The organ ruined alot of ozzys music. Cheese. It had its place in certain songs at certain times but this is complete overkill. Took away from the bite of Randy’s attack. Glad he took it out of the mix for the tribute album
Randy died 11 days before I was going to see him. I was crushed! I saw Ozzy with Brad Gillis. It was a great show, but not Randy. He is still my Favorite Guitarist!!! Randy sounds Awesome!!! Thanks
RANDY RHOADS WAS THE GOD OF GUITAR. I luckily got to see him Feb. 19,1982 FRONT ROW at convention center arena in San Antonio directly in front of Mr. RHOADS. We got awesome pictures & witnessed an amazing show. R. I. P. Randy
@@donfalkiewicz6366 that must've been incredible. I can't imagine watching him play what he was born to do live. I was born long after he was gone. Truly believe he was the best to ever play the guitar . Ozzy was lucky to have him
@Don Falkiewicz Lucky! I just turned 16 on Feb 18th and also had my ticket for that show. But I would have gotten to see him in Spokane Washington. Sadly, it was not meant to be. Instead, I stood in front of Brad Gillis. It was all too sad. Never, ever be another like Randy...
Thats heartbreaking. I got to see him February 8th in Detroit and then Brad Gillis in Ann Arbor later that year. I wish I could see that concert now as a 56 year old and truly understand how iconic randy was.
It was 3 weeks before the Buffalo show, I saw a Bernie show, without Randy there it just wasn't what I hoped to see and hear, my heart wasn't in it either.
Just imagine Tommy Aldridge behind his drums, Randy Rhoads on stage doing things like nobody before, Rudy Sarzo was and thank God STILL IS so unique in playing and in stage present, Don Airey - the Wizzard of the Moog and Ozzy the crazy!!!!!!!!! / Wow, that was fairytale in reality! Pure fun!
When I was 22 years old, Ozzy Osborne was coming to the Sam Houston Coliseum on February 17th (1982). Since first hearing Ozzy’s “Blizzard of Oz” solo album, his new guitar player Randy Rhoads had become my guitar hero. I didn't know much about him, nor did I even know what he looked like, because Ozzy's album pictures really didn't distinguish who was who in the band photo. To this point, I had assumed that the dark-haired guy (Rudy) was the guitar player I had recently come to idolize. Anyway, my girlfriend Mindy and our housemate Chris quickly found a way to score some tickets for the show. I figured if we showed up at the arena early enough, we might get a chance to meet the band before the show. It was a warm afternoon in Houston when Chris, Mindy and I arrived at the concert hall. We made our way around to the loading dock side of the building to look for tour buses or any other sign of band life. The road crew had already arrived and was setting up the elaborate stage for the “Diary of A Madman” tour. Surprisingly, the atmosphere was very relaxed. We were able to simply walk in and observe at our leisure without anyone hassling us. This went on for the better part of the afternoon. As we loitered about the premises, I befriended Randy’s guitar tech. He informed me that the band would be showing up around 5pm to do a soundcheck. In the meantime, he invited me into a makeshift dressing room to have a look at Randy’s guitars. They were sitting on guitar stands right in front of me. Just feet away from my hands were Randy’s signature cream Les Paul with the snakeskin strap, along with three custom made “V” shaped guitars. His polka-dot V, white pinstripe V and a black one, the latter two sporting the name “Jackson” on the headstocks. At this point, I was not really familiar with his guitars. And this was also long before Jackson Guitars became a household name. Needless to say, I was quite intrigued by them. Luckily, I had the presence of mind to bring a disposable camera with me. I asked the guitar tech if I could take a few pictures of the guitars. He didn’t mind, so I began to snap away. Just as I was photographing the assortment of guitars, a rather large and in charge road manager walked in on me and freaked out. “What the f#$k are you doing in here??? Gimme that efffing camera, those are custom made guitars!” he barked. The guitar tech tried to quell the big fellows concerns, but he would have no part in negotiating any compromise. “Gimme the effing camera if you wanna see the show” he demanded. As a 22 year old punk kid, I was in no position to argue, so I reluctantly gave the Paul Bunion looking troll my stupid camera. The guitar tech apologized for the road managers over-reaction and allowed us all to stay and hang out. Like clockwork, the tour bus pulled into the loading dock at 5pm. Tommy Aldridge, Rudy Sarzo and Randy Rhoads soon stepped out. Randy was wearing blue jeans, a black pleather jacket with no shirt under it with a white towel draped around his neck. Absent from the group was Ozzy, who apparently didn’t do soundcheck with the rest of the group. I quickly made my way over to who I thought was Randy and asked for an autograph. Slightly unprepared, I only had a small piece of paper that I had found nearby for them to sign. Rudy signed one side of the paper and Randy Rhoads signed the other side. I managed to make some small talk, at first thinking that Rudy was actually Randy. Up to this point, (As I said, I wasn’t entirely sure what Randy actually looked like). “Man, you’re a great guitar player” I said. Rudy looked at me sort of puzzled and pointed me in the direction of the actual Randy Rhoads. Needless to say, I felt like a douche. Randy was very unassuming, soft-spoken and frankly humble. He happily complied with my autograph request. He had to lean the small piece of paper onto the side of the cinder block wall in order to write his signature. He simply wrote, "Randy Rhoads". After several minutes, the band disappeared inside the arena and we followed along like lemmings. During their soundcheck, I stood directly in front of Randy Rhoads as the band ran through the song “Mr. Crowley” in its entirety. Randy was playing his cream Les Paul and never sounded better. I was in awe that afternoon, watching this soon to be legend warming up for the impending show right before my eyes. Except for my girlfriend Mindy, Chris and myself, (and a few road-crew guys), there was nobody else in the arena. A few short weeks later, Randy, twenty-five years old, was killed in a plane crash in Leesburg, Florida. I was davestated. His autograph remains framed on my studio wall to this day. Also, a few weeks earlier on March 5th, John Belushi died of a cocaine overdose. You could feel a chill in the psyche of the masses around Houston who had just absorbed the news of both of their untimely deaths. Both tragedies were a stark reminder of my own mortality....Can you imagine what would have been captured on my disposable camera had i been allowed to keep it??? Jeff Dyer - Uncle Sally 4
January -15-1982, There was a Blizzard that night and we didn’t think we would even make it. We were all thinking wow, the Blizzard of Ozz is in town and they brought the snow with them! Ha. It was a wicked storm, but not as wicked as Randy’s guitar riffs....! I was 12. 7th grade.... R.I.P. Randy Rhoads my hero.
@davewright. The snow was so bad they sent us home from school early that day. It’s a miracle anyone made it to the show, but the arena was packed to the rafters that night! The next night they played in Duluth Mn but I didn’t go. I wish I had.
I was still in school when I went to that show it was fucking great I was lucky enough to see Randy twice before he died both times it was the best R.I.P RANDY you are missed
Was lucky enough to see Ozzy on the blizzard tour..Motorhead backing..It was pretty Epic for a 14 year old..Rhoads was flawless..front row i was..Still remember it like yesterday
Wow, the arrangement of some of these songs sounds so different.? I haven’t heard many shows from this time period with Randy, he certainly makes a difference ❤
He was why Ozzy made it! Randy was the right guitarist to bring Ozzy back ,and those first 2 albums are the foundation of everything. I knew Randy and he was happy to get the chance to go in a heavier but still commercial enough for airplay! Randy was just getting started!
Oh Yess... The One and Only Randy Rhoads.. No One Will Ever Sound Like Him...Just Phenomenal.. Rest in Peace My Most Awesome Musical Big Brother and Thank You for All The Magic and Memories You Left Us ❤️❤️ And Thank You for Uploading and Sharing 😀😀😎👊💯❤️
OMG, I was at this concert and even hung out with the soundman afterward! He told me to jump the fence to get to where he was and then showed me all of the cool stuff back there. He even fired the special FX and the hand that came out of the stage. Stagehands came running out and he grabbed a mic to tell them it was cool, that he'd done it. Such a cool guy. Then, I got lost and wound up seeing the band leaving. They were laughing at me because I was pretty *cough* out of it. I remember Ozzy's voice cracking like this, too. lol It was still an amazing concert. Mind blowing.
The band is great as usual, but Ozzy couldn't stop partying before the show! My girlfriend, who became my first wife, only knew the sound guy's son was stinky because he would put his finger........somewhere and chase girls around saying"Smell it smell it!"! That is who had probably almost 40 audi soundboard tapes and 12 VHS tapes of the Diary show tour! I had 2 VHS copies made, because back then,82/83, it cost a lot to have copies made of these damn tapes! So I had 12 audio copies of shows and 2 VHS made! I had a studio-quality double cassette tape deck so I got really good copies of the shows! EVERY show was taped from the board and I'm not sure how many were pro-shot with 4 video cameras and a fast master audio to go with the video! I mean when Sharon or whoever says there are no tapes of THE biggest stage show of that year, they are full of crap! They knew Ozzy would have to go back and dub his vocals no matter what, but the band was tight and they could work with it! That is cool that you met the guy, I just wonder if it was actually the same guy that gave all these tapes to his son? Cool story about meeting him! Also too bad you didn't go back after the show, but it did take a while to make about 20 copies for the band and different people at Jett and CBS Records because they really wanted to put out a live album and Video of this tour! Damn! Randy was my neighbor and my guitar teacher, so I got so mad that he came so close to actually becoming even bigger than he is with just the small amount of material he was able to put out! The Quiet Riot stuff to me is not very good, but it is like someone lit a fire under him when he got together with Bob and Lee, and Ozzy, I was so happy for him! This Friday is his Birthday! Dec. 6! Same as my Dad! And mine is on Dec.11 same as Nikki Sixx! Nikki and I both had 2 double shots of Jack Daniels in 1981 backstage at the Whiskey! They had just released the Leather Records version of Too Fast for Love! I was 16 going on 17 and I was sure I was going to barf right in Nikki's face! I had never had any hard alcohol before!
Unbelivable sound, the chemistry of the band its outstanding, perfect match. The way Randy rhoads uses the delay is something else. Its as if the music part is divided into pieces or at millions away . And by the way that distortion + sometimes sounds like a fuzz Just magic
I saw him at the Poughkeepsie Civic Center on Blizzard and Music Mountain NY on Madman tour. On both occasions the audience booed the opening act off the stage. When we destroyed Def Leppard Randy came out on stage and read us the riot act !!!!! His hips were so small they fit within the V of his guitar. I went to the first show a keyboard player, bought a guitar the next day.
WOW! It takes a lot to piss Randy off! And he really did like Def Leppard! That was the high and dry tour, the last good Hard Rock Album they made! Ib have ton have that recorded somewhere! Man,they were really good on that ! Ozzy audiences were nuts back then! I took lesson for about 2 years from Randy! When I went to see Steve Vai around 1984 when he was still a nobody. I went to see him play a show at a little club called FM Station in North Hollywood, after I saw him play, stopped playing guitar for a year and switched to bass! I was actually in Megadeth for a few weeks, but I could not tale Dave's voice! Anyway,I went back to guitar after talking with Delores,Randys Mom. She was not happy that I just gave up guitar,so that is my little story! That is a once in a lifetime deal to see Randy yell at a crowd, but they deserved it!
@@MichaelDouglasSkewes Hello Michael, thanks for taking the time to share you knew Randy as an teacher and went to Musonium !!!! As a NYer and a musician I got ahold of Blizzard of Ozz about a 8 months before it was released in America. We didn’t know Bob and Lee were replaced before the tour. When Motörhead warmed them up in Poughkeepsie they sounded like fried asshole, they used 22 Marshall stacks in 3500 seat house !!!!! We not only booed them offstage but tried to destroy their equipment so they couldn’t harm others. They stopped us by telling us no Ozzy unless we stopped. Def Leppard’s lead guitarist was drunk with capital D and fucking up the act. After Ozzy and Sharron could be seen by most of the crowd on a tower at the side of the stage the crowd tuned on them, this is an outdoor show and here comes rocks and everything we could throw. Randy came out and called us motherfuckers !!!!!
@@gilbertspader7974 haha, its funny now, but you have to look at it from the bands standpoint! You guys were assholes! Now,I'm not calling you personally an a hole ,but I when I was playing ,especially on the road ! My band ,fatal attraction, started playing, some big club in ,I think Glendale Arizona, and the owner decided to switch from a Country band place ,to a hard rock/metal place ,without telling the people that went there. They knew a change was coming, but not when. So he books us and we come out with this vampire Image fangs make up ,the whole thing ! So we just start playing ,loud, and these cowboy dudes had no idea what was happening! So during the third song the singer rips the heart out of a girl, not really of course, but it looked real ,it's on RUclips, I think if you look up the video for the song tonight, anyway, about a third of the people were there to us, but after that song ,someone said we were sick motherfufkers! And a full beer comes out of nowhere and hit the singer! I got my bass ,because I had switched over for this band. And I had it like a bat and the singer came off the stage and we t right to where we thought it came from and I just started swinging at every cowboy or whoever looked guilty, and the singer was just swinging at everybody, our roadies jumped in and got some hits in, but my Roadie ,Tomato, who was 6'6" threw a guy over the bar ,and then the cops showed up! The owner said it was probably his fault and that he wanted everyone to calm down, and then we finish the show! Well,we played a few songs and then announced that we were playing 2 more nights! No shit kickers allowed, which is funny because the singer and drummer and I all ended up getting ranches and ,well there you go. But you see we were on the road and busting our ass to put on a good show ,so’if something like that happens, it hurts, and just pissed us of. And Def Leppard were just kids ,so everyone was looking out for them ! I never heard a bad thing about them on that tour. So,that's just my point of view . Some places are just hard to play ,but, well I guess I kind of made my point. I do e joy hearing from other people and what they thought about everything, the tour,Randy of course! I was kind of confused, because I loved the way Randy just came out blazing on all barrels! But i’also thought Eddie Van Halen was and is incredible! He changed everything! Ok,my fingers are cramping up! Thanks for your comments!
Man i like Ozzy new stuff but this was like from another planet . It was like ozzy rhodes rudy n drummer landed from another planet n blew everyone away n got bk on their spaceship n said that's the way it's done when i saw thembthe best concert i have ever saw five finger death punch ghost Metallica n i can go on were not ss good as Randy with Ozzy man that band was on fire 🔥🔥🔥🔥 This is Jessie Cristy husband God bless us all 💕🙏
I agree, this band was like NO other band playing at that time, besides maybe Van Halen! When I saw Van Halen in 78 the only band I had seen was KISS and they were at the top in 77, so they really were like Aliens, I was convinced they were! But my guitar teacher, Randy Rhoads, who was also my neighbor, I would see Quiet Riot rehearse and I just kept thinking, why is Randy playing with these goofballs? But I had no idea about what it took to find the right people and then have a chemistry that would carry over to live shows and recording and so on! Randy tried explaining that to me, but I was 12 or 13 and still had no idea! When he left to record Blizzard and he sent tapes home of the import, I remember going home and listening to it and I actually could not believe it was Randy! It was like somebody flipped the guitar shred switch and he was a different player altogether! That was the chemistry he had with Bob, Lee, and Ozzy, and Ozzy is last because he stumbled through those albums! Randy told me Ozzy was so hung over he had to drink while laying down his vocals, and he would pee and throw up in the booth while he was making the vocal tracks! But, he did 2 vocal tracks on all the songs, as almost everyone does, that is why on Flying High again, all right, here we go now, is said twice because he missed his cue, but they kept it in because it sounded right! Anyway, you are right and I agree, seeing that band live was like nothing else I had seen up to that point, and Randy was just on fire!
I always love to hear from people who were at the shows I post! I know it brings back the sounds, the smells the amazement of the whole stage show with Randy just killing it every night! Very cool!
This was the first show we finally got front row tickets for @ the Met Center in Bloomington Mn. THE best show i've to this day... Good thing I had my camera that night
Have you posted any of your photos anywhere? Randy was getting better and better and then like a shooting star, he was gone. Now he must be leading the ultimate band in heaven.
I grew up in Leesburg, FL and my first concert was 3/20/82 in Orlando to see them. I missed him by one day. It’s weird that Ozzy doesn’t introduce the band in this. But it’s great nonetheless. Thanks for posting.
It was one more thing that was pissing Randy off,he was becoming a backing musician for Ozzy the Madman !! Randy liked the show and the image ,he was into Alice Cooper, who I bet anything Randy would have ended up playing with! Anyway Randy is grouped into the rest of the band at the end of the Jam! This would have all blown over at some point, but now all anyone can do is guess! It haunts Ozzy till this day that he smacked Randy in the head for being an ungrateful twit after telling Ozzy he was leaving if they had to do that Sabbath cover album. Of course it was a way of keeping Ozzy getting royalties for songs he helped write! When Ozzy knows that he would have drank himself to death if Randy didn't show up for that audition!
My personal Diary I wrote the next day after the last show of Randy Rhoads in Knoxville Tennessee! RIP RANDY! YOU ARE SORELY MISSED! OZZY OSBOURNE: THURSDAY MARCH 18TH 1982: RANDY RHOADS LAST SHOW AT THE KNOXVILLE CIVIC COLISEUM: DIARY OF A MADMAN TOUR: Upon entering the coliseum after buying my tour shirt and ticket 🎫 stub processing: I noticed the stage was set up like a medieval castle with arches and bats 🦇 flying around the top of them. There was a staircase leading up to Tommy Aldridge’s Drumkit. The top left of Tommy was where Donny Airey’s keyboards were set up. Stage right and left had to cages with which Randy Rhoads would appear from the floor stage right and Rudy Sarzo stage left. OZZY had a throne of which he would appear out of to start the show to Over the Mountain. Tommy had his drum tech dressed as an Executioner stand beside his kit with his arms crossed. The staircase had a small section that would open and a small dwarf named: Ronnie (after Ronnie James Dio the new singer for Black Sabbath-replacing OZZY) and hand OZZY towels and water between songs. Little did we all know that later in the show: the executioner would bring the dwarf out to be hung from the rafters and later he would cut off his head using a guillotine! At the end of the show OZZY climbed onto a giant mechanical hand that OZZY stood on top of and launched unspecified meat 🥩 🍖 into the audience! Of course it was all an a theatrical act as the dwarf appeared to take a bow with OZZY and the band. When OZZY smiled we noticed he put vampire 🧛♀️ teeth in! We laughed hard! I went to the show with my friend Richard and his older brother Greg who was 18 at the time. We were 13. Greatest show on earth! Richard and I were both terrified and thrilled at what we witnessed! Unfortunately the next morning all that excitement and energy was gone as we learned that Randy Rhoads perished in a plane crash in Florida. Richard and I played drums but Greg played guitar 🎸 and he definitely took it the hardest! One of the greatest guitarist of our generation and had just won the new guitarist of the year by Guitar Player magazine. Rest In Peace Randy Rhoads your music lives on! Sincerely, Gary Lagstrom
This is one of the best audio recordings of Randy out, but the one that blows my mind was Providence Rhode Island Aug-7-1981. Not only was it the best sounding , but Randy sounded like he had been shot out of a cannon! Best I ever heard him play live.
Randy's live performance were flawless.. it's surprising he never makes a single mistake.. he worked his tail off 24x7x365 to maintain that much command over his instrument
When I see that black Jackson, I just remember sitting at Musonia and talking with Mrs Rhoads about what my band was doing ,and just playing the guitar through the little practice amp! These necks on this Jackson is really close to a classical guitar neck! But ,it made me want to be better, that strap was in the case. I have that guitar ,well one like it ,with the exact same strap.
I remember back in high school recording these shows off the radio. It was such a big deal for me anytime i got a chance to record any of these shows. This definetly brings me back. Never heard this particular show. Really awsome stuff..
This is a soundboard recording,I was Randy neighbour and he also was my guitar teacher. So ,I have some connections, and dating a girl that worked for Jet Records in Los Angeles! So,these are not the radio broadcasts. You can but the King biscuit show on ebay still, great recording! I have all the shows Randy did with Ozzy, and I have about 40 posted on RUclips from 1980 to 1982. Check out the Kalamazoo show I have posted, it's a great recording,I got this in 1982. I'm glad you like it!
I heard that there was a blizzard that night! I is great you got to see Randy ! That is something you will never forget! He was a great player, but live was a whole different experience!
You would think "Mind on a carpet, magic ride goes round and round" is the only lyrics in over the mountain the amount of times Ozzy repeats that line. 😆
Every time I look up live audio of Randy with Ozzy, the first thing I do is go the version of Paranoid because Randy ALWAYS improvised his solo and the fills in the song. There's always some amazing stuff to be heard there!
Great recording man.. Thank you so much for sharing.. It's unbelievable how good Randy was.. Geesh.. I had tickets to see him in Louisville KY when the tour was on, and he passed and the guy from Night Ranger took his place and did an excellent job, but I would have given anything to hear and see Randy back then! Great share brother.. Thanks man.. Really appreciate it.. Brings back some great memories of the music scene back then! Regards from the heartland. South Central Indiana. USA Tim
@@konnermurphy Randy had a Roland space echo for this delay you hear that is being controlled at the board, and he used an echo plex for playing , mostly solos .
@@ShawnGisler he used 2 echos ,roland space echo ,that was controlled at the board and an echo plex ,that he could control from his pedalboard . He was basically running a wet ,dry ,wet set up ,but not all the time!
Thank you so much! Randy was and forever will be my hero...I remember being incredibly excited to have my ticket for the Diary tour. But it wasn't meant to be I suppose. His passing has bothered me ever since. Do it's nice to hear these shows and imagine what might have been... thanks again.
And you are right, he did what he came to do,and is still loved to This day! Just enjoy it,and if you play guitar, learn fromit, that would make Randy the happiest !
Robert I was able to see the February 20th show at Reunion Arena in Dallas. My two friends and I were in the upper balcony on Randy's side. From the moment the show started I was on my feet yelling Randy!!! All the months leading up to the show I had been listening to Blizzard of Oz and Diary of a Madman on headphones every night. To see him live was one of the most profound memories of my life. One fun part of the show I remember was the dwarf Lil' John fanning a white towel at Randy during his solo. Randy chased him away at one point and I thought that showed Randy's humor.
@Randall M very cool! You are one of the lucky ones brother. I sure wish he could have stuck around a while longer. Randy was a once in a lifetime player, performer. Unfortunately, nobody is promised tomorrow.
Thanks so much for sharing, glad i was fortunate to see the Blizzard of Ozz tour and Randy just blew me away, i thought this guy was the best ever and is RIP Randy, miss you.
I was at this show..I drove 11 friends in my Moms 1977 Malibu because I was the only one with a license..I ran up to the 7th row in front of Randy Rhoads....Ozzy thru pig cuts in the audience I brought some home
This is Fantastic. Thank you. I was 12 when Randy died and a big fan since day one. Can't believe some of the comments being posted here that it's not a soundboard recording and if its soundboard how come it's not a HQ recording. Lol. Its definitely in stereo if you listen to the guitar echo effect. The young people forget that this is from the early 80's. Too funny. Glad I was alive when this was happening in real time. Thanks again😃
After seeing the Blizzard of Ozz Tour on 9/11/81, I had a ticket for and was psyched to see the "Castle Tour" as we were calling it, on 3/21/82 in Miami. But, that wasn't meant to happen. Thank you for this .
OMG THANKS SO MUCH for posting the soundboard from this show! I've been waiting for a nice upgrade of this for years. I was at this show when I was 13 years old. The wind chill was -60 degrees that night. This concert ranks #2 for me out of hundreds of shows. I can still remember many details of this night even after 39 years, it was that awesome and memorable. Definitely one of THE best nights of my entire life. Thanks again!!! ❤️ 👍 🔥
@@jackm8392..Page and Plant live with the Egyptian musicians in May 1995. I just loved (and still do) Zep's music a little more than Ozzy's..but you can't even compare the two because they are both so different from one another.
@@MichaelDouglasSkewes This one really blows me away...not that plenty of others don't.. but the quality is so crisp. His tone is so heavily on display and phew he was really.. I'd say elevated..if that makes sense. It just seems like he's turned it up in a way.. and I don't think it's just cause he's mixed so well. His playing..I think you can hear the difference from say a year earlier. Where he was phenomenal all the time...but here he seems to be playing at another level.. that's the best way I can put it. I think he was advancing his skills rapidly and you can hear the difference from earlier shows. Just my humble opinion but phew he was only getting better as time went on.. and only lord knows just how insanely great he would have sounded had he had more time 😥 This also blows away the Tribute album imho by a mile. It's almost otherworldly it's so intensely beautiful and in your face in the best of ways.
@@MichaelDouglasSkewes Also..not to be a downer but man..you should be able to release this or another show around this time with Kathy and Kelle. For Randy's sake..his memory and for his.. what's the word.. I'm tired.. it's 5am..his scholarship for music students or foundation? I'm sure plenty of people would be interested. It boggles my mind that you with his siblings wouldn't be able to release it or another show since this ones out here which I'm so thankful for to you. On that note.. goodnight. Pardon my occasional long messages. 🙏🎵🎶 ✌️
I was told some who knows Tommy Aldridge that he has all the soundboard recordings but refused to release them. These are PURE GOLD....not sure how you got these but they are awesome. randy was one of a kind and so were these shows....thanks!
The same way he got his! Every show was recorded for the band to listen to! I was friends with Randy and knew him well, but I got these through a guy that worked the sound for the Diary tour. He gave copies to his son ,and my girlfriend ,who was also became my first wife ,knew him and that is how I got these copies in 1983 , he had every show,I wanted the best ones, so I made copies of about 12 to 15 but I have recordings of EVERY show Randy played with Ozzy. He also had about a dozen videos of full shows on the 82 tour. Every member has copies ,even Rudy, he just doesn't tell everybody. But that is that!
@@MichaelDouglasSkewes I envy you. I would have loved to met Randy. I was 6 years old when he was killed. Wish I had this recordings on CD or my computer to be saved. Shame they will not release videos of Randy's time in the band :(
@@Faven2011 I can send you a copy of this entire show,I cut the banning off and some in the middle. Let me know - here is my e mail address, it's mdskewes@earthlink.net
I have to listen to this show heavily EQ'd. I created a profile to add some reverb, fix stereo separation and EQ out some some of the unlistenable frequencies. Really enjoyable listen after that. This show and Kalamazoo are really neat to listen to (the only 82' soundboard recordings we've heard). IMO, It's depicting some of Randy's boredom with the set (basically the same for 3 years) with him enhancing the show with all of the delay effects and extended "Suicide Jam". Randy never played these songs the same, so every show has its own unique feel, but the 82' tour was an interesting evolution.
I just sit here and wonder what that third album would’ve been like I know eventually he was gonna leave Ozzy to go teach Classical Music the third album would’ve been off the charts😢
It would have been heavier than any other album! Tommy Aldrige said Randy was getting heavier with his playing, and since Randy was the music director of the band and was already working on the next album, Randy would have put together a band after he finished his classical guitar degree! I think about it, too! I wish it had happened!
I watch the Documentary of Randy’s life it was kind of sad I think Rudy could maybe stop Randy from getting on that plane he was the last person he talked too the rest was sleeping Randy ask him too ride along with him and Rudy said no going too get some sleep Rudy felt something wasn’t right about that morning oh well I was just saying maybe he could of stop him🥲
Driving all night strung out on cocaine. Randy was too young to know better. I wish somebody would’ve stopped that from happening. You don’t play with peoples lives like that. If the AC didn’t break, they would’ve made it to Orlando to play that concert. and Albert Aycock I think that was his name shame on him Randy just wanted to take some pictures for his mother when he got back home🥲 150 miles an hour. There was nothing left🥲 the bus looked bad too
Randy's brother in law was the one who flew to Florida to I. D. the body. It was a horrible experience, he ,Richard, Kathy's husband had been drinking a bit and he told me exactly what he saw and what happened. I knew Randy, he was my neighbor and guitar teacher. What he told me I still can't get itt out of my head! He didn't tell anyone else in the family ,it was pretty graphic and horrible, I can't even imagine how he felt! I still. Iss Randy, I just pretend sometimes that he is just still on the road somewhere . It just feels wrong all these years later!
I remember reading an interview with Randy Rhoads were he talked musically about the turnaround(the slower middle section) in I Don’t Know the guitar 🎸 was mimicking the vocals and it suggested to OZZY the title of the next record: Diary of a Madman. In other words OZZY said Randy’s guitar suggested…OZZY…It’s a Diary…it’s a Diary…it’s the Diary of a Madman…OZZY…It’s a Diary…it’s a Diary…it’s the Diary of a Madman…OZZY…It’s a Diary…it’s a Diary…it’s the Diary of a Madman…
The classical guitar in Diary of a Madman was taken from a classical piece that Randy had just learned. So when Ozzy said "I want to Nick that piece you are playing," Randy said sure! Ozzy thought Randy wrote it but it is a few hundred years old so the copywrite is Public Domain, which means anyone can use it! You can look the piece up and hear it played by guitars and orchestras!
@MichaelDouglasSkewes Actually, Randy borrowed this intro from Leo Brouwer who is an 85 year old Cuban composer. The piece is called "Estudios Sencilles #6" and it's the exact same chord progression all right. In his book, Ozzy says it was a Mozart piece, which is obviously false. I can't remember where I read it but I think Leo Brouwer tried a lawsuit but it didn't go very far.
@@Ivan-cl9hc It is an old classical piece and that guy did try and say he wrote it, but it is well over a hundred years old, like I said, so it's public domain, and anyone can use it like I said!. It's all over the internet, also I asked Randy how he came up with that classical piece, and that is when he told me it was something the instructor he was taking lessons from at that time was teaching Randy. When Ozzy wanted to use it, Randy found out that it was no problem because the REAL composer was.........dead. I Can't Remember the guy's name. The guy you are talking about was just one of several people who tried suing Ozzy, but it didn't work because......... now go back and read what I typed already.
@MichaelDouglasSkewes many people tried to sue Ozzy and gave up because they didn't have the financial power to afford the kind of lawyers that he and Sharon could. I'm sure you know about Lee Kerslake and Bob Daisley for that matter. Anyway, maybe Brouwer himself did borrow his piece from somebody else. But he is not just "some guy" in the classical guitar world. Many many students know this piece and they study it from an intermediate level of practice because it's not excessively hard to play. Randy studied it, so did I, so did countless classical players the world over. It really is almost identical to what Randy recorded, he just arpeggiated it slightly differently but it's the same chord shapes like I said yesterday.
Me too,and I was 17 also! Cool! I actually drove from the Sports arena up to the Troubadour and saw Motley Crue play ,after I hung out with Mick and Nikki, Nikki wanted to hear all about the Ozzy show ,and how great Randy was! That's when he went into HIS version of auditioning for Quiet Riot ,he first met Randy at his house, which we really close to where I lived. I knew Nikki when I went to the Liqour store he worked at in Burbank ,because he would sell beer to minors out the back door ,and he also hande out flyers for London ,I got 2 ,and then Motley Crue, I went to that first show too,it wasn't at the Starwood, they played a little club in Pasadena called Pookies, before they even tried playing anywher anywhere in Hollywood! All very cool memories! I can't remember which show Randys effects board didn't work ,so he was basically playing straight into the Marshalls, he was incredible!
I have 3 different versions of this concert. And every other show that Randy Rhoads did with Ozzy. Just p..m. me at my Facebook page, Michael Douglas Skewes . I'll get you a copy.
@@MichaelDouglasSkewes -- That would be awesome beyond words. I don't have Facebook but will have a friend or my sister message you if that is okay. Again, this would be awesome. Thanks.
It's the first time I've ever heard Randy with that much delay on his guitar! I saw the show 4 days after this one in La Crosse,Wi. 1-19-82 & he didn't have that much if any delay going.Pretty sure he had Chorus,Distortion, and maybe a Flanger, with his EQ & Volume pedal.I don't ever remember hearing this much delay! Ever? Was it added later with some of the keyboards? I really wish they would've had a 2nd guitar player instead of the keyboards! It ruins the heaviness of the music, in my opinion. Love closing my eyes when I hear these songs & going back to that night! Randy & Rudy were so in sync with their movements (stage presence) they were awesome, whole show was. 1st concert at 14 yrs old. I skipped school that day! LOL. Good thing too because I wasn't supposed to go to the concert. My older brother & 5 or 6 friends, and my uncle got 2 tickets. His friend backed out last minute, as he was driving to the show he went past our house & I was outside so he stopped & asked if I wanted to go? I didn't even answer i just opened the door & got in & said let's go with an ear to ear smile. He got kicked out of LA Crosse Civic Center for smoking a cigarette 2 songs into Ozzy. I was sitting on (leaning back against) his jacket, I was so into the show I didn't see him get removed from the seat next to me,or feel him pull his jacket out from under & behind me! He went & sat in a bar a couple blocks away and drank until he saw people walking by yelling & screaming then went to his car. Had I known he was getting kicked out I'd of followed them & let him back in!!! Like we saw a guy do for 2 guys fighting in the bathroom in between bands.I lost my ticket stub years ago,but my uncle still has his, I've tried buying it from him & he won't sell it to me! I said c'mon man you didn't even see the show,I'm a guitarist & Randy is my Hero, main influence, idol,GOD!!!! And he won't sell it to me.But hopefully I'll get it one day because he's 10 yrs (9 yrs 361 days) older than I am,so if I outlive him? I'll get it.
Randy was my friend and neighbour and teacher, so I do this to keep his name out there ,and try and get facts instead of myths out to the fans! Randy was a nice guy and an incredible talent! I'm glad that you like it,and feel free to comment on any other videos. I just put up a Facebook page Eternal Rhoads, check it out,and post something if you want! Thanks again.
@@MichaelDouglasSkewes Thank you Michael. I saw the Tour in Pine Bluff Arkansas 17 days b4 the crash that also too Rachel Youngblood the make up artist. This is truly appreciated by me personally and every true fan. Im 58 years old now and went to Randys Rock Hall Of Fame induction last year. Im Am in Argentina 🇦🇷 right now on my way to Patagonia and the South Pole where i will wear my Randy Rhoads Tee Shirt in the Mountains and at the Pole to make Sure Randy goes Everywhere Forever.. I love Rock and Roll and I LOVE Randy Rhoads Forever.....🙏🙏🙏🙏
I have 12 soundboard recordings! I have had them since 83, My first wife knew a kid whose dad was doing the audio on the Dairy Tour! He also had several Videos of Full pro-shot shows. I have about 3 copies, it was really expensive to get a video copied back then!
Long delay about 600 ms and the feedback turned up so you can hear three or four repeats. I’ve noticed on these soundboard recordings from 1982 the delays are really dialed in they match the tempo of the song perfectly and I believe they’re being done at the soundboard not from the stage. On this guy’s channel, he has another soundboard recording where it says “high-quality“ in the title if you listen to that one you can hear how tastefully the delays are brought in and out during the solos only in certain sections, and also with Ozzie‘s voice. You can do it with a digital delay, I remember reading Mix magazine interview with the engineer don’t remember his name on the studio recordings with Randy and he said they were using a Lexicon Prime Time 93 Digital delay. Look that up on Google. I had one for about 20 years, they sell used for about $3000 now. Because they have the most transparent beautiful tone. Have you ever noticed that Randys solos sound like they have a slight teeny little bit of chorus on them? That really sounds like the Prime Time to me, Or an Eventide harmonizer which had just been invented. In case you didn’t know: phasing, flanging, chorus, doubling are all created with a delay effect but the delay time is so short you can’t hear a repeat it just makes the note sound thicker because it is slightly out of tune with itself, most people know this but some don’t. So it sounds to me like he is using a little bit of delay for chorus which is about 20 to 30 ms and then long delays that are about 600 that are not on all the time just brought in and out very tastefully by the sound engineer. I just threw on a pair of headphones… This sounds really great and i’m definitely hearing an Eventide Harmonizer, check out around 30 to 31 minutes in, when he does that solo for suicide solution you can hear the sound guy turning the long delays on and off in stereo and then switching in the harmonizer. Oh, and Randy used the MXR Distortion Plus, MXR 10 band graphic EQ, Flanger pedals into to his Marshalls. In 1982 the Front of house sound guys were adding a lot of his time-based effects. I hope that helps, have fun!
Ok,you actually had to hear this live for the real effect! Yes ,it was a Roland space echo, and he ran 3 stacks ,one had a Microphone on it ,and was controlled at the soundboard ,so you didn't see him stomp on anything, it just happened ,it was loosely marked on the set list and the guy at the soundboard activated it . Most people that didn't see this show, don't really know what is happening when they hear it,plus you are getting the direct inputs from the stage miss. That is why the delay is so dramatic. It was a great effect ,it sounded like the sky was opening up,his guitar was coming from the P.A. and with the delay ,it was a really great effect. I know, because Randy showed this to me at the rehearsals down at the Orange pavilion before the Diary tour. He had worked this out and thought it would set him apart ,it would have if the whole tour would have been done with him. Brad was thinking about using it,but he was already running his rig in stereo,so there you go!

Thank you. From Japan.
Randy Rhoads is the KING. Still is. No one can take his crown.
The organ ruined alot of ozzys music. Cheese. It had its place in certain songs at certain times but this is complete overkill. Took away from the bite of Randy’s attack. Glad he took it out of the mix for the tribute album
He didn’t take it out of the mix on Tribute! It was a different tour and a different keyboard player!
Randy rhoads thecnique amazes me all the time i listen him
He was ahead of his time! I can't imagine what he would have come up with!
@@MichaelDouglasSkewes yes i feel the same way. But one thing is for sure he was going to blow us up with something he created
He was going to quit rock and roll and get his degree in classical guitar and teach at his mom's school.
Randy was the greatest guitar hero that Ozzy have ever had.......the so called "one in a million".....
I saw him 2 shows before the accident. Pine Bluff Arkansas. 1st row with 5 friends. Never Forget❤❤❤❤❤❤
Pure fun!
I seen them five times !!!!
He informed me that
the band would be showing up around 5pm to do a soundcheck. In the meantime, he invited me
into a makeshift dressing room to have a look at Randy’s guitars.
Tommy Aldridge, Rudy
Sarzo and Randy Rhoads soon stepped out.
Jeff Dyer - Uncle Sally

Thanks for sharing this story Jeff! Was a good read, what an awesome memory!
Wow.. What Memories for Sure 😀😀💯
School next day?
are you saying there was an actual Blizzard in addition to the one from Ozz?
Was that in Cleveland?
@@jfo3000 Minnesota! At the met center.
@davewright. The snow was so bad they sent us home from school early that day. It’s a miracle anyone made it to the show, but the arena was packed to the rafters that night! The next night they played in Duluth Mn but I didn’t go. I wish I had.
Goodbye to Romance solo baby! Makes me well up.

good stuff for the show😂

I was still in school when I went to that show it was fucking great I was lucky enough to see Randy twice before he died both times it was the best R.I.P RANDY you are missed
Are you just joking me??? Randy's riffs mind boggling and ozzy's vocals are pure emotion. Let's all fucking rock-n-roll !!!
I'm glad you like it !
I like it too!!👍👍
Was lucky enough to see Ozzy on the blizzard tour..Motorhead backing..It was pretty Epic for a 14 year old..Rhoads was flawless..front row i was..Still remember it like yesterday
Greatest rock guitarist of all time
Unbelivable sound, the chemistry of the band its outstanding, perfect match.
Anyway, you are right and I agree, seeing that band live was like nothing else I had seen up to that point, and Randy was just on fire!
thank you thank you!!! Fantastic recording and love how Randy stands out in the mix. I was there too!!!
I always love to hear from people who were at the shows I post! I know it brings back the sounds, the smells the amazement of the whole stage show with Randy just killing it every night! Very cool!

OZZY OSBOURNE: THURSDAY MARCH 18TH 1982: RANDY RHOADS LAST SHOW AT THE KNOXVILLE CIVIC COLISEUM: DIARY OF A MADMAN TOUR:
Upon entering the coliseum after buying my tour shirt and ticket 🎫 stub processing: I noticed the stage was set up like a medieval castle with arches and bats 🦇 flying around the top of them.
Sincerely,
Gary Lagstrom
I'm Hearin You Bro 💔💔
This is one of the best audio recordings of Randy out, but the one that blows my mind was Providence Rhode Island Aug-7-1981. Not only was it the best sounding , but Randy sounded like he had been shot out of a cannon! Best I ever heard him play live.
i agree ! I thought I posted that show?
this sounds like crap played thru a waterfall.
Randy's live performance were flawless.. it's surprising he never makes a single mistake.. he worked his tail off 24x7x365 to maintain that much command over his instrument
I was at this show
Wow, awesome
I'm glad you like it!
Yes, don't see/hear much live Ozzy/Randy stuff @@MichaelDouglasSkewes
When I see that black Jackson, I just remember sitting at Musonia and talking with Mrs Rhoads about what my band was doing ,and just playing the guitar through the little practice amp! These necks on this Jackson is really close to a classical guitar neck! But ,it made me want to be better, that strap was in the case. I have that guitar ,well one like it ,with the exact same strap.
Wow! Luv It Just To Hear My Favorite Song "Over The Mountain"!!!! LIVE!!!! THANX!!!!

dude the the harmonic sounding fill thing that randy is playing at 7:12 is insane

His in-between fills on any of these live bootlegs are absolutely incredible!
I was at this gig..honest..never forget it..huge blizzard that night
I heard that there was a blizzard that night! I is great you got to see Randy ! That is something you will never forget! He was a great player, but live was a whole different experience!
Oh man, that little thing Randy does with the vibrato at the end of crazy train is so f'ing cool!!
He always played that song with. His Lee Paul! I can tell you how.
You would think "Mind on a carpet, magic ride goes round and round" is the only lyrics in over the mountain the amount of times Ozzy repeats that line. 😆
Damn, Randy was seriously next level.
31:00 - Spotlight Solo
Every time I look up live audio of Randy with Ozzy, the first thing I do is go the version of Paranoid because Randy ALWAYS improvised his solo and the fills in the song. There's always some amazing stuff to be heard there!
Randy is on fire 🔥
Great recording man.. Thank you so much for sharing.. It's unbelievable how good Randy was.. Geesh.. I had tickets to see him in Louisville KY when the tour was on, and he passed and the guy from Night Ranger took his place and did an excellent job, but I would have given anything to hear and see Randy back then! Great share brother.. Thanks man.. Really appreciate it.. Brings back some great memories of the music scene back then!

Randy Rhoads was absolutely, absolutely And I will say it again, absolutely to good for this world! GOD wanted him to play for him now not us anymore.

Same here
Robert I was able to see the February 20th show at Reunion Arena in Dallas.

Can't believe some of the comments being posted here that it's not a soundboard recording and if its soundboard how come it's not a HQ recording. Lol. Its definitely in stereo if you listen to the guitar echo effect. The young people forget that this is from the early 80's. Too funny.

I'm glad you like it, it's a good quality soundboard recording.

Thanks for posting this! I wish there was video to accompany ANY of the DIARY shows (just rumors of professionally shot vids held back by Sharon).

I'm glad you like it!
You don’t
play with peoples lives like that. If the AC didn’t break, they would’ve made it to Orlando to play that concert. and Albert Aycock I think that was his name shame on him
Randy just wanted to take some pictures for his mother when he got back home🥲 150 miles an hour.
@ thanks man✨👍
I remember reading an interview with Randy Rhoads were he talked musically about the turnaround(the slower middle section) in I Don’t Know the guitar 🎸 was mimicking the vocals and it suggested to OZZY the title of the next record: Diary of a Madman.
I’d love a copy of this on cd if possible!
i'll let you when I get a new drive and can burn a copy for you!
Thank you for sharing!

47:10/47:13 Randy Rhoads Epic Revenge!

You are saying there are 12 sound board recordings from the Diary Tour? I am only aware of 2, this one and Detroit.
I have 12 soundboard recordings! I have had them since 83, My first wife knew a kid whose dad was doing the audio on the Dairy Tour! He also had several Videos of Full pro-shot shows. I have about 3 copies, it was really expensive to get a video copied back then!
Does anyone know what effect Randy uses during the over the mountain solo? Starting at 2:55
He used a Roland echoplex. It’s just a delay system. You could achieve the same effect with any delay that has the delay speed turned down.
@@TacticsOfTorture thanks for the reply, I was wondering if I could do it with my delay, will try it
He used MXR pedals and has stated so in numerous audio clips.
23:30 he drops some voodoo on YOU
