Something that works really well for me, as someone with ankylosing spondylitis, is sleeping in two phases. I sleep for 5-6 hours, then another 2-3 hours. The back pain used to start after 7-8 hours of continuous sleep, but with this two-phase sleep cycle, the pain doesn't have time to become uncomfortable.
Sitting for most of one’s day is the worst for joints. There are always little moves, like she shows, that can be done throughout the day. They don’t take the place of actual exercise but beats sitting and getting stiffer with the years.
Thank you for all you do! I love your calm delivery of this helpful information. My question is about osteophytes and how to minimize them or treat them. I have them in my knees and now have torn meniscus issues. Is it common to have osteophytes removed with arthroscopic surgery? Thank you very much!
I suffer with O/A in both knees and hips , i keep moving as much as possible and have started small exercises routines that i have learnt from yourself , when they are bad the knees feel like they are eing eaten inside out and the only pain relief i have is Tramadol . A bad drug i know but without this i wouldn't be able to do what i do toady and move more freely , it is like catch 22 but hopefully doing exercises that you teach us i can limit on how many tablets i take a day . I also would like to wish you a Happy Christmas and a Happy New Year
Thanks Alyssa, You are thorough and talk slowly which is better than most u tubers. I have osteoarthritis in my right knee. I’ve been a runner my whole life. It’s hard for me to deal with. I don’t want a knee replacement cuz I’m only 52 if I can push through with therapy. I’ll be happier. Is it a muscle imbalance in your opinion?
It is very difficult to tell without knowing more information as your muscle strength, mobility, training volume and lifestyle factors, etc all play a role. It's possible a muscle imbalance, mobility restriction and/or instability are at play.
Thank you Alyssa! I have R.A. in my right replaced knee and lower body which affects my mobility. I use a rollator for it. Along with your very helpful tips here, i find that elevating my legs really helps with the swelling I get with my R.A. ❤
Thank you for such helpful advice, Alyssa❣️ Much of your info and exercises have been a tremendous help to me in the past few months. I’m so glad I found your channel💞
This is brilliant! What can I do to have healthy hips, that are noe arthritic, in the long run to reduce invasive procedures. It is an invasive procedure that has caused my groin and hip flexor pain. Thus its best for me to focus on what youve described. Any other suggestions? Thank you very much for sharing.
There you have it from Alyssa. How I agree that the wrong additives can mess up or downright negate any treatment plan. Now, plausibly onto herbs to maintain. Turmeric with black pepper, ginger or cayenne, and others, could make a marked difference. That is - If and only if: a) Your trusted medical professional agrees; b) Knowing the right proportion by starting slow and gradual, and, c) Your taste buds and stomach can take it.
Thanks so much for your continued advice for the short term and the long term. ❤ Would you do a video about the automated compression boots? My PT believes some of the knots on the back of my legs are blocked lymphatic fluids and suggested these boots/thigh high compression sleeves that do the compression for 30-60 mins a day. They are heated, and you choose the time and strength of the graduated compression etc. I wear compression socks, but they are not getting rid of these lymphatic blockages.
Well, this one had my name on it. Thanks. Trying to find the balance between work and rest for my painful hip joint (TFL & ITB!) is like trying to thread a needle while riding a jackhammer.
You have provided such great info! Thanks for this topic specifically - I'm on Gabapentin, Naproxen, Hydrocodone w/Acetomenaphin. I will use all your suggestions!
Thank you soooo much for being willing to share this information! My knee pain has recently increased, making it painful to walk. I am going to follow your instructions for help. I have heard that if I can reduce inflammation, I can avoid a knee replacement? Is that true? Also, do you recommend taking aspirin or Aleve to help reduce pain? I am taking vitamins almost every day and a turmeric capsule. Thank you again!
Surgery isn’t inevitable with osteoarthritis. It can be possible to avoid surgery but some people do end up needing surgery. Research suggests trying conservative measures first such as exercise and reducing inflammation before considering surgery. I cannot give medication advice.
Even though I have an appointment coming up, it was after so many months of psin, that I was wondering how to get by. Thanks to your recommendations I was able to get some relief. I want to ask you about gluten because I am finding out that it is giving me more pain. Thanks again.
Thanks for what you do, Alyssa 😊 You help so many, including me. Any tips for thawing a frozen shoulder? I have to "click" it for it to loosen up. So painful 😢
thank you for sharing ...will try your suggestions. Can you suggest any exercises for calf muscle pain. Physician diagnosed it as tendenitis. Do compression socks work ?
How much movement /activity do you recommend & how often? Like movement at some level every hour? I think my problem is sitting or laying down for a couple of hours several time a day? Isn 3-4 hours sitting without getting up & moving too much. Pretty sure answer is getting up & moving ant least every hour may be the true answer. What is your suggestion?

I have arthritis in my left hip. When standing in one place too long, my hips get very tired and I need to sit down to get relief. I’ve been doing some exercising, which does help. I’m trying to be consistent. I do not want to have surgery.
Do you have any videos relating to those of us with arthritis as well as lipedema and lymphoedema in the legs that make just walking painful? There doesn't seem to be too much available on the subject.
I have knee arthritis and try to play tennis 3 x/week. I also ride a cardiostrider most days 2x/day 15 minutes per time. What strengthening exercises can i do to strengthen my body specifically my knees? Thank you so much for all your info!

what about akiline baking soda 1/4 cup w water once a day for reducing inflammation ? alkaline diet. i have done the baking soda w water for the last 3 weeks and on days i don’t do it, I notice a difference??
They can be helpful but it depends on how they feel for you. Exercise choice and the volume of exercise is important to consider. I have some water exercises on this channel.
after a quick search in the research, it looks like there may be a connection between eczema and rheumatoid arthritis: pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/37043009/
Hi Claudette, I'm 52, had this symptom for a few years. Whenever I would get startled I would feel this unpleasant electric shock travel all the way down my limbs. Eventually I noticed on my blood labs that Vitamin B (can't remember which one) was on the lower than average normal side, and that B has a role to play in nervous system health. I started supplementing with a multi B (it has all the Bs). My electric shock symptom are gone now. It didn't take very long to see the change, either. You could research this essential nutrient, or even start supplementing while you look further into it, it's good to get all the Bs you need. God bless you!
You are amazing. You inspire me. I follow your exercises. Keep talking about knees please ‼️
I'm so grateful i found your channel ❤❤
