Even as a self-proclaimed Nissan hater, seeing the careful consideration that went into this Z is something that brings me tremendous joy. The world we knew is sunsetting, that is unavoidable. The next generation of driving may be awful, or it may just be wonderful in its own way, only time will tell. But for those of us who have been raised on the feeling of driving a well set up, connected sports car, one where every one of the senses is put to use to precisely move through space, the new Z is a triumph, despite its flaws. A massive congratulations to the engineers and designers that pushed to bring this car to market, especially at a tough time like this at Nissan. Here's to another few decades of modified Z's making trumpet sounds down the street at 2am.
Problem is, it is ultimately from a brand that never recovered from the GFC, and is owned by Renault group - which means no matter how good the car is, you have to deal with some of the worst after sales support in the world if you buy one.
I also am glad this came around because I feel like it was partially the reason for the Supra getting a manuel. They don't want to lose all those customers to the z family lols
Nissan sure is flawed now, but they’ve made more affordable drivers cars in their history than just about anyone, even if you think Honda’s or Toyota’s are better.
We will be on live chat during premiere. This video was created to, tell the design story, engineering changes and try to re-define the launch videos of new cars. This was the combination of well over 3 weeks worth of work to make this video. We continue to hope manufacturers like Nissan find the value in small private outlets like us to out work the corporate media giants.
I know that you will deliver a better product than the media giants. They don't care about quality. They don't care about every detail that goes into the development, engineering, and manufacturing of these works of art. They only care about being first. You focus on the details within the art, that the car manufacturers have made.
The cinematography. The interviews. The technical depth. The history. The editing. Another piece of peak automotive journalism. Well done SG team. Amazing job.
I was blown by what I've watched in the past 40 minutes. Still having a hard time believing that I was on RUclips. I would want to add the two presenters themselves into your list too. I feel like they've grown very accustomed to one another over the years and there's something about the dynamics between the duo that made the presentation entertaining in its own unique way.
Mark & co.: Thank you for the sacrifices you made to bring us a true piece of automotive journalism. This video will stand the rest of time. People will watch this 10 years from now.
Had to give a thumbs up the second I saw the interview in the intro. Bar none, BEST coverage of the Z, the cinematography, the music, the stories, the emotions; absolutely hit it out of the park with this one. Can't believe a car review could bring tears to my eyes, absolutely beautiful coverage of the new Z, cheers.
@@savagegeese "... easier to stomach." This is work you can be proud of; your consistent message regarding the loss of this sort of vehicle is making me think and I expect I'm not the only one.
This video is not well rounded. Its a promo ad for Nissan. Its an insult to call this anything but a sponsored promo ad. This is so against what Savagegeese was as a reviewer. I cannot take what they say serious anymore as they can be bought by the manufactures.
For realz. 10 years ago, they needed one of the biggest broadcasting companies to produce content like this. This channel is just missing that third troll to make the trifecta of the Three Stooges. Subscribe to this channel if you haven't because 572K is a fucking joke for content and production value this good.
I don't think I've ever seen such a honest, down to earth, and relaxed car designer interview before. Usually it's full of marketing term bs and art college terms being thrown around by some designer refusing to get off his high horsy
Gents, this video feels like a level up for you. The previous videos have built to this, but something about this one feels like it's broken through to a new level. Well done, and thank you.
Some cars have a soul. Mark even commented on it. The old guard is right. As a 50 year old that has a 350Z and is still making it better year after year there's a lot to be said for the feeling a car provides. Nissan has provided more of everything that matters with this one. This video was awesome.
Holy hell what an insane production quality, thank you so much for making my days better with your videos, especially this one. By far the best coverage of this car, and I doubt it'll be surpassed until this thing is a classic featured in a documentary.
You guys crushed it on this video! The cinematography, the details and interviews were top notch. This is the pinnacle of the channel so far, and can’t wait to see what comes next.
I love that this guy from Nissan is talking about the dissatisfaction about the supra not having a manual transmission. People who want sports cars generally prefer manuals. I'm glad someone is listening
Loved the interview with the designers/engineers and how you tied back into it at the end, mentioning how they’ve experienced the definition of “sports car” changing over time. It’s a fantastic point to make, and gives your film an emotional component that all the other reviews lack. The new Z seems like it will be a legend and I can’t wait to see more content on this.
The definition of “sports car” doesn’t change however. People only pervert the concept, and twist it around ideas that don’t fit that definition, just so they can say “sports car”. Today’s Z is really just a sports coupe - one of many on the market, which dilutes the car greatly. It’s odd how many people think this car is somehow groundbreaking.
@Mr. Butterworth I appreciate the correction. The definition has not changed, but what people are willing to live with has. I am happy to see another Japanese, rear wheel drive coupe (with a stick) on the market, even if it is diluted. I think the hype around this car is partly due to the Japanese coupe renaissance we're experiencing, and partly because it came from Nissan. It's one of their more exciting products in recent memory.
HUGE PROPS to NISSAN for not killing off the Z and continuing the legacy. This new Z has so much history behind it. I mean just look at it. It has all generations mixed in to a new modern package. Has a manual transmission and a gas powered engine. Get them while you can. This car is a classic in the making👍😎
Definitely not a classic, it’s incredibly boring in its lines and oddly convoluted in its details. It’s basically yet another dull sports coupe, despite its numbers. Too much content, oversized on the outside, cramped on the inside. Odd how the designers feel they’ve created something beautiful.
@@mr.butterworth They never said it was perfect rather almost perfect. These type of cars are being replaced by boring and very ugly electric vehicles. If your not a fan of the Z and it's history i can understand your point other than that? Nothing to complain about.
@@theeppychronicles you need to watch more videos on this car. A concerning point is the movement of the manual Z stick shift during acceleration. That was a major problem of my 370z Nismo. I had to redo all the rear diff and subframe bushings a long with a brace and the noise from the rear was loud.
This video was absolutely breathtaking. You have some of the greatest cinematography I have ever seen. Mark and Jack, the work you do to not only showcase these vehicles but paint them in an honest light for the everyday individual is so amazing. Being 27 and with certain current financial responsibilities, seeing your videos give me hope to one day be able to buy a true affordable drivers car. Right now the goal is the new 86/brz 😎. Just wanted to say thank you so much for everything you do and wish you both the best!
I just don't understand how Doug Demuro gets so much more views than this channel. These guys put so much effort into every videos they make instead of just talking about quirks and features. The cinematography is miles ahead of every other car reviewers on youtube
Thank you Mark and Jack for the incredible work you put out into the automotive universe. Your short films (Z, GT3, Lexus V8s/LFA, etc) will be a reference point for generations of enthusiasts
What an honor. A better group of guys couldn't have been selected to introduce the Z to North America. It's stupid, but I really teared up. This car, it is a family member for me. First car was a 350z. Dad, when he left, he had a 93 TT. It's going to be fun seeing where this is taken by the community.
As someone who has no strong feelings towards the Z one way or the other, I definitely felt some emotion when they first take the new Z on the track and then pan to the previous Gen Z behind it. Kind of a passing of the torch.
Once again, a top notch review by the SG team. The level of detail provided in areas where most content creators will gloss over is very impressive. This video taught me a lot about what has gone into the new Z and I have a greater appreciation for the car now. Thank you for all of your efforts - they are very appreciated.
THE BEST coverage/story telling of this new car in all the internets! You guys rock! No other youtuber or journalist or whoever covered this car this well. The effort you guys go into to set up the interviews and get the stories is well worth it. You may not be the first to release a video (something the others strive for) but you are the only channel that counts! Thank you!
Gentlemen, this is absolutely fantastic. Thank you for putting in all this effort and skill to tell these amazing stories. This video was another masterclass.
This is no longer just a car RUclips channel, this is art at display Mark, congratulations and well done. Beautiful, and you give us this for free, you should produce for Top Gear, then they actually might recover what they lost after the departure of their three stars. Very impressed by this video...

@@jackholmes8105 Jack, I remember when you first started on Savagegeese's channel. The growth since then is as mind-boggling as the fact that that the turbos can spin as much as 3,750 revolutions per second!
I didn't want a Z before this video. After seeing the team talk about the work that they've done to it though, and hearing about how much better it is than the 370... Damn I want one so baddd. This was an incredible video by the way! Your longer segments are always interesting to watch. I love hearing from the development teams and seeing how passionate they are, it really makes cars come alive.
Ok. I have to say something after watching this. You two work so well together, you two produce such good content that I can only hope you get bigger and achieve the success you want and deserve. This is without a doubt the absolute best video review of this car on all of RUclips. Thank you. Please never stop making these videos. You guys are the "goats" of youtube car reviews. Iv watched alot of reviews. Unlike alot of those videos, your videos have soul. Their the most informative and easy to digest videos I'v seen. Gen X , lover of cars, owner of a 1990's twin turbo 300ZX here. I watched Nissan lose their way and then seeing them return to this, with everything going on means there is a core of hope amongst the soulless, CVT, calculator worshiping company that once made the 240SX, 300ZX , Skyline and others. From a journalistic standpoint I am not sure what other outlets do to compare to the level of enthusiasm, honesty, chemistry and quality of the reviews on savagegeese. I am loving seeing your access and inclusion from the industry grow . It is truly a triumph. My sincerest congratulations to both of you.
A lot of people talk about your cinematography (rightfully so) and production quality (rightfully), but man, the way you presented this: the pacing, the story, the build ups.....It's just A+ all around. I never paid any attention to this car before, and now I want to drive one.
Holy crap this looks like a $10k/minute documentary. I'm not sure how you produce such good quality with such regularity and consistent improvement. It would be interesting to see a behind the scenes... a "making of" some of this stuff so we can see just how you pull this off.
"Welcome to Jurassic Mark" as the orchestra music plays softly on a mid range car audio system that is slightly bass heavy according to the sound engineer.
It annoys me when people complain that it’s on the same platform as the 370z. Just be happy we are even getting this car! It doesn’t have to be new all the time, you can improve the old stuff. As always fantastic video guys, you deserve so much more recognition.
All those yrs tinkering around with cars have now given you these insights not many can express as well as you guys in these videos. Video content is superb as well. Thanks for putting this together.
What a joy that must have been to drive. Hats off to Nissan for having the guts to do this. And the beauty of this video. Absolutely superb piece of work, both car and the review.
Usually "Driving Impressions" is my favorite part of your reviews, but telling the story and cinematography take the cake here. And a lesson in double wishbone suspension!
I’m thrilled you gentlemen were the first journalists to drive the Z in the country. You all deserve this. The number one car journalism channel on RUclips. The number one car review media period. Couldn’t be happier.
What an amazing review. Your videos always go above and beyond when it comes to reviewing cars and this is no exception. I've been a fan of Z cars since I was a kid. I currently own a 350z and this may be the video that pushes me to get the new one.
Thank you Nissan for still making a relatively affordable, rear wheel drive sports car with an internal combustion engine and manual transmission. That music at 27:12 made me sad, it reminded me how the days for cars like this are numbered. And they'll be gone within the next 10 years, so you gotta live in the present and enjoy each shift. Bravo guys, what a video!
This video is off the chain….This is the best video you have ever produced. This was giving me chills throughout and I’m not even a Nissan fan. This video should win an award!!!
I love this so much. Hearing the designers talk so candidly about their triumphs and failures is really wonderful. Unlike everything else you get from most of these interviews from other manufactures that feel very staged and scripted, this feels so natural and genuine. This further makes me realize just how incredible this channel is. You all truly are revolutionizing the automotive journalism space with videos like these. Incredible job, guys.
Man what a fantastic video, great work. I have owned a 240z, 280z, 300z, 300 turbo, 2x 300 twin turbos then life and kids took over. This car might be my next Z. What a great history and tribute video this was, sure made me smile.
I have never commented on a video but I can’t let this pass. What an amazing and professional production. I couldn’t afford a 240Z when they came out, and did an early preorder of the Z. Your review has me salivating! One of your final comments made me question - can you name an expensive sports car that is less fun to drive?
@@mikewaite3746 Assuming he is in Canada (there were no pre orders in US), no. Only 2 people have gotten their Z in Canada yet. I'm also waiting for my pre order. Good chance it arrives in the next month or two
This review was exactly what everyone needed to hear/see. Yes it's the old chassis, but that's okay. It's a driver's car, something that is dying. Way to go Nissan & SavageGeese.
Props to the superb production quality on the video. You guys never cease to amaze. Thank you deeply for your hard work from the planning/execution/editing. Hope the opportunity to experience this car comes my way at some point!
THIS. This video is what other car channels should be striving for their quality. The cinematography, the interviews, the specs, the discussion of what this car is striving for are all so perfectly done. You gents never disappoints, and I'm embarassed to say that I'm getting emotional watching this video, knowing this car might be the last of its kind to grace the car culture.
By far my favorite RUclips car channel! You continue to raise the bar with cinematography, sound, and visuals. I love how you breakdown the history and show the passion for what car manufacturers still do for us diehards. I look forward to more videos like this. You guys do the best job detailing the mechanical aspects of the cars you review. I appreciate the good, the bad, and the ugly perspectives. Plus I dig the sense of humor and entertainment you provide along the way. You should think about “on the road series” of some private owner reviews where you get to drive and share the passion of your viewers as well. By far you would to the best job in showcasing not only cars provided to you by manufacturers but also car enthusiasts and collectors. Great job! Look forward to the next one.
Bravo! This has to be the very best review I’ve watched for the RZ34! Thank you for answering all of our burning questions along with having Top Gear UK like production quality! I believe the new Z will be the ‘must have’ car for enthusiasts & despite having a somewhat large price tag these things will fly outta dealerships. I personally adore my lighter weight vehicles (my SBY NA6 for example) but engineering has gone a very long way & Nissan was pretty good at masking the R35’s weight all things considered. I’ve been a huge Z fan since being introduced to Wangan Midnight back in 2005 but my love for the original S30 took off when I had to push a green one that stalled in front of a Seafood City in Van Nuys CA. Despite not having luck with purchasing an original S30 Z I believe in a few years I can at least get my hands on the new RZ34. I don’t usually donate due to ‘adulting’ but y’all deserve another round of applause! Again, thank you for creating this video & I would adore to see more videos like this & like the Miata series you did a little while ago!
I loved the conclusion. So many have confused the definition of a sports car with 60 and 1/4 mile times, when that couldn't be further from the truth. Where do you go with sports cars when EVs can decimate everything, or a 2L Accord can gap most "sporty" cars? You have to lean into what made sports cars great, which is the connection and the experience. It's taking it down a country road on a Sunday afternoon and just enjoying the drive, not worrying about how fast you get from red light to red light on a strip. It's not always about pure speed and I hate that we've gotten so far away from that.
@@pleasedontwatchthese9593 Well, Miele vacuums offer everything a Dyson does with better performance, why doesn't everyone just by Miele vacuums? Just because something is technically better doesn't make it more desirable. Low to mid-range EVs like the model 3 or the base Mustang offer great straight line speed and good range, but sacrifice handling dynamics and performance. If you want to have brakes big enough that they don't overheat and fade after a couple hard stops or suspension that doesn't body roll over 5 degrees in a sharp corner, than you're gonna have to shell out for the performance variants, which are quite expensive. Not to mention, I could take this Z, or any similar sports car, to a track day and run it off and on all day long. If I took a Tesla I'd get about an hour of performance driving before it was both too hot and too discharged. If I took an Accord the brakes would be toast and I would probably be nauseous from the angular momentum of the body roll. Anything can become a performance vehicle, but what makes a car sporty and enjoyable isn't just power and speed. My most enjoyable car to drive over the last 25 years was a 91 240sx that had an LSD-swapped rear diff. Even after tuning it only made like 175Whp, but I could track that thing all day and never be dissatisfied. The Model 3 I tracked at an event in Atlanta on the other hand was fun for the first 10 minutes and then quickly became exhausting and disappointing when the battery started getting hot so it pulled power and the brakes became soggy sponges. It's all just perception, but for me, enjoyment in driving comes from the entire experience, not just the butterflies from acceleration.
People are obsessed with straight line speed and not as much taking corners as fast as possible. This mentality might change as F1 gains viewership in the states.
That's why I still have my AP2 S2K. Not the fastest but the best driving experience when your in a back road going through the gear with the top down. In my opinion on the last pure driver's car Honda made.
As a car guy who sold Nissan's for a living in the 90s (retired now) as well as owned several ,I'd like to share a few observations. As much as I loved the 90s 300ZX, which is my favorite , yet detested the 350 Z , I am impressed with the way the new one came out . Nissan took some chances still offering a manual , and some edgy styling details. IF Dealers don't rip off buyers with big markups , and IF Nissan can get production out smoothly with minimal supply chain hold-ups , this may be a breakout hit similar to the original Z's of the 70s . People are tired of lame ass , quirky , overpriced sports cars that don't handle all that well and are overly complicated! Good review , thanks.
Mark and Jack killed it once again. Bringing the story of the new Z to life in a beautiful way. I hope this car sells big time to show manufacturers that people still want soul in their sports cars.
Man, the nissan documentaries and the lexus lfa doc have been SO DAMN GOOD. The ammount of effort and passion you put into these videos never goes unnoticed, from the camera work to the sound editing. Talking to the engineers also makes me happy as an engineer myself. Youre a legend
As a 370Z owner, I am really glad to hear all the improvements they made over that model. Everything you mentioned rang true, *especially* poor torque at low revs. I still feel it's a bit overpriced but perhaps I will get a used one in a few years. If I ever have the money one day to have one of these as a track toy, well...
Agreed on the price. They keep talking about the price point as if it's a budget option, but it ain't. I spent half as much on a very lightly used 124 Spider. $40k base is not inexpensive.
@@AlvinBrinson in Australia it's $80k for what I assume is the top trim (we only get one). That's 56kUSD. The 370 was $57k but they were going for 50 last year. The most expensive Miata is about 57 while the cheapest is 40...
It is more expensive than the 370, but you’re getting more. 6 N/A vs 6TT, better suspension, etc. It’s still cheaper than the Supra, and there aren’t many cars competing with it in a similar price range. Plus, everything is getting more expensive. Inflation is high now and recently and likely for the foreseeable future. It’s unfortunate but not unexpected, that it costs as much as it does.
Mark and Jack. Thank you. Your commitment and passion for this RUclips segment and cars is general. Truly speaks to the gear heads out there like nothing else does. This was simply phenomenal.
As a long time z33 owner, this made me very sentimental. Fantastic content, savagegeese is definitely a channel that is under appreciated in the automotive industry. This video was a slap to my wrist, almost pulling a trigger on one of these ‘cultural-must’ new EVs.
Very well done. As the owner of a Z, I really appreciate this documentary. Cannot wait to drive the new iteration. Such a great car throughout its history.
You guys have knocked this video out of the park. Bravo. I bought a 370Z figuring it wasn't worth waiting, I stand by that decision, and I'm really not that interested in the Z as a result. But hearing how Nissan's old guard have tamed some of the rough edges from the 370Z and put so much love into this car as part of a lifelong journey warms my heart and tickles my engineering gland at the same time. I wish it every success as a true driver's car.
I hit I-75 north of Tampa in my 370Z for a celebratory run today, in honor of this fantastic video. All hail glorious Nissan and thanks guys! 48,000 miles on the 370 so far. Drinks 1/8 quart of Redline 5W40 every 5,000 miles. Zero issues.
I watched all the early reviews last night knowing they wouldn't even come close to answering all the questions that Savagegeese would. Boy was I right. This channel is unbeatable. Impeccable work as always, boys.
Nissan did a great job on this "Z". They took the old bones of the old 350/370 and improved everything. Power, low end torque, steering, rear differential, and of course styling. Offered it from the beginning with a manual and a better front suspension than the Supra, at thousands of dollars less. A real winner.
It's going to really be interesting to see if the sales work out. Since Nissan said 40K MSRP base, which is still the 400hp motor, while Supra base is 43K, but with the 4 cylinder and still no stick.
@@sigmaprojects I think it will totally wreck Supra sales. However, Toyota got away fairly cheaply on that project, so it may not matter much. I'm not entirely sold on the Z's retro styling, but think the Supra is just plain ugly and overstyled. At least the Z looks consistently retro.
@@markmiller3279 I think both look pretty good, especially in person. My only gripe about the Supra's styling is that it looks way too close to an Alfa Romeo with its proportions, like if it had the Alfa triangle nose at that pointed area everyone would instantly think it's a new Alfa 8C. I just have a hard time seeing the Japanese DNA. The FT-1 at least had the proportions of a Supra so it was that bit recognizable. Time will tell if Nissan crushes Supra sales.
One of the reasons why I love this channel is you guys don't just do basic reviews, you make films. There is an element of art and style that goes even into the shortest of videos. I don't think Nissan or Polyphony Digital could have done a better job. Now I wait to test drive one or get my hands on one. The tail lights remind me so much of the 300ZX and there are so many elements that pay homage to each generation of Z car. As much as I dislike the sound of the VQ series at times, there aren't many cars outside of Porsches you can bang off the rev limiter, manual or auto, that take it and take it gracefully giving you every ounce of thrill you desire. Keep it up guys, keep it up. You sold me for sure. Now to just get my wife onboard but I'm sure she will be once we can test drive one together.
Magnificent!!! I admit I had to watch some of the big-budget clown-shows before I watched Dr. Goose & Jack Stagnasty do their storytelling magic... You told a story of how & why and, as an owner of a Z32, I actually would want to go explore the new Z for myself. Unparalleled presentation. I now understand what Nissan is trying to achieve with this car. This was brilliant. This is why SavageGeese is the Beatles of automotive journalism and everybody else, regardless of the size of their budget, is the Fuggs; SavageGeese simply does things uniquely better. And the Z, for the money appears to be uniquely better as well. I cannot thank you enough for the work, the presentation, the thoroughness of it all. And to Nissan, thank you for letting us dream the dream. Awesome!!!
I haven't even gotten a third of the way through and I have to thank you for having an intelligent, articulate, yet aesthetically pleasing video. For realz. 10 years ago, they needed one of the biggest broadcasting companies to produce content like this. This channel is just missing that third troll to make the trifecta of the Three Stooges. I don't think I've ever seen such a honest, down to earth, and relaxed car designer interview before. Usually it's full of marketing term bs and art college terms being thrown around by some designer refusing to get off his high horsy
I agree I've seen Alfonso in other interviews and he has always seemed like a normal guy.
I want to see Bmw designers put on the spot like this. I doubt we would hear much of art or emotion
Just because someone uses design terms doesn't mean they are arrogant
Gents, this video feels like a level up for you. The previous videos have built to this, but something about this one feels like it's broken through to a new level. Well done, and thank you.
Some cars have a soul. Mark even commented on it. The old guard is right. As a 50 year old that has a 350Z and is still making it better year after year there's a lot to be said for the feeling a car provides. Nissan has provided more of everything that matters with this one. This video was awesome.

👍
Thanks for making content for adults and not clickbait for 12 year olds.
I love hearing the engineering/design/business side of the process, and how Nissan's internal culture played into it. Love you guys!
As many are here, I am not a Nissan-o-phile but this really highlights what goes into making a timeless car -- well deserving of a timeless film.
You can't keep topping yourself like this SG. This was incredible.
Its beautiful but for sure going to get marked up by dealers 😒
@@JGL98 like every other vehicle right now. It's ridiculous 🙄
What an honor. A better group of guys couldn't have been selected to introduce the Z to North America. It's stupid, but I really teared up. This car, it is a family member for me. First car was a 350z. Dad, when he left, he had a 93 TT. It's going to be fun seeing where this is taken by the community.
Bruh that ain't stupid
Mark and Jack are the absolute pinnacle of automotive reviews and filmmaking. Thank you guys for all your hard work.
Fantastic cinematography and editing as always. This video will forever be relevant, depicting what to expect with this Z
But if those other cars offer that and better performance why would I go for less?
@@pleasedontwatchthese9593 I enjoy a quick car but certain power levels is just overkill.
Thanks! Top quality content all around.
I saw this video alongside Demuro’s Z video on my feed, and went straight to this. And I don’t regret it.
Mark and Jack killed it once again. Bringing the story of the new Z to life in a beautiful way. I hope this car sells big time to show manufacturers that people still want soul in their sports cars.

Sadly it might be underpriced with they way things are going. Expect to see 20k markups on these.
@@dielaughing73 $73k plus on-roads. The limited edition is $80k.

Nobody does these videos better! Can’t wait!
That intro and prologue was...just....breathtaking. Wow.
