Bought A New Sewing Machine? Here's A Beginner’s Checklist

  • Now that you have your sewing machine set up you want to make sure to do a few more things before you start tailoring your clothes.
    The first one is to make sure you have space for it. I totally get it, I have no space for mine at all, and I kinda envy people who have a table or a desk and a dedicated set up for it. My style is much more run and gun, and it works. But do your best to find space around your house, you will thank me later.
    The next thing you want to do is to get your clothes together and make sure everything is ironed first! I can't tell you how many times I dropped the ball on this step. It's fine if you are tailoring one shirt, but what's going to happen is you're gonna go on a binge and tailor like 5 t shirts. Well add an hour to that time because you gotta iron everything first...
    The last thing is to check your settings first! You most likely sewed a zigzag stitch the last time that you tailored but this time you're going to start with a straight stitch. Make sure it's set to that first, otherwise you're gonna be in some trouble...

    I'm going to give you a life.changing tip: when you iron, turn your shirts inside out and iron the inside - you can make the seams so much more flush when you are measuring and if you mistakenly burn your.garment it won't be nearly as noticeable. As a bonus you can also go over the back of your buttons no problemo.

    Man, i finally took my machine and started tailoring my clothes thanks to you! I saw your videos some time ago, but i always had problems setting up my machine (cause the bobin is located differently) but finally figured it out and thanks also tonthe quarentine i have tailored a bunch of shirt, tees and polos that i didn't use cause they were al square and ugly, but now they look super sexy. So thanks my dude, you videos are really helpful, short and to the point and also funny to watch, so keep it up. Peace!

    • @95TurboSol
      @95TurboSol 4 года назад

      Personally when I'm wanting to be very accurate (like on sleeve ends or the bottom of shirts) I chalk a guideline then iron it how it will be sewed, this has been a life changer on hems and such, so much easier to sew when it holds itself in place.

      That’s a pretty solid machine that you have. Have you checked the stitch tension at all? That’s usually the culprit when it comes to loose stitches.
