  • I explain why iracings iRating does not matter so much once you get above a certain irating and why even at lower iratings you should not care about your irating and instead just enjoy the racing.

    Thanks for the like and sub ! - Worth saying that the one time it is worth having a really high i-rating is if you intend to do the really large 12/24 hour iracing events and you went to be in the top split or high splits for them in that case having 6k+ iratings make a difference.
    Mind you this then causes the issue of people having separate accounts to not lose iRating or them only driving in high Strength of field races / private races or only racing very specific content that they are 100% up to speed in as the risk of losing a ton of rating is really high ( especaily as even in the top splits you still often have really bad driving , back markers causing wrecks and generally unavoidable stupid crashes)

      I been saying this for a while. Around that 2500 mark you start getting put in the top split for most non special events. I'm at 3800 now, so always top split except for the big events. The skill gap is so big at times. When you are running against 5,6,7k+ guys every race you have to have the mindset of not having a chance of winning so I just try not to lose IR. As far as on track battles they seem to be much rarer when you hit the 3k+ mark. That's why I been more interested in leagues since there seems to be more close competition in my experience. I do agree though, I don't really care about IR like I did when I first started.

    Great point at the end about the different series. I wish they would split open wheel and GT stuff.
    I was trying to get 3k a couple of seasons ago and it was an incredibly frustrating experience as I had to basically stick to one series and I wasn’t having fun.
    Driving multiple series it now bounces between 2.4K and 2.8k but I’m actually enjoying myself. Not the best iRating I know, but good enough to race against the fast guys and see just where I am.

    • @iseeq72
      @iseeq72 2 года назад +1

      Yeah, well, what did you expect? If you want a 3k or above, you have to be committed to mainly one series, because you need to invest a lot of time with:
      - practicing/learning the track/car combo until you get competitive pace
      - you need racecraft, that includes alternative lines, safe racing, reading and predicting behaviour of the other competitors etc.

      I started 2 weeks ago and my iRating has gone up by about 400, and it's been kinda hovering between a 1.2-1.4ish. What's been hurting me is I've been mainly focusing on SR, meaning I'm starting from the back and not really pushing too hard. just goin for a Sunday drive. well, made class C (I'm an oval guy) and the trucks are so different from the ARCA cars and I can't seem to find pace at some of the tracks. so I decided not to race trucks. but I did my first race last night and found out my style driving in the trucks works better for me cuz I end up having better tires at the end of a run and can then long pit of a caution comes out. if a caution doesn't come out, I'll be towards the back but hey, I'll eventually find pace

    It puts me off trying other cars as I don't want to lose IR. I treat it more like a real life though. Choose a series to focus on for the season.
    Most people don't have time to properly learn multiple cars, enough to be safe. irating vanity has the bonus effect of people trying to protect it, otherwise even more people would always go for the risky send.

    Thanks so much for this. I've never played iracing before. Don't think I will (based on the cost) but I think every sim racing title should have a rating on your profile for every car and every track. So your rating might be 1000 in a mx-5 but may well be 500 in a Ferrari gt3. Same with track, 1000 based on your performance around Spa might be 1000, whereas Imola is 500. That way, whatever it is yoh focus on more, will have you have better rating in something you drive less, so when driving gt3, which you haven't done so much, would put you in a lower split.

The guy well behind me had TONS of time and space to slow down.. or avoid me entirely.. instead he smashed into me. then hes stuck on me. What he decided to do was then throttle it and turned one collision into 3 instantly. completely destroying my chance at a irating improvement.
      It might be great when you finally get out of the pits of hell.. but its complete crap aand feels impossible to get out of this hell. Once I hit over 1500k, I realized the massive skill gap of the aliens and top splits. Suddenly podiums were very difficult to qualify for. Now I'm practicing the track a week in advance and really learning how to squeeze those tenths of a second and it's brilliant. Can't wait to consistently face top splits. It's motivating and humbling.

    • @iseeq72
      @iseeq72 2 года назад +1

      That‘s the spirit! A lot of people here have no idea, what a non-alien has to invest to get to competetive lap times (not even including the racecraft/experience).
      Being on a 4k+ in a specific series, I still encounter aliens that nevertheless shove off another 0.5 to 1sec compared to my times, no matter what I invest in practice/learning. But these „aliens“ are far fewer than most guys here think. 90% of labelled aliens are just regular guys doing more practicing and are willing to go a certain extra mile.

    • @IvanLaraMainar
      @IvanLaraMainar Год назад

      I totally agree. I enjoy a single series/car, as I enjoy practicing a circuit a few days before it’s up, just pursuing the last tenth and the “perfect” raceline. I really enjoy understanding a car, as it was my third arm. iRating it’s not important as you can compare yourself with how many practice the other people is having, how long the other people has been racing is SIMs or real life, or your intrinsic skills. Ultimately, the only trick here is time and persistence, not skills really.

      You could do 6 lap races with AI repeatedly and keep turning there difficulty up , that way you will learn how to get good at the first 4 laps which is where most people crash and then lose it.

    Race number less than 15 (top of your split)qualify as high as you can.
    Race number at bottom of split skip qualifying & start at the back.Qualifying higher up if you are towards bottom of your split makes the race a struggle from Lap 1.

      irating is elo based but due to a bunch of factors again doesn't really reflect skill very well.

      Anything lower than 7k and somone is probably driving really badly has massive skill holes.

    • @GamerMuscleVideos
      @GamerMuscleVideos  2 года назад

      Not really aside from some series needing a specifc SR/License to join.
      But in reality SR is really easy to farm even when a driver is really unsafe when they are actually racing people / in traffic.
      Vast majority of iracers can't even hold the cars / catch a slight slide so shouldn't really even have a licence at all if it was actually a proper licence system. ( In fairness iracing physics and FFB are really unforgiving for what would just be a super easy thing to deal with in most Sims and real life)
      SR and the licence system in iracing should just be considered a way to discourage unsafe / totally wreckless driving not really a fine tines system.
      It sort of works but to be honest what stops most people outright wrecking in iracing is the risk of getting banned.

    You made the mistake there "irating generally reflects you being better or worse". It reflects your level of commitment to the game, that's really it. If you concede that it's just a game, it's nowhere near being realistic enough to use a a training tool outside of base development of racing techniques and the more time you are prepared to spend tuning and practicing any particular vehicle or track is a reflection of your results. Hence, I don't take it too seriously, despite being a real life race engineer, data analyst, driver and driving coach I CBF spending a bunch of time trying to find the exploits in the physics model to advance my irating which is just graphical representation of a bunch of 1's and 0's. iRating has no bearing on real world driving, I absolutely laugh myself silly when I see people say they are better than real drivers because they have a high irating. It's not how it works. Once you get a licence, and a car and pay all the money to prepare, enter and race the car, you have all of those financial and psychological factors introduced plus the very real possibility of death or debilitating injury and the "exploit the physics" technique used by high level sim racers doesn't cut it because unless you have a billion dollars and no responsibilities, you can't keep going out and crashing the car.

    I was about to downvote because iRating is crucial for iRacing. Not because of its pure value, but because it does what it should do: match you with drivers that are around your skill level, provided there are several splits. The number itself doesn't matter much, it's the experience that provides. If you are over, say 2.5-3k irating, you'll be top split every time, so there it doesn't matter, and if it is under 1000, you'll be bottom split.

      even with low ratings people shouldn't really fixate on it , they should just race and drive clean.

    The real problem with irating when your in the lower splits its that most of those drivers are pretty bad. They crash into you, punt you off the road....etc, your irating plummets because your always ending up at bottom or of the field. So if you're a clean but slower driver, you automatically never go anywhere. So, if your good right out the box then good for you. If your slower, but clean then your stuck in the lower tiers forever.

    There's nothing worse in iRacing than having 10 top 5 finishes with 0x's in a row.

    FALSE. iRating is how you get into better races.

      That's not true , top split is often the worst.

      @GamerMuscleVideos that's opinion.
      Clearly, higher iRating races have better drivers with higher skill levels. Going up from 1000 to 1200 is a noticeable jump in skill and driving technique.
      Wrecking happens. What professional races have zero wrecks or incidents? You've seen pro drivers pile up on the green flag before irl, yes? Those are the professionals. The elite... and they still get involved in dumb wrecks and make dumb moves.
      Also, it's sim racing. The cars aren't real, and there is zero repair bill, so drivers don't have the mentality of "I better not wreck." I see pro drivers send it a lot more mpre in game than in real life because they can test the limits of cars without the real damage. Its a different mentality for sim racing.
      But also, look how verstappen drives irl. He drives like he's in a sim. The other drivers drive like they can't wreck, like a real race. Verstappen would be in more wrecks if more drivers opposed him like in sim racing.
      Stop trying to drive like real life. Drive like verstappen. Take risks. That's what everyone else is doing. It sounds like your expecting this full simulation and others realize it's still just a game. Your mentality is what's hurting you.
