So for those curious as to why this is being called the 'grand finale', it's basically for two reasons. The first is this is what I consider to be the 'last great Earthrise video', and after this I'm going to ease up my complaints about the line. Enough is enough; I don't want to become a broken record.
The second reason is that from episode 115 onwards, there will be a format change. Some things are going to improve, whilst other things are sadly going to be compromised.
    - due to my family being forced to move house, I won't have a proper recording space. Video production won't slow down, but I going forward I won't have many shots where I'm facing the camera. Videos will become more 'video-essay-like'. The new format will take some getting used to, but I hope I can deliver the same quality I've always provided.
    - Production will switch to a newer version of adobe. As such, I'll actually be taking a week off video production to properly learn the new program. The next episode, which will cover Kingdom Airazor, will release on the 27th.
    - A new camera will be implemented. Was supposed to purchase it already...but this video took so long that I had no time to pick it up.
    - Transformation sequences will also have better audio quality. Nothing major; just a simple upgrade.
Videos aren't going anywhere, but in light of coming events, things sadly have to change. Until then, I hope I'll see you for a Nintendo E3 stream on Tuesday night, and after that it's back to work!
EDIT: The music is also going to change. InsaneInTheRain has requested people stop due to copyright. Going to switch to video game OSTs. Hopefully my identity won't change too much.

First of all, super hyped that you’re actually doing the review. I understand not wanting to become a broken record - though I don’t think you reached that point yet, it was sooner or later before someone made that comment. Second, that’s totally ok. Life can be the worst sometimes, and for the most part things are going to get better, so it’s stuff to look forward to! I hope you and your family stay safe and have a solid, easy move.

      Issues i have with figure:
I dont hate partsforming as intently as dr lockdown, but i do recognise it as a flaw in the design.
The loose waist does bug me though. Its kinda annoying, there really should’ve been a tab included somewhere to keep the waist stable. Although it does provide a faux backward chest movement, which is somewhat useful in making him fly backwards in the air.
Edit: forgot to mention, the paint is probably one of the worst on my collection. The paint on the chest has already begun to be removed.

Great review. While I personally love this Cliffjumper, and most of Earthrise for that matter, I can see why you don't. Your argument presented in this video is strong, and even if I don't completely agree with your conclusions, that is fine. It's ok to have different opinions about plastic robots, and it's ok to not freak the hell out of someone has a different view/experience than you.
Anyways, I really enjoyed this video, and am looking forward to future ones!

With the mention of gunpla partsforming they absolutely need it. Gunpla is designed as a model kit first and a figure second. Every transforming kit I've handled except for one has been a complete nightmare.

  • @greninjazac4577

Honestly, for owning this figure myself, I didn’t really have a problem with the parts forming. I understand the annoyance and all, but I’m the kind of person that’s bothered by parts forming if the parts aren’t incorporated into the figure. High grade Gundam kits are a good example, as their transformation actively requires replacing parts. HOWEVER, the part forming only poses one true problem……QC roulette. While I had no problems with Cliffjumper….my Bug Bite on the other hand has their peg loose, so it can’t even connect to the back. I might be lax with the whole situation considering that I’m still new to reviewing stuff on the gundam amino, but my idea of a figure comes down to one thing….is it fun to handle? Can I pose it without the joints giving out or the ratchets causing the figure to bend forward like it let out a small fart? Is the transformation end with a vehicle mode that tabs in unlike runamuk and DoubleDealer? I consider a lot more when it comes to a figure, which I guess shows that everyone views things differently and thus have a variety of opinions determined by our own perceptions of a figure. But I do agree with you on the bullshit regarding unicron trilogy abandonment as I too want to see wider representation so I can buy figures that aren’t the same characters…..like seriously, sideways needs an update to his cybertron figure….like really needs it

For some reason people expect Masterpiece quality on Hasbro figures but make excuses for shit quality on actual Masterpiece figures. They complain about kibble and faux parts on Hasbro figures all the time and I just want to slap them, I’ve even told some of them that I want to slap them. My guess with Cliffjumper’s parts forming is that maybe the reason it’s built around the parts forming is because they couldn’t figure out how to do the design without the parts forming. And to make that work, they built the next draft of the design around that. And due to that parts forming, the rest of the transformation is allowed to shine as much as it does.

11:34 Okay to be fair, Model Kit plastic can be extremely brittle, so making the cheaper HG kits into Full-on Partsformers is actually the wiser decision. They tried making a smaller-scale kit that was fully transformable, and it was so brittle that most people ended up having their kits break after 1-2 transformations. seriously though, fuck the RG, it's a Hand-Grenade waiting for the right moment to just explode into pieces on you. the Larger scale MG kit is fully transformable without Parts-forming..

  • @reyonXIII
    @reyonXIII 3 года назад +1

Yep, as I suspected. What definitely is the problem is not so much Cliff's partsforming, but what it represents. It makes the bad quality even worse, because it both is the culmination of a festering problem that people are oblivious to, while setting a new rotten precedent, which many excuse.
And that's what makes it more damning than being a mere engineering shortcut.
It's like what I recently said in the ER Scream video, about what his choice of engineering represents with Arcee and Ultra Magnus as victims.
How people let that go so easily is baffling, among other things. Especially Geewunners who excuse Arcee's proportions and Magnus' Kingdom looks.
TBH, I got this guy for the car mode, NGL. The Mitsubishi Starion-esque aesthetic awoke something in me in terms of car appreciation. Not enough to join my friends in being an enthusiast, but if this thing was a real car, this WOULD be my perfect car, aside from possibly the Cybertronian Lamborghinis.
It also made me enjoy the boxy yet angular 90s aesthetics of cars, like Initial D's AE86 Trueno.
I will stand by that the Vanettes' roof shields are better done, coz they look like sturdy AF tower shields, and ones that are big enough to bash some poor fool's "brains" in. But I'm not gonna argue they're "good". I like them, and they're the only ones I will say I like, but doesn't mean I won't shit on them for what they are.
And yes, I'd actually rather take the pure partsforming than the upgrade kit, hypocritical as that sounds.
Oh ok, so it's not just mine that feels a bit floppy on the waist.
I won't deny I'm one of these complainers. I mean, look at this entire spiel I'm writing, and those I've written before.
But I'd like to hope that I'm framing these as points to bounce discussion from. I've certainly not done well about it, but it's an exercise in trying to be better at it. I know it's annoying for you and others to sit through these essays, but my thoughts can't be condensed so easily.
Overall, I'm happy with this guy, but same as you, what he embodies will always fester in my mind. AI got more minor thoughts, but I won't bog you down with them. This take on the ramifications on fandoms' opinions and how much the company kowtows is very thought-provoking.
Kudos and thanks, Doc, for this long-awaited video. Primus-speed on the changes going forward, in life and presentation.

Personally, I’d never buy any of those highly articulated and screen accurate, but non-transforming figures, but I’ll immediately accept partsforming if it sees a transforming figure get closer to what makes those non-transforming figurines so appealing. Additionally, I feel partforming is always better than engineering that impairs articulation or makes the figure look ‘off.’

Wanted to buy Hubcap because I needed a new toy for him even though he had horrible partsforming, then found Netflix Bumblebee at Kmart and had to get it to flex on my friend in Malaysia and my buds in America... then felt like I had to complete the trilogy with Cliffjumper when he was discounted at Myer. The partsforming… no doubt about it, it’s very lazy, and antithetical to the appeal of Transformers, but in the case of Cliffjumper, the piece ends up somewhere in both modes, and in stop motion, where the partsforming should be hidden, it can look alright. And the retool of Bumblebee doesn’t look bad either. I definitely would’ve preferred they had integrated everything into the transformation, but in this specific case, I’m not worked up about it.

If I had money, I only buy a bumblebee version, walmart probably made a smart move since he's one of the most popular characters, I don't care how much partsforming effects the thing even if that guy (not you of course) himself punches the thing in almost every video, I don't hate him but I do disagree with some of his opinions on ER, and I like it that they made him an actual proportionally accurate volkswagen beetle, sure most GEEWUNNERS and cartoonists might hate it (even the person I meantioned earlier) but then again if the cartoon was gonna go for the choro Q thing might as well put a panel at the back, I think what would be better if it's attatched onto a peg on some hinges, with the other end attatched to one of the arms, and you would fold it so cliff would have the shield on his arm without partsforming, I am going off of the animated cybertronian mode optimus, which I think handles partforming weapons better where you don't have to take them off, if ironhide is getting a new mold for studio series bumblebee should get one too

I can't say if your final score was more so ironic than fair, cause even with all you said, a 3/5 would have made more sense, or even a 2.5/5, the ultimate mediocrity. But it's your video and this one had been a long time coming. Good thing you finally got it off your chest
I also wanted to tell you about the first WFC figure that I bought, which is Kingdom Warpath whom I absolutely love. I've never had a toy which feels this good to play and have a jolly time with. But sadly.. after seeing how you seem to have soured on him too and seem to hate him as well to some regard, even though it was your Warpath Versus video that sold me on the figure, now I don't know if I should expect you to be disappointed with my purchase or be happy with it. saying "kibble has always existed in transformers" isn't a good reason for not having clean backs. Cyclonus and warpath have practically no kibble. Earthrise Optimus has a cleaner back than siege and they gave you the option to remove the remaining kibble cause it was left on an easily removable clip. Saying (blank) has always been a part of (blank) is not good reasoning. Eating meat has always been a part of life until it isn't, things can always improve. I don't mind back kibble that much but kibble is still kibble and transformers are better without them. I like cliff jumper despite its parts forming because I really enjoy the transformation so the parts forming doesn't bother me that much. I think if cliff jumper was a bit bigger maybe closer to the size of warpath we could have had the best of both worlds.

Ehhh, I'm of the mindset that back kibble IS something that can compromise a figure more than parts that can be separated and re-attached to the robot. Cliff jumper looks better with the shield in hand than it garishly hanging of his back. They're Three dimensional and Decently poseable; Wide splits stances pointing them against the enemy figures from a variety of angles is always nice to have. And besides, you can flip the plug down and make him hold it like an actual shield, with the curved section of the Boot facing up.
