If you are new here, hey! I am Natalie - follower of Jesus, wife to my childhood best friend, and homeschool mama to three.
I’m also the ORIGINAL creator of “MESSY TO MINIMAL”- a widely-popular extreme decluttering and home organization series that I started in 2020. In the course of about a year, my husband and I worked to simplify our home and lifestyle. With our first pass through our home we got rid of over 80% of our possessions. Nowadays, we’re not keeping track of the number, because decluttering is more of a maintenance task to invest into the health and simplicity of our home and family life moving forward!
I continue to share this series as a way to completely DEMOLISH the idea that decluttering is a one and done activity (especially in a home with young children!) I am here to give you non-judgmental encouragement and some gentle motivation for your own decluttering and simple-living journey!

👒 OMG! YOU are just amazing! I'm a almost 70 year old and love watching you do the declutter because it helps me declutter my life! Agter all these years of "collecting things in the kitchen or closet" I've gotten to the point of why do I keep this. A few years ago I finally got rid of an outfit I've had since 7th grade ( it still fit 😊) but never wore it after retirement.

I’ve felt a bit disconnected from your channel for a while because your home size has grown so you’ve been able to have space for more things. But seeing you being aggressively more minimal is so inspiring. Thank you for encouraging me to make the hard decisions especially on things I used to love but don’t use anymore. It really helps your style to shine!

Minimalism has been even more important to me in our new home! We’ve worked SOOOOO hard, made a ton of sacrifices and saved for so long to be in this place. I want to honor the space and have it function to its best ability!

3 years ago, when I was postpartum with our 4th baby (and feeling really bad about my body) I started wearing dresses! I also can’t believe how much I adore them! 3 years later, body “back,” I prefer them over pants almost every day and I’ve never felt more feminine!

@@malloryanthony8921 definitely lean into that! I’m not about being unhealthy, or feeling like one needs to hide/ cover their body, but at a time I wanted to feel beautiful and knew there wasn’t a quick fix… so I decided to stop hating parts of myself that didn’t fit into clothes and learned through trial and error which style dresses I actually love (flowy midi dresses were what flatters me). I love clothing and style so it was fun to change up!

I wear dresses, or skirt outfits, everyday, it’s hard to beat their ease and comfort. They feels so feminine and swishy. I’ve always worn them because at age 63, I have yet to find any jeans or trousers that fit. I never once wore pants to my office during my career.🙂

We have been on the decluttering journey since 2020. I grew up with a mom who has a hoarding issue, so when we moved into our home in 2019 , we immediately got tins of stuff for her. I was very overwhelmed. I found your channel and the motivation and advice is just what I was looking for.
Thank you for this I had weight loss surgery in February 2022 to help combat some severe pcos issues I was facing. Thank you for saying that your "work clothing" is it's own mini capsule. YES! Now that makes sense!! I did that on my own because I couldn't imagine wearing my "capsule wardrobe" around the house, doing my every day chores. My closet is really paired down and I already see the benefits. I still need to tweek it and fill in blanks. I'm still watching and leaning. Since I decluttered the things that don't work for me anymore, all of sudden I have some easy grab outfits that were buried in stuff I was just "hanging on to". That was a pleasant surprise.

I must say that your videos are so inspiring! It is so nice to watch as you continue to encourage and reinforce the importance of really living and being present in the current season of life. What may have worked last year, may not work this year and that's ok. To only keep what works now really can be freeing. I'm continually peeling back the layers and getting rid of stuff. I know that I have a ways to go. What's also reassuring is that I remind myself that even if I'm not ready to get ready of "everything" right now, I look at it and say, "maybe the next time through". I've even just been sitting there and a thought will happen of something to declutter - and I get up and go get it (sometimes I have to move stuff to get to it, but I just want it gone)...makes me laugh...blessings and thank you! ❣

I have church life, professional working, as well as work from home life as a hybrid employee. So, I am struggling because I feel like I have multiple dress codes! However, simplifying to a simple code of style and timeless instead of trendy style is really helping.

I’ve been subconsciously transitioning into wearing significantly more black in my wardrobe. I really appreciate a beautiful patterned print and love blues and greens and some pinks, but, for whatever reason I’ve felt sooo good and put together in black lately. I’ve always aspired to a “small but mighty” wardrobe where I absolutely love every single piece I own. It’s been pretty challenging with being in a season of life where I’m constantly cycling between pregnancy, postpartum and a couple various sizes requiring nursing access, but I’m slowly getting there and I’ve appreciated having you along the way for company and support. Thank you so much! 🥰

And I agree on the old navy linen. The newer is okay but was definitely a step down.

I appreciate how you separated your work in the garden clothes and other clothes. That has been a challenge to me. I am going to follow your example in an effort to make more sense of my wardrobe. At this point when I wear something that is not ready for the wash, I hang it to the left, and choose the next top from the right. Eventually I’ll make it through the items. Pants are blue denim and tan, everything goes together. I save white and a nicer pair of tan and black for special. I love dresses, pockets are a plus. I definitely need to downsize my collection. It’s not out of control, mostly needs organizing, so I know what I can part with. Thank you for your help. My season of life is single, 76 yo, artist, and volunteer.

My kids love watching your videos with me. My 7 year old also wanted me to tell you she has a cousin named Natalie!
Definitely know that movie from your shirt! The Parent Trap was one of my very favorite movies ever!

👒 I also wear mostly black, white and little grey with accents of denim shirt/jackets. I have 2 black heavier knit dresses: one shirt sleeve and one long sleeve. Limited colors makes it so much easier to dress and accessorize.

Thank you for this video, this resonates with the wardrobe I hope to have in future. Start with the favourites seems a good way to go. I keep decluttering, but need to get rid of more, as Im running out of storage space. Ive just found your channel so will watch your other wardrobe video(s). This seems a little bit like a 10 item wardrobe, which is good when you can get to that stage. I really liked the fact that you started with the clothes in your laundry basket, as to what you wear (and wash) the most.

I've been going through my clothes for like a week now and this is the most progress I have made. I'm really trying to minimize it to just our closet and one aspiration/seasonal/maternity tote that I can put aside. We just had our first baby on April 8th and I have to get rid of some to make space for the nursery. I love watching your videos, the always get me motivated! 😅👒

Watching your messy to minimal series has been so inspirational. I don’t even consider myself to have THAT much stuff, but I’m thinking of it differently now. And I’m definitely feeling motivated to go through my closet lol. What are your thoughts on holding onto special occasion dresses? I have a dress I wore once and may never wear again but I really love it don’t want to have to buy another if the situation arises. I just feel strange hanging on to something for a “what if” scenario.
Thank you for sharing with us! Your videos are so lovely and uplifting ❤

I wear mostly silk because of my hypersensitive skin, it’s the only fabric that doesn’t cause allergic rashes. I especially love knitted silk, it’s a dream to wear. In the hottest part of summer, I wear linen dresses because I can overheat in silk when it’s really hot, but that’s a menopause thing that I hope will go away eventually. I don’t wear silk to look fancy, I wear it for its pure comfort. It’s also really easy-care.

Great video! I love dresses as well. Wool& and Woolx both have beautiful and comfortable dresses that may work for you. Wool is very comfortable for me just like silk. For Rothy’s, these may shrink slightly over time. I’ve had luck washing on cold and air drying. For pairs that are a bit small, I use shoe trees to slightly stretch stretch them when drying. 😊
