I started teaching myself to sew about 3 years ago, by watching RUclips videos. Your videos by far are the most informative and entertaining. I'm still learning tidbits from you - to the point that I have enough confidence to start tailoring my husband's and son's clothes. 👍
“You’re going to develop an addiction”. I think you’re right… I started off with hemming the pants leg of one pants. Im planning to do all my pants now. Right now I’m tailoring the width of the pants’ legs. And I’ve messed up and I don’t even care, im starting all over. Honestly this is a hobby (and necessity) I might enjoy a lot- and save me a lot of time and money from tailors. As a short, chubby guy that never finds clothes that fits me, thank you sir!
Hi, I'm in Canada. I realized my wife is never going to sew anything for me, so I figured I'll learn how to do it myself. So far, love your videos and the advice you offer. Thanks.
Thanks for taking the time to make these videos and share with the world. Excellent job with the editing too! I'm sure you spent hours upon hours just to post one of your videos. Your efforts are recognized and appreciated. I received a very old feather light Singer sewing machine that didn't work. I took it apart and fixed it, but didn't know how to use it. At 53 years old having never sewn before, I decided to try to tailor my own dress shirts. I never had a shirt or pants tailored. I'm am amazed at how much better I feel wearing a shirt that actually fits! Thanks to you! I am now watching all of your videos to learn to tailor my pants as well. Your videos have given me confidence to try it on my own. Thank you again. Please post more videos! You have a great and infectious video personality.
That part about the take up lever. Yeah. Just learned about tha today. Literally took the bobbin and the whole bottom of the machine apart like 10 times.
I have done many of these. Especially the removing the thread to change colors. The vintage machines rock! I never knew about turning the dial the wrong way. Sometimes my videos go over 10 minutes, reason why is I see a lot of new sewist say that the videos aren't in detail enough. They show a and c, but not b.
Love your channel! Subscribed! Really excited you got this machine, my friend just got this machine so I can help her hem some jeans and other things, so I'm trying to learn it, it will be awesome to learn from you my man, thanks for all the hard work and your time, it's greatly appreciated.
I worked in a jail Tailor shop, Tie your thread to the thread youre changing, pull it right through the needle. No need to re-thread a sewing machine ever. More important when using 4 spools on a serger with more moving arms and such, Still a time saver.
Question: What are some of the sewing machines you would advise a beginner to get? I am overwhelmed with the amount of options available. And all the accessories, etc... I think some of the brands we have here are Singer, Brother and Juki. Thank you for the awesome videos. Looking forward to the next one. Stay safe.
Hi, another tip on buying machines, want a new one, keep track of the price on new machines, approximately every decade or so companies change models, price goes real low as they get to end of run, around 89 or 90 I bought my 1st machine after a decade of sewing by hand. I got a singer, semi industrial for $300, was originally a $1200 machine, a few years back I treated me to the nerve racking process of facing a serger, call singer after watching price drop on a 5 thread & asked if the machine was close to the end of run, paid $430 + TX for a machine that a year eariler had a more Tham $1200 price tag,.. patients & time people 😀
Jo-Ann's is open here in Southern California. I get most of my sewing things at Walmart but Jo-Ann's had a better selection of needles and I went there for my needles. By the way, I was visiting my daughter the other day and she asked me to repair a skirt she had which had a hole in the seam. My machine happen to have the correct black thread already loaded in it from when I tapered some jeans. In a few minutes I had the whole repaired. She asked me how long it took me to fix it. I told her that once I had everything set up, maybe 4 seconds. It actually took a bit longer because I put an extra straight Stitch and to make sure it wouldn't come apart. MD out!!
My guy, I was a sewing zealot when I was in the Marines. Uniforms weren't cheap, so we used old ones to patch new-ish ones with hand stitched needled and thread. How I wished I could have used a sewing machine, but those don't travel well. The point I'm trying to make is that if you couldn't sew as a Marine, you got made fun of! After binge watching 8 of your videos, I'm about to move my wife's sewing machine out tot the garage to put next to my power tools and go crazy on the 20+ dress shirts that don't fit me well!
"Don't be cheap" I dunno brother.... Dad Sews is always hawking 'em sweet Juki machines... 'til i found out i could buy 5 Singer HDs for the cost of one Juki... the HD is my second sewing machine and my first brand new one (ex-wife stole my 20y.o. Singer Confidence) so, maybe i'll get the expensive fancy machine next...
Hey SD, would you consider changing "hacks/tricks" for straight up tips or just advice? Feels a bit disingenuous (click baity) to call these hacks/tricks. Either way, I appreciate the fact that you tend to mega-newbies with your videos. I got started before watching your stuff, but your videos have made a big impact on the way I feel about sewing. Also, will you consider teaching how to make things from scratch? Could start with a cotton singlet or pyjama pants
I'm glad you're back dude. I can't wait to see you succeed. Watch some GaryVee if you haven't been! It'll inspire you and give you a lot of strategies to be more successful on RUclips and other platforms. Get on TikTok!

Hey thanks for this awesome comment! I remember trying to learn and watching the same boring videos you did lol...

Don't worry, you'll mess up ALL THE TIME, it's a part of the process! You learn from it each time though so its all good!
"How many people all over the world watched their videos?" Loved that SD!

That part about the take up lever. Yeah. Just learned about tha today. Literally took the bobbin and the whole bottom of the machine apart like 10 times.
Thanks for showing your thought process. Teaching and learning are the same thing, and you demonstrate that perfectly.
My pleasure!
Yep. Had the take up lever problem! Thought it was the machine. Nope just operator error! Thanks!
Sister in-law giving me a machine! Can’t wait to get rolling on some shirts. Thanks D

I use all your info thanks
Watching this in 2021 and you're up to 120k subs! Keep it going man! Not new to sewing but new to tailoring, i love your content!
Awesome! Thank you!
Tailoring binges are real lol. I spent 8 hours one saturday tailoring like 8 pairs of jeans and like 2 dress shirts.
Ugh the binges are getting the best of me as well...

Any of those three will make you happy, especially Brother
@@StylishDTailors Thank you so much. I will get myself a basic Brother sewing machine. 😁

I prefer to grab the thread just above the eye when removing. Less chance of bending the needle. (though mainly because it is a a lot easier to grab)
@stylish D, would you ever dart the backs of T shirts? Is that OTT?
Nope, it would look super funny if you darted a t-shirt!
@@StylishDTailors even polo t shirts?
@@StylishDTailors thanks for the reply. From 🇬🇧
I was about to say that you’re overexposed in some of the video lol. So do I need to change the needle if I’m just practicing?
I'm overexposed in all of my videos unfortunately...
And yes change it regularly still
Stylish D you can’t fix the over exposure? Alright ima go change my needle rn haha
No I totally can, but I'm not a fan of how I look
I just bought the strong and tough and a lot of reviews say it has trouble with denim. I laughed.
I wonder if people are using the wrong needles

@@StylishDTailors Love the new title. You marketing beast!
Anyone younger than me tailoring clothes ?I am 16
Thanks SD
Kind of used to "dueces"😁
@Karla KirkpatrickI don't do it for earning , I just like to be well dressed and that requires the clothes to be well fitted.
I’m cheap, what do I supposed to do? 😂
Be not cheap? Nah, forget that right?!

I don't like Jo-Ann's either. Can't put my finger on why, but I think the workers have a sour attitude.
That's exactly what it is, they have a sour attitude...
I don't know if you realized it but you took about 2 minutes and 42 second explaining why your video is over 10 minutes.
I did realize it. Did you not get why I did that? I didn't want my video to be anywhere near the 10 minute mark.
