Hi Doctor and what exercises for Forestier disease . Problems neck all c niveaus also in my upper and under back facetartrose everywhere. Its very hard to live with
i have no words to describe how happy i am , haha. i was struggling for weeks, never mind few months if i recall and man it was such a pain in the ass, i couldn't sit on chair for few minutes, i couldn't tilt my head down, i couldn't look left nor right, and yesterday, i tried the sleeping method, it did feel uncomfortable, and little pain? while i was laying down, but i slept like a baby, when i woke up, the pain was drastically reduced. my sincere thankyou , i feel at peace.
Hi Jon, sleeping on my back with no pillow just a thin towel roll under my neck has been a great help for relief from the bone spurs in my neck, also a fairly flat pillow under the towel roll. I had two cushions under my knees and pillows at each side for my arms. I’ve had four night in a row now without the nerve pain going down my arms. Thank you, you are doing great work with these videos and they are very appreciated!😊
I had a bad experience with this orthopedic pillow. The problem was that you need to sleep on the thin side during sleep on the back and for sleeping on the side you need the thick side of pillow. And I sleep in different position during the night. When I was using this pillow for a years, instead fof feel refreshed I woke up with neck pain very often. And didn't understand why because all chiropractors recommends it for good health as you. When I tried to common thin pillow its feels so much better for spine and neck. I don't have so much headache anymore neither neck pain. So I think this pillow is too high for normal position and oposite put your head up as well like a thick pillow. Roll pillow seems better.

Thanks so much for this! Ive recently pulled or pinched nmmy nerves on my right hand casuung numbness and tingling for 1.5 weeks which led to neck pain. Per mri, i have a trace bulge at c4-c5. Thank you for this video. I have this problem and in addition I have a previous injury to my rotator cuff on the same side. @@drjonsaunders thanks for citing your older video. It's best, in my view, to bring up Cervical Instability for every video like the one in 'How to Sleep.' Cervical problems that cause pinch nerves and/or arteries is what I was and still am experiencing. Reddit lead me Cymbalta and Dry Needling which got this pain down to the lower levels. Nothing and I mean nothing else has helped. Chiropractic Biophysics folk have helped a little bit but no other Chiropractic Methodology has worked at all. I mean Zero and I've been to a ton of chiropractors including the chiropractor orthogonal! You mentioned prolotherapy. I had a x-ray done two years ago, and it said I had bone spurs, I had something with the facet joints, and narrowing of the disc space and mild degenerative disease. I’ve been dealing with this for that long. I’m wondering if having issues like this can cause these few things? Sharp head pains in one spot that come and go almost on a daily basis just above my right temple in my scalp. A weird tingling type numbness sensation on the right side of my face near my mouth, which makes my beard hair feel prickly, that comes and goes as well on a near deli basisand lightheadedness? Afraid to go to a doctor because I’m afraid that they’re going to find something seriously wrong. I have had to sleep sitting up due to vertigo ( virus?)😵💫which has put strain on my neck instigating prior cervicogenic dizziness. Sleeping is foundational to heal.
If you haven't already, check to make sure your vertigo isn't BPPV. If it is it has an easy cure that you can even do at home. My grandmother had it and it does work if this is what you have. canalith repositioning procedure and the Lempert roll are the correction procedures for BPPV.
I've been facing a sharp pain on my mid thumb area and the radial scapular area. Both are annoying in their own way, while the thumb pain restricts me from my day to day tasks such as pinching my toothpaste or opening a ziplock the back pain makes is hard to sit or sleep, making me want to cry. Now the thumb pain has proceeded to the index finger too. I will try these techniques and I really hope they work. Do let me know if I should also go for some release therapy to my physiotherapist (radiation, ultrasound etc.) Thanks!
I sometimes sleep with one of those travel neck pillows, it snaps in the front So as I transition between my sides and my back, my neck is always supported.
Great video! Do you have any recommendations for specific pillow brands? I've tried a towel under my neck, and I've tried a pillow under my knees, but gave up on both because the neck towel caused the blood to rush to my head, and after about 30 mins, my legs would go numb from the knee pillow. Not sure what I'm doing wrong, but knowing what kind of pillows I should get might help. Thanks so much!

I sleep on my couch which is fairly new but very squishy. It’s not ideal and I dislike the squish. I prefer a firm mattress or the floor. Would you recommend the floor over this couch? I currently have a pinched nerve in my neck and have tried many of these suggestions on my own just trying to find relief! All of my pillows are flat so I am going to try a rolled up thicker towel. Thank you for your video!
I went to see a physical therapist to do my back surgery and he told me after one session how much my pain would go away. It's normal for me to do exercises at home as well.
I feel relief in my neck, if I lay down on the side and the affected side of my neck (left) is up. However, I cannot find position for my left arm, in which it would not hurt. The pain in the arm eventually becomes so bad, I have to give up and lay on my back again. But I can´t fall asleep laying on my back, so I have been sleeping really badly lately.
I also do the supine neck stretch off the end of the bed with a thick foam roller under my neck. I also found that hanging both my arms behind me off the end of the bed adds to the traction effect, and that seems to help. What is your opinion on this?
@@drjonsaunders I have a longstanding problem with my dorsal scapular nerve, as revealed in your informative video. Why do you have the comments turned off on that video?
Hi Dr Jon, I recently diagnosed with C6 and C7 Cervical Radiculopathy and I am struggling what are the best therapy I can do to revert my condition apart from having the surgery. When I follow your stretch/traction exercise I feel pain on my shoulder blade and the numbness feeling on my left arm still exists. Should I continue? Will the pain and numbness feeling gone one day? Thanks.
I am experiencing a pinched nerve in neck with pain in shoulder and down arm. Are there any types of exercise you should not do? Is it ok to run? Or to lift weights? Or what sort of exercise should be avoided? I have tried to run a couple times and it doesn’t seem to aggravate my symptoms and more than they already are.
@drjonsaunders please do a cervical spondylosis video for sleep and treatment. I have cut all sugar and stopped smoking and started Acupuncture. I have had enough of pain killers and injections. Regards from Japan.
Number one, i cant sleep with pillow between my legs. Number 2, i have a reflux problem, so have to sleep with my head up a bit high. Ive tried the rounded pillow, even though i tend to sleep on my stomach, (habit i picked up 50 years ago after having babies.) i start in right position, but end up on my stomach, and dont ask me where my head ends up😂 will try your method, but heres hoping.....
I have both problems. I also had a knee replacement. I have a small but firm cushion that I put between my knees. The relief on my back is immediate. When I lie on my back and partially on the side, I put that same cushion in the small of my back.
I bought one of those pillows about a year ago and it caused shooting pain down both my arms. I can’t have anything touching the area between the base of my head and my neck or it exacerbates the pain so when I see this trying to put the pillow on my neck, I don’t understand because I can’t do that. Desperate for some relief on steroids getting a second MRI is now I think the disk is definitely herniated bulging. The nerve pain is everywhere it’s debilitating.
Question! 😊 I’m seeing my chiropractor for a pinched nerve in the brachial plexus. However, it is definitely coming from a massive knot at the top of my right shoulder, which has been there for a very long time, and progressively got worse, into this. It feels like concrete when trying to release it. Will a massage therapist be able to get the job done? Thank you! 😊
A massage in addition to your chiropractic would be your best bet, as the muscle is likely tight due to the nerve irritation. I hope you feel better soon!
So I'm a bit confused. I have 3-4 herniations from my C2-C7, and I work at the computer a lot so I have a bit of a forward head posture (upper-cross syndrome? heard this might be a myth). To combat this I've been doing chin tucks and a whole range of other neck movements. But I feel like I have a pinched nerve since my upper trap has a lot of pain/soreness. When I tried these two stretches, the variation where I'm pronated on the bed with my head tracking forward is providing a ton of relief. But isn't this contributing more to my forward head posture? I am conflicted as the movements/exercises that are supposed to improve my forward head posture are seemingly making my pinched nerve worse. Unsure of the reasoning for these contradictory symptoms.

Hi I do have neck stiffness and shoulder pain too it feels like muscle tension when I rotate my head left or right / stretching, is it related to nerve pinch or muscle soreness? I do feel a bit pain when I press abit near C6/ C7.. Also, can post throat sore or tonsils can cause this too?
Can you please talk about exercises for people who have constant pain bc of klippel feil syndrom and at the same time, disk degenerative on other cervical bones?
I’ve been sleeping with a pillow under my arm for support after shoulder surgery for years. I just can’t find a comfortable position though with my median nerve issue from my neck.
Ok thanks for all the great information. Just order two different cervical pillows and the traction that helped me is the one that you are looking up at the ceiling. Wow that felt good. How often can I do it?
Can i use a regular pillow for side sleeping? Since having my csection ive been suffering from a pinched nerve in my neck on the right side for almost a month on and off which causes slight nausea. Any advice would be greatly appreciate the discomfort often radiates to my back and shoulder.

Is it normal for pinched nerve to be in your back arm and leg its on my left side ive found four trapped nerves on my left side they are painful and its giving my left leg this annoying irritation where i cant keep it still its so annoying and makes me want to cry and has me feeling like i would be better off without this leg it started with my left shoulder i had to go hospital the pain was bad sweating like i had a fever ive had this now for almost two month's its got worse ive a big line down my spin a bruise my lower back is so tight it feels like ive pulled a muscle also im finding spots on me they is no bruises but if you touch it makes you call out in pain its so sharpe ive tried to push past the pain by digging fingees in omg it starts to give a burning feeling from within where the pain is ive assumed its a nerve ive got four two in my ledt arm one in my left leg at the top on my side them ive got one in my left shoulder also my neck hurts i no this may seem stupid but seriously its made me feel suicidal because it literally feel like im stuck like this its been two months almost now and its still not gone it really hurts please can you help me where im from we can't see a doctor its terrible here has been since covid please can you help me im struggling
I'm sorry to hear, however it is possible to have pinched nerves in both your neck and lower back at the same time. Please see my videos on neck pinched nerves and sciatica for help. Best wishes.
I suffer from vertigo. How do I do neck stretches that will relieve my neck pain, but NOT trigger my vertigo? When lying on my back, I cannot lift my head up due to neck pain. A week ago, I woke up just fine and as the day progressed, my neck became painful and stiff. I don’t know why and after a week, it has not gotten any better. Please share a video that addresses this need. Thank you!
That is a very tough question, as it will depend on what positions trigger your vertigo/dizziness and then choosing the right exercises for your condition. It may be best to get some professional help for your particular case. Best wishes.
Search Carol Foster MD, Vertigo Treatment Oct 11 ten years ago. I've shared this with so so many people. If you neck need alignment Seek assistance with that the video works even if the neck is out of alignment. The more it is the less it is helpful. When the neck is In alignment the vertigo stays away. I'm only 18 year old and took an x ray scan and the doc told there's no problem but i didnt take mri.. My vit D, B levels are also good.. I'm hopeless sir could u pls tell me how to get rid of it.. I have seen your videos about pinched nerve stretches with our hand but when i do it i get a shooting pain throughout the hand and the source region(neck)when i stretch my hands so should i continue doing it although i feel pain anyway i feel relieved after doing those stretches so it's better to continue right??.. Lockdown days i used to watch phone in a bad posture that caused me this chronic condition.. And it's not going away.. I get intermittent weakness tingling every day especially when i hold even small objects like phone.. I sleep on my stomach but wake up with no problem but when i sleep on side i woke up with numb hands same in back sleeping as i unconsciously shift my position and put hand in a stressed position.. Is stomach sleeping so bad although it isn't causing me any problem in the morning.. My neck is kinda stretched when i stomach sleep but have no pain in morning.. When this condition started my neck makes cracking sounds while stretching it was unusual for me before.. I am doing pushups to strengthen the area.. Anyother exercise or videos or anything to suggest doc(I am correcting my posture) I'm desperate this is affecting my daily life😭.. Is this permanent and is surgery the only resort? Because internet says like that as my condition is for 4years. Pls help
It sounds like you are doing the right things...just keep following the nerve flossing in my other video and the sleeping tips in this video. Best wishes.
Thankyou very much.Great information. I do have a question,if I sleep on my back and side,do I need to rotate the pillow all the time? Or do I pay attention to how often a favour the back compared to side and then apply your suggestion?
I can’t fall asleep on one pillow. It’s not comfortable for me. So of course I have constant neck and upper back pain from sleeping on two pillows. I tried a cervical pillow but it was too low for my comfort. Any suggestions for anyone who likes to sleep in a higher position?
I have tried this pillow and have tried soft pillow too … nothing worked … I have stiff neck for over 6 months and at times feel a sharp pain which I think might be a pinched nerve .. I can’t sleep properly at night .. Any other treatment for pinched nerve pls suggest ???

I will try these techniques and I really hope they work. Do let me know if I should also go for some release therapy to my physiotherapist (radiation, ultrasound etc.) Thanks!
I hope my video helps! Always a good idea to see your health provider for an appropriate diagnosis - best wishes!
I sympathize~from annoying to tears and back. I hope you've found some relief. Did your Dr. help?
I sometimes sleep with one of those travel neck pillows, it snaps in the front So as I transition between my sides and my back, my neck is always supported.
👍
Tq doctor
My pleasure!
No brand recommendations, just usage recommendations. :)
do you have any exercises for the t1 t2 nerve problem and pain in the rhomboid part of the back from that nerve
This may help: ruclips.net/video/0krYvmCjVv4/видео.html
In addition to pillows a towel can be rolled up to be a pillow, folded in lalf in long direction and then rolled should be pretty useful.
👍
This makes the pain worse
Sir your video not showing properly because written word's which running in below are disturbing us for comes to you... Please make change in this. Your videos is really helpful to us_ sujit from india...

Fantástico 😊
Thank you!
Thanks doc..the head tilt back helps & just a Q maybe left field.. you think hot drinks help? Seems to for me, maybe it's a tension release thing?
It's hard to say, yes it may just because you find them relaxing.
Yes, experimenting to find a comfortable position is your best bet and some find sleeping on the floor temporarily helpful.
I went to see a physical therapist to do my back surgery and he told me after one session how much my pain would go away. It's normal for me to do exercises at home as well.
I hope you find help and get relief soon!
Sorry to hear. :( Try this: ruclips.net/video/0krYvmCjVv4/видео.html
I also do the supine neck stretch off the end of the bed with a thick foam roller under my neck. I also found that hanging both my arms behind me off the end of the bed adds to the traction effect, and that seems to help. What is your opinion on this?
Yes if you can tolerate it, go to it. :)
@@drjonsaunders I have a longstanding problem with my dorsal scapular nerve, as revealed in your informative video. Why do you have the comments turned off on that video?
Sorry should have watched the whole video before asking my question. Thanks
No problem.:)
Thanks.
Sorry to hear, it may be best to see your local chiropractor for help with correction and or cervical decompression therapy.

Do you have any videos on L5 spondylosis? Thanks.
No, but will add it to my list of future videos!
@@drjonsaunders Thanks so much!!!
You got this! :)
Reflux - change your diet.
:( Sorry to hear.
What is the purpose of the traction in the mornings? I felt tightness through my right deltoid from being on my back and letting my head hang.
No special time for traction...whenever convenient! Best wishes.
Hi doc, the prone one seems to be relieving, but the opposite one Supine seems to send the pain straight down my arm into my 3 fingers
Question! 😊
I’m seeing my chiropractor for a pinched nerve in the brachial plexus.
@@drjonsaunders Why thank you, sir!
You’re saying it’s tight because of the pinched nerve, not the other way around. Hmmm…
Good to know! 👍🏼😊
What cervical pillow do you recommend?
That is a tough question...without seeing your posture, it is very difficult for me to say...please watch my video on pillows.

Hi Dr. Saunders,I went to the Orthopedic and i have Cervical spine osteoarthritis from C4-C7. He subscribed Muscle relaxation pills Norgesic and Algofren anti inflammatory pills for 10 days+ wearing 2-3 hours per day a colar of 9cm in height +Psysio therapy sessions. My question : After doing this therapy, is there a more natural and up keep solution for pain free in the future? Can you please give me some advice on my disc stenosis? I appreciate your videos and I have subscribed! Thank you for your feedback.😊
Yes, just follow some of my other videos on good posture and it should help you stay well. Take care!
I use a water pillow. It is the best ever. Mediflow makes them.
Thanks for watching and sharing.
It may be a nerve, but really to know for sure you would need to get an examination. Best wishes.
@@drjonsaunders thank you !! i do have my appointment today. Will keep updating
Can you please talk about exercises for people who have constant pain bc of klippel feil syndrom and at the same time, disk degenerative on other cervical bones?
Sure, will add it to my list if future videos!
if the problem is on the left side should i sleep on the right side? left side is the hand that has issues from a disc issue.
Follow the advice in my video, but it may take some time trying a few positions before finding the best one for you. Take care.
Can you please recommend a good neck pillow!!

I’ve been sleeping with a pillow under my arm for support after shoulder surgery for years. I just can’t find a comfortable position though with my median nerve issue from my neck.
I'm sorry to hear that - please see my other sleep position videos to see if you can find something that works for you. Best wishes.
Ok thanks for all the great information. Just order two different cervical pillows and the traction that helped me is the one that you are looking up at the ceiling. Wow that felt good. How often can I do it?
Glad it was helpful! Do it daily. :)
Wow! Thanks for answering me so quickly. No one ever answers!!!
Can i use a regular pillow for side sleeping? Since having my csection ive been suffering from a pinched nerve in my neck on the right side for almost a month on and off which causes slight nausea. Any advice would be greatly appreciate the discomfort often radiates to my back and shoulder.
Yes a regular pillow can work.
How are you feeling now? How’s your pinched nerve?
What about sleeping on travel pillows? I have a small neck there are times that I wake up with a stiff neck. It’s pretty hard to find thin pillow
Yes that could work. All the best.
I have pain on both arms triceps fingers wrists elbow what do I have do to relief or recover from it . I get this pain after workouts while in middle of a sleep and morning can’t sleep

What if you are a side or tummy sleeper?
Watch whole video. :)
If you have had surgery and developed a pinched nerve on lower disc which would be best
That will take some experimenting to find which one is most comfortable. Best wishes.
I have been suffering from neck and shoulder pain for 5 years CT scan says everything is normal

I'm sorry to hear, however it is possible to have pinched nerves in both your neck and lower back at the same time. Please see my videos on neck pinched nerves and sciatica for help. Best wishes.
How long days do it takes to solve pinched nerve in the neck?
It's different for each person...4-6 months is typical.
what if our natural curve in the neck is backwards?
That would be a cervical kyphosis, I have a video on that coming in next few weeks.
Do the vertigo video twice the same day . Am/pm life changer. If you don't see a chiropractor, see an osteopath they are outstanding and gentle

Are you recovered bro?
What does it mean if it hurts my neck to do the supine exercise but it doesn’t hurt to do the first stretch/exercise?
It's hard to know without examining you unfortunately. Best wishes.
Thankyou very much.Great information.
I do have a question,if I sleep on my back and side,do I need to rotate the pillow all the time?
Or do I pay attention to how often a favour the back compared to side and then apply your suggestion?
That is a great question - it can work both ways - I personally have trained myself into a habit of flipping the pillow when I change positions.
I had car accident. Ans now i have bad neck pain. I took Xray and docter said their is changes in CS
I hope you find my videos helpful!
My scapula has been dislocate before 3 month then after adjustment the pain in shoulder to hand .in mri doc says normal what I do please help me 😢

I have tried this pillow and have tried soft pillow too … nothing worked … I have stiff neck for over 6 months and at times feel a sharp pain which I think might be a pinched nerve .. I can’t sleep properly at night .. Any other treatment for pinched nerve pls suggest ???
Numbness in arm and shoulder is another symptom which I feel during pinched nerve

Is it normal to feel dizzy when i try the lying on my back position?
No, you should see a health care provider to get an appropriate diagnosis - best wishes.
Good luck seeing someone soon and when you do get in, they will just prescribe pills. Not actually fix the problem!
If you have vertigo, can that make you have neck pain, with tingling down the top of your arm?
Likely 2 different issues, but would need to examine you to know for certain - best wishes.
