  • Motorhome Trip to Pooley Bridge (Lake District): Boat Trip and Fish and Chips
    Pooley Bridge is on Ullswater in the Lake District and is a small village with several caravan parks, eateries and Ullswater Steamers.
    We booked a pitch at Hillcroft Park and arrived in our Motorhome. They also welcome caravans and have pods and statics available to hire. We were on pitch C37, hard standing with electric, although they do also have serviced pitches.
    From the site we walked down in to Pooley Bridge and ate at The Crown. The food was fantastic and the pub backs on to the water, making it a great spot to sit, eat and relax.
    The following day we were up early and headed down to catch the boat from Pooley Bridge Pier. Ullswater Steamers run boats throughout the day from the pier and down to Howtown and Glenridding.
    We took the boat to Glenridding and spent a few hours having a walk around before getting a hot drink.
    We called in to Fellbites Cafe and enjoyed a hot drink and some absolutely amazing cake. This cafe is definitely worth a try if you are wanting a snack.
    After that it was back on the boat and back to Pooley Bridge for lunch. Our choice this time was Granny Dowbekins, and we were more than happy with our decisions. We both enjoyed a lovely lunch then walked back up to the Motorhome.
    We had an absolutely fantastic, time at Pooley Bridge and would recommend a visit. It is a good place to explore other parts of the Lake District from too.

    That looks like a lovely site!
    We caravanned at Ullswater in Nov 22 but stayed towards the other end of the lake at Ullswater Holiday Park on a serviced pitch. We did the boat trip grom Glenridding to Howtown and back and the weather during the boat trip was blue skies with the odd white cloud...stunning!
    The Pooley Bridge Inn that you were standing outside has lovely meals too.

    Just a note on Pooley Bridge. You might have found the bridge to look and feel quite new, the original bridge built in the 1750's was washed away during Storm Desmond in 2015. The original bridge had three arches and designers assumed it could be replicated but upon further inspection the river bed was in no way stable. This resulted in a new single arch design that sought to prioritise pedestrians and require less intrusive construction methods - it still took them 5 years to open the replacement!
    Great video!

    Really nice video, very relaxing to watch! As Cumbrians we are biased but it's a beautiful part of the country and best visited before the tourist season hits! We'll definitely be putting this site on our list. Another lovely one is Threlkeld Hall, small but very beautiful.

      Thanks for watching Phil. This was a great place to visit, especially with a Motorhome as everything this on your doorstep. No one came back to me about meeting up so I haven’t planned anything. Have a great week 😊

    The one thing I don't understand, most of the campsites in the USA have full hook ups why do the campsites in the UK not do that?

    • @HereWeTow
      @HereWeTow  2 месяца назад +1

      Thanks for watching, by full hook ups I think thats fully serviced here in the UK. Some pitches do, at an extra cost, but its common to just get electric hook up. The main reason I presume is the cost to the campsite to put the extra infrastructure in for water and drainage. Many of the sites across Europe are the same. I would love to try an RV trip in the US..😊

      @@HereWeTow so you pay for the convince of full hook ups, ok I get it

    • @HereWeTow
      @HereWeTow  2 месяца назад

      @marktorrington4754 Yes, normally a fully serviced pitch would be £3-8 a night more depending on the campsite. 😊

    Travelling west on the A66 its best to ignore the satnav when it tries to take you through Alston to get to Penrith. Especially in winter this road can be treacherous. Definitely not suitable if you are towing a caravan or if any passengers get car sick, it’s quite a switch back route over the fell side. All that said the views over to the North Lakes are stunning. It’s easier and just as quick to stay on the A66 and pick up M6 south.

      Thank you for watching.. yes, we headed back up the main A road and also found a great service station just before the A66 which did great hot sandwiches. 😊
