Oh please, this man is just as guilty. No one forced him to take the Plyers girls money. He was totally complicit and a willing partner, he was ceo of a bank for heavens sake, he's not stupid, he knew what he was doing was illegal. Helping yourself to a orphans money! And he didn't really help Hannah with car, he refused. He charged them $5 for a sandwich. No, he's where he belongs and he can dress it up how he wants but unless he has written consent from the Plyers to use their money it's stealing.

I started doing taxes for HRBlock in 2012. The IRS was a mess, still is, but hoping it gets better. I can see how the lack of IRS employee responsibilities were all "Murdaugh'd" up too. It trickles down. I quit working for the whole scandal 6 years later. The hard working people, not just the clients of Murdaugh, were never fairly accounted for. The whole thing is nuts! Hopefully the IRS gets its act together, in a CONSTITUTIONALLY EFFECTIVE way, soon.... ❤

Actually he’s not in prison yet, ironically. But He does have two ankle monitors on that the poor wittle fewwa is having to pay for each month so that the courts know his location at all times. I think it’s technically called “house Arrest” until he is sentenced. His wife got up in front of the judge and was complaining/crying about how unfair life is for them/him now that his and Alex’s crimes have come to light. He even has a curfew and can’t go but a certain amount of miles from his home, (which is what the wife used to show just how unfair life is for him now) because he wasn’t able to go watch his son’s high school football game because it was after curfew and too far away. He wasn’t allowed special permission for this either. In other words, someone told him “No”! 😱😳😲
I mean the nerve of someone telling these VIP’s no, and a mere probation/parole officer (who is so much more beneath them) at that! 🤷🏻‍♀️😉 Luckily the judge agreed with the officer and reinforced the decision to adhering to the rules of house arrest if he was going to stay out of jail until sentencing. 😎

And the notion that an attorney is special because they are an officer of the court makes the law meaningless. Judges, lawyers and such should be audited more frequently than the rest of us, instead of less often. We hold these individuals in high esteem as we have been trained to think of these people as 'special'. It must create much angst for others in this profession when one of their own is on trial. The judge in this case needs to send the message that this dude is going to suffer. Alex has brought heat on all those in his profession in his community. Their burn will assure he gets what's coming. Maybe more so.

I know he’s been to trial already, & I wonder if they played this in court? I know he’s your distant cousin & glad he did the interview with you because unfortunately it showed me he was indeed guilty. I really like how he threw in there about charging the sandwich, “I wish I wouldn’t have charged it NOW, I could afford it [to buy my own sandwich]”. He certainly could afford his own sandwich. He was a bank ceo for crying out loud! at the least he could take it out of the money he was paid to take care of their money. Also, he absolutely told on himself when he was describing Alec’s checks he brought in from the law firm made to PSB. Yes, they were indeed made out to PSB, Alec could try to dictate what he wanted done with the $. However, since they referenced the names that he was charged to care for these folks $, then the right thing to do would be to tell Alec, “I can’t take these checks and just do what you want me to with them. Alec, I’m sorry but because these checks have this persons name referenced on it, they need to be made out to me as conservator for these people and that’s the account they need to go in. PSB agreed to be conservator for These people but we did not Agree to allow you to abuse the funds like this. You and I both know if you’re caught, I’ll go down with you & I just can’t do that. I have too much to lose to take a hit like that, Alec”.
I even understand perhaps being intimidated by Alec because of his name. But when it came down to it, Mr. Laffitte had the final say on whether or not he would allow Alec to use his bank to commit this fraud. He could have said “I’m sorry this is not right and I can’t have a part of this”. Sure he wouldn’t have been conservator, but I believe the big wigs at the banks 100% had to allow Alec to do these things or he couldn’t do them. They did indeed enable him and when it comes down to it they allowed $$ to direct their own moral compass Instead of allowing a human being (that had already experienced a devastating circumstance & desperately needed those funds just to survive) direct it. unfortunate for them now, they must pay the price for their own actions. Doing the right thing is not always easy, but it is the right thing to do. Period. It is a sad story all around, but look at all the innocent people that was horribly affected by these actions & way less off than a bank ceo or a prominent attorney & all they did was trust the wrong people. Those are the ones folks need to feel sorry for, not poor innocent addicted Alec or little ol’ intimidated Russell.
“With great position and power comes even greater responsibility”. Both had a responsibility to these poor unfortunate souls & both failed them miserably. Now the sins of the father will be felt by Russell’s kids and certainly by Alec’s remaining family. But I’m sure it’s nothing compared to the real victims in all this. 😢🤷🏻‍♀️

Pretty sure Google, libraries, & phones existed in 2011 - 2021. RL seems to have had no clue re the duties, responsibilities, ethics, laws, standards, or rules re the Conservator or Personal Representative gigs he accepted. There's no indication he ever tried to research, study, ask about, or consult w/ state or fed regulators, professional orgs, a judge, or even just Google; despite his admission he agreed & was paid to serve in critical roles managing, preserving, & ideally maximizing settlement $$$ that belonged to vulnerable youngsters &/or survivors. He mentioned annuities but never obtained or confirmed one for any of the people he agreed to rep or whose money he agreed to manage &/safeguard. The interviewer pretty much completely ignores that elephant, yet invites & reinforces normalizing RL's casual use of Plyler money to buy himself lunch. Isn't that what lawyers and business people do? Just bill it to the client & put it on their expense report? The interviewer leads RL & feeds him answers to elicit agreement rather than asking RL whether he ever checked to see if his lunch reimbursement out of the Plyler funds was permitted, required, discretionary, or prohibited. Not even a modicum of diligence appears to have been undertaken by RL to determine at the time what was allowed, required, or prohibited. The whole situation & RL's seeming passivity where he should be actively tuned in or at least tuned up on behalf of the beneficiaries remains quite baffling.
