As a summary:
1. Alex asked her wife and son to come to Moselle (both were not planning to go there that day). He asked Maggie to come so they could go visit his father.
2. He leaves the house to go see his mother WITHOUT his wife and it was later known that his father was hospitalized, so Alex requesr didn't make any sense.
3. He said he never step foot on the kennels, but everybody confirmed to hearing his voice in the video that is minutes away from the murder.
4. When the police comes, the first thing he says is "Listen, this is very simple, my son was on a boat accident 2 years ago ...". Why he felt he needed to give that information so right away? Seemed he wanted to explain the motive. Weird thing to do from a grieving father and husband.
5. During police questioning, he never shows anger for what has happened or demanded justice. He seemed to be Ok with the outcome.
6. In that same line, he never demanded police to find the murderer.
7. The scene was bloody, and he was spotless. Which normal person that sees their family members like this, dont come close to touch them and see if there's any pulse or just to cry next to them.

And…Speaking from the side of someone who has lost a family member in an incredibly traumatic way, a wrongful death…..all you want to do is find out who did this and what happened.
Think about it… this is the most powerful family in that area, who gets away with everything… and has so many people connected to them….how in the hell would Alex not be on a complete tear, trying to find out who killed his wife and son, and WHY…rather than suggesting a motivation or potential responsible party? The answer is simple - he knew who did it and was not concerned with who, how, or why. Guilty… and again as someone who had to sit through a trial… god that was painful for our family. I can imagine it must be VERY painful for him to listen to and see all this because he has to face what he has done. And he deserves it.

A.M., while thinking he could out-smart anyone he ever met, is actually dumber than a soup sandwich. He disposed of his wife's phone by tossing it out the window less than a mile from the scene, and he left his son's phone at the scene. He sealed his fate. I hope his nightmares never cease.
I think you have to have a conscience for the nightmares to occur... and it remains to be seen whether Alex Murdaugh has one.
Fwiw, I've listened to his phone calls from the jail: he never showed an iota of concern about the killers of his family. This is only one example, of course, but it's damned telling.

Alex going for a holiday with Maggies family after he killed her is another sociopathic personality trait, trying to make himself look innocent to stay in their good books, manipulate their support. What a piece of work!

Great work Detective David Owen. I was so impressed with his humble manner. Murdaugh underestimated this man. (11 August interview) I’ve watched the whole trial from Western Australia. What an incredible trial to see unfold.
Always good to be reminded, Karen: the overwhelming majority of the police are decent, intelligent and trustworthy. This guy is impressive and good.
It's a pity the 95% good ones don't do better work getting rid of the maybe 0.3% bad ones.

Most of these trials are pointless bullshit, but what are you gonna do you have to take the good with the bad.
If they filtered out the incessant coughing, we might be able to hear the proceedings w/o being distracted every 5 seconds by yet another hacker. These hackers must be the worst people to sit beside in a movie theater or church...gross!
Refreshing to hear lines of questioning with clear intent and purpose, instead of wandering for hours going nowhere.
Lots of leading the witnesses, but unless the defense objects - keep on rolling. Both sides know constant interruptions and rephrasing of questions everyone knows has been entered evidence already pisses off and frustrates juries.

@@girlart9 they all do that. They have stuff they want to get in, cover, and if they don’t - they can’t use it in closing arguments. In a closing, you cannot use info that hasn’t been entered into evidence.

Roadside shooting was contrived to setup his announcing his going going into detox to rationalize/deflect reason for resignation (firing) from law firm. Any focus in court proceedings on his true opioid addiction and/or O use during night of murders? Going into detox appears manufactured ploy to buy him time and gain sympathy.

Curtis said AM got out of his car gun in hand. What if only Maggie was the target and Alex was pixxed Curtis had offed the boy or Curtis did them both too early? Or Curtis was the second shooter?

What I don’t understand is when Agent David Owen is asked by the lawyer questioning him to put gloves on before opening the package which held Alex’s cargo shorts, but the lawyer picks up the shorts without gloves.
Cuz it’s a show.

I would think by know it should have been determined if there was any substantial evidence, I believe the Attorney was quite upset at all the time wasted going back and forth and, while all the evidence if anymore, would have been easier to

I thought about the samething about The Shorts when I saw The Attorney pulling them out., but I guess He knew He could.
I thought the same. I actually thought that whole section was bordering on idiotic. It proved nothing.
They don't use tents to protect the crime scene(s)? We do where I live as many counties of states do and as is done throughout our entire state. The tents prevent prying eyes, keeps ppl away from the crime scene who shouldn't be there, protects the scene from the elements like rain, snow, sleet, and dust from blowing in.
That’s what I thought. Where’s the tents? Lots about this investigation were truly sloppy.
There were very few local officers at first. Sled arrived hours later. Alex was busy calling all his lawyer friends to come. Police were busy protecting crime scene bodies.
I noticed the police held up sheets to protect bodies from prying eyes.then covered bodies with tarps or body bags
They did put up coverage because rain was coming. But Alex had called everyone to the scene.
@@kimberley1449 - Alex purposely created a power barrier between his cronies and the cops, then SLED. Created ‘chaos.’ I hope the cops have learned the lesson. Doesn’t matter who it is - block everyone from the scene. I think the cops literally didn’t have the gear they needed soon enough - tents, etc. Putting sheets on dead bodies to shield onlookers at the risk of destroying forensics was absurd. Ban the onlookers. You can’t handle the hideous truth? Get away and don’t look. Don’t allow onlookers. But Illick was in charge.

@@MarieAntoinetteandherlittlesis - I listened to a podcast with Eric Bland on, I believe he’s the attorney for the Sattersfield sons. Bland thinks it’s possible some money was hidden in the Bahamas, but also possible money could literally be buried on the hunting property somewhere. Large amounts of stolen funds in the form of cash is a weird burden. If you deposit it into a bank, red flags go up. Was it normal income? A gift? Income means taxes must be paid on it. Can’t recall what Bland said about a new owner of the hunting property being able to keep it if they found millions in cash on the property. I’m having doubts there is money stashed anywhere. Alex was in such a financial jam, wouldn’t he have used it to pay people back and just claim ‘accounting errors’ rather than killing his wife/son?

I can see how people fell for his lies! During testimony, sometimes i forget what he did for a split second. He's so believable. This makes him such a dangerous man and I wonder if he has done it before and whether his whole family was the same (including his wife)

What a lost soul--Alex Murdaugh. So misguided and truly confused about what matters and how to live your life. Truly bizarre behavior, truly bizarre decisions he made.
David Owen wasn't recognized for his work. He never tried to take sides didn't get involved emotionally, David Owen is the best detective i have seen in 30 years. I hope law enforcement can learn from David. Be respectful, truthful, honorable and work hard. Wish i could meet the guy and thank him for his outstanding service.
The entire property should have been closed as a crime scene the moment sled arrived. They should never have allowed any non-investigative staff on scene whatsoever. Instead they allowed the suspect and his friends and family to wander the entire property.
Sled should have done deep forensics in the house as well as kennel area.

Even after the Trial, I am still surprised this Officer, after getting Alex's statement of lies, why he said seeing him before he changed and didn't ask him " How did you check Maggie and Paul for signs of life and NOT get a drop of blood on you, your hands, or white t-shirt?"
He had him right there!!!

✨Question: Mr. Alex stated to the police (as per police testimony) .. that when he arrived at the kennels that he immediately checked his son/wife to see if they had a pulse. Considering all the blood and gruesome scene surrounding the bodies .. How was Mr. Alex able to explain how he was able to check his son/wife for a pulse .. without getting any blood on himself, his clothes or his shoes ? ✨ What ever happened to the clothes he was wearing before the murders ? 🤔

I'm irritated by all the negative comments regarding SLED. While it is true there were some mistakes made, these are humans working a complex scene in real time, many awakened in the middle of the night with little sleep. Defense lawyers had months and and months and outside experts assistance to review and nitpick every step the SLED agents made and they did so while making hundreds of dollars per hour. Give SLED that opportunity and perhaps perfection could be achieved. Just remember who responds when you dial 911. It will not be Poot or the Hog Wrestler and their entourage!
Alex had spent years ingrating himself with LE & manipulating circumstances in the county to benefit his family & friend's! You could tell LE was very nervous on scene! But I think they all knew who did it!
It wasn’t SLED that messed up, it was the first responding officers from the local law enforcement agency. They didn’t establish a crime scene and every man and their dog went through it.
The entire location should have been void of anyone but agents... Plus they should have looked around with drones and flashlights for tire tracks or any evidence of someone having been off to the side of the property hanging around waiting for opportunity to go in there a kill them... Golf cart no or atv tracks freshly made heading away from the scene but off the main roadways... They did none of this.
_some_ mistakes ? the most basic rules were violated. A person watching TV a bit would have known better.
I think they did it right. No investigation is perfect. Like you said they are human and hindsight is 20 20. Alex gets off call with 911 was suspicious to me. He shows that at this moment he wanted to get his people there knowing they going to be upset and accidentally mess with the crime area.
I don’t think Alex has thought these murders out. He is up against men and women who have spent their entire life proving guilt of people like him. They have their reputations and egos on the line and there are a lot more of them. The “little detective” (as Paul was fondly referred too) will solve this last case from beyond the grave Alex Murdaugh lies about everything in he’s life and he is lying about this.

@@SuperiorDefense I think Paul's video with Alex's voice in the background was the final nail. It placed him there when he had previously denied it and then on the stand admitted he was actually there.
When you have a whole town know you and you're family, and are best friends with the law, have money and power, you assume you'll have help in covering, or rely on purposeful neglect from the law. He thought they'd believe me, because of who I am, didn't much care about the phone records, onstar location, and other evidence. When boat incident happened law enforcement allowed them to walk near the scene and remove the boat themselves. Walked in the hospital to intimidate the witnesses. Steal millions of dollars from people, I mean of course he thought he'd get away with it. Imagine how many towns are run by families like this.
It seemed strange the crime scene nor the house wasn't secured for any length of time. The next day Alec's brother and one of the partners each testified they were at the kennels cleaning up the area. Additionally, Alec's former law partner testified upon going into the feed room he found a piece of Paul's skull still on the floor.
It isn’t law enforcement’s or medical personnel’s responsibility to clean up a crime scene, including body fluids and parts after an investigation is concluded. Basically any evidentiary materials and victims are what is secured.
The baseball size piece of Paul’s skull found in the feed room by Alex’s partner should have been secured by the investigation team.

They only object if it is a leading question, or evidence that has nothing to do with or is not permitted to be mentioned. There have been plenty of those, especially on the States last day of questions.

I've watched a lot of trials and this is the first I've seen where both sides tend to sit bk and say nothing even when the question is leading, they have on occasion but not much.

I saw the defense object more than the prosecutor. I didn't watch all the time. But I thought the prosecutor should have objected much more.

Seems odd to me that the house wasn't secured at the same time as the kennels/shed area. So many people were in the house prior to SLED examining it and housekeeper even moved the towel and shorts by the shower.
At the time remember Alex had called the calvary to the scene before cops ever arrived.
@@kimberley1449 HE didn't - as per testimony. Someone called his brother Randy and his son. Both called lawyers and friends. They felt they had to show up to support him. Well intentioned but still very unhelpful. I think when police kindly but firmly had sent them home (all but the brother and one close friend, and of course Buster) the lawyers and their spouses would have been secretely relieved.
That was deliberate. Alex had thought it through and utterly manipulated the police by having all those people show up. He got all those people over to the house to create that confusion and chaos and to contaminate the crime scene--while the police were trying to work with the evidence and do their jobs. He also put pressure on the police indicating how powerful he was, with all the people coming out in the middle of the night to support him.
But it wasn't enough...the police were smart and they did a FINE job despite the chaos Alex tried to create having a zillion people show up.
THEY NEVER BRING UP WHY MAGGIE DIDN’T GO TO HIS MOTHERS ? THATS WHY SHE WENT TO MOSELLE
Also in his several post murder interviews with detectives Alec NEver admits to insisting that Maggie meet him at Moselle. Blanca and Maggies sister testify that she was only there because Alec pressured her to come to go with him to see his parent.
They can't. Any witnesses testimony to this fact other than Maggie or Alex would be speculation or hear say. Maggie obviously can not testify and I doubt Alex will take the stand.
No it is not why she went there. She did not like to go to see the mother she found it very upsetting.
Maggie’s sister’s testimony is that Alex asked Maggie to come to Moselle and then join him in visiting his FATHER, who’s health had recently been declining.
And then Alex went alone to visit his mother.

I'd have liked to know who put the dogs, Bubba and Grady away. That should have been included in the timeline. Clearly Bubba was still out when the video was taken. It's also interesting that their beds had not been put down, which I believe Maggie would normally have done. If they had still been out during the shooting, there would surely have been bloody paw prints.

The circumstantial evidence is overwhelming towards a guilty verdict, but we shall see how defense twist it! These attorneys rather slimy, so it should get interesting!
Its nice he got a good vacation in before the police set up a questioning. Nice they could arrange their schedule to accommodate him.
I am SHOCKED watching that prosecutor keep touching the evidence without gloves on but makes the witness wear gloves. When he grabbed the shorts, the witness even said “don’t you want gloves?” He is driving me crazy with his pacing, touching things and getting into the witnesses personal space. Someone should have told him to stay at the podium.

The evidence has already been through forensic testing.
The detective is protecting himself as well. His training shows to always wear gloves to not contaminate evidence as well as yourself.

They think he washed up and changed clothes after the killing. He had on different clothes and there was water in places that shouldn’t be to clean himself up and change his clothes.
I think he washed up with the hose first. Brain matter & blood. Kennel guy said it should have been dry. Took a shower. Drove the evidence to his Moms house. Called his brother & his brother took it away from mothers.( He called his Brother 1sr before the Police. He told the caregiver his visit to Moms was 40 minutes but she said "you were only here 15 minutes, 20 minutes tops. Told caregiver he would pay for her wedding (weird). Went back home to Moselle and THEN CALLED THE COPS. It gave him 1 - 1 1/2 hrs to pull this off. When the Cops came he was carrying his shotgun. That was a way to throw them off on gunshot residue, My theory!

Policy and procedure of the department Mr Owens works in dictates the use of gloves at any time handling evidence. This includes court. The Lawyer is not bound by this.

Only the double murder with cell & gps data proving he was there at the time of the murders & video evidence with his voice present with in a few short minutes (4!). The circumstantial evidence is overwhelming at this point & can be an easy conviction! However we won't know for sure until defense is done & jury comes back with their verdict! We have seen killers walk free before!:
That's the one mistake that makes me wonder. Why wouldn't Alex have just admitted to being at the kennels and framing this to have happened when he left. He was the one that decided when the police were called. He did not plan this out well.
Criminals always think they are smarter, & he had generations of experience in manipulating LE!

Even if he told police he was at the kennels they would likely not believe Maggie and Paul were killed while he was gone at his moms because there sudden lack of cell phone activity around 8:49pm would tell the cops they were killed while Alex was there. Alex planned this terribly. He was better off hiring a hitman he could trust who would kill them while he was at his moms. He may have then got away with it.
8 to 10 people in the house Any one of them could have taken the bloody clothes and gun away from the scene when they left. If the police didn't secure the house they probably didn't search people's vehicles when they left.
I think his brothers helped.

If someone else killed his family using the family guns then why would those people take the guns with them? Taking the guns with you is an act from someone who doesn’t want the guns traced or examined. Anyone killing Paul with his own gun went through a bit of effort to do it specifically with those guns and would have left them on scene

Extremely stressful.

Detective made sure to be wearing gloves while touching the clothing then the lawyer comes over and yanks the shorts out of his hands with no gloves on and the detective kinda looks at him and hesitates to hand them over for a second 😂

Okay so what does everybody think about the testimony of the detective when he is discussing Paul's phone and its location when they arrived on the scene. So here is what we know, there is a specific part of the timeline that discusses Paul's video and conversation with his friend regarding his dog tail. Then the conversation stopped. Was it possible that Paul was ambushed when he was on the phone texting? And he dropped the phone when he was shot? And Alex does say in an interview that he was the one who picked up Paul's phone and put it back in his pocket.

I sat on murder jury last summer. All evidence items were in see-through bags so all could inspect without touching actual evidence. Just a thought. These attorneys do seem extravagant in presentation. (Show boat- ing?)
Seems wrong procedure to have people (attorney) handling evidence with bare hands, or even handling at all.
@Susan Bengston Yes. We had all evidence ( bloody hair, clothing, bottles of fluids, etc available during deliberation. ALL sealed with chain of command tape intact. It was local case in our small town, which was brutal enough. So glad we didn't have to suffer through some of these attorneys.
They work from a tiny county in South Carolina. i looked up the murder rates and they've had 3 murders (not including these) since 2006. They're not used to prosecuting this level of crime whereas the same is Harpootlian's specialty. it will be interesting to see how the defense presentation goes (if prosecution ever finishes).
I agree on wondering when the prosecution is going to ever be finished, Lol. The murder rate in our tiny county is extremely small, too.

It is bizarre that every witness and even the lawyers all talk about what high school they went to. Utterly childish but very illustrative of how myopic the culture is in areas like the low country of South Carolina. In the rest of the free world, no adult over the age of 22-23 ever mentions their high school anymore than they mention when they where toilet trained.
This high school disclosure seems to be a local code or clan identification. Utterly weird.

Witness referred multiple times to Alex’s “green shorts”, but they look brown in the courtroom! Is he color blind? Did he observe Alex removing the short and handing them to him? Any way the shorts got switched?
I saw that too. I think the lighting in the courtroom falls far short of what the TV cameras need to photograph accurate coloring. I'm more baffled by the absence of blood. The shoes looked to me like there was enough dirt on the tops to warrant microscopic examination of both shoes, tops and soles and everywhere in between.

This officer may have known to stay off the crime scene until it was photographed and documented but the county officers either sure as hell didn't know or didn't care cuz by the time sled got there several officers had trampolled all over it. This was such a sloppy and unprofessional investigation imo, they all screwed the pooch on this one and I wouldn't be surprised if Alex has a hung jury and gets off because of their screw up and lack of physical evidence. I mean wth they let the housekeeper clean the home the next am and waited from June till Sept to get a full extraction of Alex phone, so messy

Presence of family members at the kennels and in the house made the detective not look around, he didn't want to bother, plus he took AM's word as truth. Columbo should've been there.
