Is it weird that I’m just as mesmerized by the tea making as I am of the blacksmithing?
Nope. Its part of the charm's energy
Tatooine has blue milk....
Came here just see what the tea was
He makes it look so good, now I drink exotic tea in my shop when making knives!
Not at all. I’m fascinated with it too.
Sir you are a damascus wizard. That is just what you are. You can take about anything and make it beautiful. This blade is amazing. You are a very talented man and I thank you for showing use your talent. I love your channel. Thank you for entertaining us especially with everything that is going on. May God bless you and your family.
Agree 100%. He is an artist of steel.
How and where can you buy his blades ?
You must use anvil and hammer only.
If you use machine,
you can't feel when holy spirit goes into blade.
Result - bad knaif
Always love that second pressing you do when first setting the welds. Goes from a 4 or 5 inch chunk of steel to a 2 inch just like that!
Unlike the show Forged In Fire where they often attempt to weld at lower temp to save time - hence their horrid inclusions and flakes of steel a lot of times - proper welding temperature is _just_ before melting temperature. The steel is in a near molten state, teetering on the edge of a solid _(think insanely hot, thick jell-o),_ and as such is extremely easy to manipulate. You CAN use a hammer, as opposed to a press, but you risk a slightly glancing, or off center, blow... which completely breaks the initial soft weld. Not only do you then start all over - you may have just made a kg of, basically, scrap.
If he's like me he turns his scrap back into rod/square stock for later projects - but scrap reclamation is tedious. Thus why it's one of the _first_ things I have an apprentice learn to do... I don't want to do it myself, and they learn hammer control, and welding temperature/temperature management, with the practice. It's better to just use a press, if you have one. Forging is far more about technique than power _(steel will mold almost like butter under your hammer at proper temperature - there is not need to strike hard unless you are still trying to shape after it has cooled below proper temp),_ and a press removes many variables that even the best smith cannot avoid at all times when it comes to forge welding.
I know a blacksmiths shop is loud, smokey, dangerous, and dirty. Yet watching you work is so relaxing and your projects always look so clean. I keep thinking I want a handforged Damascus knife. I'm a poor old man been forced into early retirement by cancer so it's just a wish.
@Brian Miller
I don't imagine that I'd be able to afford one either, but if I win the lottery I'll get you one too.
I'm watching your skills since 4 years, and I'm every time impressed.

Ok, that was the most beautiful knife blade I've ever seen.
Wow what a masterpiece creation Dimitri. Always amazed at everything you make.
Just amazing. Seriously a work of art. My inspiration to want to learn comes from your work Dmitry. Please continue to show new ideas.
This guy is the best secret on RUclips, how he doesn't have millions of subscribers is beyond me
He makes the Damascus dance inside the steel forever. Such desirable artistic knives: someday for me I dream.
Inspiring your blades look so unreal I hope one day I learn how to make something that looks half as good as your WOW and thanks for sharing
4:33 What a Master piece
I appreciate all your hard work and teaching all of us along the way!
I’ve been a welder for 30+years and it is still just as fascinating as the very first time. There is something satisfying and relaxing the way you move the metal. I try to put as much pride as you do in my work. Maybe one day I’ll be on your level? 🙏maybe. Beautiful work sir simply amazing
These are absolutely stunning blades, Dmitry! Great video!
Stunning as always Dmitry - I'd love to own one of your pieces one day.
I'd consider it a privilege.
Beautiful.
Ian Macfarlane you can buy them on his website
@John Matrix In the description above.
Just buy one, as the others have suggested?
He's got links all over his channel, or you could just Google "Shurap", worst case scenario.

This is my favorite design I've seen you make so far. It is so intricate and complex!
You make the coolest looking tea and knifes !
I'm curious what kind of tea that was. Don't think I've ever seen *blue* tea before o.o
@@ProfessorYana I'm pretty sure it's Butterfly Pea Flower, which imo needs something added to it for taste because it's kind of plain. Real cool looking stuff though.

Wow, that is just a crazy cool pattern and I love it!
Me: Ah, that's hot.
Shurap: Wipes scale with his hand
In some videos he wipes it off the hot steel and every time I just think: that is a hefty pair right there
Are those black flaky stuff impurities from the metal?
@@ateuslol4376 not necessarily
its called forge scale and is just a byproduct of the forging process caused by heating it up and oxidation occurring
He is one bad Dude! Awesome Work.
I did that once. With gloves on. It still burnt.
Beautiful work, dude. Really amazing how beautiful it turned out! 😃
Stay safe with your family! 🖖😊
You make Smith look better than goldsmith .. creativity has no boundaries.. genius work
What a beautiful final blade, thank you for sharing your process with us.

Thank you for entertaining us all! Amazing work!
Awesome. I love watching the build come together. Seeing the patterns and the method you use to make these beautiful knives.
This is relaxing to watch 👌🔥
His automatic hammer sounds like a machinegun and I love it.
American i assume?
American spotted.
One of the most beautiful Damascus patterns I've never seen
I love how you manage to make such a complex and breathtaking Damascus process look so completely run-of-the-mill.
Like "yeah but have you seen the tea. . ." 🤣👍
This blade was made with the finest tea leaves
Those were not leaves but rose petals. If you have a rose bush you can make the same kind of tea yourself, just take the petals from one flower and put them in hot water for 5 minutes and strain into a mug for a tea fit for royalty.
@@JETWTF that's ain't rose's.. the flower name is blue butterfly pea.. dry it first with sundry.. and you good to go..

Thank you, I've been curious to the tea you drink for ages!
I was wondering what you drank there..I literally thought you were going to use it on the knife itself for a second there lol. Like dunk the blade in the blue stuff. But nope, you drank it apparently. Thanks!

The vibrancy in his teas really blow me away 🥂
Am I the only one that thinks using different colors of playdoh or putty would be a good way for students and masters to help design patterns easily?
That is a good idea! A bit of a waste of Play-Doh, unfortunately.
actually, we've done this often, also not just for damascus but big forgings, to get an idea of the grainflow.

Once again , beautiful . Love watching your blades take shape . 👍
That dancing line is incredible. Amazing work!
I've been watching for some time, and I really appreciate the tips on your flux mix materials. Every time I watch, you've done something new with your work. Especially liked the dragon knife. This one is REALLY complex, and beautiful! Keep doing what you do, you amaze us all!
One big question: why do you seem to do an internal tang so much, instead of a full tang?
I like it more
Could you share the mixture you use for flux? I don't recall what it is.
@@dansworkshop1972 I sprinkle flux (90% borax + 5% quartz sand + 5% charcoal powder) this is necessary for forging (forge) welding. The flux is alloyed with scale - the formed substance is sufficiently fluid and is easily displaced by deformation. In addition, the flux protects against oxygen and charcoal, carburizes the surface layer of metal - which lowers the welding temperature (if in brief).
Is there any way to buy one of your blades ? I live in united States. Arkansas specifically .
Never realized the amount of material lost for something like this
Not lost you could always use those pieces to make another blade
