Seems like I’ve been beaten to it, but I wanted to let you know that BH is an unethical company that has been caught selling private patient information, and the overall model of BH is not conducive to improving mental illness or specific conditions. Therapy is meant to be a tool to help patients process information in a healthy and beneficial way, and BH sets up a dynamic where patients can use their therapist as a crutch (having 24hr access to them). The expected long term benefits of therapy aren’t produced when therapy is used in this way. I hope you understand!
Well, I feel enough people have shed light on betterHelp, which I knew nothing about. Edit: I’m very glad you’re finding sponsors because sewing and RUclips are NOT CHEAP, but also glad that the community is helping to clarify areas that people don’t necessarily know about! More relevant to the video, I love the white fabric used for the scrunchie mockup! I actually like how it lost some of the petal definition and became a bit more subtle in design that way. My 2024 is going to be similar to yours where I want to discover and live within my own personal style. I’ve been a “fashion coward” for the last decade and I’m ready to rock the clothing that I ACTUALLY love!
I was pregnant with twins in 1977 and grew out of maternity clothes quickly. I made several tops and dresses with shirred tops, saved a lot of money. Congratulations on your baby❤
I just wanted to add on my personal experince with better help since everyone is talking abt the broader issues with them. It was EXTREMELY expensive and despite me requesting an lgbt friendly therapist, the women was pretty transphobic, constantly misgendering me and basically blaming my issues on my birth gender. She also would NOT STOP forcing me to talk abt my childhood and would give me weird homework but then almoet entirely ignore anything she made me do and i basically got nowhere talking to her. I think she actually even made me worse? Considering how bad my experince was and how expensive it was, i couldnt even find the energy to try another therapist. She then proceeded to basically harasd me for several months afterwards. The whole thing was a very frustrating experience.
I'm sorry to hear about your bad experience, just letting you know that most real life therapists are nice and accepting and even tho it might take a few tries to find someone who actually helps you, it's totally worth it ❤️ I hope you can find someone in your area
With a scalopped or pointed waistline, I do the following. This way I can keep the hem of the garment completely on grain. Pre gather about 4 or 5 rows or gathers, enough so the gathering lines are wider than the depth of the longest scallop. Place gathered skirt pannel on form and cinch gathering threads closed, distribute gthers evenly SYMMETRICALLY, keeping them hem level, now apply the bodice on top. Trace the sewing line of the scalloped edge onto the gathered skirt with removable pen. Remove all garments and gathering stitches, lay the skirt pannel flat, and re-establish a more symetrical and evenly curved sewing line. Trim to allow seam allowance and re-gather along sewing lone and sew to bodice.
I was coming here to say this! I learnt it from watching others make 18th and 19th C dresses with cartridge pleats and pointed bodices. You tack it to the bodice in a straight line at the highest point and then sew along the actual bodice seam line and then pull all your basting and gathering threads, cut the excess only if its interfering with fit and overcaste the edges.
The BINDER with PLASTIC SHEET COVERS!!!! Why has this never occurred to me?! (Now hoping I didn’t toss them all in the trash during some post-moving-space-lack-frustration (I had way too many empty ones……) and with the design picture on it so you know what’s in there!!! 🤯🤯🤯 So good. Where have you been all my life. What’s up YT??!!! Jeez! My current system: giant paper envelope with some cryptic made-sense-at-the-time words and usually a mish mosh of random pattern parts that may or may not be relevant. This is so genius. THANK YOU!!!
I started to sew consistently this May and the only reason it’s going well is that I’ve got 2 little kids and a baby who sloooooows me down. I only have an hour in the day and maybe another hour at night to do sewing so I only can sew a couple a seams or finish a task. This prevents me from rushing and skipping steps. Sure, I takes a week to make anything this way but I have a very high success rate this way. I take time to make toile and to amend the pattern and make another toile. Will make sure I have the right trims, will rip out a seam 2-3 times till it’s right. And it truly truly shows I’m at the end! I adore my stuff and learned to be patient and disciplined in my sewing. So worth it. So yeah, my point is please slow down if you want good results! Sending love from Texas ❤
I love your authenticity about not being perfectly satisfied with the end result! 🩵 I agree that the pointed part of the hips bunched a little weirdly. In the inspo dress, the neckline kinda flares out (scallops? idk the right term 🙈) what if you added a little flare like that at the bottom of the “shirt” part to cover the bunchy part? Idk if that makes sense or if you’re planning on doing that much surgery to it!! Loved watching this journey 💕 Also wanna say your videos are such a comfort to me 🩵 I love seeing your brainstorming, process, your thoughts along the way, the editing, and of course how it all comes together in the end!! I get into little slumps where I don’t have the motivation/inspo to continue my projects and your videos always give me the creative boost I need :)
Thank you for this. I don’t know why it never occurred to me that you can shir then cut versus cut then shir. I love when I learn new sewing things as it doesn’t happen that often anymore.
GURL thank you for the detailed walk through on shirring. I have a similar style thrift upcycle I’ve been putting off and this has given me so much confidence to get started
"The Fa family!" Love the mulan reference, that was amazing 😂 I actually really love the result! The scrunchie is adorable, and I don't think the uneven hem is that noticeable! That blue really suits you btw :) thanks for the video ❤
@@kx175 yes every single company does that but better help is considered a health service and I’m pretty sure that’s again HIPPA. The FTC actually sued better help for it.
That's the least of their problems they are zionist's collaborators in the middle of a genocide but not a single RUclipsr seems to gaf and all pretend there's nothing going on
The shirring is so impressive holy sh*t !!! I see what you mean about the waist/hip being slightly off but I think it’ll be really cool to see how it adapts and falls on your body as it changes size/shape. I love the end result 💐
Wendy, you truly are a star! Awesome video and editing. I learn so much hearing your thought processes while you design, sew, and tweak projects. And your honesty; thank you sharing some of your personal goals for 2024 and reminding us to take care of ourselves. LOVE the dress!
downright pleasure to see you actively doing your thing, each and every time. much success to you, your loved ones, your channel, your sewing projects, your team. go girl!
I really appreciate you showing the process of this! Sometimes I’ll see a Timelapse of projects like this and it makes me feel like I have to finish everything in one day. It’s nice to see you take it slow and enjoy the process 😊
So I've always used the bobbin winder on my sewing machine, but instead of putting it through the small tension disk I just control the tension with my hand. I've never had any issues doing it this way and it saves so much time. The dress is beautiful though and it looks comfortable.
Your style is what makes your videos so special and authentic! I recently found you and I find your videos so relaxing and I love the process to the final reveal. Also congratulations on your pregnancy! 🤍🤍🤍
That with the uneven hemline is pretty normal, thats why the hem is usually done last. There is a tool to measure and mark the hemline the exact same distance from the bottom (while you wearing it) to ensure an even hemline. I love the scrunchy so much, btw!!! And the shirring looks so good, too!!
I love your thinking process and you show what works and what doesn’t. Makes me feel okay with my multiple attempts to fix the garment I’m working on and the frustration that I feel ❤❤❤
I think it's funny that while I absolutely do NOT share your sense of style, I do still so genuinely enjoy watching your videos. I love the art of creation, and recreation as you've done here. Plus your voice is just so chill, I hate how so many people on YT feel the need to yell all the time.
Wendy as someone who gets so overstimulated by most content creators energies lately you're a breath of fresh air. You don't use the influencer tone or cut in a bunch of funny sounds (those videos can make me laugh, don't get me wrong) making the video just too much to watch. I just got a sewing machine too so I'll be following your videos for a while!!
Ooo I'd love to see the hair bow one day, that one's very adorable and girly. I love watching people problem solve pattern fitting, I'm excited to one day see the scalloped waistline be conquered!
thanks for opening the video how you did! i have recently changed my work roster so i have WAY more time to sew + create. i’m feeling frustrated because i somehow take at least 8-12 hours on the most simple garment. but you’re so right, it’s worth getting to know yourself and marinate on your process
Never catch videos within the first 10 minutes, but another great video! Your voice is so soothing, and watching you get thru projects help me push thru my own!
Hey wendy! I think it'd be really cool to turn this dress into a two-piece set! The top can 'fall' over the skirt, with your skirt gathered in your natural waist, like those pointed waistline dresses usually seen on corsets and things like that. I was thinking that the 'problem' might be that the shirring is pulled down by the weight of the skirt, creating a bit of a boxier fit in the bodice. And then the waistline gathers are accentuating that boxiness a bit. That being said, I absolkutely loved watching this video, as ALWAYS
This was a great vid, Wendy! Thanks for being real about frustration. I wanted to tell you that I use permanent Sharpie markers to color match white elastic; it's easy and looks great. Also for your consideration: to avoid wonky gathers at the waist, you could consider gathering BETWEEN the scallop points. That way, the skirt would lie flatter/smoother and the overall skirt silhouette would be less lumpy. Visualize the skirt gathered on the curve up and smooth (no gathers) when the bodice edge points down.
I love the idea of using shirring as a way to have clothes grow with your body! Leena Norms has a really good video about making clothing more sustainable this way, in case you want more ideas of how to make clothes that fit you at multiple sizes!
Would you consider sharing the pattern you used to make the flower scrunchie?? It seems like such a good project for semi beginners/intermediate sewers to do and a way to use up scrap fabric.
I have some ideas for a scalloped waistline! i did this with a pleated skirt not a gathered one, but basically i pleated the fabric and basted it into place. then i turned the seam allowance on the bodice under, basted, placed it over the pre-pleated skirt, basted the pieces together, and then topstitched it on. obviously it would have to be adapted a bit for gathering, but i think the issue is that the gathering around the pointed parts of the bodice is bunching up too much, perhaps the spots in the skirt where the points lie would be less gathered or almost not at all. just some ideas!
You are so creative, I love what you did with this dress❤ You look so comfortable yet very chic & I also love how you layered everything. Congratulations on your blessing ❤
I think you could dye the dress to fix the 'white elastic showing' problem. Though I don’t know much about dyeing, i think it could work and save you a lot of effort. Loveeee the scrunchie
Love Sandy Liang, Im here coz the edited eden skirt on my wishlist got sold out while in my shopping basket, I hhunted all over the net and finally it dawned on me. - i just need wool fabric and a pattern, and a sewing machine.
I love this! I've been wanting to make this dress for myself, but wasn't ready to workshop it on my own. I have always thought that you are a wonderful role model. You sharing your goal of accepting yourself adds to that.
I wonder if there is too much fabric at the scalloped waist, or at least at the places where it is bunching up. TBF I am completely new to the scalloped waist thing, I am trying to understand how it works. I love the idea though! I still have a idea in my mind for some fun summer top with a shirred back. Although I am not certain if I have enough fabric left of what I was planning.
I am new to your station as of today March 7th 2024,. I saw a rerun of you on Stitched and so fell in love with your talent and personality,. Looking forward to learning from you!
Oooh that big long bow!!!! I must make one for myself, so pretty The dress looked nice, with a little wearing time it will take better shape in you. Really like the sides
You can pattern your skirt's waistline by tracing the bodice's waist and then slashing and spreading for your gathers/pleats! Then you'll have the peaks but theyll be stretched to give you enough room to gather, and the skirt will hang downwards better (you can also slap a line of stitching an inch or two below the peaks on the skirt before inserting to keep your gathers falling towards the floor, if that makes sense, instead of perpendicular to the seam allowance of the skirt). Could even spread the front scallop more so you have more volume there for your bump! But also, if its a dress you want to wear through and after pregnancy, then an uneven hem might be part of the look, since if you compensate for your bump in the front itll be long later, or if you dont itll raise up in the front during pregnancy :) So maybe the uneven hem is part of it!
I’m watching at 10pm at night next to my husband who just turned me down to start sewing, so I’m currently pulling all the tears back and wanted to watch your channel to calm me and when the mulan insert came up it caught me so off guard I laughed out loud and scared him. 😅
Please, I love it when you stick to normal clothing with unusual accents or pops that if you wanted you could always remove. THOSE are the most inspiring to me personally. Well, those & your designer dupps! 🤗💕 Hope You, Poppa & Marla are doing great outside of the Tubes here too.
please don't work with Better Help Wendy. you're sweet please don't give evil harmful corporate a space on your platform. they leaked information of vulnerable people and other heinous crap
I’ve never heard of that grand Sandy Liang!! But it just looks like a much more expensive Damson Madder✨ I’m definitely into the idea of a lot more shirred clothing as I’m constantly fluctuating in my weight!! Would love to try some of these myself x
when i was working (apprentice) at an opera in the sewing apartment i had to make plans for each project and put in how many hours i thought i would use, and then time myself. More than once i put in around 16h and legit spent 100+ hours more than that. it's hardddd to know!

omg pleaseeee do this with the Christy Dawn katrina dress! would love to see!
This dress is so cute and the colour works so well for you. I think it looks good as it is. Beautiful.
Would you consider sharing the pattern you used to make the flower scrunchie?? It seems like such a good project for semi beginners/intermediate sewers to do and a way to use up scrap fabric.
I love how calming and light you and your videos are ! Makes my day better :) I wish you the best and lots of hapiness with the baby

Yes, you can color your elastic with a Sharpie marker. They are permanent and will work on fabric.
Omg love the organising of the patterns! Also love your focus on sewing for you as well!
You're an amazing seamstress. I love listening to you work things out in your head. 🎉

I love the scrunchie!!! Adorable!!!
How about using the ‘slash and spread’ technique for scalloped waist line? 19:03
loved seeing the process, it's a big inspiration for some fabric I've had sitting around I can finally put to use :D
She is so calming 😊
Love the dress and the flower scrunchie.

I’m pregnant too! Yay! Now I can mooch off of your sewing ideas ♥️
their prices are out of control... glad you can give us another perfect video!
spectacular video Wendy these designs were gorgeous and inspiring, congratulations on your blooming family :)
That dress looks so beautiful!
that looked like a lot of ton of work, great job!
Would taking the gathering off the hip areas make it lay flat and not bunch out ? I think that would give a more streamlined silhouette
Oooh that big long bow!!!! I must make one for myself, so pretty
The dress looked nice, with a little wearing time it will take better shape in you. Really like the sides
you are doing incredible ! i enjoyed this video!
Congratulations on your new baby🎉🍀✨

I love this dress! specialy because after you give birth you can still style it!
girl not betterhelp 😢😢
Please, I love it when you stick to normal clothing with unusual accents or pops that if you wanted you could always remove. THOSE are the most inspiring to me personally. Well, those & your designer dupps! 🤗💕 Hope You, Poppa & Marla are doing great outside of the Tubes here too.
What a charming channel and thoroughly charming host. Glad I found you. Eileen

I love them. Both scrunchie & the dress. It look so good 😍😍😍😍
I’ve never heard of that grand Sandy Liang!! But it just looks like a much more expensive Damson Madder✨
I’m definitely into the idea of a lot more shirred clothing as I’m constantly fluctuating in my weight!! Would love to try some of these myself x
Ok, i LOVE your pattern organizing system. Mine is just a box with the pattern pieces paperclipped together 😅
when i was working (apprentice) at an opera in the sewing apartment i had to make plans for each project and put in how many hours i thought i would use, and then time myself. More than once i put in around 16h and legit spent 100+ hours more than that. it's hardddd to know!
I love the dress! Don't be so hard on yourself 💗
