This case is rock solid (like other Pelican cases). ruclips.net/user/postUgkx3jMFPw9QX_Iu4DNcjW-t9AZ4_iNhJzhE I paired it with the Master Lock 140T set of padlocks. The US Airways ticket agent that checked the case was impressed by how completely the latches were secured. The case has layers of removable foam cubes that can be easily adapted to the contents of the case and keep everything secure. After declaring its contents to the ticket agent, I was allowed to put this case in other checked luggage. Due to its size and black color, this helped insure that it wasn't misplaced by a baggage handler. TSA was (apparently) happy with the packaging as well. If you plan on flying with more than one of the main items, I would recommend buying a larger Pelican case and just transport the case as another piece of checked luggage.
I agree with your choice of the Fort Knox, provided they solved the paint flaking issue that gummed up the Simplex lock. Three others that are based upon the Fort Knox design are the V-Line Brute, the Amsec PS1210HD and the Stealth STL-PB (part of and identical to Amsec, except for its finish). As far as the pistol safes with a holster, FAS’s FAS1 (7 Guage steel) is the best by a long shot, IMO. They use the same Simplex locking mechanism, but also has a robust, hardened steel 10-pin key lock, while almost all gun safes use cheap Chinese locks that take seconds to defeat. FAS1’s key lock stops the Simplex mechanism from being opened when placed in the “Out Position”, even if the correct combination has been entered (this is great when not at home).

So what secure gun safes are also quick access? I feel like the entire point is that it’s just enough of a deterrent to stop a random smash and grab thief or child from getting to your gun, not that it will be secure against a determined thief with enough time to pick locks or the ability to haul it with them. They are sacrificing security for accessibility in an emergency situation.
The guy that owned the first electrical company I worked for said he just kept a loaded gun in the bed with him. He didn’t want someone to be able to see him reach for his nightstand if they came into his room armed. He said he moves a lot and is stomach sleeper. He wakes up every morning with it down by his junk. So there’s always that option.

I had a very similar safe to the Fort Knox in your video. It had the same type of Simplex lock. After six months the Simplex lock failed and I couldn't open the safe. Two locksmiths later (which is a statement to the security of the safe) I had to use an angle grinder to get my guns out of it. There is no key backup like an electronic safe has.
Interesting options that I have mostly seen before and rejected. To me, a beside gun safe must perform as he said, but also be absolutely silent. The "Ka-THUNK Thunk" of the SpeedVault is a huge no-no.
Vaultek safes are the best bedside safe's out there, I've had a VT20 and VT10 for about 5 years now. The VT20 fits my P07 with extended 17rd mag+Primary Machine comp and the wifes Ruger SR22 no problem. Like the fingerprint vault, but the again I would want my wife to access a firearm if needed. Then that feature would only be useful for one person only. Well I guess my wife can use the finder print and I use the code.👍
The fingerprint vault from Vaultek can store up to 20 unique fingerprints (useful to scan different areas and angles of your fingerprint so your more likely to get a positive ID on that finger)
