Today, we’re going to be talking about the recent comments made by Sharon and Ozzy Osbourne regarding the lost Holy Grail tapes spanning the period between from 1979 and 1981 Blizzard of Ozz sessions to former Ozzy Bassist Bob Daisley.
In a recent episode of their podcast, The Osbournes discussed the existence of former Ozzy bassist Bob Daisley's so-called "Holy Grail" demos, which are said to contain seven hours of unreleased material featuring the late Randy Rhoads, recorded during the writing sessions for Blizzard of Ozz and Diary of a Madman albums.

4) can he cofirm that the band was called Blizzard of ozz through Diary of a mAdman, and it was Steve Machat signing Ozzy to CBS that empowered Darth Hideous ( Sharon Osbourne) to fire Lee and then subsequently Bob
5) does he feel bad for Jake E Lee or cringe any time he looks at the Bark At the Moon credits with Ozzy writing all music and lyrics

ANother question for Bob: In the John Stix book, Ozzy says that he and Randy wrote most of the first album before "the other guys (Bob and Lee") were in the band.
How does Bob feel about that sort of revisionist history?

Stop it, Jack is a very smart guy, he used to book bands for festivals, he does know a lot. Once Sharon and Ozzy are done, Jack will more than likely inherit the business and have say as to what happens with future projects. It's @sdholes like you that constantly bag on people that can be allies in furthering Randy's legacy by finding footage or working on a special project. All you idiots just want stuff, they have to invest money, package everything...Jack knows how much RR meant to Ozzy. Truth is they probably want to feature only the best to take care of RR's legacy. He should be so much more famous. Just his work with Ozzy is up in the all time greatest lyrics ever written. Everywhere he’s gone he definitely raised the band level way up!
What people constantly seem to "forget" (or never think about) is that: Ozzy never wrote lyrics.
...That is, he started to, later. Had to.
...but: in Sabbath, it was Geezer (with a few things, from time-to-time, thrown in by Ozz)
...after not having written for years and, also, having the severe struggles, at the time, with his addictions and mental health; Ozzy did NOT "spring forth" from the floor of a hotel room and his own piss & vomit, to, simply, start writing the bases of '80s Metal, "like magic!"
Bob wrote ALL of the lyrics for: the classic Blizzard albums (Blizzard Of Ozz and Diary Of A Madman) and continued having songs on Ozzy's albums (in a diminishing capacity, following Bark At The Moon, but still!....) through when Zakk joined the band!
I don't hate Ozzy and don't wish to denigrate his talents or contributions, at all!
...but people often, ignorantly, give Ozzy credit for the words he sang in Black Sabbath as well as his solo career (particularly early-on and with the Blizzard Of Ozz!) and should be informed/reminded that:
Ozzy DELIVERED those words, but he did NOT write them.
That came from other people (and in the case of Ozzy's solo career: from Mr. Bob Daisley (to a majority extent!)!).

Totally agree .. and she also wants to keep this "narrative" alive that Ozzy wrote all of the hits . I believe this is why she hated Dio so much . She knew he could write for Black Sabbath , while her husband never could . She can't bare to have Ozzy exposed .
She's/they are the reason WE can not walk up to a Touchtunes/Jukebox and play Bob and Randy's music.

Recent Ozzbourne Podcast Sharon Commented on tapes bob has and stated It's Randy's Family who will determine anything regarding the tapes..it was all done on Cassette old school style
My guess is Sharon/Ozzy doesn't want to allow it's release because it will show Bob actually did write these songs along with the rest of the band & confirm his lawsuits that he deserves royalties for his contributions.
As far as the technology today being able to clean up the recordings and make them more up to date , so to speak , in my opinion that would ruin them . The whole concept of them being dubbed the "holy grail" is the rawness of the creative process playing out & working up to the final recordings we have on the album . Other than removing background noises or turning up the volume to clarity purposes I'd personally prefer them to be as they were recorded by Bob on his boombox.
Getting into what Jack/Sharon said about they should be released by Randy's family I'd say Bob should approach the Rhoads family & come to an agreement where they receive some form of compensation or at least give it their blessing to be released. This would put the Osbourne camp on the spot to follow through on their reasoning as to why they aren't allowing the release.
I love Ozzy, as Black Sabbath is my favorite band of all time , but the disrespect and bad business practices they've pulled on Bob Lee & Jake are disgusting... excusing Ozzy from that as far as saying it's Sharon's doing & not Ozzy is just garbage as far as I'm concerned.

Yea, when he stopped working with Bob and Jake! Zakk's good but the overplayed & annoying pinch harmonics on all the Ozzy/Randy era tunes & the Jake/Ozzy era tunes & all the tunes Ozzy did with Sabbath, just ruins them. And I'm not the only one who's complained about Zakk's playing on the tunes I just mentioned.

It's not surprising Sharon and Jack Osbourne are so out of touch with fans' wishes. It's all monetary, it's all about extracting as much as possible from the fans and continuing the myth that if it weren't for Ozzy, rock and roll wouldnt exist at all. It's not necessarily about the quality of the tapes, it's about what it is. It's about the legacy material, the stories behind the songs that those FOUR created. It's very sad that Ozzy is going to leave us being resented to a certain extent by those of us who bought those first 2 albums to send Ozzy and Sharon on their way to the Holllywood mansions and Rolls Royces. But, after we bought the concert tickets and albums, we were discarded like Bob and Lee and Jake E Lee.

For facts sake, is an excellent book. Very honest and highly entertaining. I would recommend it to everybody. I contacted, Bob, thinking that he wouldn't reply but he did and we even had a small " conversation " about it. He's a lovely guy.

The world needs these tapes! Randy was the Hendrix of his generation. He took what was there and built a skyscraper temple of talent on top of what came before.
Sharon saying "The tapes should be given to Randy's family" is bullshit. Randy would definitely want people to hear them. Just imagine how different it would be if Sharon owned them. I mean of course Randy's family should have them but so should the world!

Sharon owns that. That's why Bob can't release the Holy Grail. And Sharon is too worried about losing money rather than caring about anything Randy's fans want. If they had a shred of decency they would have done a Randy documentary years ago. They wouldn't cooperate with Andre Relis who released Randy Reflections of a guitar icon. And Randy's siblings didn't cooperate either. That's the strange thing but I'd bet anything that Sharon held something over them so they wouldn't be involved in the documentary.
Ozzy saying the quality is dreadful is probably about his singing. But what about the pro shot concert footage that supposedly is in the hands of Ozzy and Sharon?

The pro shot video with Randy that looks like what Speak of the Devil became, may have been test filming for the show they ended up doing with Brad. There was some footage on RUclips, but it was shot from the stage and had some weird camera movements if I remember rightly. What became the Speak of the Devil project would have to have been scheduled way in advance to get video, concert and recording all done at once. Don't think the Osbournes had much choice between doing the project or losing money to cancel it all. I think there is footage from that when ET did the Randy wins the Best New Rock Guitarist Award from Guitar Player Magazine. I honestly believe the Randy stuff was just test video to get a feel for the show, when stuff happens, solos...that kind of thing. I wish there were a whole show, I just don't believe there is, at least not pro shot, ready for release...
What Some People Forget...They Were The Blizzard Of Ozz...A Band...Not Just One Artist & Performer And Side, Temp Work For Hire Musicians.

Ozzy and Sharon never appreciated all that Bob had done to help his career. All the lyrics, music, great bass playing, and everything else. It's just unreal how they treat the people that made his biggest and best material.
I could swear Aldridge once said they filmed every show ? I saw the Diary tour with Randy in Dallas, had no idea at the time it wasn't Tommy and Rudy on that album. Wonder if there's any video of the Blizzard band at all ?

That is the question that I've been asking, is there any live footage with Randy, Bob, Lee and Ozzy on stage? There damn well should be bc I know they all toured together for the Blizzard album starting sometime in 1980, on into '81. I've seen a couple of photos of them on stage, but even those are few and far between. I just love the way Lee played on those two albums, and long to hear how close to the studio versions he played his parts live. Tommy is fantastic, but he chose to not duplicate any of Lee Kerslake's drum fills or even play the original drum beats precisely. To me that's a damn shame that he didn't.
I love Bob Daisley, he did all the lyrics on the those first couple albums and he helped write some ideas and arrange songs on Blizzard, Diary and Bark, and so forth. But people say once Ozzy and Sharon is gone, Jack is going to release stuff of Randy Rhoads.
Who knows man. I won't hold my breath. For all we know, that's just gossip and Wishful-thinking from us Randy fans. :(
He and Randy wrote all of it. Lee played drums. Ozzy had to beaten to do anything and everyone involved had to be patient. Ozzy wrote no lyrics, Bob did. Ozzy had no riffs or ideas or even lyrics at all. Bob Daisley was the lyricist. Randy, Bob and Lee Kerslake were responsible. Bob later did Bark At The Moon with Jake. He also did several songs on NoRest and No More Tears. Bob Daisley's contribution to Ozzy's solo career is quite staggering.

He even wrote the lyrics to Bark even though getting fired and played on the record. Bob had thick skin. He and Jake were instrumental for this record. Ozzy wrote nothing, He is great singer and love him regardless.
Ozzy & Sharon, who the heck cares about the sound quality!!!??? I mean WE FANS have heard you sing, Ozzy, on your worst days, and yet we supported & rooted for you those times.
I know I may not be the only one, but just to have these recordings available to buy are for our collections and the sentimental point of having them. I mean who wouldn't want these recordings?? I know that there are some of US that would love to hear & have the demo version or outtakes of the originals. Because its RAW & LIVE. WE want to experience what the band members experienced at the time of recordings.

WE all know that there is a crap ton of bootlegs out there recorded on tape, etc. That arent the best quality. How about gripe groan & complain about them? Because you cant. But WE like them, and WE them, just to have them for that experience & raw sound, regardless of how the vocals are.
For example, look at Black Sabbath's REUNION, it was super mixed & over dubbed for sure. But some are lucky & like to have the raw recorded version of it.!!

To be fair, Ozzy has Parkinson's Disease. That "angry, fixed-stare" is one of the symptoms of the Disease. My Grandfather passed away from that in 1983.

It’s a shame but Ozzy has turned into a clown, controlled by Sharon & if it wasn’t for Bob Daisley, who wrote Blizzard of Ozz & Diary, he may have ended up killing him self. Bob & Randy saved Ozzy’s life & career, Bob wrote many of Rainbow’s biggest hits too, the guy is a writing machine & a great bass player who is well respected in the business. Ozzy is done, just retire & go away & I hate to say that because those first two albums are my two favorite albums of all time, masterpieces!

Yeah, they pro-shot alot of the Blizzard tour and supposedly the Diary tour with Randy also, according to Max Norman when he was doing the Tribute album, He didn't have to do hardly anything to Randy's and Tommy Aldridges stuff saying what you hear is true but he said Ozzys vocals at times were bad and Rudy Sarzos bass work was really bad and had to be redubbed, I'm wondering if the pro shot footage is much the same way giving some reason why it may never see the light of day

If you look up the quiet riot gigs, Randy did with quiet riot before he was with Ozzie you will hear snippets of licks. You’ll recognize later on the Ozzie albums during his solos

On his guitar solo during a live version of Laughing Gas can hear "Dee" and when the band comes back in, they briefly do the bass/drum beat of Crazy Train. So he definitely had some things sketched out a bit before Ozzy.

The only thing that's dreadful is Sharon. Her and Ozzy have continually screwed Bob over for over 40 years now. The guy that helped write most of the music and especially the brilliant lyrics and bass playing. Ozzy owes a lot to Bob for helping revive his career after his firing from Sabbath. Lee (r.i.p) , was also amazing on drums as well on his best 2 albums. It's absolute BS how greedy and ungrateful they have been.

I know the tapes I made of jamming with a boombox were played over and over. There was no mixing, compression, panning, eqing and side chain compression or gain staging and mic placement, and they sounded great, because it was live and the volume filled the room and the mic's. Cymbals might get out of hand if you raise the recording device off the floor. Couple of jams and you figure out where it sits best, like a 1950's one mic recording.
Question: what if Bob stayed with Black Sabbath after Enternal Idol and made more albums with the lineup Tony Iommi, Tony Martin and his old Rainbow buddy Cozy Powell? Imagine how great that lineup would've been. 😢
A good question for Bob would be, Max Norman stated to Margolis that South Hampton show was also filmed pro shot when they had a feed going to the remote recording truck outside. Maxed watched it on TV monitor. Is that true? Randy had to rerecord his solo for You Said it all in the back of the truck straight into the recording board Max said cause he wasn't happy with the live version. Also a man was filming and making a Mr Crowley Mtv style video when they were recording Blizzard of Ozz and Ozzy chased the guy out of the Ridge Farm studio taking the footage with him?

Everything Randy did was always fantastic. Sound quality aside. I sometimes wonder if Ozzy maybe doesn’t like how he sounds himself on these recordings. Some recordings you can hear OZZYs voice struggling and repeating lyrics seemingly forgetting the actual verses.

In regard to...Bob should GIVE it to the Rhoads family....ABSOLUTELY NOT. It's Bob's and the Rhoads family could just profit exclusively for it and Randy and mom are now dead. No, I don't think Bob should do that, nor have to. I don't know the legalese, but really think, if need be, ALL should signoff on it and how divied up....50% to Bob for having the material and being one of the people in the band, 25% to Ozzy and 25% to Rhoads.

I checked out the recordings, ... there are 4 samples. The recordings are definitely just demo grade recordings. Very rough sounding. However, everything is discernible. The lead guitar work is phenomenal. Mature music fans who can discern the fact that it's demo recordings would love it. ... What Ozzy and Sharon are saying about giving them to Randy's family to see if they will release it is asinine.
The recording was made by Bob Daisley, therefore, he owns the recordings.
The issue is that Ozzy's camp owns the copyrights on the songs, therefore it's up to Ozzy's camp to release them, and not Randy's family.
Probably Ozzy is saying that because he would have some deal with Randy's brother "Kelle" not to release it, and Ozzy would be giving Kelle a paycheck for taking the heat and blame for it.
I hate to say this because of Randy, but Kelle is a moron, and a weirdo.

Bob has always been a stand up guy, honest, and candid, he and Lee got screwed by Sharon and Ozzy, I recorded lots of my different bands rehearsals over the years, glad I did, some are good quality, some not, but I captured some great times, some of the members have died, I have them on tape for ever
Some of the best sounding recordings I’ve heard were done on “little cassette players” or boom boxes set up in the room. There is an honesty to them, and the mix was always good if it was in the right place in the room. I miss being able to record rehearsals and such in that way. They sounded so much better, more raw and honest, and usually better mixed, than the modern digital garbage. A band sounded like a band.
Your right i cassette recorded almost every band i was in and some are as good as studio recordingd i have many of them online on different music sites.
Best recording I had ever done was myself, an acoustic guitar and singing in a motel bathroom. The echo in the bathroom really gave the sound something special. I agree with you, a boombox and cassette tapes were the best.

There is both but unfortunately Sharon owns the rights to everything Randy did for ozz. Randy's brother and sister can't even release anything from Randy besides Quiet riot stuff. And Bob can't release the Holy Grail cause they'd sue the crap out of him. It's a real shame that Sharon holds the keys to anything having to do with Randy and Oz.

Taking the side of the Osbournes when it comes to Randy's untimely passing, I really do think that any mention of Randy saddens him as Randy gave him hope, and a life back in music -- and what a life it has been. Jack O is always behind the release of Randy material, whenever he can. The documentary listening yo the Crazy Train mix Jack sees the OG recording I Southampton, with Bob, saying they should listen to it. Ozzy declines and looks Sad.
Bob's tape will see the light of day and as he says the technology is there to make them sound great.

Ozzy would be the first to stand in line to buy/hear "a crap" recording of The Beatles in Hamburg, ... so please spare us the statement "It sounds like crap!" - We've heard snippets, and in 2023, those can be cleaned up and boosted properly, ... as you guys were saying, The Beatles just did that with "Now and Then".
Randy was my very concert at 13 years old in Cincinnati February 1982 Diary of a Madman. I've seen at least 3,000+ concert since including Metallica/Pantera last week in Detriot Ford Field and was by far the Best Guitarist Especially LIVE out of the entire 3,000+ concerts. I do know from someone directly associated with the band that Ozzy has Cassette tapes ran directly through and from the soundboard both Tours

Why hasn't anybody asked Kathy Rhoads what she has. Almost 3 years ago to the day when Musonia was robbed, Kathy says in an interview with The Metal Voice (ruclips.net/video/MA3AgzCmXcI/видео.html) when she's talking about the fans (it starts at 14:00 in) she says "So you didn't get one thing you wanted right now, that doesn't mean it's not coming. I'm just trying to do it right...big huge point I wanna get out there, and there's some video of my brother that they think, you know, that I've been hiding. I have it, I'm just trying to make thing's right, to get it the right way, and the right representation. I'm not going to hoard it forever, please people. " So it seems that not too many listeners caught her saying that, but she obviously has some kind of video of Randy. But now that was 3 years ago, and I don't think (to my knowledge) that she ever released anything like that. That would be interesting to see what that's about.
Bob should be able to do what he wants with these recordings, they are raw versions of songs he had a massive input in creating.

Listen, it would be great but...the Osbournes and Rhoads family would have to agree and sign off on it. The Rhoads family have a partial ownership, not a majority which the Osbournes have. The Osbournes have always taken care of Randy's family and his legacy so the Rhoads family would never go against them. The tapes CANNOT be released without the proper permission because they own the music...Bob unfortunately does not and even if he did, he'd have a minority share or would need one of the others to outvote the other...it gets complicated even without copywrites. Look at Van Halen and the mess with ADifferent Kind of Truth not being on streaming platforms because a certain member won't sign off on a new contract with Spotify because he doesn't like the music. The only other scenario is if Bob just releases all of it as a dump on every platform so it will just be out there! But he wants money for what he has..,so let's not paint Bob as being some kind of saint...he wants money too...

Bob and Lee and Randy were the Blizzard. The writers and the band, this conglomerate should be considered the reason both albums are considered the greatest .Too get rid of the rhythm players that played on the record was a crime. Randy did not want it and his voicing made no difference. Not taking away from the players chosen, Rudy was of course Randy's choice. Tommy was chased after and before the band even existed. The guys that wrote the albums were discredited and even recorded over in 2001. Sad and unfair. Randy would have never should he be alive agreed to this. Strange and really sad.
I somewhat agree but the reality of it if you look back in time and forward from that time...LOL!!! The same may have happened to Randy had he lived. Van Halen screwed Mike Anthony out of royalties to 1984 because they wanted to split his share. Had Randy lived, he may have kept writing royalties for the new project plus the first two albums, or some variation like he would have been paid as a musician and not a writer for the new project but kept the royalties for the 2 LPs...or would have it all stripped too...who knows? I believe RR remains a co-writer and producer because the Osbournes were devastated for Randy's family and the tragedy and decided against adding more headache to an already gutted situation. Blizzard was supposed to be a band project but became Ozzy and the Blizzard of Oz and/or Ozzy Osbourne. Once Bark at the Moon was successful...Jake got paid out as well. Don't know much about Zakk's deal but as Ozzy got bigger and bigger, there was less bargaining power as musicians, even Black Sabbath had to pound sand once Ozzy became so popular. As far as Randy, if he were still alive agreeing to this? Don't think he would have had much say other than his disapproval. Bob and Lee both said they loved and respected Randy as a person and a player but that once Bob and Lee were fired, Randy said he would quit too in solidarity but they told him no, that this was a great opportunity for him.

Definitely..already tried before he died.
It can be released if it's not for profit. Nobody can do anything about it unless you are making money from it. WE used to live mic club shows simply hanging two microphones from the ceiling area close to the mix position so we could play back the show. WE did it on cassette deck. Simple two mics. one left and one right and played in stereo so it worked great. There have been a few times when I thought the other guitarist was playing and always thought he was better me but we were never about that. We played harmony guitar parts and liked doing do it.

Not only that Lee Kerslake went into bankruptcy and lost his house years later. He in his last years on his death bed practically had to beg for his platinum records before he finally got them after all those years.
