Who else still uses a glidecam???? Oh and sorry for the crap focus on some of the talking shots 😥
While I absolutely love the footage I achieve with my Ronin-M, I use my HD-2000 for select projects, as every tool has its purpose! When we are in harsh weather or have to hike/bike miles out, it's the glidecam all day. I also bring my glidecam to every shoot that I use my Ronin-M just as a backup, since it'll always work. Great video as always Matti!
I started with a glidecam but moved to a gimbal once they became more affordable ("affordable" on a professional level LOL). BUT you just made me miss my glidecam with this video, though my cheap cametv single is pretty epic for a little gimbal (but def couldn't handle the weight of a 1DX)
But how is it 200?
TravelFeels Also have a old mighty Glidecam HD-2000 aswell as a Ronin-M. It’s great how fast you can start shooting with a glidecam. Those extra few seconds for a Ronin for turning on is not equally nice as a glidecam thats always availible. Pros and cons with both, but I’am very glad that i kept my HD-2000, which is so easy to stabilize as you get use to it.
the old xr 2000 gets pulled out time to time depending on situation and conditions. I said id get rid of it once I got my gimbal but just couldn't let her go, glad i didn't. xD
Dude you are amazing! I cannot even tell you how much I have learnt from you about film making and if I ever thought I knew how to do something, you always came up with better version of it. That's what I like about you Matti, you'll make anything look good and you'll be like I do that every day, super easy! Damn man keep it up!
That overhead drone shot at the start of the video was absolute 🔥love the music in this edit as well Matti!
Loved the video Matti! Great tips!
lol. says he can trust Canon Autofocus, stays out of focus the majority of the video;-)
have You noticed that as well? I did not want to type it here, but you are right.
Lol. Once you see it...
so true even i noticed that and came down to comment when I saw this.
Matti might be using the Lumix GH5 for the talking sections since his Canon 1DX is on the glidecam. AND WE KNOW GH5 SUCKS AT AUTOFOCUS :D -Joonas
HAHAHAHAHHAA
PROTIP: Walk around with a cup of water that is full to the brim. try your hardest not to spill any, Now your a glidecam ninja.
David Niedbala hold it like your holding a glidecam too
Hardcore Mode: Fill the cup with scalding hot coffee. Should give ya some extra incentive to do it right :D
Sick tip! I'll have to give this a try! Thanks David!
And then Initialize! Now we count down to the battle! Initialize
Initial D of glidecam looool
Matti this was SO TIMELY! First video I’ve seen (without searching) about the benefits of a steadicam over a gimbal. Also, I realise I don’t know crap lol, but I just wanted to mention how much more concise you were in this video. Made it more fun to watch. More of your personality came through, no rambling, and super informative. I love your videos but this one was extra awesome! Cheers!
Man you absolutely CRUSHED IT with the soundtrack on this one! Love the vids man, keep 'em coming!
Excited for you to hit 300K- well deserved! I used a steadicam in Iceland but it was so windy it rendered a lot of the footage unusable but it is normally a very reliable piece of kit!
It’s sooo close! Yea wind is the worst enemy unfortunately
I just got a glidecam and I'm excited to practice this! Thanks Matti!
This is by far one of my favorite videos you've done! So insightful thank you so much
Matti that opening B roll scene was insane!!! So good!!
Yo.......This music is so soothing 😍 You are doing just hell of a job keep it up Mattih🔥
Ah the music is so good right???? 😊
Epidemic Sound - [ She's a Badass - Wave Saver ]
Prasanna Gamage epidemic sound is great but I absolutely hate the wya the search works . It doesn't take into account many key words, like if you were to search that song in the Jeff browman had it typed it will say " no search found "
Andrew Sclafani Yeah...I kinda have to agree searching at epidemic bruuuhhhhh😣
Prasanna Gamage it makes my workflow 20 times slower lol I search footsteps on grass and 2 things come.uo , I search footsteps steps 1000 come up with half being in grass 😐
Hehe dope video Matti! I haven’t used auto focus on my camera ever since I got it 😂
Man, feels like I've gone back in time! I used to own the Glidecam HD 2000 and have the HD 4000 laying around. Switched to the Ronin when it first came out and now using the Zhyuin Cranes. One thing that I've learnt from using the Glidecams is that the way you walk and approach your shots are very important. And the skills I've learnt from using the Glidecam has made my gimbal work even better. Thanks for the upload!
Soo happy you made this video. I started looking into a steady cam last week and really couldn’t find a good video. I thought about sending you a message asking for one. Then bam, you post one. :D
Matti, I so very much appreciate the fact that you take the time to reply to our comments! Thank you so much!
You're welcome! Sorry, it's been a year and I feel like you deserve a response :)
The visuals 😱♥️
I am really enjoying your channel Matti. Your one of my favourites these days
Matti, thank you so much for this! The timing is perfect. I was just trying to decide if I wanted a gimbal or steadicam!!! Thanks for helping me make the decision!
Great info to take into consideration. Another great advice. Keep it up!
Thanks man! 🙌🏻
Fantastic video as usual Matti, raised some good points 😊
Thanks 😊
Awesome video! Thanks for comparing gimbals and steadicams. I was recently thinking about getting a steadicam, and after watching your video, I am pretty certain I am going to get one. Keep making these videos, man! We need them!
Thanks for the tip of using the 2nd hand under the bearing! I have watched so many other videos about working the stabilizers and I've gotten the balance right, but my shots were still coming out a bit off. Using the 2nd hand has improved my shots so much! Thanks again!
everything is slow mo.. thats not the best way to show a Gimbel result. everyone today is doing the same slow motion shot, its about time to show some new stuff!
EVERYONE-- it is so boring now. This is why people come here and think gimbals are good. Try real time and see how much bouncing they do. Slow mo Slow mo. It is cheating like playing piano and keeping your foot on the sustain pedal.
aaaannnd slapping a Warp Stabilizer. and done! haha!
You are so right! How could I make a decision when it's always in slow-mo.
I totally agree with you!!!
Peter and TravelFeels always upload at the same time. Goes to show their similarities! :D
🙌🏻
love how you are!!!!!
you read each and every comment and reply too.
this makes you different
all the best
Matti this was one of the greatest intros I have seen from you. Wow. amazing... I want to see more of that. Then 1 million subs is in reach. :) All the best, Andreas
That moment when you're happy with canon's focus and then it fails you..BADLY :)))
haha yeeeeep. i guess thats life
Hey Matti! You shot the talking sections with another Canon or Lumix GH5?
Frame Upgrade I think he used Canon 6d mkii
Abraham Sotelo OK if that's the case... 😂
my thoughts at 6:50
Glidecam is the way!!!! It's got such a natural movement to it, I rock the same exact one, got it 4 years ago
Edit: Interesting to see how you hold it. I've always held it very loosely with 2 fingers above the bearings to make sure it doesn't get out of wack or whatever, kinda just a guide. Never knew you could actually put your other hand to practical use by moving it from left to right
I wish I could upvote your videos more than once. I’m here for the tips of the trade and you never disappoint!
So interesting Matti! Thanks. Have been thinking about investing in a gimbal, but you've made me consider looking at steadicams instead. Top info and thanks for going into so much detail about the pros and cons for each! How cool to stay at the ice hotel! Hope you've warmed up!
#NotificationSquad. Also, I've been hoping you'd talk about this very topic. Also, didn't even consider getting a Glidecam used! Thanks!
haha, #SquadUp !
Oh yea for sure get it used
01:47 🤣🤣🤣 - the shot of you two in the bed....I was watching Peter's and really wanted to see a shot basically exactly like that so thanks!!
Haha 😂
LOL
I really enjoyed your presentation. I have a hard time balancing my glidecam. It's so frustrating. But I got some good insight watching you do it. Can't wait to try it out. Keep the videos coming.
I can definitely see the value in both. I just picked up the Zhiyun Crane 2 and I am very impressed with how easy it was for me to pick it up and start using it and I like how small it is. I also really like the controls if you're using a Canon. I thought about the Steadycam but I was concerned about the learning curve.
Jason
Dude, we have the same Glidecam!! I shoot photos and bought it for video, but honestly it's been sitting on the floor. I need to pick it up!
Am I the only one that loves the fact Peter and Mattih both upload on the same days?
and same videos!
Yeah, probably the only one.
Whaaaat! I-IMPOSSIBLE!!!
Great video. Production quality, engaging speaker and most importantly for me, a content creator that has a great taste in music! Great job man
Thank you for tips Matti. It is super helpful. Also thank you for the other videos as you covered so many topics.
You are amazing.... You inspire me a lot
Thanks so much 🙌🏻
i got one of these really cheap 80-100 bucks steadycams on ebay for 30 bucks used. first i didn't get it balanced, but i recently got it about perfectly set up and it is buttery smooth. and i can also shoot super low angles with my setup, which is super dope.
i still have to practice the catwalk but then i'll be good to go! nice video! gotta get my hands on some quick release plates i think..
Yea lots of practice!
which model did you get? what camera are you using? thank you!
+Anuqz
i use a tarion steadycam with 1 of the standard weights and 2 metal plates on each end. my main camera is the good old lumix g7 and i use it with a rode video mic.
hope i could help you.
Anuqz I have the same setup. Can't get a good balance. Seems like the camera is way too light with the kit lens.
practice practice practice! i had it for about 2 years until i finally found the right balance. but if your setup isn't heavy enough, take some weight off the steadycam weight thing and shorten the lenght of the weight arm or however it's called. you'll find a way for sure!
My favourite video this year! Very helpful and you did a great job👏🏼
LOVE being part of this community too, keep the videos coming Mattih
Well that’s because you’re Mattih and you can make anything look good!
Hahaha 😂 I like the way you think
TravelFeels Omg you replied! Thanks!
TravelFeels Hey I wanted to ask this question: I have small RUclips channel and I’m interested in video and photography in general, and all I have is a smartphone. So should I invest in a cheap camera like a t3i or should I just save up and invest the money I have at the moment in a tripod and some lights?
@@muhammad_dng camera is better because you have manual options and you can change lenses
I absolutely loved the awkward bed scene with Peter! 🤣
Hurrah FINALLY got my new glidecam stabilised after following your instructions. Every other video I found didn't do the set it down then lift it up part which was essential in testing it is stabilsed
I love your videos. They’re so helpful, I’m learning more from your RUclips videos than I receive from my college courses.
Steadicam Solo - better build, smoother gimbal, and smaller pack (feet flip up) than glidecam.
Got me considering getting one sometimes I hate toating around the ronin with the stand but I like the shots I get from it. Not only that but I brought a case I barely use now cause it a be a even bigger hassle breaking it down and putting it back together plus time consuming
I feeeeeeeel that... I hate always having to carry it! Definitely my #1 drawback of the Ronin. We could always upgrade to the freefly systems Movi with the full cage though, but money! *crying*
Yeeeeep. That’s why I’m still on the glidecam. Packs into a tiny size and doesn’t matter where you put it
I seen one guy on RUclips set up with a book bag with the zhyinin crane, mavic pro and camera compared to my phantom 3, ronin and camera all needing 3 bookbags to carry all thru and made me regret half my set up lol
Global Everything Tv real talk the ronin is getting on my nerves
very nice, concise, info on using the stabilizer. the drop time, the balancing, the holding, the walking. all in a few minutes.
First video of yours, I’ve watched and your absolutly awesome man!!!
I (still) use a SteadiCam, some of the main reasons are how easy it's to use and the price, to be quite honest. Got one for like, €45 and it's pretty ok for my Lumix DC-FZ82/EOS 1200D. :P
Actually I use often the gimbal powered off, it it's balanced well, you can use it exactly like a glidecam...
Outstanding video! Great info and great presentation style as well. Thanks so much for a great perspective on gimbals and steadicams.
Thanks Matti for this , you can't imagine how this was helpful to me lol . "Travel Feels" always rocking🔥
You should check out the Devin Graham Signature edition Glidecam! It makes low shots a million times easier!
🙌🏻
Jackson Hayes Why is that?
DGS - the best Steadicam in the world. I recommend.
Daniel Ax you can move the gimbal ring to the bottom
I came into the comments to say exactly this!
"I use Canon because I can trust the Autofocus" *Proceeds to an out of focus shot for the next 20 seconds*
I miss these types of Videos. Thanks for the tips Matti!
Matti you don't get enough credit! Great video! I can always tell when you're behind the camera for Peter's videos! Or on that drone!!!! 🔥🔥🔥
Because you're a legend that's why 😂😍🔥
Haha 😂 thanks man!
TravelFeels haha it's true though.
June 2020: HD-2000 is now $400 on Amazon!
Matti that intro is dope and the tune is the best ever
Love this Arctic series with everyone! So much fun.
THE ICE HOTEL!
Good video, I haven't touched my glidecam for three years now 😳 I like gimbals a lot more
MicBergsma your page died.. your opinion is irrelevant
Matti, great stuff! I bought a Ronin M last week and am still working my few brain cells around it!
But, I have a glidecam as a left over bit of a whole body armour kit, I bought that was just too big for me. Sold the huge hydraulic arm thingy, but kept the glidecam. I have never known how to use it, hilariously using the one arm grip you refer to here, thinking “this isn’t good”.
So now I have a great glidecam I can use with my DSLR now you have shown the way! Many thanks. Great presentation, as ever!
I'm getting really excited about including film into my photography repertoire and this is one more incentive. Gimbles seem intimidating to start with whereas this looks a lot more my speed.
A Steadicam is the brand of Gimbal, much like how Glidecam is also a brand of gimbal.
What you’re referring to is the preference of a mechanically manual gimbal stabilizer, over a mechanically motorized gimbal stabilizer.
In short, a Steadicam IS a gimbal. This is the kind of misinformation that is plaguing the RUclips filmmaking community.
thomaskazuya we still call the old school manual gimbals "Steadicam" because that was the first brand to introduce them. By default, pretty much every camera operator refers to the portable electronic 3 axis gimbals with follow focus, as a gimbal...in short.
Although what you are saying is totally true, I am also sure that you are aware what people call these equipments and the title is given for the sake of easier access for the ones looking for this kind of information. Therefore, I can't pass without saying "you must be really fun at parties" :))
You're right. We should really be calling electronic gimbals, "electronic gimbals". Totally agree. Pity there a catchy name like "tronbals" didn't become popular.
Terminologies also evolve. While technically true , things change over time. It happens forever in the industry. For example I am going to make a record. No one is making a record today--yet the terminologies has not changed. Another example is CUT. Cut is only for film, you do not cut anything anymore--still we use the terms. They change because language evolves.
@@guJLu LOL
So now I bought a Moza Air and than u upload this video?!
Haha 😂 sorry! But the MOZA air is great too! One of my fav small gimbals so far
Great work, that has got to be one of the dopest places I've ever seen, wow!
Congrats on 300k!!!
I use a glidecam because I can’t afford a gimbal yet 😂
Gimball is just useless for weddings for example.
_ Gimball takes more size
_ It'll always be less reliable than a glidecam since there is electronics in it (even if it's high quality gimball) and batteries
_ it is heavier
_ it's much more expensive
_ it's more for short movies, sport movies, outside creative movies in general. During weddings, a large part of the shots are shorts and on monopod. You don't have to run and move all around all the time, just remember it's not an action movie, it's a wedding. Creativity is more important than movement.
(sorry for my english, I'm french)
Gobi-no-houkou was thinking about using my ronin s for a wedding but I might actually buy a glide cam
Thanks for this Matti, was just about to get a glidecam! Super helpful 👌🏼
Great video Mattih! I was totally sold on an expensive gimbal until I saw this. I do have another brand of stabilizer but now realize I was using it all wrong! Thanks bro. Keep up the amazing content😎😎
Early watcher squad!
squuaadddd
1:47 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Thanks sharing what you know Matt! I'm a new film maker and I am just absorbing everything you're teaching!
Really nice intro to steadycam, thank you! I love your vids man :)
“Heel toe, heel toe like a ninja”- 😂👌🏽👌🏽👍🏽 Put in on a tshirt!!
"That's why I use Canon, I can trust their autofocus." ......is out of focus half of the video. 😅
I've got a Sony a6400 and the focus is really good
Benjamin ill be getting that soon !
Really helpful and you bring up some good points about a glide cam over a gimbal
Nice work on the video too
Thanks for the tips. I got a Neewer steadycam for about $60 that's been working nicely for my first one. Easily supports an 80D with 18-35mm Sigma lens. It will hold up to about 6.5 lbs and was easy to balance. The only drawback I've noticed is the plate doesn't attach easily to the base, and the left/right adjustments are inconvenient.
You’re shooting at a high frame rate, so the shaking and side to side doesn’t show when you slow it down, how ever when you shoot with a only 30fps camera, that’s an issue, we don’t have slowmo
I thought it was just me
50th viewer!
🙌🏻
900'000 Subscribers! Congratulations!
im currently shopping for the right gimball for me in my budget....this gave me a second thought and a new perspective. INSANE location btw. absolutely stunning adventure captured gorgeously. cheers!
Lol I literally just bought a 50 dollar Steadicam, and have had nothing but trouble with it.
I still think that they look better than gimbals though, guess I need to save my pennies to afford a better one once I return the other one! :)
a 14 year old filmmaker...
Haha some of them are too cheap so they don’t work well
Chinook Productions my $70 one works great. Make sure it’s balanced and practice all the time
That's a "cool" hotel! HA HA
😂
Where is this hotel?
They keep it in a walk-in freezer. ;)
haha that’s punny
Thanks for the tips! It's all good about the focus. The imperfection keeps ya on your toes!
This was by Far the best tutorial on how to best use a steadicam. Awesome Vid Bro
I really dislike how gimbal movement looks. Makes everything feel like a cheap rap video. #Steadycam4life
Yea it’s a different look 😊 not bad but different
I'll say it's bad, but that's because I'm not a kind and polite soul like you Matti. Keep up the excellent work !
The Cinema Monologues - dang what are you watching??? Haha, I’ve seen movies shot with gimbals, and you probably have to, and didn’t realize it. It’s all about making the story the main focal point and making the audience not aware of the camera movement.
Go get yourself the neewer carbon fiber Steadicam for 75 bucks on Amazon and thank me later
Oh yea that would be good actually 😊
MWRredundant I got a $75 Flycam and it’s perfect
The Flycam is legit
which brand?
Lovely work man thanks for the great ideas I love your work and Peter
Great explanations on differences between Gimbal & Glidecam. Really helps a lot!!
you don\t need a gimbal or steady cam really, most of your clips/videos are slow mo, i don't really see any point or benefit of any stabilizers if you tend to shoot high frame rate and use 1-3 sec of footage per clip in your edits lol. i seen better edits that make proper use of stabilizers, gimbal or steady cams. After all they both will work, 200usd for pipes and metal weights id still get a gimbal, you don't really need a stabilizer hand held will do since you only take 1-2 secs of high frame rate clip footage. I though i heard natural, slo mo is not natural, i have not seen a normal frame rate with placing your camera on a tripod, show us some real gimbal wrok no slo mo pls
auto focus is so bad for a 6k camera though.
i like the hotel and still like your videos just my 2 cents
You mention nearly hitting 300K in this video Matti, not far off the big million now! keep up the good work bro.
Awesome video. Just getting started and still hand holding everything. Can't wait to get a steadicam.
Hey thanks for the video! Just starying out and need as much info as possible about tripods and accessories. I needed something to help stabilize my shots without the tripod. Super happy with this!
