Ship was one of two ships of the Bismarck class which got decommisened later in the war because the ships were to expensive and Plan X got scrapped(plan x was the german plan to build an highsea navy it got scrapped in favor of spamming submarines) the Kriegsmarine was just the german navy if anyone wondered
edit: just watched video to end so know now most of the comment is not important but many people think the nazis were blindly supported by the germans even though most germans didnt liked the nazis and most people were conscripted it is normal for an German to have an grandfather who fought or built weapons or stuff like that in reality the soldiers more supported Zentrum(an illegal german democratic movement/party) or in some of the older parts of the military also the kaiser
I dont know if youll see this, but its worth taking note that EVERY song Sabaton makes is tied to historical events and true stories.
THIS video was my first introduction (Swedish) to Sabaton. Been in love ever since.
Here's a link to the video:

Someone described Sabaton to me as valor metal, It tells history that knows no borders or Ideology if they sing it it deserves the recognition. Just my opinion.
Yep. They just went on a boat and performed❤ they are the real deal and bring history to life!
Sabaton is a Swedish band that writes songs about war and historical events from a neutral side
the history of what happend is important. no mater what the outcome was....we must remember or it will happen again..
Sabaton is the cool history teacher of the metal world
Sabaton´s songs are based on real events or persons in history. they don´t care which country or which time in human history, they tell the story simply based on known facts without taking sides.
This band is about sharing war/battle history through song. No politics or beliefs involved just history. Really need to check out Christmas Truce
Love Sabaton
You get kickass Music with a History Lesson
A sabaton is the plate over the instep on medieval armored boots. The band has been described as “if your history professor started a metal band”. Every song is historical. It’s what they do.
If you like the storytelling you HAVE to see "No Bullets Fly" animated.
😂😂😂😂. No special effects right 😮 Sabaton might be the biggest rabbit hole you never will get out from. Best storytelling band out there ❤❤
Sabaton are about history and things that really happened.
My personal favorite from Sabaton is "Night Witches". There's a story to every song, but that one strikes me as particularly well told.
Always!
The best history teachers for young and old! Please, do more reactions of sabaton. There videos are amazing..
Great reaction buddy!
Greetings from Sweden
