- It's time to give our school room/ family office a makeover! In this House To Home episode I'm flying solo while Weston is out of town. I've got just a few days to TRANSFORM this 90s-Style breakfast nook into the Homeschool room we've been dreaming about! I'm sharing a DIY wall treatment, a scratch-made open shelving build as well as setting up a computer desk.

Love how it turned out! With everything being white a black desk is a good accent and indeed easier to clean. I think the bulletin board looks much better on the side of the cabinets :) Good choice.

The shelves are the one DIY of yours that I've duplicated in my home. I made some years ago for my bedroom and now I'm planning to make some for my first babies nursery.
This looks great! I feel like it needs a rug. That would bring up the cozy even more!

I’ve been watching your videos since you started and I was only 14. Now I’m 22 and have two babies of my own (who aren’t twins but they’re only a year apart so it feels like they are sometimes 😅) and absolutely love watching your videos for inspiration when keeping my house and taking care of our space. You make me feel like I have company over which is so nice because this season of tiny babies can be very isolating and lonely. Thank you for what you do! 🤍

I loved when you were unpacking the desk and one of your boys was just playing ( laying in the box) and it looked like he was using the plastic like a blanket…even at that age…kids don’t need a lot..just give them a good box. Good job raising children who can actually play creativity.
It looks so good! Perhaps a rug under the hanging light with smaller, cozy chairs or beanbags for a reading area?
We like to keep that space open. It's really where our kids spend a lot of the floor play time!

One tip for the monitor: Try to have it facing the kids directly (maybe it was only angled for the after shot?) At one of our recent teacher-safety training sessions we were reminded that it is better to have the norm be straight on instead of twisted/angled. (I don't think that made a lot of sense..hopefully the example will?)
e.g. If you work on the computrer a lot, have the monitor, keyboard front and center so that you aren't constantly in a swiveled/pivoted position. It's a lot easier on joints/muscles, etc. to have symmetrical and not asymmetrial positioning. Hope that makes sense. 💜Thanks for a fun video! Looks great!

Everything looks amazing! I'm moving to the Pacific NORTHwest in 2 weeks and I couldn't be more excited to start personalizing our new house. God has paved the way for us to finally move to Alaska and we are so grateful! We are exiting the most stressful year of my family's life, this fresh start is everything we need 🎉 We completely renod our last house, so I'm anxious to tackle this one. Its looks amazing! My ocd wishes the big drawer was on the floor and the one below it goes on top, so just switching them, but i definitely like them in that corner!
Visually, I think it would make more sense, but that drawer is used for things that only I as the adult/teacher access so it’s on the top to allow easy access for the kids’ sets of drawers to be on the bottom.

I can’t believe you have been in this home for two years. I remember when you announced you were moving. Thanks for sharing your journey. I’m not where I had hoped to be but hit a stumbling block. I have two more surgeries this year. I’m hoping to be back on track by Christmas. Maybe 2024 will be my year. God is good. He has provided along the way. I’m anxious to get back at it.

The school room looks awesome!! I think you did a great job on the wall! Stacking the ikea units seems to save a bunch of space and was a good choice (I would recommend anchoring them to the wall though for safety). Can’t wait to see how you grow into this school room over the next few years!

Oh Natalie you did a wonderful job decorating the school room! You said it isn't minimal but I think your right it isn't cluttered. You need alot of things to teach with. I'm so glad the cabinets fit in the corner they look nice there.

Love the shelves (I remember you doing the other ones and I actually took the inspiration and did some for our house 2 years ago!) 😍 I agree with some of the other comments that a cute rug and round table and chairs would be cute in the centre or some chairs like bean bag style that can be moved around for the kiddos to use! Flexible seating style ☺️💕
