This is actually super helpful. I just started tailoring things by hand since we're all on lockdown and I didnt have anything to do. Honestly you were a big part of why I started so thank you
I am a girl, but this is super useful! I've been trying not to overdo the skinny stuff and I am just starting to wear regular clothes and not gym clothes!
taylors chalk is for tracing patterns onto fabric to cut out, it would also come in handy for drawing out dart placement, its a tool for accuracy, you still always want to use pins to keep your fabric in place especially if its a stretchy drape fabric that will move a lot when you sew it. Pins also help me keep my seam where it is supposed to be rather than too far into the seam allowance or too far past it.
Yes my favorite use for tailor's chalk (or a tailor's pencil, in my case) is to draw very nice straight lines to sew on. It's so much better than trying to connect the dots between pins. But still use those pins. They make a difference.
Lol..Much love and respect I'm of course not a dude but your THE first person I've been able to follow and not boring and not snotty like alot of females in the industry..kuddos..thank u
Bro! Finally figured out my sewing machine and my shirts are all borderline tailored/too tight. Def going to be a bit more cautious as I now tailor every item of clothing i own!
Hey another video suggestion, do a complete series of videos on all of your machines. I have moms, I couldn't find any videos anywhere to tell me how to use it. Fortunately I found the manual under the accessories. Also can you take a shirt that you tailored to small, and increase the size. Specifically in the shoulders. Thanks
I just got put on to these videos. LOVE THEM! Did I miss it? Did you mention the type of machine you recommend for beginner? Also something that could be good for doing denim material every now and again?
For the first couple of shirts I cut, I used some elementary school scissors I found in my room from like a decade ago , then I quickly realized that I needed bigger and better scissors
For folks that have the most basic machines or some vintage ones with only straight and zig-zag stitches, those tips are useful. But I would encourage everybodyyyy to buy that cheap 20-32 piece presser foot pack on Amazon and play around with it. The overcast foot, knit foot, roller foot and zipper feet alone are 100% worth it. Once you get comfortable enough to play with your tshirts and knit fabrics, those feet are so time saving.
Is there a reason you couldn't run a zigzag stitch beside your straight stitch, then trim off the unwanted material after? (Roughly 1/8" beside the zigzag) Would it hold together as well as an overlap zigzag on the seam allowance?
@@StylishDTailors Hi D ! I'm fairly new and without any sewing machine at the moment. I watched dress shirt, dress pants and suit jacket videos. I'm thinking to buy a ''guinea pig' from my local charity shop and experiment on that, as I have a fair amount of clothes which don't fit after I lost quite a few kilos. I hope you have a fab weekend.
But, but... check this out.. You are working with HD video stuff right? Lint Roller is a must, that black shirt looks like you been rolling around with a natural blonde side chick. Who happens to have really short hair.
Alpha M once mentioned about the difference between tailored and tight. He referred to the latter as looking like a sausage. Concerning not using proper tools, I have a confession that I use extra fine point permanent markers whenever I make stuff. I accidentally measured wrong when I was sewing an ascot, and had a line on my work (which meant me having to keep the "bad copy" instead of sell it. And part of me still hasn't learned, being I still use markers whenever I am making something. Hope this part made someone laugh.)

See, I told you to share your mistakes. Perfect, you just saved people a lot of stress!!! Ps I have done some of these too.
What about folding the inside edges in on themselves then putting in a straight stitch?
Thanks for making this video. All your videos brighten my day 😁

Man, I love your attitude and style!
Greetings from Munich, Tom.
Thanks Tom!

Don't think I mentioned it but anything you can find used on FB marketplace will do you well!
For the first couple of shirts I cut, I used some elementary school scissors I found in my room from like a decade ago , then I quickly realized that I needed bigger and better scissors
I don't think it's too late to put a zig-zag stitch on your favorite ON jeans man. Also, pinking shears can be your best friend.
I second the pinking shears. That was the go to before sewing machines had the zig zag capability.
Alright so what’s the best way to buy thread? As in options. Because I have a few shirts that I can tailor but they’re all different colors.
Just start out buying Walmart thread.
Stylish D alright cool. I was looking on amazon and Joanne’s has an hour wait everyday. Thanks
You could do an overcast stitch instead of a zigzag stitch on the edge too and it would hold up even better.
True, solid tip!

Would it hold together as well as an overlap zigzag on the seam allowance?
Because you want the zigzag to overlap the very edge of the raw edge. If you cut it it would just be close to the edge.
Thank you very much for your videos!
Glad you like them! Which one is your favorite so far?

Awesome to hear! Definitely start out with a cheap used machine. You should be able to find one on FB marketplace for like $40!
@@StylishDTailors Defo! Thank you for the tips!
Thanks SD!
Lol this video keep me laughing because I use to make the same mistakes.🤣🤣🙏🏿
And we're not alone either!

So, what is stopping you from adding a zigzag stitch to your favorite pair of pants now? It's not too late....
They've frayed too much and the seam allowance is too small.
Do you have a cat?
Sure do! She's sitting right here!
No you didn’t . Some of it was made up.
What was?
