Evidently, that was retconned to make him able to stand toe to toe with the rest of the Avengers. Personally, I pray that the MCU doesn't even acknowledge this mistake.

bro all u need to know is in iron man 3. it wasn't a tremendous betrayal of the character.it was incredible. mandarin ruled.mcu need to do better overall of being accurate to villains.say what u want about dc.but even their bad films have better villains than mcu (with the exception of a couple)

I think they intended to put him in the Iron fist series cause he was part of the Heroes for Hire crew that they never got to show with Coleen Wing and Misty Knight

Netflix and Marvel got a lot of backlash casting a white actor for the Iron Fist role. Iron Fist actor should have been cast as Asian. Retcon the character as the original comic character was more a reflection of the prejudice back in the day. Times have changed. It's ok to cast Asian actors in leading roles.
*Fun fact: Shang Chi actually helped Spider-Man develop a fighting style called "the way of the spider" to help him manuever to battle after peter lost his early warning system or "spider senses".*
It's about time Marvel's greatest martial artist gets a shot at the big screen. Hopefully he'll be portrayed just right. Also, I hope to see DC do the same with their Karate Kid. And hopefully one day, Variant will do a versus episode with Karate Kid against Shang-Chi.

@@M.W.K6996 well Joe is right as it was stated in the comics that Karate Kid was from the future, 31st century to be exact. So nope, Shang Li's timeline and Karate Kid's timeline are different and they will not encounter each other.

I would be carefully optimistic sure Daredevil and Winter Soldier's fight scenes were great, but look at Iron Fist he's the second best fighter and his fight scenes were trash. Honestly they need to get the Daredevil choreographers and some legends from Hong Kong movies like Sammo Hung for the movie
Omar Jimenez yes but, iron fist was not a mcu movie. Daredevil was a surprise how good the fight scenes were, the mcu is expected to at least have good fight scenes especially with their budget

It's also worth mentioning that Shang Chi is directly based on Bruce Lee, hence the character was released in 1973 right after Bruce Lee died.

Due to Shang Chi being based off of Bruce Lee, Bruce Lee's son Brandon Lee was supposed to be cast as Shang Chi back in the 90s before Brandon tragically died.

Man, If Bruce Lee was still alive he would be a great playing this character in the movie.
He was literally a superhero in real life, he had super strength; super speed; super reflexes; and was a very wise person.

He was popular because of Doug Moench's James Bond type stories, including his penchant for great onomatopeia, as well as awesome art from Paul Gulacy. Which is fitting since Bruce Lee toyed with the idea of creating a Bond-like Chinese martial artist character.
I'm hyped for this movie. Hopefully it does the character of Shang-Chi justice.

Why is Shang-Chi's ability to multiply himself always ignored?
Possibly because it's a new feature. If they do include his multiply technique, I hope it's mostly chi-related (spiritual). Like the Dragon Ball "After Image Technique", except they solidify just enough to deliver a strike.
BBBHuey More like Tenshinhan’s Shishin from the original dragon ball, where he splits himself into four duplicates at the cost of having a fourth of his strength.
More like overlooked. I guess probably because people are so enticed by Shang Chi’s awesome kung fu skills

I so needed this. I mean I kinda knew about Shang-Chi... but never went down that rabbit hole in comics. An underrated character, that has ties with the more popular heroes, glad this character has a chance. Like GOTG
My favorite bit of shang-chi background is that Spider-Man once lost his Spider Sense and because of that he was nearly crippled. Living for years with his heightened reflexes and awareness it messed it up insanely bad losing a Spider Sense he didn't realize how much he relied on it in everyday life. So he went to shang-chi and trained with him in order to regain a sense of I want to say balance but sort of a kind of awareness. With his help they created a new form of martial arts based around Peter Parker's abilities. Then inevitably when Spider Sense returned he was straight up Kung-Fu Master.
