IMO, Savagegeese is the best! The honest and the cinematography is extremely special. The chemistry between Jack and Mark is also something very rare whether on YT or off.
As a Supra owner, what I find does not get talked about enough about the Supra is the presence and attention the car gets. It is mind blowing. Everyone wants to check it out, everyone goes wow a Supra and everyone thinks it’s cool. The car has an “it” factor that just cannot be matched. And that’s a part of owning and driving a sports car - that wow factor when you see it and the reaction others get when they see it. It’s amazing and it’s something that totally caught me by surprise when I first got the car. It’s an amazing car and for the money, I’d argue the best sports car you can buy.
People are interest in the martian looks of the car... Dont go thinking they think of it as some ferrari or something. Of course non car people will think a rare car they never seen is cool. And yeah, you could argue its the best sports car for its money but you'd be utterly wrong. Its just a shitty Z4 on steroids, lol. It stands no chance against something like the porsche 718, an M2 BMW or even the Mustang and Camaro V8 options. And if you want some real sports car experience, something like the Alpine A110 blows all of these fatasses out of the track.
@@Milkman69ner no one says except those people who are purposefully saying that to put you down. Don’t really care about those people. Plus it’s true and also a good thing. Can’t imagine how it being a BMW sports car is a bad. BMW makes the best sports cars.
@Milkman69ner My E90 M3 has been great. Despite it being old now, I still have people coming up to me to start a conversation. Although the saloon is rare in the UK. Plus, if Toyota did not collaborate with BMW then there wouldn't have been another Supra. Definitely a car I'll be buying in the next few years.
@USCtrojans26 So...better than Porsche and McLaren? I think not, but BMW does have a good reputation with its M cars.I have a 2024 45th Anniv. GR Supra, and look forward to driving it whenever I can.
With all the performance data and discussion, I am glad someone mentioned the Supra is "a quieter car" (time index 38:14). See, when you drive 6 hours, or more--road trip, it really does matter, cause you are not always "racing", you do want to talk to the person in the car with you, and even if driving alone, you may want to converse via blue tooth on the phone--or listen to music. So often, especially young people, don't offer one word about interior quietness and believe me, even if you are young, long road trips brings the issue up.
Even the little touch of doing the brake pads on the Z! Very smart and light touches to make sure we can get a sensible approach. Focus on the main components powertrain, suspension and chassis.
Really good idea to show the lap times between the GR86 and others. It’s going to be interesting to see how it compares to other sport cars you review.
The B58/ZF8 combo is pretty much the ultimate powertrain. The perfect blend of potential, sound, power and reliability. Props to Nissan for making a new Z. It’s a special car and I’m sure the cult like following behind the Z will make great things with it.
@@georgef5728 it is now. It had to pass all of Toyotas standards and they tweaked it themselves to make it more reliable. It's got forged internals, can hold plenty of power without fail. I've had no problems with my Supra since I've had it.
36:13 The MKIV Supra 2JZ-GTE did 305 whp ... STOCK With full 3+ inch exhaust from the turbo down with NO CATS, 3 inch high flow intake, Front mount intercooler with 3 inch cold and hot side piping, remove the mechanical fan = ~70 whp gain alone = ~370 whp ... Add a standalone and tune it for 400 whp ... Now you got a ~30 yr old car/engine with bolt ons and a tune keeping UP with the Z and this Transgender Supra in a straight line run.
I've tracked my Supra and my Gen 1 BRZ a fair bit and all the observations in the review are so accurate, the GR Supra is much twitchier than the BRZ and takes a lot of concentration and work to drive at the limit and keep in control where as the BRZ is so much easier to drive fast. I really look forward to seeing the new Z at the track and I hope I get a chance to drive one too!
I was just really surprised to see the 86 with half the HP and a little less weight put down around a 1% slower time. That's a crazy good value compared to the 400z
@@iSOBigD super competent car, the added torque across the power band makes the car surprisingly quick at any technical road course. A friend who had a modified 86 (all the bolt ons, suspension and aggressive camber, 245 RS4s) bought the new GR86 and put the same lap times down in the totally stock GR86 as they were doing in their modified and tuned gen 1.
Finally. I’ve been waiting so long for a comparison review between these two legends reborn to be in deep detail, in the way only Savage Geese could deliver. Considering the minds behind both Nissan and Toyota’s sports car development, its interesting to see how they played out almost exactly like the historical versions did. The 4th gen Supra and the Z32 still had these same contrasts. The Z was heavier, the Supra more power, but the Z more traditional sports car and the Supra more insulated. Akio Toyoda and Hiroshi Tamura’s team to this day created competitive awesome cars
@23:34 Funny, I personally I absolutely love that about the Supra. The short wheel base combined with the mountain of torque makes it feel very rear driven for lack of better words. I can powerslide all over town in it and that *to me* is one of the reason the Supra is such a fun street car. The razor sharp steering, great exhaust note, snappy trans, comfy seats and everything else are just cherry on the cake.
I've been trying to understand which car I would prefer since I don't mind modern stuff due to some of it being surprisingly amazing while I also enjoy older because I learned to drive and still prefer manual transmission, despite also loving how snappy and quick some of these newer automatics have gotten... so I guess I'll just have to quit while I am ahead and go find me like a $80K more expensive mercedes or just outright say screw it and go for even more than that... after all, can't get enough... then I also need to get about $100K to add mods and another $50K+ to fuel and maintain it, and all of that in cash so I don't have to care about any depreciation, then build it at a legendary tune shop, then I will be set for a while... now first I just gotta make that cash real quick and I wont have to choose between the Z or Supra since I'll just find a clear winner in an entirely superior price bracket lmao... why do they make it so hard to choose... could save me so much money... Edit: I found what I want, I think... The new Porsche 911 GT3 Wish me luck making that dough, it seems I will certainly need some...
May there be more subs and therefore more money for SG, these guys should be earning hundreds of thousands a year for what they're doing. Thank you SG. Best auto channel on YT by far.
You guys at SG (including all the behind the scenes folks we don’t know about) are the absolute BEST in the business of car education! Toe to toe with Hagerty and Jason! Love love love your work, I was a service writer for 18 years as a first career. Started in 1997 when the first ITRs came to Acura. Man those were the days! Keep up the great work!
No hate to those like Hagerty, but honestly I'd really with people would stop comparing them to SG. Jason is all theatre and show which I know people like, but SG is pure driver impression and analysis. Everytime I watch a Hagerty video, I feel like he's trying so hard to overemphasize everything that it feels unnatural.
@@yaboiyosef7640 My favorite series of Jason's is definitely Revelations. Icons is for drama, if you like an action movie sort of video. They're both for entertainment for sure, but it's nice he does both approaches.

I really dig the blue chew interior. I’d put a nice katana hilt decal at the end of each blade on either side of the car. Impatiently awaiting the next video. Keep it up!
Thank you for putting this comparison together. Like myself, I'm sure there are some folks out there debating which of these to waste their money on. I like the longer format videos you guys produce. Keep up the great high quality content gents!!!
Another great video that highlights the true differences between the two cars. I didn’t know about the fueling issues with the new Z, that is a pretty big issue for me. I like to live my life one quarter of a gas tank at a time…
PrideAuto makes a pick up tube in tank for the VR30 that basically eliminates this fuel issue. I have it on my Q60. Super easy to install and I did a upgraded low pressure fuel pump too.
The Z has a "saddle bag" gas tank. This is only an issue on long sweeping right-turns at high speeds. I've never noticed it on the road, even flying dangerously through mountain passes such as Sitgreaves Pass in Arizona on Old US 66. Z1 Motorsports sells a kit for $550 that is supposed to cure the issue.
I'm still drawn to BRZ/86 (despite the silicone thing). Sure, knife in a gun fight, but I don't plan on getting into any fights. Plus I have a use for the back seats. 🏁
Park it on empty lot and see how many people come by drive by to check it out it’s insane! Literally can’t park anywhere lol 😂 attention insane feels like u in mclaren or Ferrari
I was all in on the Supra - until I sat in it and felt so claustrophobic... Had to go the gr86 which although smaller feels more spacious (and honestly, it drives amazingly).
@@MKu64 indeed Supra is 2 door no back seats sports cars it’s made for not so tall or big people and it’s hard to see out of it unless u short but gr86 is great sports car hope it’s manual auto is waste of money
I've been waiting since my Z January pre order in Canada. It's a sad wait but I'm gonna stick it through. Thanks for helping tide us over in the meantime! Your efforts are appreciated 😀
True, but it isn't hard to look better than the Supra. I thought I'd get used to its styling, but it looks as ugly as the first time I saw it. The Z is handsome, but could have been better. The metal swooshes up over the roof and down the back look very generic to me. The overall shape is classic and works great, and the more open, practical interior would make this a much nicer daily.
The GR86 is definitely a steal for that money, it actually has 245 crank hp, combine that with 1250kg its just perfect, definitely recommend it for people that want to improve their driving skills, fun and fast enough
I'd have to say that of you live in a part of the country with little rain, the a suspension-modified Mazda MX5 is the way to go. Driving on country back roads with the top down is an experience that is irreplaceable with a non-convertible car. So for that $30k range, the MX5 is my pick. Throw in a GR Supra and you have the perfect duo.
Having The same tires was such a nice detail to be added! Thanks to that the results are more accurate with a fair comparison! Really love this video since I’m in the market and these three cars are the ones on my list! Thank you 🙏

And, despite being a BMW owner and fan, I agree with Mark on this one and would rather have the Z for all the same reasons he mentioned. You've threaded the needle between education and entertainment and in turn made the perfect content. Keep it up! P.s. I'd love to buy a shirt when they are back in stock
Really loved this video. It's only a matter of time before Nissan does a new Z Nismo and I think that's when the car will really come into its own for true sports/track car use.
I agree !! That’s what I am waiting on to get is the Nismo Z. I feel , and believe that the Nismo will be a true competitor with the Supra/bmw GR. I think it will out run the Supra in straight line and on the track, but we shall see.
A tuned Z would beat a tuned supra easily, you can reach 500hp with the stock engine + bolt ons. Look at this q60 for example, it keeps up with the supra and it’s heavier than the Z but same engine. ruclips.net/user/shortsH9nU7F3eldw?feature=share
Ive been saying this from day 1 of the supra vs z video, particularly the b58 vs vr30 debate that the b58 is not only more potent, it can hold well up to 700+ crank hp with stock internals RELIABLY, where as the vr30 after 600 crank becomes a gamble as quoted by AMS themselves in this video now dont tell me that this particular tuner is a bmw fan boy or something since its the typical nissan peasant comeback, but im sure even now some nissan peasant will still comment how they know a guy who knows another guy whose cousin's wife's bf has a q 60 with 700 whp just on dp and tune lol.
I feel ya and you maybe correct on how much more bhp the b58 can hold more than the z, However at the age I am now I doubt that I’ll be testing theory… So whatever it comes with ( or don’t) then it is what it is… I’ll just appreciate it for what it is.
Are you ok, bro? “Nissan peasant”? Maybe gear down a tad, ace. Regardless, how much HP is your bmw putting down? How is it on track? Any reliability issues with big HP?
@@garagers6667 do you have any issues with your comprehension skills? in this same video didnt the all mighty nissan tuner ams themselves say that the b58 with stock internals hold more whp reliably? RELIABLY? they were speaking well in layman's terms that too in English. like i said typical nissan peasants and their bmw hate. lol
@@nathantaylor4043 lmfao what part of the video where AMS themselves said vr30 cant go more than 600 crank reliably did u not get? sure it can be beefed up but it will end up a lot of $$$
I began shopping this segment when the new Z was announced last year. It led me to buying a 22 Supra 3.0 premium with the zF8. I’ve never looked back. This, in spite of being a driving purist that generally prefers manual driving. For those that can get over the iconic Supra nameplate being interpreted by BMW, there’s a great sports car experience waiting in the 5th gen Supra. At Sebring and Daytona driving events, the Supra hangs with mid-trim v8’s all day. It’s legit fast on the track right out of the box. Whereas some drivers dislike some of its handling characteristics, I actually LOVE that the car “rotates” at 9/10ths. I feel like I made the right choice for myself. Great comparison video!
I respect both of your opinions, but my automotive mindset is more in line with Marks philosophy of what a good car/sports car is. I’d take the Z 8/10 times if I had the choice. There’s something intangible about it that’s captivating. I understand statistically, it’s not as good as the Supra, and I can accept that. But, the Z is harmonizing the missed visceral feel of the golden aged sports cars with what youd expect in a modern GT car. To me, that’s a unique offering in an era that emphasizes electronics, isolation, and specifications. Excellent video and I hope you guys never stop making these. Cheers!
you need to drive both to make up your mind. making a decisions around other peoples opinions is a trap. I would guess most would enjoy the supra more, mark seems to put a lot emphasis on subtle differences
When I was doing HPDE in my 370z the fuel starve was so bad that I ended up putting a second pump in the tank to function as a pickup on the other side. It solved all of my fueling issues. Although I've heard that time attack level drivers still had issues even with setups like this. It's sad to hear Nissan didn't fix these issues but addressed the oil cooling and clutch slave cylinder issues from the base Z34 platform.
Yep it’s a huge letdown and really unacceptable their not hard issues to resolve really, they should’ve called their Renault Sport/Alpine partners to resolve these issues, with their input you would’ve had a proper track and street machine!
i understood why ppl complained about Supra BMW but Toyota gave you a monster that you could tune for very cheap and that's why these cars are completely different and not on the same playing field and im a big fan of the cockpit feel and ive driven both these cars hard and i disagree with Mark Toyota tuned the car to be a go cart with a monster tuneable engine
I'm a person who buys cars n sell them here in Dubai, I used to deal in Z's in particular, I used to love them for I don't know what reason, that old chassis wasn't good, you feel its way too heavier at the front, very tight on space and it was one of the worse if not THE worst when it comes to fuel consumption as these would be your daily cars! only good points were that most of its serviceable parts were affordable. Oh and one major issue with the previous gen is the overheating issue that was there since the year 2009 and till date.. nissan never resolved that simple issue and kept on selling the same crap to people all around the world. That alone was very frustrating that they're not even bothered fixing that flaw for over 10 years!! and by the looks of this new gen, you can tell its the exact same car with new engine and dashboard, they didn't even bother to redesign the door panels or even change the seats a bit, they just changed the color of the materials used... when u sit on that old seat and lean ur head back on the headrest the metalic poles that extends from the rests inside the backrest would push back against u and u'd feel it hitting ur back... that made the seat feel so cheap and I bet you that its still there with that new Z seat

what about the supra being totally artificial and the z actually being interactive... still think the supra is better and incredible for the price but those are exciting things about the z
yeah the sad thing is the sup came out years ago and is still more advanced. Sup engine has way more potential than the Z much like the mkiv vs the z32. Is the sup the worthy successor to the mkiv ? No, but the Z is a whole new level of depravity. This is coming from a former z owner. I would never buy this new Z only the C8 Corvette which doesn't cost much more than the Sup.
Funny to hear about the fuel cut on the Z, sounds very similar to my 04 STi. I'll get fuel cut on track days whenever I have 3/4 or less (especially during hard right turns) It's super frustrating...Either way, based on this video the Z is the right car for me.
Now that the Supra comes with a manual, I hate to say it but I'm going Supra all day purely because of how much lighter it is than the Z. The Nissan is just too chonk for my liking.
HAHA So funny! Maybe, I have been watching too many Supra reviews and all the "blah, blah it's a BMW, jk, I mean, Toyota" jokes are feeling a little cringe lol. It's every channel. I want a Supra SO bad! I’m 5’8 and relatively small/slender guy and I had no issues getting in and out of the Supra during a test drive. @@K03sport YES. They aren't even in the top 100 for automotive (that counts views oe subs), kinda complete BS. Should be at least in the top 25.
That's why we're here
IMO, Savagegeese is the best! The honest and the cinematography is extremely special. The chemistry between Jack and Mark is also something very rare whether on YT or off.
Holy smokes guys. Epic, epic video. I’m so glad someone out good tires on
the Z. Those stock Bridgestones are trash.
I had Bridestones in my nismo years ago, yes those are trash 🗑
I heard with upgraded tires it beats the Supra. Now I'm confused.
Up until they say it’s just a BMW.
Which is ultimately true
As a previous owner of a 1st-gen Z, I agree with Mark concerning the old-school driver involvement feel.
Really well done! I appreciate bringing in a pro driver and using the same tire so the comparison wasn’t just about tires. Thanks for being thorough!
Even the little touch of doing the brake pads on the Z! Very smart and light touches to make sure we can get a sensible approach. Focus on the main components powertrain, suspension and chassis.
So much for it just being "tires".
Really good idea to show the lap times between the GR86 and others. It’s going to be interesting to see how it compares to other sport cars you review.
Also the Nissan Armada commercial at the end - that was the best part of the video.
The B58/ZF8 combo is pretty much the ultimate powertrain. The perfect blend of potential, sound, power and reliability.
Props to Nissan for making a new Z. It’s a special car and I’m sure the cult like following behind the Z will make great things with it.
Pretty sure there's more of a cult following for the supra than there is for the Z but okay lol
Can't wait for the manual Supra
Is it reliable? Always wondered what’s up with BMW reliability.
@@georgef5728 it is now. It had to pass all of Toyotas standards and they tweaked it themselves to make it more reliable. It's got forged internals, can hold plenty of power without fail. I've had no problems with my Supra since I've had it.
@@georgef5728 b58 in general is one of BMW’s most reliable engines to date, but the one in the Supra was quality tested a bit more.

The MKIV Supra 2JZ-GTE did 305 whp ... STOCK
With full 3+ inch exhaust from the turbo down with NO CATS, 3 inch high flow intake, Front mount intercooler with 3 inch cold and hot side piping, remove the mechanical fan = ~70 whp gain alone = ~370 whp ...
Duh, you got twice the power and torque. Of course it's twitchier
@@dannyd7714 it's also a shorter wheelbase.
I was just really surprised to see the 86 with half the HP and a little less weight put down around a 1% slower time. That's a crazy good value compared to the 400z
@@dannyd7714 it’s mostly about the much shorter wheelbase not the power.
Agreed. It’s so much fun on the streets, endless smiles man 🔥
I've been trying to understand which car I would prefer since I don't mind modern stuff due to some of it being surprisingly amazing while I also enjoy older because I learned to drive and still prefer manual transmission, despite also loving how snappy and quick some of these newer automatics have gotten... so I guess I'll just have to quit while I am ahead and go find me like a $80K more expensive mercedes or just outright say screw it and go for even more than that... after all, can't get enough... then I also need to get about $100K to add mods and another $50K+ to fuel and maintain it, and all of that in cash so I don't have to care about any depreciation, then build it at a legendary tune shop, then I will be set for a while... now first I just gotta make that cash real quick and I wont have to choose between the Z or Supra since I'll just find a clear winner in an entirely superior price bracket lmao... why do they make it so hard to choose... could save me so much money...
Edit: I found what I want, I think... The new Porsche 911 GT3
Wish me luck making that dough, it seems I will certainly need some...
A video is never too long if it has useful, well constructed information throughout. This did. Nice job.
And the amazing part is they are doing it with probably 1/10 the resources that Cammisa gets with Hagerty
@@yaboiyosef7640 My favorite series of Jason's is definitely Revelations. Icons is for drama, if you like an action movie sort of video. They're both for entertainment for sure, but it's nice he does both approaches.

Giga premium boys. I appreciate the detailed explanations of how each car feels paired with the visceral visuals and sounds. It massages the imagination in such a way that almost makes you feel like you are driving the car. I love both of them. Being a gentleman of a certain age I’d go with the Nissan for sure.
The CrossCabriolet background is the best part of the video. Actually the whole video is the best part of the video. Great work!
This review was incredible!!!!! THE ENDING 😂😂😂. Great Job guys!!!
Another great video that highlights the true differences between the two cars. I didn’t know about the fueling issues with the new Z, that is a pretty big issue for me. I like to live my life one quarter of a gas tank at a time…
Only an issue if you're cornering super hard. 370z had the same gas tank and I just never let it get below 1/4
I feel bad for your fuel pumps
Right? All that supposed care put into the Z and they left a well known design issue. That's modern nissan for you I guess
Y’all’s comparison here is unparalleled. Absolutely great work and love the insane effort put into this!
I'm still drawn to BRZ/86 (despite the silicone thing). Sure, knife in a gun fight, but I don't plan on getting into any fights. Plus I have a use for the back seats. 🏁
The ending was out of control... you guys are the best channel out there!

Guys your videos are so in depth. There's no other channel like this. This channel has really grown on me. Keep doing what you do!
Saving up for the Z and when the time comes to buy. Hopefully, the Nismo will be available. Love all of them though.
It’s so wild when a new video from a RUclips channel can make you feel giddy like a new episode of your favorite show just dropped.
I actually prefer the looks of the GR86 but If I could have my choice of the three I'd take the Z
How this channel isn't at a million subs yet is beyond me. Amazing quality as always, what a pleasure to watch. Thank you!
@@davepaturno4290 I personally am not a fan of convertibles but definitely a good choice, can’t go wrong with either one of them

I’m waiting on the nismo before I buy the z.

Great comparison video!
b58 is a monster of an engine. Id pick it just for that. Absolutely insane power potential.
If only it didn't feel so claustrophobic to sit in.. I was so much more comfortable in the Z / GR86
@Lee Yang I don't know - I sat in it for 2 minutes before I realised I didn't enjoy it. I need to enjoy it to kick ass 😅
Cheers!
Driving a Plaid made this crystal clear to me. There's so much more to a good fun driving car than power / speed.
you need to drive both to make up your mind. making a decisions around other peoples opinions is a trap. I would guess most would enjoy the supra more, mark seems to put a lot emphasis on subtle differences
Love how much fun you guys are having in the driving impressions. D-mode - what’s that stand for? 😂
Looks like you guys went all out on this one. Can't wait to see reviews for the manual version of both cars.
Outstanding work 👏. Thank you for bringing these awesome videos.
It’s the supra for me. The fact that the Z is still on an ancient chassis and is slower in every way is a complete deterrent
That alone was very frustrating that they're not even bothered fixing that flaw for over 10 years!! and by the looks of this new gen, you can tell its the exact same car with new engine and dashboard, they didn't even bother to redesign the door panels or even change the seats a bit, they just changed the color of the materials used... when u sit on that old seat and lean ur head back on the headrest the metalic poles that extends from the rests inside the backrest would push back against u and u'd feel it hitting ur back... that made the seat feel so cheap and I bet you that its still there with that new Z seat
the platform being old doesnt mean the chasis is old you numbnuts... Its slower cause its cheaper on every regard.

No, but the Z is a whole new level of depravity. This is coming from a former z owner. I would never buy this new Z only the C8 Corvette which doesn't cost much more than the Sup.
