Freewell is back with another new product for the DJI Mavic 2 Pro. This time around, they created the first Variable ND Filter for drones. This filters allows you to adjust the filter strengths, simply by rotating the ring on the filter. Rotating this ring will adjust the darkness of the filter, allowing you to adjust your Mavic 2 Pro exposure to meet your setting needs. In this video, I show you how to achieve natural motion blur in video using the variable nd filters and the DJI Mavic 2 Pro.

From Tiffen (filter experts for decades): "Variable ND filter operates on the same principle as a Circular Polarizer rotate until you reach your desired effect and shoot. It allows you to have continuous control over the amount of light coming through your lens in an approximate range of 2 (ND 0.6) to 8 (ND 2.4) stops while maintaining the integrity of your image. Note: The evenly spaced indexing marks between MIN and MAX do not represent calibrated stops. They are for reference only, to be used as a density bench-mark to return to a previous setting."
The difference between those in a three filter set would most likely be different density ranges.

Thanks for sharing friend, nice work... This is a nice upgrade for Freewell. Recently I did some research on adjustable ND filters for the a6400 and saw a lot of discussion about uneven brightness across the image and in some cases even a large "X" gets darkened in the image. Apparently it is a side effect of polarizer based ND filters such as this one. Did you notice ant artifacts at different levels? Good Flying!

Until they make built an electronic ND filter it's pretty tough to use "just one" ND filter for a drone. For majority of aerial jobs, you honestly don't have time to bring your drone back everytime to put on a new filter. Similarly, if you have are working at a place that has clouds rolling in it makes the process even worse.
    Great information though.
