Updated spreadsheet will be uploaded later this week with Leven & Cameron Bridge on it. Along with a few corrections
Will it have station codes aswell? :p
Might just be me, but just in case, I think Hayes and Harlington is in the wrong place and is where Hayes (Kent) is meant to be
@@Trainspotting_Mayhem Corrected 👍
@@actuallyneon I've not done it as I don't feel the need for it.
Can you update Northern Ireland too. like Yorkgate is now York Street, Londonderry waterside is now Derry~Londonderry, Belfast Central is now Lanyon place and Great Victoria Street is now closed
Well Nick that was very interesting, but as I am 77 years old I am now completely confused but in complete awe of your skill on the PC. Keep up the good work, holidays will be here soon.....
Very interesting video Nick, Thanks for this
Best video yet! Thank you so much, Nick! This is just what I’ve been looking for.
Thank you so much Nick! This is super helpful
Really useful - I downlaoded the database then, after looking at it, made a couple of augmentations to suit my needs.
Because I've travelled a fair bit without getting off at every stop, I added a 'Via' option, added a 'Stations Via' entry to the Totals and, in order to give an easier way to see the totals, added a %age calculation: I also added Heritage Lines (because I've travelled on a few), giving a total of 2,879 stations - it looks nice, thanks Nick.
Good spreadsheet use. Well done Nick. I may use some items for something else.
You can import the second spreadsheet into the same layer so you don’t have to do everything twice
Keep up the great work nick badley
Great video, never knew about most of these things, will try it all out soon!
Thank you Nick, very useful.
I shall definitely be doing this.
Very very clear tutorial!
Great video! Now that you've done this can you please show us how you make your animations for when you move in your videos?
Your the best RUclipsr ever never forget that
Thank you for this explaner video I have just created my own map.
Wow, Very Useful Nick, your additional vocation in life, Teaching Excel and Google My Maps, Thanks very much
:-)
This would be even better if you made the spreadsheets for each line / train operator, and then used those to make each layer in my maps. It's probably more management, but I imagine it looks a a lot better to view than just 1-2000 and 2000+ on a Google map
On everylaststations's excel file, filter the TOC you want and only import that data.
Nick are planning on visiting Leven & Cameron Bridge when it opens?
Fascinating. I don't promise to do it though - it'd take me weeks, as I'd have to keep checking back, I suspect!
OMG I need this in my life being a map nerd.
I've been to a fair number of stations just by travelling to different places for whatever reason. I've been to (got on or off or changed): Avoncliff, Bath Spa, Bond Street, Bradford-on-Avon, Branksome, Brighton, Bristol Parkway, Bristol Temple Meads, Brockenhurst, Cambridge, Cardiff Central, Carmarthen, Chetnole, Clapham Junction, Clifton Down, Crewe, Custom House, Didcot Parkway, East Dulwich, Edinburgh, Filton Abbey Wood, Fratton, Freshford, Frome, Guildford, Haslemere, Heathrow Terminal 5, Imperial Wharf, Llandeilo, London Bridge, London Liverpool Street, London Paddington, London St Pancras, London Victoria, London Waterloo, Nailsea & Backwell, Newport (South Wales), Oxford, Peckham Rye, Plymouth, Port Talbot Parkway, Portsmouth Harbour, Reading, Redruth, Romsey, Ryde Esplanade, Shanklin, Southampton Airport Parkway, Southampton Central, Stansted Airport, Sugarloaf, Swindon, Taunton, Tottenham Court Road, Warminster, Westbury, Weston-Super-Mare and Willesden Junction.
Just did this for my totals. And I discovered that I hadn't marked off that I'd dome Stratford, for some reason.
Teesside Airport isn't listed. Which, on one hand it's had its service suspended since 2022, but on the other, it isn't officially closed.
Doing this makes me realise how much I still have to do in the South East, which I should be able to do on day trips...
Teesside Airport station is closed. Officially or not, you can't board a train there, or even gain access to the platforms. Only included stations on the spreadsheet that you can actually visit. (Except Altnabrek which will be removed from the spreadsheet in due course.)
thanks for this tutorial nick! can you do how to create the graphics (the one with the route like liverpool - chester) please?
I think this is a sign I need to transfer the list of stations I've been to from my notepad app on my phone to this 😅
Good with the west Highland line, it will take you months
Really interesting. It would be good to be able to add the colour the rail lines onto it too
You can, but it might have to be done manually
The closest I’ve got is a hand drawn map of the rail lines I’ve been on. However, I’ve been on every passenger rail line in Britain bar 4 😃
Would you ever consider visiting stations in Northern Ireland as well as Ireland. Asking for a friend.
Never forget your awesome.
I am surprised 2,000 rows of data are seen as a lot by Google Maps. It's nothing compared to the amount of data Google holds.
I'm also surprised that one can only upload 2,000 rows at a time.
If it was 200,000 rows of data, that would be something else.
Very interesting video, and I say this as someone who is a professional cartographer and now works at maintaining address and street gazetteers for a couple of local authorities.
This is a great idea! But I don't have many visited stations so my map is mostly red 😭
thanks nice video could you please do exploring the scotrail express line
I still do this the old fashioned way, with the rail atlas by S K Baker
Nice video! Can you do All the Stations on the Tyne and Wear Metro please!
I have a link on the downloads page for the Tyne & Wear metro. Click on "Metro Stop Visiting Logs"
I've done something similar with a similar spead sheet and all the stations incl heriatage on maps
bro said sporlding (sorry i giggled)
question
douse this include heritige lines. if not could you add them???
Do Chesterfield to Nottingham to Derby to chesterfield (all EMR)
Cheers
Do you count stations you have actually gotten off at or just been through without getting off?
The definition of "visiting a station" we use is to board or alight a train at the station, and this can't be getting of the train and back on the same one unless it's a different headcode.
Can you do this in an Apple world? I never really trust Google with my data!
Yet you literally are commenting this on a Google account with your name and face 🤣🤣
how do you add new stations when then open
can you make one for belgium pls
Does this include stations your train has stopped at or only stations you've alighted at?
Depends on what definition of "Visit" you use!
I personally do board and/or alight at a station.
You could even make 2 maps, one for stopped and one for boarded/alighted!
@@NickBadley I’m just gonna do all the ones I’ve stopped at.
I've always wondered this too. Geoff visited every station..but went by definition of train stopped at due to time restraints. But I know a lot don't count that as having visited them
Hav u benn to hairmyres station😊
Seems a lot easier than what I did - all stations as normal, then up to 4 people can have their own tally, of either passed through, boarded or alighted at the station, or only passed by on a Rail replacement bus. That isn't hard, what took the time was the second sheet which has the map of the UK! All cells sized and coloured in manually, with stations linked by red lines and includes closed stations, closed lines in grey, proposed and under construction stations and lines in purple and heritage lines and stations in green, though open stations are on the map by their 3 letter code, though a note will tell you what they are. London is very crowded though! Other tabs have the countries Metro systems. I'm glad I'm not the only one who has a spreadsheet to keep track though!
can someone please do this for airports
Is there something like this for USA/CAN stations? This looks so cool!
Nick have you been to Cambridge and Cambridge north and be ready for Cambridge south to open as the newest station in the uk
I did this on a mac
Go to Oban 😀😊
I like oban i have been twice
having never been to the north (i really want to gonbut its too expensive) my map (which i wil make soon) will look bery embarassing
What if I don’t know where I am?
