Yaaas Forest! More video and please tell me specifically what specs to look for to find out if my recording capabilities could be beefed up externally. Great job!
Rocky Mountain School of Photography Hi my main camera is XT3 it can record 4:2:0 10bit to sd do you think that I need Atmos ninja v recorder or just normal camera monitor will do for me.
It does have 3/8 mount by unscrewing the 1/4. There is an Australian seller on eBay that sells some screen protectors. A protector is a must and it has work great for me.
Hello 👋🏻 Well I am looking forward to buy NINJA V. But before that I got few questions in my head. 1- I got canon M-50 MARK 2 ,so is it compatible with Ninja V 2- My only reason to my NINJA V is because I wanna record 1 hour video @1080@60 with M50 MARK 2, So it that possible to continuously record for 1 hour. PLEASE DO ANSWER ME TO THIS.
1. Yes, absolutely. 2. It should be. That's a tough thing to garuntee as it really comes down to how fast the camera overheats. The way to test it is put the camera on video mode and disable all "auto power off" settings. Then leave it on for an hour and see if it still has power. If it does, you're good to go. Again, you're not recording for an hour, just seeing if the camera can be on for an hour as the Ninja will take care of the recording part of the equation. My guess? You'll have no issues recording for an hour or more!
If you watch my wide lens video at end you can see how I used smallrig cable adapter to isolate HDMI in and out to atomos to lock cables. Try it on your recorder. Works great so you do bump the HDMI in when capture video! In my comments(community) tab is a close up of wiring and cage.
Bro for anyone who needs a screen protector that you can’t even tell the ninja has a screen protector applied is this one in amazon, it’s incredible and crystal clear and fits perfect 👌🏾 Foto&Tech 2 Sets Crystal Clear HD LCD Screen Protector Compatible with Atomos Ninja V 5" 4K HDMI On-Camera Im telling u it’s amazing
Look at Andycine’s enclosure for the M Sata SSD. About 50usd for the reader and the enclosure for one ssd. Better form factor than the plastic caddy and lower price than Angelbird
How is the SSD drive working for you? I got the Angelbird AtomX SSDmini (500GB)and it is very expensive. Looking for an alternative...Also how do you get your footage off of the SSD and into your editing system?
I’ve heard this improves the image quality -if I understand your explanation correctly, it doesn’t actually improve the image quality but the color quality...?
It can improve image quality, sort of! The way I understand it is this: your dslr/mirrorless camera does two things. One, it’s captures using it’s sensor, and two, it records, by using a processor to digitise and compress the image into a file. I have a Canon M6 mk II. The sensor can capture images at 4K 30fps at 10mins 4:2:2. But it doesn’t record at 10bit in camera, presumably because the camera processor can’t handle it. However, a Ninja V can capture that 10bit quality. So in my case the Ninja V does improve image quality via a recording upgrade. But it’s all still limited by what the camera can do. A Ninja V can’t magically give me 8k, or 4k 120fps etc.
@@hautehussey Yes I sent it in and atomos confirmed it was faulty (the sound board). Waiting for the repaired device to come back. I cover the setup here: www.dropbox.com/s/mgmybvdz4ggogou/ninja_v_audio_issue.mp4?dl=0
@@forestchaput thank you for the answer to the question I have one more question for you I bought a cable, an omnicharge DC Barrel to USB type-c adapter cable that I want to plug into my 20000ma Anker power bank and then plug the other side into the atomos Ninja V will that work so that I can record for at least four or five hours straight? . It's B&H part number OMOA54A001. Also the Anker power bank im using is the one with the PD which stands for a technology that is supposed to sense whatever it plugs into's needs and deliver exactly the correct volts and amps that it needs
Great question. It's definitely noticeable. These days, I try to keep the Rode mic enough in front of the Ninja that the cardiod pickup pattern of the mic rejects as much of the Ninja sound as possible.
My monitor is reading as 59.97 when plugged into my Sony A7iii in the upper left corner (input). My camera is set to record 4k 23.976. Anyone know why this is? When I record the footage comes out as 4k 23.976. I'm not clear why it says 59.97 in the upper left. Please help!
One of the clearest descriptions of the Ninja V’s many virtues. Thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
So thorough, and I liked the real life examples of how you can use it!
Thank you!

Best video on the Ninja V on RUclips yet and I have watched a ton. Thanks!
Thank you!!!!
Very informative. I learnt a lot from your video compared to so many other youtube videos reviews on the ninja V. Thank you
Thank you!
Hey Forest. I'd love to see more on video... and thank you for putting all this out here on RUclips for us!
Heck yes! Thanks for letting us know!

Look up getting an arri with locating pins connector if you want the non rotating connection point!
Yep! Already found that since publishing. Good tip!
great vid, thx for the tips, and different use cases. really like the idea of using the ninja v sandwiched between a capture card or a projector
Thanks!
@@forestchaput if i wanted to record my phone screen on the ninja v, what additional equipment would I need?

Yep! Found that out after recording!

That's the best review in RUclips by far about that device well done man
About the ssd what should i get the you are using or the Samsung t5 1T
Thank you! I would recommend the Samsung 860 or 960 series!

Great video. Any thoughts on the best cameras to use with this? Nikon Z shoots pro res raw. 10 bit? What else?
Thank you! Best cameras in my opinion would be the Panasonic GH5, Nikon Z7, Sony a7III, Fuji X-T3, or Canon EOS R.

Anytime . Total cost with an open box Samsung 870 2 TB was about 140usd( 88 for the ssd and the rest for Andycine housing and usb C reader )

It’s been great! Fantastic. Samsung 960 EVO. I just use a USB to SATA cable to transfer.
@@forestchaput Thanks!
Can I apply a lut and record the graded footage and avoid color grading all together. Can the lut be baked in the recorded footage.
No

can you change the intensity of the luts with the atomos ninja v ?
Bring on the Vectorscope video bru.
Are you finding the fan noise a problem?
Not really. But we rarely have on-camera microphones. Usually we are using a lavalier or a mic on a boom.
Video Space Tutorials Please.
Hello. Could you cover the sound recording via analogue input? It’s crazy noisy. Totally broken.
Tassos Photography your unit is defective probably, and needs to be sent in. Unless your cable is broken or not plugged in fully.

will this keep the xt-3 from overheating while shooting 4k60 for hours at a time?
Yep! The X-T3 won't actually be recording, it will only be feeding a signal which prevents overheating.

Rocky Mountain School of Photography Thanks! I have the Ninja V too, but i used zoom h1 to record the sound. And fan noise was noticeable too.
Samsung SSD works with Ninja V?
Yep! 960 EVO.
A poor man question. Will this work with a Panasonic g85?
Does the G85 have an HDMI output? If it does, than this will work perfectly.
Rocky Mountain School of Photography it sure does, I guess that answer my question thank you 🙏
