      This is epic. I don't have a camera which it would make a massive benefit for, just the 80D for video, but how about thinking of future cameras. Like I have SSD external drives on my older MBP which help a ton for video editing but aren't able to give me full speed benefits. But when I update my Mac, those same SSD's will give me the full-throttle experience.
      How much improvement would this give an 80D or 6D2 kind of camera? Even whatever the new mirrorless from Canon I guess.
      Thanks again for all the super helpful content Matti.
      Cheers, JT

    what i love about the shot is that its shot on 24fps and not slowed it down(although i believe warp stabilzer is used) but people walking by and color transition from left to right is simply amazing.From a warmer tone to lighter white and tint of sky blue.Even though rest of thing is blurred but subject,it does look sick and eye catchy.

      ^ biggest myth in all cinematography. I'll take a $30,000 camera and a $50 lens over the reverse ANY day. It USED to be all about lenses back when everybody shot the same film stock, and the difference between Arri and Aaton was usability and (occasionally) features. But nowadays, you can do more in 10 minutes with color correction then you can do with $10,000 worth of glass. Lenses are just about the LEAST important ingredient in filmmaking now.

    Hi Matti, thank you for this awesome video. I use the Atomos Ninja on my a6500, however, I have the ninja inferno. You mentioned something about the Sony camera's and how they don't output a crazy high image out of the HDMI. I was under the impression, that we don't get the 10 bit, but we do get the higher bitrates. As you know the Sony's shoot at 4:2:0 8 bit internally, however with the recorder, they shoot 4:2:2 8 bit but their bitrate jumps to up to 220mbits per second. Even though the atomos recorder shoot in 10 bit, the extra 2 bits are not really there since the camera won't output that. So are you saying that we also lose that information in the boosted mbits per second as well?
    That would be new news to me, if you could confirm this, I would greatly appreciate it.

    Best investment I ever made other than a proper camera, was getting a proper external recorder. I always put it off as a “dream upgrade,” but I never expected it to be such a practical and very smart investment. But in hindsight, it makes perfect sense since half the job if not most of it is just seeing what you are filming!!

      I would recommend upgrading your computer. I edit 4K from a Canon 5d MARK IV in C-log on my laptop and don't even need proxy files. I have switch from Premiere to Davinci Resolve 15 and as such I am leaning towards getting real cinema cameras like the small Black Magic Cinema or the Black Magic mini URSA. Why buy a high-end camera only to spend more money on a higher end recorder when you cn get it all in one tool and reduce complication.

    • @brapperdan
      @brapperdan 5 лет назад

      3rd Eye Media don’t you find that davinci export quality is garbage? I tried using it and my videos always looked terrible, very blocky and pixelated even when using high bit rates with H.264. Premiere sucks because it’s buggy as hell but I don’t know if I could live without warp stabilizer and optical flow

    • @3rdeyemedia854
      @3rdeyemedia854 5 лет назад

      @@brapperdan No, I don't experience those issues at all. But I do have a very fast laptop with an Nvidia video card and a EVO PCIe M2 SSD. There are a lot of high-end movies being color graded and edited in Resolve. Have you tried different camera settings. I shoot in 4K C-LOG. The 5D IV captures in a very high bit-rate already. It grades very well and I can't see any noticeable difference between output in Premiere or Resolve. Also, I am told some codecs and hardware rendering are not available in the free version.

    1. How is the fan noise, your set up did not include a mic?
    2. Which scenarios would you use this for: vlogging, comercial?
    3. Did you compare the 4K with ninja vs the 4K out of camera to see the quality improvement?
    I appreciated your hard work and I love the videos, thanks!
    I have the xt3 no flip out screen and I was wondering if this would be something I can use for vlogginng and still get the benefit of the codec and 4:2:2 10 bit which the xt3 camera outputs. I have read the fan noise would not allow for you to have a mic close to the screen...

      I shoot corporate interviews with my D850 (~65% brightness, 4k 24fps, ProRes HQ), getting the Z6 filmmaker kit soon. 4k60 @ 100 brightness might need more fan speed.
      You can hear the fan noise when you're right on the camera, at 1-2' away it's a whisper. The fans ramp when you stop recording to bring the temps down quickly, that you can hear from farther away. But it quiets down soon after.

      @@TheVFXAssault You don't buy a BMPCC to take photos. AF yea OK I like a good AF because I run and gun but the fact is no AF is perfect and if you buy a BMPCC you probably want it for film making and so nailing focus is essential and the only way to do that is with manual focus. Never heard anyone say it isn't reliable. Battery life for filmmaking and doc making? I've never shot a single take longer than a few minutes. Maybe a wedding videographer might but then I wouldn't buy this camera for that I'd buy a GH5. BRAW file sizes aren't that big relatively speaking from what I've heard but maybe I'm wrong. At the end of the day you buy a camera that suits 90% of your needs and rent for the other 10%. No camera is perfect.

    Hi, Matti! Nice to see another amazing, great video!! :) When I say amazing, I mean AMAZING!! :)
    This is very kool device. One downside I found: Canon 5D mark IV can capture HD (1280 x 720) at 120 fps (119.9 fps). Ninja V can record 720p at 50/60fps only.
    Not mentioning full HD, I'd rather film 720p than 4K. Way too laptops don't have even full HD screens. Same goes for phones.
    I don't say I wouldn't film 4K, I say I would do 720 > 4K as it is more versatile. Which is obvious balance between hype, trendy thing versus ''real world'' usage.

    I just bought a Panasonic FZ-2000 (FZ-2500): a budget friendly camera to start my video work. Now it is a camera with a fixed lens and an ok 1 inch sensor (I heard it is basically a GH4 with a fixed lens). In 2019 this all sounds entry level. However, the camera does offer 4k / 10 bit / 4:2:2 output. I was wondering if a Ninja V would be an interesting upgrade for my quality, or would the other factors in the camera limit the quality boost you are talking about here?

Or, the slo-mo walk of a guy gripping a camera as if he's the gun-toting sheriff come to save a small town.

It’s that they cut my footage into 4G sections some times there are noticeable spaces between cuts. Would this product record longer limits? I don’t get how this thing works yet lol I film on a 1dx Mark II I was recording in 60fps I’m now recording in 24fps which helped my limit length. That’s how I quick fixed it for myself.
