Damascus steel from shavings from under the band saw machine.

  • I make a blade using container forge welding from metal shavings from under a band saw. The band saw blade turned out to be made of non-contrasting steel and it is hard to see when pickling, at the same time, steel shavings were present in the steel shavings of 15N20 steel, which formed a dotted pattern on the finished blade.

    1. Why do I add pepper to container Damascus steel.
    2. What do I sprinkle? Flux and its composition.
    3. How do I remove the container from the workpiece (container Damascus steel).
    4. Why am I drilling a hole in a container.
    5. Why do I sweep away the dross from the anvil with my hand.
    6. Why do I first forge some blanks on a tree.
    7. In what and why do I soak the blank before forging.
    8. In which granules do I place the workpiece after forging.
    9. What kind of white powder do I pour into the container.

Have you ever done "braided" damascus, by "braiding" wire or thin steel bars of different compositions into a braid, then "braiding" *those* into a larger braid, then pressing them into an ingot? If not, I think it would make for a very beautiful pattern, as if the blade was woven out of metal rope. Just a thought!
Keep up the great work! Slava Ukraini!

    • @kvg4790
      @kvg4790 Год назад +10

I read a book once that described something similar to this, but with wrapping cables instead. The smiths would take the scrap and excess material and draw them into wire. When they had enough wire built up, they’d wrap the wire into different sizes of cables and assemble them into a sword shape. Maybe a couple of thicker cables for the center of the blade and smaller cables for where the edge will be (and small or medium cables to take up space between and around the center and edge cables). Then the smiths would forge weld all of the cables and strands together into a solid piece.
Admittedly it was a fictional book, so it may be entirely made up. 🤷‍♂️

@@metalbeastrage Not exactly. If made with a french braid pattern or some other type of pattern it would vastly change the look of the lines. You think the iconic star wars buns from our lovely princess would look like cable Damascus?
You are out of your mind dood!
As a chainmaile maker and a jewelry maker trust me there would be quite the significant difference.
no twists required, no layering. Just braid it, braid it with other braids. Take that and put it in a canister with multiple sets of them and SQUISH.
Its a risky process doing it this way though. the chance of the welds not taking increases risk and potentially could mean a failure, as braided metal is not as closely or tightly tied as cable.

I'm happy with the new creation! I hope your new video means you are safe. I thought a lot about what could happen to Shurap in these terrible times. The video makes up for it. Nice job, but I'm more than happy to have you! Greetings from Hungary!
