Damascus steel from shavings from under the band saw machine.

- I make a blade using container forge welding from metal shavings from under a band saw. The band saw blade turned out to be made of non-contrasting steel and it is hard to see when pickling, at the same time, steel shavings were present in the steel shavings of 15N20 steel, which formed a dotted pattern on the finished blade.

On my patreon page, I began to explain the processes and secrets of my work. Topics already covered:
1. Why do I add pepper to container Damascus steel.
2. What do I sprinkle? Flux and its composition.
3. How do I remove the container from the workpiece (container Damascus steel).
4. Why am I drilling a hole in a container.
5. Why do I sweep away the dross from the anvil with my hand.
6. Why do I first forge some blanks on a tree.
7. In what and why do I soak the blank before forging.
8. In which granules do I place the workpiece after forging.
9. What kind of white powder do I pour into the container.

That little happy face that came out the first time the canister is compressed made my day :)
I was looking for someone who noticed😂
Yeah , it appeared in 1:30
That happy face started looking more and more stressed as it got more and more compressed. It might have been like "Mr. Bill" going "Ohh Nooo!"
I didn't notice at first, but yes!
😂
Best blacksmithing channel by a huge margin. No annoying music or extended explanations. I thought adding the peppers was badass, but not as musty as flicking the slag away with your bare hand. Damn dude. Love your stuff, stay safe out there
And now you know about the Leidenfrost-Effect ☝😎
Exactly. I dont need a bunch of cheesy royalty free crappy music playing when i can hear the sound of metal being worked.
@@EasyMoneySG Amen!
why does he add the pepper and spices
@@SkorpioVenom
Because in his language the word 'sharp' does not only describe the sharpness of a blade but also the spicyness of food. It is the same here in germany.
So it is a little joke.
1:31 the happiest block of steel ever
Put the type of tea on the screen. I love that this channel is all about the grind that goes into somthing. You put artist in the artisan
Great work as usual. But that smiley face pattern that happened when you first put the canister under the press at 1:32 was so funny. Cheers and stay safe!
"Ok now, lets make another happy little knife over here..." ~ -Bob Ross- Dimitry

My kids were watching and loved the smiley face.
I saw that immediately lol
Lol was thinking the same

So many questions. First-time watching your videos. I can tell people love you and your work.
Every time I see your work Dmitry, I am beyond amazed. I have poor eyesight (considered legally blind) and even I can see the quality you put into every piece. I hope that one day such art will be within my price range.
I showed my dad your videos and he loved them. He got inspired to forge his first knife aged 70. Keep doing what you do bro!
👍👍
I've been watching your channel for a few years. Always impressed with your work. You're my inspiration for starting my own forging. Stay safe!
You, sir, are an international treasure. Thank you for your art and God bless you and yours.
I thought it was only me who saw that... a happy blade...
Не увидел. Сейчас пересмотрю
Who else saw the smiley face in the metal at 1:31
Same yeah
That is beautiful, not at all the pattern I was imagining. Thank you for the great video, I pray that you all are doing well and for your safety. God bless!
Another work of art! Appreciate you still making content! Also glad to hear you're still safe. Thank you for the video. Continue to stay safe my friend!
Это прекрасно. Даже в такое трудное время для всего мира, вы продолжаете создавать свои шедевры
So
The smiley face on the billet casing is priceless 😆
My friend I’ve seen many knives you have made but this is my favorite one!! I think this is an awesome pattern!! Great job as always brother! God bless you and your family and Ukraine!
Your work is mesmerizing!! You produce the most beautiful blades, I can only hope to own one of your works of art some day. Keep up the good work and peace be with you and your loved ones. Stay safe brother!
Dude you're a true artist. Craftsman is an understatement. You give me inspiration to start my own shop.
Each cup of tea he drinks is almost as different as the project he’s filming for us. I like seeing the different kinds of steeping he uses
Yes, does anyone know what tea that is?
@@greg0063 I was wondering the same thing.

One of your most beautiful blades ever, sir! The grain pattern in the steel is amazing!
The casual knocking off scale with a bare finger is cool
I saw him doing that and my first thought was WTF? No way I would do that! I like the fingers I have left!
Every time I hear someone ask why we’re still supporting Ukraine, I say the same thing. Because THAT is where Dimitry Shevchenko lives.
What a stupid question and even stupider answer..

Highlight of my day, thanks Dimitry. This was an exceptionally beautiful result, I love the finished product. Interesting tea too :) glad to see you still going strong and can't wait to see what comes next
This knife is just another reason why your videos are so bad ass.
One of the coolest patterns I’ve ever seen. Good job!
Have you ever done "braided" damascus, by "braiding" wire or thin steel bars of different compositions into a braid, then "braiding" *those* into a larger braid, then pressing them into an ingot? If not, I think it would make for a very beautiful pattern, as if the blade was woven out of metal rope. Just a thought!
Keep up the great work! Slava Ukraini!
I read a book once that described something similar to this, but with wrapping cables instead. The smiths would take the scrap and excess material and draw them into wire. When they had enough wire built up, they’d wrap the wire into different sizes of cables and assemble them into a sword shape. Maybe a couple of thicker cables for the center of the blade and smaller cables for where the edge will be (and small or medium cables to take up space between and around the center and edge cables). Then the smiths would forge weld all of the cables and strands together into a solid piece.
Admittedly it was a fictional book, so it may be entirely made up. 🤷♂️
@@kvg4790 It *sounds* very cool! I don't suppose you remember the name of the book? Always looking for new recommendations!
Your basically describing "cable damascus" shurap has several videos of this.
@@metalbeastrage Not exactly. If made with a french braid pattern or some other type of pattern it would vastly change the look of the lines. You think the iconic star wars buns from our lovely princess would look like cable Damascus?
You are out of your mind dood!
As a chainmaile maker and a jewelry maker trust me there would be quite the significant difference.
no twists required, no layering. Just braid it, braid it with other braids. Take that and put it in a canister with multiple sets of them and SQUISH.
Its a risky process doing it this way though. the chance of the welds not taking increases risk and potentially could mean a failure, as braided metal is not as closely or tightly tied as cable.
He made a rose pattern by selectively reweaving cable. It wasn't a braid though just selective twisting with various wire guages
You are by far the most amazing craftsman I’ve ever watched
I will continue to pray for you and your families health and safety
