Can you also analyse wenwu's fighting style too ? I'm really interested on wenwu's techniques since he lived for a thousands of years
Whatever external kung fu styles that was taught to Shang Chi comes from Wenwu. Since Wenwu trained Shang Chi himself alongside Death Dealer.
Why? It would be a nearly identical video to this because almost everything Shang-Chi knows comes from his father and Death Dealer.
Wouldn't it be the same as Shang Chi. He trained him and must have passed down the knowledge of his fighting art.
Actually, Wenwu additionally used Tiger Style kung fu when he fought against Ying Li, which is also part of the umbrella of Northern Shaolin style.
@@ivanlim3180 I believe it is Hung Gar Kung Fu. In fact, I think they mention wenwu using this style behind the scenes.
Some of the best action sequences that Marvel has brought to the big screen so far. I loved every fight, especially the 1v1 scenes. I love superheroes and Kung fu/martial arts movies, and Shang-Chi absolutely nailed it for me! Can't wait to see what's next!
The bus fight reminds me so much of old Jackie Chan movies - using the enviroment, clothes, the flow of techniques used, much better experience than shaky cam and ton of cuts you see in a lot of modern movies.
Hope you saw the full video as I do elaborate on why it reminds you of Jackie Chan movies!
@@Godzillarex Keep up the great work, my friend! I always look forward to seeing your next batch of videos, because I have yet to be disappointed. Take care and Happy Holidays!
@@Godzillarex Yep, i typed the comment before i finished the video :) Anyway it,s nice that you recognize few styles of wushu in Shang Chi fighting style.I can suggest a nice source of knowledge about wushu, if you like comicbooks- it,s manga "Kenji" about young japanese who learn Bajiquan and he spends some time travelling through China and gets to know a bit of many styles - like Tang Lang, Pigua, Hung Gar, and many others.
@@Endru85x I LOVE Kenji. Reread that manga a few times.
Shang-Chi is such a love letter to Kung Fu flicks back then. Absolutely creative choreography. Thanks for the analysis so soon after the movie came out!
As a martial artist myself, I actually noticed many of his styles as I watched the movie. Great video my friend, I’ve been looking forward to seeing you cover this one! 🙂
Very cool! Thank you
"Trapping" is just an initial engagement element of Chinna, and is present in most complete martial styles in one form or another. Same as the vertical punch, which also appears in Shaolin Long Fist and countless other styles in Chinese Martial Arts. Parkour elements are also trained in the classical styles. This is called Qing Gong, and in still trained in Wudang Quan today.
Yep, like I covered in the intro, there is a TON of crossover in martial arts. Trapping is also a component of Shaolin Kung Fu and JKD.
Exactly, I was going to say if you were to conclude that Shang Chi knew Wing Chun, just from the first (vertical) punch he throws on the bus, you would be wrong. His body position is all wrong for Wing Chun!
@@Elurin Those rapid fire/chain punches definitely scream wing chun.
I am so glad you pointed out Bajiquan. That is the one style above all others I want to be able to learn someday and I was so excited when I saw that ramming elbow strike in the bus scene
Tkd being a martial art for this film also makes sense given what training simu was given was started by the guys at martial club with Andy le (death dealer) who is know for his kicks
I didn't know I wanted his style analyzed - Now I do thank you :D
Thanks! Make sure to share the video if you get the chance!
@@Godzillarex will do
In the Marvel Comics Universe of Earth-616, Shang-Chi is a grandmaster primarily in Chinese martial arts, such as Kung-Fu, along with all the other different martial arts styles around the world secondarily.
He is Marvel's version of Bruce Lee and is ranked #1 as Marvel's greatest martial artist, where as Iron Fist is ranked #2.
I'd put Cat in there at #2 imo.
@@eduardolamboy4776 I think that the only reason The Cat is overlooked is because of his obscurity. He should be Shang-Chi’s equal or slight inferior due to statements and his fight against him, but he hasn’t appeared many times to gather more overall feats than Iron Fist. Comics are sometimes tricky like that. People are always trying to decide whether feats or statements are better for quantifying strength. I’d say feats, but some others would disagree. In other words, we have more feats to pull from with Iron Fist because he’s appeared in more than 778 comics (according to the Marvel database) while The Cat has about 35 appearances. Shang-Chi doesn’t have as many appearances as Danny, but he’s held multiple series, so he has a lot of feats to pull from too.
Taskmaster is #2 if he can copy and predict your next move as the fight goes on. And you're fighting: Captain America, Spiderman Iron fist, Wolverine, and then some
To bad the iron fist series was poorly cheorgraghed
@@lamarledennis3220 just because you can copy and instantly incorporate it doesn't mean you're as good as the bests as someone better could easily use a move he wouldn't expect due to the person not using the move before
Great job Adrian. Marvel should hire you to do fighting style/fight scene breakdowns for their heroes!
I agree with this! 🙏🏽💪
Great video! Wasn't expecting shang chi but glad you analyzed him. Shang chi and the legend of the ten rings was a great movie and I loved the fight scenes😁
This is great! Love this movie! The fight choreography was incredible! Awesome breakdown as always! 🙏🏽💪
Great video! So many new fighting styles, and it was great to revisit wushu; it's been a while since you've analyzed a character who knew wushu.
Another great video!! Props to Simu Liu for nailing all of these arts. To go from very little martial arts knowledge to 9 arts all woven together is crazy. And props to the creative team for really SHOWING all these styles in creative ways.
Awesome! Shang-Chi is absolutely amazing, the martial arts are so real, authentic and the best in the MCU. And the cinematography by Bill Pope is awe inducing.
Dang. This was great to watch! I loved Shang-chi and was hoping he could get a Fighting Styles video. Thanks!
Thanks! Make sure to share the video if you get the chance. It really helps me out!
It's been a hot minute since watching your videos, but I'm glad you covered Shang Chi as seeing the choreography in the movie from beginning to end, it is breathtaking.
As a martial artist/martial arts enthusiast, I'm happy to see such fluent choreography in a superhero movie/martial arts film on screen. Keep doing you, Adrian!
Evan Tai is one of the fight designers also, Evan teaches Malaysian Silat and Filipino Kali/Arnis. In the bus scene he uses an elbow strike found in Filipino martial arts.
Yes, there is plenty of crossover in martial arts techniques as I mentioned. That same elbow strike is also seen in Muay Thai, Krav Maga, Bajiquan, and Wing Chun. That's why I always try to group it with the martial art that makes the most sense with the character I'm discussing.
@@Godzillarex Since Shang Chi is by Marvel canon storyline and by word of Captain America the best martial Artist on earth, I'd like to think he knows more than just Chinese based Kung Fu. Also we see the Ten Rings Organization expands internationally and uses unconventional warfare tactics.
As a life long taekwondo practitioner and martial arts fan the amount of talent in the film was mind blowing . I actually cried.
As a fellow Taekwondo practitioner, you should check out my short film! ruclips.net/video/mXImFlpwc2w/видео.html
With Hawkeye coming out right now, I’m looking forward to seeing his video eventually.
Thanks for the awesome analysis, I remember asking if you’d cover him and you did. He’s for sure one of my favorite Marvel characters. The film is my favorite MCU film, without a doubt.
Yaay!!Absolutely love it,hats off.
You are very thorough!! Excellent coverage!!!
Thank you! Share the video if you can!
Love that type of video
Excellent video...yes I would like to see your analysis on Wenwu!
The final fight against his father was straight heat. Especially that “kamehameha blast against the soul eater dragon”
I would've much rather preferred if it would have stayed more grounded and personal, kind of like Civil Wars finale.
Dude thank you for this, the fight scenes in the movie was just fire
I've been looking forward to this one.
Just saw the movie last night. It was awesome!!! Love your videos!!
A great martial arts movie and an excellent analysis by Adrian, what more could you ask for? Nice video 😄👍🏻!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great observation and analysis as always. I'm hoping to see an episode detailing John Wick's fighting styles.
Here you go! ruclips.net/p/PLEGMqA6EvzxnRpVae0XUkw4c8s-KXqdRZ
I love how you’re videos have me thinking of things after it’s over. Like for instance, now I’m curious to find out: Given China, Japan, and Korea have intertwined history; what would (plausibly) be the Chinese influenced or equivalent to a Tae Kwon Do, and/or Hapkido style? And now thanks to you, I’ll spend the next couple of days reading into/studying this very thought.
Haha, cool! Let me know what you find!
This movie sky rocketed my love and passion for martial arts.
Lol this video made me analyze my own fighting style and I’ve realized I’ve had a wide range of fighting training since a young age. I started doing taekwondo starting age 6, then I started doing Muay Thai and Boxing starting age 13. I started training parkour around age 14. Then at age 14-18 I played for my high schools rugby team and did a bit of wrestling as well. I played competitive tennis growing up which helped with my footwork and power. I then started practicing Northern Shaolin Kung Fu around age 17 and I became a kickboxing instructor starting at that age and received a rugby scholarship at around the same age. Then at age 18, I started training Jiu-jitsu, Krav Maga, Boxing (again) up until the pandemic hit. I trained calisthenics at home and sparred with my friends during the pandemic. Now I started training Shaolin Kung Fu, MMA, Boxing and Parkour again.
I knew you would do one for Shang chi.
There are many different styles represented in wushu. Usually separated into location of the creation of those styles. Northern styles are usually long and dynamic. Southern styles more compact with short power for closer combat. More grounded/rooted. Both northern and southern styles have a variety of weapons. Then there are internal and external styles. Internal being more tai chi like.
Wushu is really cool. And it's definition is soooooo broad. It can mean a plethora of things.
@@Godzillarex So can the term "Kung Fu" I would argue that it is even broader.
Guys, he’s not going to do videos like this for anime characters or fight scenes. The reason being that 2D animation is never consistent with that kind of stuff.
Loved this analysis.
How about an episode on Takayuki Yagami from Judgment / Lost Judgment?
It’s like awesome way for Adrian to actually promote for Shang chi being released in digital and on blu ray and dvd.
Spoko film, ja w sumie naliczyłem się jeszcze Gunshu, jak i tai chi Yang, tai chi czen
Shang-chi this movie is
So freaking cool love it all the way great movie I'm a big Marvel fan
Thank you for covering Shang-Chi
Thanks for watching! Make sure to share the video if you get the chance!
Oh my God ! U are back ! Please help us to analyse more about the martial arts of our favourite characters !
I've been back since July! Here are my latest videos: ruclips.net/p/PLEGMqA6EvzxkdRDD5Ym6iPmuUpXQF7QH_
This was such a good Movie.
As a Tai Chi Martial Artist
The style I mostly practice is Hard Style and Fast Form
But practice slowly it’s Tai Chi
But Soft Style is more meditation and Erratic Style is soft but use force and which is used like how Shang Chi fights his father
I’m mostly more expert in Sword Form rather than Staff
But to highly recommend that
Learning Sword is like learning how to handle the basics for years before moving to Staff
It took me 6 or 7 years from 2014 learning sword to be able to learn Long Staff
And it’s really difficult to get used to but I’m more in style with Sword than I thought when I practiced Staff
I really liked the choreography in Shang-Chi. Best part is you can learn these insane moves as well if you go to skillshare! Just go to this lad’s description and get your one month free. Be the real life Shang-Chi starting today with skillsh-
*slap noises*
I would never thought Shang Chi was also using TKD! I think I can understand it as TKD has several stylish kick movement.
Could you do characters from Assassin's Creed Series next?
The why the jumping split kick is a signature TKD move
Yes!!! Yes!!! Thank you, sir!!!
Thanks for watching! Make sure to share the video if you get the chance!
@@Godzillarex Most definitely!
This is where the fun begins
Cool video 👍🏼 Could you do Albert Wesker next?
I don't think I'll be getting to Wesker anytime soon. Chris and Jill did not perform equal to or as well as Leon, which means there isn't much of a point in going back to Resident Evil.
I was wondering if you picked up on Bajiquan too. A lot of my friends that train in Chinese Martial arts (traditional and modern) didn't pick up on it and just said it was Southern Kung Fu. By the way thank you for informing me that the one with the rings I've seen in the flicks growing up is called Hung Gar. The Kung Fu schools I saw and visited never mentioned and Southern Kung Fu by a specific name other then Wing Chun. I never heard of nor seen Shui Chiao in action, I'm definitely going to research it.
The elbow strike in the bus is what sold the Bajiquan for me for sure. Thanks for seeing the video! Make sure to share it if you get the chance
He doing Hung Gar on the Bus. Those low stance punchs with his right arm, are known as Bow & Arrow punch.
I did show he is doing Hung Gar on the bus. And like I said, there is plenty of crossover in martial arts. We've done that same stance and punch in Wing Chun, which I've personally trained in.
You gotta do tifa next or any of the tekken or street fighter character's (like paul from tekken and luke from SFV)
P.S: have you tried doing an martial arts analysis on anime?
Can you do also Shang chi mothers defense style. To me she not fighting but to defend herself, is she using he crane.
What she did was amazing, Like she is just flowing like the wind, like that’s the best defense I ever seen in my life
It's mainly Tai Chi with special effects.
This is a good video
Thanks! I got a ton of others on the channel, here's the full playlist: ruclips.net/p/PLEGMqA6EvzxnRpVae0XUkw4c8s-KXqdRZ
Normally it takes months to get the right footage, but this is very quick
Is it possible to do videos for tv characters like Sam Wilson, Peggy Carter, etc?
I will add both of them to the list of suggested videos!
@@Godzillarex oh they were suggestions, but I might like that. And have a merry Xmas
The style of fighting scence on the tram is Baji Quan, because that fighting style use the power from legs movement and they also use Elbow 😁 that is really different from wing chun
I've personally trained in Wing Chun. We did that exact same punch. There is plenty of crossover in martial arts techniques. Especially within all styles of Kung Fu.
Great video! I totally agree for the most part, though I'd say his "wing chun" punch is more indicative of bajiquan and shaolinquan, with his low stance as he does it and how he steps into it. The trapping and short fists are very wing chun though. Also the scene with Michelle Yeoh where it was stated that open hand = internal/soft and closed fist = external/hard is pretty funny since external styles make a large use of open hands and internal styles use fists a lot. To the initiated it seems kind of arbitrary to make that distinction but for the sake of simplicity for audiences I approve of it. Shang Chi is a very good new introduction to the wuxia genre for young people in the west and a highlight of the MCU for me for sure.
Thanks! Yep, like I state in the intro there is plenty of crossover in martial arts techniques. Where I trained in Wing Chun we did that same punch, so it must have crossed over at some point. And yeah, getting into the nitty gritty of martial arts, especially something as complex as Kung Fu, is usually reserved for the enthusiasts haha.
@@Godzillarex Yeah totally. That kind of straight punch with the low stance is common in most Chinese fist styles, since it's derived from spear techniques and the styles split off from each other relatively recently. Bajiquan, Xingyiquan, and Shaolin are probably the most famous for it though in popular culture for whatever reason.
High level Wing chun, plus other traditional Chinese martial arts. Done ✔ 👍
i think another reason for shang chi's inclusion of tkd is that he trained tricking for the role. tricking includes the flashiest moves from martial arts which works perfectly for film
If you'd like to see Tricking in an analysis, check out my Jill Valentine video! ruclips.net/video/uzCqsBIW8b0/видео.html
@@Godzillarex oh nice! hadn't watched that video so didn't know you had included tricking before. but i think it's safe to say that tricking is one of shang chi's fighting styles. this is especially apparent in the yellow suit section of the training montage. in that scene andy le doubled for shang and showed off acrobatic moves exclusive to tricking like corkscrews
In this case, I grouped it with his knowledge of Wushu, it felt more appropriate to the character, and several Wushu movements serve as the inspiration for movements seen in tricking (the butterfly twist being the basis of the corkscrew for example)
It makes sense that he doesn't know many styles, and many of the styles he knows aren't shown often, so it shows that he's a master of kung fu rather than a master of all martial arts like what many Hollywood martial arts movies do.
I was actually happy to see him stick to Chinese martial arts for most of the film, as it was supposed to be a celebration of Chinese culture. It would be weird if he would have delved into too many other foreign styles to his background.
Nice
Hey, hey!!! He’s back!!!
Hey! I've been back since July of this year, but I'm glad RUclips finally served up one of my videos to you haha
Basically, Shang Chi just mastered all 4 elements bending.
The best super héro vidéo série of youtube IS back ^^ so cool

How many fighting style does Chun li or Cammy know?
There’s a part where I thought he might capoeira. While he’s fighting xialing he fell back onto his hands and pushed himself back up similar to something I saw in capoeira
How about doing videos on Danny Rand/Iron Fist, Colleen Wing, and Steel Snake from the "Iron Fist" and "The Defenders" Netflix/Disney+ series?
How about Mockingbird and Agent May from the "Agents of SHIELD" TV series?
Ayyeee sweet!

I think sticking to kung fu you could have place the kicks to northern shaolin, from what I read it's a simmilar kicking style to tae kwondo.
Yes, but taking into account the stunt coordinating background, I couldn't just ignore that.
You should do Andy Le from Martial club because he was the one who trained him
Great video. Only issue is the way he pronounces some of the Chinese words like Quan拳 or Shuaijiao摔跤. Especially Quan multiple times 😂
Thanks. I don't speak Chinese, only Spanish, English, and a bit of Japanese
would love to see robpats and zoe kravitz as batman and catwoman analysis!
Parkour/Freerunning was developed for the French Army as a combination of Agility Training and Urban Combat Mobility, so Martial Art.
@10:00 Andy Cheng repping the #martialclub t-shirt
Could you do Agent Carolina from Red Vs Blue next?
This is kinda a brod request but can you do more of these Kung Fu based characters, there are some many stiles out there like the one's you mentioned here that I have never heard of

@@Godzillarex thank you
That first punch on the bus reminded me of Kenpo.
Yep, plenty of techniques crossover
I would probably replace tai chi with ba gua. both are internal and have to deal with meeting force with softness, but ba gua also has a lot more emphasis on circular movments. a major part of practice is walking in a circle.
The stunt coordinators and Simu Liu confirmed it was Tai Chi. Not Ba Gua.
Moon knight might be an interesting one to look at
i remember seeing Bagua Zhang circle walking in the movie as well
I thought I did too, but upon closer examination I paired it with Shaolin. Besides the walking, the Bagua Zhang movements just weren't there.
Could you do a fighting styles for Ragnar from the show Vikings please?
Please do a fighting styles video on tremor from mortal kombat x

Wouldn't that just be... Gun Fu?
Can you please make a video on how many fighting style does Hawkeye know especially the Ronin I am waiting from a long time please make a separate video on how many fighting style does Hawkeye know
He already said multiple times that he’ll do it. The most likely time is after Hawkeye’s show is done.
@@CompositeCreativity ok
Can you make video on Ah Sahm from Warrior?
Can you do something on the main character of Rise to Honor?
During the bus fight scene shang-chi reminds me of a young jet li
He is so talented. The One was an amazing film!
He's no Neo from the Matrix, but Shang-Chi's Kung Fu is still very good. 👊
That was pretty Frick’n Cool!!
I hope DC will make it’s equivalent with a movie of Karate Kid aka Val Amorr from the 31st Century who happens to be a master of every known Martial Arts throughout History leading up to the 31st Century including Alien Combat styles. Though Shangi Chi is a master of Kung Fu Val is a Master of every Fighting style
Sir please tell about deadpool fighting style how many style to use
His Mom looked like she was using a little BaguaZhang.
It would be interesting to see someone from Yu Yu Hakusho
I don't analyze 2D anime. Animation is too inconsistent and open to interpretation.
What about Hannibal King from blade fighting style
It would be so awesome to see how many fighting styles does snake eyes know from gi joe.
Can't, Paramount demonetizes my videos. When I see the movie I'll be sure to post something about my first impressions as to which he uses!
Good
Good Video👍
In the Bus Fight Scene Shang Chi doesent use Wing Chun for his first attack. It`s a Sidefist liked it is used in Hung Gar and other southern styles.
Like I stated in the intro and replied to in numerous comments besides yours, there is tons of crossover in martial arts techniques. Especially within Kung Fu itself. I've trained in Wing Chun and we practiced that very same strike. And not only that, that strike makes an appearance in other arts, such as Kali and Muay Thai, and Hung Gar like you mentioned (which is part of his final tally). Again, it's not about isolating one movement, it's about grouping it with the character and his other movements to arrive at the best suited style.
@@Godzillarex Interesting. I look more in the stance. I never see a deep Ma Bo ore Sei Ping Ma in Wing Chun.
But you are right. A lot of techniques in Kung Fu are simulare with little changes.
In movies they make often crossovers, so that the fight scenes looks good. And they do in Shang Chi 👍
Exactly! They mix and match so often that you're left with an execution that borrows heavily from other martial arts.
Do a video on ironfist
Can you please do a akaza fighting style.
