The Attack of the Dead Men, or the Battle of Osowiec Fortress, was a battle of World War I that took place at Osowiec Fortress (now northeastern Poland), on August 6, 1915. The incident got its name from the bloodied, zombie-like appearance of the Russian combatants after they were bombarded with a mixture of poison gases, chlorine and bromine by the Germans. While coughing up blood, the Russians covered their faces with cloths and managed to rout German forces.
They were coughing up more then just blood, with that chemical mixture odds are some of them would have literally been coughing up bits of their own lungs.
i have heard they were so messed up by the gases that they could not feel anymore pain so they kept advancing even after getting shot (exept of instant kill hits like head, heart and lungs) what striked even more fear in the german army. is that true?
@@roberturlaub8526 im sure some of them were pumped full of adrenaline or had such major damage to their body their pain receptions had checked out. But I never heard about all of them being unable to feel pain during this.
@@roberturlaub8526 I don't know if they didn't feel pain but yeah, apparently they refused to go down and some of the germans died to their own landmiens because they thought they were fighting actual zombies and just wanted to hightail out of there
Also, Sabaton actually has a History channel where they have teamed up with an American Historian and go in depth into the stories that the songs are about, so if you find a song that peaks your interest and want to learn more - see if the channel Sabaton History has an episode about the song. It features parts of the music though, so I wouldn't recommend doing it with a song you plan on doing a blind reaction to.
If you really want to learn history, Sabaton got you covered, they got a history channel as well where they take the songs and explain the history behind
Yes. The best bet is for these older videos, see if there's a matching Sabaton History video. My knowledge of the two World Wars and a lot of historic battles and individuals that never get taught in the US school system. And even better, the catchy lyrics stick dates in your head that will remain with you should you ever need to know that the sack of Rome occurred in 1527 or that "Death from Above" is the motto of the 82nd Airborne.
Awesome! You really can't go wrong with Sabaton. One recomendation would be "No bullets fly" - there is an animated music video to it, that expands on the story and give context.
I think he should do that one aswell, so freakin good! Was thinking about that the other day when I watched it, and searched if he have done a reaction to that one yet, and he had not!
Black Pegasus, yep, they mostly sing about historical events. They do concept albums about various war themes, like Heroes, The Last Stand, The War to End All Wars. Only their first recorded album, Metalizer, doesn’t deal with history. Btw, Sabaton has their own History Channel. I’d love to see you & Don react to that also. Cheers & have fun with the Sabaton rabbit hole!
As a history buff im proud of you to not only reacting to metal band music but also actually learning history. Something everyone need to do so we do not make same mistakes all over again. Big hug and respect from Sweden
For the fun of it I actually played that last Christmas and my 2 year old niece loved it. Afterwards I played others and she loved them as well since she kept asking for another song from them.

Sabaton definitely is an amazing band all of their music is about history. Definitely check out No bullets fly, Night Witches but make sure they are the animated story telling video they are amazing, Ein Livstid I Krig live but make sure the subtitles are in English cause they are singing in Swedish, Lady of the Dark story telling video and First Soldier story telling video are great and Soldier of Heaven are great. All their songs are amazing definitely welcome down the Sabaton rabbit hole.
wow one of my favorites sabaton song looking forward for it. Sabaton always talking about war history, battles, heroes and everything related with and they're qualify as power metal.
There are so much good Sabaton Videos who teach a Lesson! I highly recommend "no Bullets fly" and "1916", a Motörhead Cover written by Lemmy Kilmister.
Sabaton is crazy good in their story telling. I would definitely recommend "Winged Hussars" and then the live version from Poland. Also "no bullets fly" the original music video (animated) is fantastic. And yes all historical events
The fact that BP is seriously considering how to give a new focus to his art is one of the great things that this channel has done for him. His exposure to great bands like Sabaton and Rammstein, artists like Ren or even funny stuff like ERB, are affecting his taste in music and his lyrical creativity and may well change the direction or the focus of his song subjects. I'm really looking for his reaction to Sabaton's 'No Bullets Fly', 'Night Witches', 'The Last Stand' and their soul-chushing cover of '1916'
Love their 1916, Christmas Truce, and this one most. Remember to watch all the way through, cause they give the history behind the songs. There is another one I love but the name is escaping me. When I remember, I'll add the title. Hugs from Newfoundland 🍁
Im so glad you are doing more reactions to Sabaton, one of my favorites! I think you would app No Bullets Fly yarnhub animated version. So many cool stores sabaton has told
Sabaton is truly amazing! Peace from Belgium! they are all absolute bangers. As an American you should check '82nd all the way' or 'hellfighters'. you gonna like this!
"Last Stand" from Sabaton is certainly a read. You'll get a brief history lesson from the song, only to read about it of just how extensive the HRE's actions were that day to present day. ;) One act changed Europe overnight.
It's so funny seeing you react to sabbaton; I'm a hiphiop-head from Sweden and I was not expecting to find this on your channel! But I appreciate it and I appreciate you - Im'ä check out more sabbaton stuff!
I don't even like metal, but Sabaton is a rabbit hole of its own, which I fell into. Sometimes it's good to read a little about what the song is about before watching, or you should check out their own Sabaton history channel.
This is by far my favorite band of all time. Simple because it's all about war and history. They have over two albums of songs just about WW1 and their second RUclips channel "Sabaton History" that is videos about the history behind the songs. I love and can't wait for their second US tour. I would love to see you're reaction to "Fields of Verdun" its about the longest battle in history!
You should react to 1916 by Sabaton. Its a song originally written by Lemmy Kilminster from Motorhead, but it fits perfectly with Sabatons style and delivery. Great song and video :D
i just commented suggesting Father, since it's literally the origins of this song, but that's also an incredible suggestion. i honestly am trying to learn how to sing to the song, but due to it's key/pitch i have to remain much lower than him and in some parts i have to go LOW, which is hard for me to do. i can do it, but it's REALLY hard a lot of the time. it also sounds off to me. honestly i've thought about uploading an attempt to get a more rounded opinion, good cover or not. can't improve without criticism and critique after all.
@black pegasus You might want to check out Sabatons historical channel. They have a historian explain the context of their songs. Also check out the live in Moscow version of this, with Radio Tapok its well worth it. Last... you might have to stop calling yourself just a rap enjoyer, since you clearly have grown into a music enjoyer.
Really great reaction, you have a new subscriber right here sir! You should absolutely continue reacting to Sabaton. I can recommend that you check out the song Hellfighters from their newest album. Its about the Harlem Hellfighters who were African American soldiers during ww1, whi despite being discriminated harshly still were one of the most fearsome and effective troops of the great war.
Metal bands have always written songs about war and some about history... Iron Maiden wrote 'The Trooper' about the British Ligh Brigade in the Crimean war, and 'Alexander the Great' about the Macedonian conqueror... 'Paschendale' about World War I... etc. Manowar is an American band that made their whole career about medieval, fantasy and swords & sorcery battles... one of their songs 'Spirit Horse of the Cherokee' was inspired by a real event... Sabaton is a band that had made a 25 year career (so far) basing their lyrics entirely on historical battles and wars... and from all over the world. They even covered a Manowar song - 'Kingdom come' 🤘🔥
Joakim Brodén is not only an amazing lyricist and vocalist, but also seems to be an incredible human being. I watched an interview he did with Liz Zharoff from The Charismatic Voice about a year ago. He seems like a big teddy bear.
I think enough people have said about the story of the attack of the dead men so I won't explain any more 😂 If you want to react to more I recommend "1916" or "A Lifetime of War" these are a couple of my favourite songs by Sabaton (also Attack of the Dead Men is one of my favourites too because I love the story behind it) but 1916 and A Lifetime of War made me cry so bad when I heard them both though. Especially A lifetime of War because that song really hits hard with the modern wars going on. "religion and greed cause millions to bleed" is one of the lines in a lifetime of war and it still reigns true to this day. It's some of their slower songs but they are still so powerful and really make you think what it was like and still is like to be a soldier. My grandad was a member of the British Royal Army so all this stuff really hits home for me when I think of his stories and the things he had to go through.
They have a about 5 or 10 songs that has nothing to do with history from back when they were first starting, and a couple that are covers of other bands songs but the majority of their catalog is Historical. People tend to forget those existed or even know those existed as since the album, Primo Victoria which came out in 2005, Sabaton had done almost nothing but songs about history.
One of them is Metal Machine, which I first thought was about tanks or warships, as I was only familiar with their historical warfare rock songs. It's not - it's actually chock-full of references to songs and albums of other heavy metal bands such as Dio, Iron Maiden, KISS, Ozzy Osbourne. There's a lyrics video of the song on RUclips which shows the quoted lyrics and which song they're taken from.
To Hell And Back is a must-watch, it's a powerful song with a powerful story and background. And then follow up by watching the episode for the song/story on the Sabaton History channel, it will give so much info about it and you're guaranteed to learn a thing or two about history if/when you go down the Sabaton rabbit hole. Sabaton and Sabaton History will teach you so much about history, AND they make it fun and entertaining.
They have a couple that are not historical. Metal Machine is a tribute to the OG heavy metal bands and artists. You can get all of the details on the Sabaton History Channel hosted by Indy Neidell. Love your reactions and openness.
This is such a good song too! You also learn stuff, a banger! Great reaction dude! You really need to check out "En livstid i krig" live, and WITH subs, so you can follow what they sing, that song hits me straight where it should, making my eyes sweaty ...
Every country have a story about heroics of their soldiers and Sabaton is on the way to tell all of those stories. And we love them for that. (and yeah, that inspire pride in me to be russian as well as some other songs inspires other people of different nations)
All of their songs are historical except 1 album called Metalizer... I suggest Ghost Division (about German tanks from WW2) LIVE or The Last Stand - official video (about Swiss Guard protecting Vatican and pope - The Sack of Rome 1527)
Great reaction!🤘 Yes, definitely react to more Sabaton, please!😃 "No bullets fly" (animated story video) and "Lady of the Dark" (animated story video).
I must say that I enjoy watching your reactions, especially since you started discovering the metal world. I have been a Sabaton fan for over a decade and I have learned so much from them rocking to good music. Sabaton celebrates their 25th anniversary ths year. So you have a lot of history to learn😂. Some suggestions for further deepdive into their music is; Musicvideos Great war Screaming Eagles Christmas truce Livevideos; Uprising live Woodstock En livstid I krig live Gothemburg (Cc on) Swedish pagans live Wacken Animated story; Nightwitches full animated No bullets fly animated story Lyricvideo; Stormtroopers Hellfighters
Sabaton is an amazing group I advised you to listen to Christmas truce, fields of Verdun, and many others of theirs Songs Wich are incredible. An other great groupe of heavy/power metal is Powerwolf an amazing German band you could start with "Demons are girls beast Friends" which is there more famous music. Great reaction continue like this 💪❤️
If you want historical stories to tell people look up The Fat Electrician. He’s one of the funniest people on RUclips and he breaks down and explains everything in a way that everyone can understand. Also Christmas Truce is another great one to react to, it’s more of a metal ballad, but is very moving. Also if you do react to it, react to the video and stay around for the credits, you might recognize the voice.
Definitely more Sabaton. No bullets Fly and Night Witches were my next two after I RUclips suggested Bismark to me years ago. I now listen to their song Primo Victoria about DDay every June 6th.
KEEP IT UP WITH THE SABATON BROTHERRRR WE GOTTA GET THEIR NAME OUT THERE AS WELL AS GET YOU LEARNING YOUR HISTORY 😂 LOVE YAAN AND KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK ON THIS PLATFORM^^
Sabaton has an amazing History channel here on RUclips. Basically the history lessons we all wish we had at school - it gives the background stories of all their songs. Next up you should DEFINITELY do a reaction to their song The Last Stand. Trust me!
you should react to the sabaton history channel as well, they teamed up with a historian to talk about the history behind the songs they write in the first half of the videos, then a member of sabaton will talk about the music side of things in the second half.
So funny you should stay that at 5:00. Before 2016 I didn't listen to Sabaton didn't know they were a thing. GF actually listened to them without really knowing the history behind their songs. It was playing in the background one day we were hanging out and I started catching some of the lyrics for Price of a Mile, then Gallipoli, then Ghost Division, as I paid more and more attention to each new track I was explaining the battles behind each of them to her. That's when I found out all of their songs were like that. Been a fan ever since.
There is so much learning about warfare and truth behinde the WWll. Keep doing Sabaton, i have one for you 1916 ( motorhead did the orginal) great reaction!
I love seeing people react to things I love as well as things that might not seem like their typical genre. Combined with your genuine interest in both the music and context you've got a winning formula. Gonna go check out the other Sabaton reaction, and recommend 82nd All The Way by Sabaton (Sgt York solos 200 germans) If you're interested in other things in music that aren't the norm, Coheed and Cambria did a 4 album heavy metal space opera (Second stage turbine blade, In keeping secrets of silent eart 3, good apollo i'm burning star 4 vol 1 & 2) then a single album story in the same universe set before the first 4 albums (year of the black rainbow), then a 2 album story set before YOTBR (Afterman Ascension/Descension) and now a 5 albums story set after the first 4 (The Vaxis Pentology). Key Entity Extraction V: Sentry the Defiant, Welcome Home, and The Willing Well III: Apollo 2: The Telling Truth for top 3 to react too.
Sabaton is absolutly amazing, primo victoria, panzerkampf and ghost division are my three all time favorite songs of them, not in that order shared all three places cuz they just as amazing as each other.
Awesome reaction! You should definitely do more Sabaton. 'Uprising' live at Poland Rock or 'en livstid I krig' live in gothenborg are too good ones ⭐️🦄
Two songs: No bullets fly (the animated version) and Christmas truce. Also En livids I Krig ( live version) song is in Swedish but there are subtittles.
If you want to see another Sabaton video, watch Night Witches, there's a history version of it. I'm pretty sure you will like it and be suprised about those incredible women. 😊🤘
WWI the Russians sent so many soldiers at the German lines wave after wave that the Germans started to believe they were reanimating and continuing to charge even though they saw them fall to the mustard and chlorine gas.
Sabaton really started to do the historic Metal since Joakim Broden (the frontsinger) joined the band. Since then, I believe, all Songs have been historic. This specific event took place in WW1, when german troops shelled Osowiec (if thats how you spell it), a fortification in russian control, with poisonous gas to such an extend, that everybody should have died. When Hindenburg (the german General) ordered a general advance, the much larger german force was put to flight when the supposedly dead russians advanced on their positions, some crawling, some walking, some even coughing up parts of their lungs because of the poison they inhaled. At least thats what some german soldiers who whitnessed that event said afterwards. Dont take everything of it for granted but thats how I remember my research into that topic😅. Keep up the Sabaton reactions. One of my favourites is Heart of Iron (If you do that reaction, I would love it, if you could do some research about it beforehand). Much love from Germany❤
Joakim Broden, and Par Sundstrum have been with the band from the beginning, Joakim wrote the music for Metalizer too and the lyrics are mostly by both of them together.🤘 Nowadays it is is still the case for the lyrics, for some of the music Joakim works with Chris or Tommy.
Definetly go and check the animated video Night Witches from Sabaton. Talk about Girl Power! Women who had no fear, attacking from middle night. Dealing death out of nowhere, undetected, unexpected and stealth perfected. 588 risked their lives with outdated and life-treahtning equipment, but still being the utmost bad ass aerial regiment ever!
If you don't know of the history part, you can also make a Google search you know ... In fact there is a sabaton official website to explain them along with lyrics. It's during WWI, back then Poland didn't exist, it belonged to Russia and Germany.
This was dope as hell live. State Theater, Detroit 10/10/2022. It’s actually called Fillmore now, but it’s always the State to me. I even came home from Orlando to see them.
most of their songs are about important historical events and people, not all but..., check out their Sabaton history channel here on RUclips, 120+ history lessons featuring music
Hey there. So glad you enjoy Sabaton too. Your reactions are pretty cool. Maybe try "No Bullets Fly" or "Christmas Truce" too. Very nice storys behind this two too. And i bet there are tons more. Keep going.
My brother had a history homework , he should write about a history war event. He hate history (I love it) I put on a Sabaton music video and he was so inspired by how Sabaton in their songs tells about historical events, never seen him so motivated for a homework 🤘🏻 he got a B on that 😎
If you want some good Sabaton songs about Poland you need to listen to "40-1" and "Uprising". I also love "Aces in Exile" - about foregin pilots fighting in Battle of Britain. Love your selevtion of music to react to man :)
On your comment about using these songs for a pop quiz, I actually did once see a comment from someone saying they wanted to become a history teacher just so they could play all the sabaton songs to their class! 😂 Pretty cool huh?
Yes al is historical about Sabaton! Recomend you to listen to christmas truce, 1916 and why not some of the swedish like Livstid i krig live in Gothenburg..... They make me cry and I love it. So mutch feelings.
This is the most metal song ever. Russian troops didn't have gas masks, and so wrapped themselves up against the gas, which worked for a handful of them. Blood flowed from every hole in their head that was exposed to the gas. Some of them couldn't even walk correct, leading them to crawl down the hill during the charge, wheezing and gasping for air, firing their rifles ahead of them. Russian troops guarding the flanks, who had not been gassed, joined the charge, helping to break the German advance. Holy shit.
Found out about them about 2016 when I first heard 'Primo Victoria' and 'No Bullets Fly'. Favourite band. You just dropped down a rabbit hole.

It's some of their slower songs but they are still so powerful and really make you think what it was like and still is like to be a soldier. My grandad was a member of the British Royal Army so all this stuff really hits home for me when I think of his stories and the things he had to go through.
Thank you for reacting to Sabaton!
Yes "En livstids i krig" is awesome (especially live in Gothenburg)! It is a must.
Every country have a story about heroics of their soldiers and Sabaton is on the way to tell all of those stories.
And we love them for that.
(and yeah, that inspire pride in me to be russian as well as some other songs inspires other people of different nations)
great reaction brother, sabaton is amazing. God bless brother
All of their songs are historical except 1 album called Metalizer... I suggest Ghost Division (about German tanks from WW2) LIVE or The Last Stand - official video (about Swiss Guard protecting Vatican and pope - The Sack of Rome 1527)
Great reaction!🤘 Yes, definitely react to more Sabaton, please!😃
"No bullets fly" (animated story video) and "Lady of the Dark" (animated story video).
A natural follow up song would be Father; you'll understand why.
Father is the perfect follow up
I concur
I must say that I enjoy watching your reactions, especially since you started discovering the metal world. I have been a Sabaton fan for over a decade and I have learned so much from them rocking to good music. Sabaton celebrates their 25th anniversary ths year. So you have a lot of history to learn😂.

En livstid I krig live Gothemburg (Cc on) is a must to react on if you gonna react to Sabaton
Great reaction continue like this 💪❤️
If you enjoyed this, you need to check out Ghost in the Trenches. Similar thing with the lyric visualizer. But the solo alone...purely addicting.
Definitely do more Sabaton. They have a great sound and delivery with their story telling.
Never a war crime the first time
Definitely more Sabaton. No bullets Fly and Night Witches were my next two after I RUclips suggested Bismark to me years ago. I now listen to their song Primo Victoria about DDay every June 6th.
Absolutely worth doing more sabaton, if the vid doesnt tell the story, google or comments will tell it.
I would love to see you explore their collabs with yarnhub. No bullets fly, Nightwishes and so on... Those are iiiiiinsane.
Gonna go check out the other Sabaton reaction, and recommend 82nd All The Way by Sabaton (Sgt York solos 200 germans)
If you're interested in other things in music that aren't the norm, Coheed and Cambria did a 4 album heavy metal space opera (Second stage turbine blade, In keeping secrets of silent eart 3, good apollo i'm burning star 4 vol 1 & 2) then a single album story in the same universe set before the first 4 albums (year of the black rainbow), then a 2 album story set before YOTBR (Afterman Ascension/Descension) and now a 5 albums story set after the first 4 (The Vaxis Pentology).
No bullets fly the animated video is really good. Look on that
Awesome reaction! You should definitely do more Sabaton. 'Uprising' live at Poland Rock or 'en livstid I krig' live in gothenborg are too good ones ⭐️🦄
En livstid i krig is just amazing, the live in Gothenburg really hits where it should!
You have to react to this one by Sabaton!!
ruclips.net/video/wvtzQbMfgZM/видео.htmlsi=-45XYbAmZnuQQlvl
U can check their animated videos to like 'Night Witches" or "No bullets Fly" those 2 are like documentaries.
not the animated videos but The animated STORY VIDEO the animated videos are just the videos to the story vid
Sabaton has so freaking many good songs about History. Especially "The Final Solution" hit me pretty hard when i listened to it the first time.
Yeah you got another subscriber! More SABATON!!!
Sabaton is exploding on all reaction vids..battels and sorrow and friendship in wars of life.
Definitely a cool war story, sabaton has a history Channel too
Two songs: No bullets fly (the animated version) and Christmas truce. Also En livids I Krig ( live version) song is in Swedish but there are subtittles.
If you want to see another Sabaton video, watch Night Witches, there's a history version of it. I'm pretty sure you will like it and be suprised about those incredible women. 😊🤘
You shoul check out tommy johansson the sabaton guitarist.....that guy has to be 1 of the best male vocalists i have ever heard
Watch Sabaton history to learn more about the story behind their songs. And take a look at their animated stories
Welcome to the Sabaton family my friend!!!
Please do "en livstid i krig" next. It's one of the best if not THE best song from Sabaton. Also consider 1916, The Carolean's Prayer and Carolus Rex.
Joakim Broden, and Par Sundstrum have been with the band from the beginning, Joakim wrote the music for Metalizer too and the lyrics are mostly by both of them together.🤘
Nowadays it is is still the case for the lyrics, for some of the music Joakim works with Chris or Tommy.
It's during WWI, back then Poland didn't exist, it belonged to Russia and Germany.
i saw them live last year.. you cant imagine..
Totally here for this rabbit hole!
Night witches is definitely one to watch and follow up with their history channel 🖤
Sabaton is one of the most important bands of today because considering the state of the world WE ALL NEED A GOD DAMN HISTORY LESSON !
No bullets fly, animated video, you are not going to regret it.

I am a late Bloomer like you Pre occupied with other things when i was a younger man !!! Never to late to learn it up keep on keeping on
"Two combatants spar. Hindenburg against the Tzar" is such an incredibly brief but masterful piece of writing.
I suggest Bismark, Christmas Truce and the cover of 1916. Great songs from Sabaton
On your comment about using these songs for a pop quiz, I actually did once see a comment from someone saying they wanted to become a history teacher just so they could play all the sabaton songs to their class! 😂 Pretty cool huh?
I´m already looking forward for next Sabaton reaction. There are so many song from history to enjoy and learn from.
They (Sabaton) have a History channel. You can raise your knowledge about history to the next level. 🇵🇱❤️
Amazing song and story
Yes al is historical about Sabaton! Recomend you to listen to christmas truce, 1916 and why not some of the swedish like Livstid i krig live in Gothenburg..... They make me cry and I love it. So mutch feelings.

As Sabaton goes you should really see their song 40:1 live from Woodstock (polish festival), will blow your mind!
oh my he did a sabaton reaction, i can tell hes gonna love em and i didnt even watch the video yet
Holy shit.
