I suffered from this for 6 months but have recovered. I was ready for surgery but finally saw slow improvement a few weeks prior. I did exercises, decompression, and massage. I think they all helped with my recovery. I'm careful now and still continue stretching exercises.

I broke my clavicle a year and a half ago and had surgery (plate) 3 weeks later. Immediately after the surgery I noticed a minor tingle in my arm when my head is turned to the right. A year and a half today had increasing pain and tingles, I did chiropractor for week. That made it worse, so then tried PT for 4 weeks. It was excruciating pain and had to go to ER and had Catscan and MRI. It shows that I have C5-6 acute radical apathy, but the pain is in my shoulder blade, tricep and thumb/index finger. I have an appointment with neurosurgeon and nerve doctor in a few weeks. I just want to get disc replacement so that I don’t encounter this in the near future as I have a active lifestyle.
BTW: This prognosis is 100% me. What advice can you give?

My doctor told me to straighten my sitting posture and keep my self warm. My question is do you think I should stop playing Ping Pong or Gym Workout? Does it make my condition worse in your opinion, knowing that when I warm up I dont feel any pain while exercising. Thank you.

Your videos are stellar! And the dermatone/reflex is very interesting, I never really thought about integrating that point of view before. And just to clarify, does a lack of reflex, or a weak reflex in the particular dermatone mean it’s always going to be a sign of nerve root compression? What are your thoughts? I’m also curious because for example, your patient is presenting with a more developed looking L bicep. Wound dominant hand/side of body play into your findings or treatment plan ? Thank You !!!

Is it necessary to get a second MRI months later to see whether or not the disc has healed?

I have what I believe to be C7 nerve compression, muscle in forearm started bothering me and then pain in neck about 6 weeks ago, got progressively worse sleeping on a hotel bed, got home, started decompressing the neck via chiro and home therapy. Pain mostly resolved, able to sleep better, still have slight residual pain at times, tingling, numbness etc. All that seems to be slowly getting better, but I am left with significant weakness in my left tricep. I would estimate loss of strength at 90%, no pain when working that area - how do I know when its time to see a doctor or can I just continue with stretching, nerve glides PT etc? Could benchpressing have caused a cervical polydiscopathy in my case? I went to the neuro after experiencing tingling in my left thumb and afterwards recognized also some tingling in my left bicep and posterior deltoid. Symptoms remained constant for a few weeks( at first I didn't suspect spinal issues ) so I continued as usual with my gym routine. Only after MRI confirmed cervical issues, did I start to wonder what the hell could I be doing wrong( I've been bench pressing for at least 10 years( Im 32 years old ) and last year I was doing weekly reps with +120 kg). I suspected benchpressing could press on the cervical area, I cut that exercise out and used the alternative lateral cable exercise for pectorals. Only after that did i start to notice my numbness slowly go down( I didn't ever experience any kind of pain). So many people bench press their entire lives and there isn't any contraindication about it being able to affect the cervical area so what the hell?

The way the neurologist presented the problem was more panic inducing psychologically but apparently it was much more benign than I thought.

Good question Reenesh! This varies with everyone. The jelly part of the disc can be reabsorbed by the body in some cases but can take a long time. Problem is trying to determine who should wait and who should have surgery. Always try to treat conservatively but if pain is unrelenting and weakness gets worse that is a sign that there could be more nerve damage going on that may need to be addressed surgically. I've seen too many people not fixed fast enough or were misdiagnosed and ended up with permanent disability. Best of luck!

What is it's bee 6-7 weeks with weakness? I've had deltoid and tricep weakness since herniated disc 7 weeks ago... how long is too long before it can become permanent because surgeons are saying I’m a surgical candidate and shouldn’t wait but I have no pain anymore. Just numbness and weakness. I keep praying it will go away and get better but it’s not getting better.

Painless weakness is hard to address. I agree with the physician in that decompressing the nerve can give it a better chance to heal. Keep reassessing the strength to look for improvement.

Hi, I'm having similar symptoms since one and a half month : numbness in the index and middle finger of my left hand, same pain as your patient when I'm rotating my head to the left with my chin up and loose of power in my left arm when I'm working out (push exercices only (triceps), pull exercices are o (biceps)).
Shoud it also be thoracic syndrom related ?

Thanks for the Vids! But I'm really confused right now. For example I've learned that the reference muscle for C6 is the biceps brachii and for C5 it's deltoideus. I checked different sources and they all say something different.. On which source do you base your examination and why?

    • @OrthoEvalPal
      @OrthoEvalPal  4 года назад +5

Hi Lionel, Yes it can be confusing. So many inconsistencies out there. Here is a C5 video. He had surgery and had C5 addressed and it took care of it. ruclips.net/video/JyKOba7PXlY/видео.html
C6 is classic loss of wrist extension. C7 triceps. I am very confident with these because I've probably seen 50 or more of each who had surgery and the relief from surgery confirms the original diagnosis.

If you have a bulged disc in the C7 causing minor stenosis well that stenosis correct itself once the minor disc bulge has healed? My pain is pretty much gone after three months I’m just curious as to whether or not the stenosis has gotten better but I can’t do another MRI just yet.

Hiya, I'm 32 and had my first baby 10mths ago. Since January I've had a electric shock/zap feeling when I press on the bottom left of my neck at the back, like where my neck starts but at the back. I also keep getting random zaps/burning/tingles under random fingernails at a time but on both hands. Do you know if this sounds like nerve pain to you?

It does. You should be evaluated for it. Giving birth can be pretty stressful to your neck. My wife had severe neck issues during birth.
