You should do a series in kids clothes. As a dad with a sewing machine and kids that are slim for their height, I’m constantly working on their clothes to make them fit better. Plus, it’s great practice, smaller items and cheaper.

Thank you for validating me for always washing new clothes! I was always considered a weirdo for doing that. Some people don't even wash clothes that they've bought in a thrift store. ARE YOU NUTS?! Who knows where that's been!

One of 'institutionalized' habits I brought with me from the military is washing all new clothes. In bootcamp they would yell, "If it's new, it's dirty!" So you're not alone lol!

When I first started tailoring my shirts (from SD’s tutorials), the first thing I noticed is the Walmart table I bought wasn’t going to work. It’s one of those plastic top tables and my sewing machine vibrated all over the place. A solid foundation is much better. I just do it on the kitchen counter now. But the table is useful to set everything else on. 😅
Also, when measuring, I find it tough to do. Clothes are so stretchy it seems more like an art form lol.
right now I’m trying to get sleeves on short sleeve shirts, get the shoulder and sleeve to look just right. They are never good enough off the rack. It’s not just the length, you have to get the shoulder to stand out. So I’m experimenting with my 6-12 dollar shirts to practice.
I find Walmart, target, and kohl’s all have good cheap shirts to practice with.

I've sat on a 5 gallon beverage container for years because it slides back easier than a legged chair.
About clean clothing, my Sears wedding gown's alteration was cut wrong so there was no fixing it which showed in the pictures and somehow had brown body grunge around the neck!?!
Ok the 5 gallon bucket idea sounds brilliant!! And sorry to hear about your wedding dress, that had to be so frustrating!
