Peter, I'm looking to upgrade my current t5i with a few nicer lenses. Should I go 5DMK4 or 6DMK2, I more into landscape photography, and want to do some vlogging.

Interesting that different RUclipsrs all have their favorite brands -- Casey's on Panasonic now, Sara Dietschy is all about Sony, and Peter loves his Canon. Shows that brand doesn't really matter in the long run -- just good content.

Super awesome camera . I shoot o a T7i but my buddy uses the 6D. Your videos have helped me a ton. I've never been very artistic but as I've gotten older I feel a desire to create.
The most honest review about the 6D mark 2 out there, while everybody else trashed this camera; you and Matty used it to its strengths while highlighting limitations and put it all within co text. bravo dude!
The 80D is the reason why most people including myself gave the 6D2 a bad review. in regards to performance, the 80D is a better camera in many ways, dynamic range. ergonomics, focus system implementation, and due to the crop factor, it can produce significantly sharper and more detailed images at any given focal length/distance.
the 6D2 is only slightly better for low light and the fact that it has a bigger sensor.

Most people just peek at the specs and count pixels, they don't know that the deciding factor on the output is the photographer and the post processing techniques. When I got my 6D2 (from using 80D and 6D1) I was underwhelmed because of the specs but I didn't trash it or bought another camera I worked around it.
As long as you keep making amazing content, I dont care if you shoot with an old phone camera. Im watching whatever video you do!

I WISH Canon would be less conservative when it comes to specs. Why can they not make a straight up competitor to the GH5? I have been seriously considering moving to Panasonic, but I love Canons auto focus too much.

I use Canon and Panasonic. Panasonic, right now, has better video features for price, but Canon's colors are so much nicer.

I was considering this to replace my 70D but to me the image is just so soft. Almost looks out of focus on a 4k monitor. I ended up getting an a6500 instead. For $600 LESS than the 6D you get usable 4K and 120fps in 1080.

just last night i was watching the camera store's annual showdown, where they and other major youtuber camera people were dissing the 6DMK2... "worst of the year" I'm getting the feeling here that this is a very divisive camera much like the movie the Last Jedi is divisive...
Flip-out screens definitely make a HUGE difference!!

I find that finding the perfect camera is such a difficult task, you are always sacrificing something and making compromises! But that just means that you are trying your hardest to put out the best content possible and no one can be mad about that! Great video my friend!
What do you think of the Canon EOS 80D? That’s what I use to vlog....
Do you miss the ALL-i mode? I feel like the 1080p on this is noticeably softer. Its the only reason I haven't pulled the trigger on this and still considering the 5D4 for best of both worlds minus the flip screen.

MrMichou26 yep, also only 1/4000 shutter speed, No headphone jack, Soft Video like 5d m3 and 70D, still 1/180 flash sync etc....
No Point in getting it. If one doesn't have 6k then he should get an 80D or a 5d m4, nothing in between.
I thought the video was processed with the same jpeg rendering engine that the camera uses to process RAW files. I was able to sharpen the videos on 5D my MKIII using the Picture style settings. I think I turned the sharpness past 5 or something.
Hey man. It is notably softer however add some sharpness and bring down the shadows and you can have a pretty crisp image.

Wanted to stay in the Canon family and was looking into the 6D Mk2 but there’s not much footage out there from good creators to go off of. This is so helpful, now I don’t have to switch to Sony.

Can somebody help me I have a low budget I can only afford t7i or Sl2,, is it worth the money? I am more considering the Sl2 but the colors available only are white and silver which I do not Like so I am maybe going to t7i,, Is it a good buy> thanks!
James Tristan Ruiz I recommend the sl2 over the t7i, if you don’t mind the color. I mean you can get a plain black sl2.
It's a great camera. I produced the launch content for it in Australia (an astro timelapse short) and documented how I did it on the old channel.

Peter we upscale our 1080p video to 4k for RUclips. You'll get a slightly better quality on RUclips if you do that, even if you film 1080p.

When this video first came out, I was encourages to by it, then watching tons of other youtubers say how bad it is discouraged me and made me think about keeping my 80D, now I'm back here watching this video for a second time seeing if I can make sense of it all.

Is it worth upgrading from my 80D to the 6D Mark II? Just bought the Sigma 18-35mm and I‘m pretty happy about it. Only in low light conditions I‘m struggeling sometimes. So an upgrade to a full frame sensor would maybe a thing..
Not really, the lenses for the 6D are FF lenses so you would have to re-invest money on that. Also, 80D is a BEAST of a camera. If you yous want to make pictures, then YES, full frame will allow you to have better quality with less noise
I use TS-E lenses for landscape including architecture. it's the major reason I actually need a full frame camera. Otherwise I would get along extremely well with an APS-C camera. DPAF is tremendous, but it's not something that I really need.
Booom ... I use a 70D and a Sigma 18-35mm. Killer Combo!

I personally use the camera, but the 1080p isn't quite as nice as the 1DXII. However it does well against the more expensive 1DXII...plus you still get canon's color science!
The problem with this review is that it appears to be conducted within a vacuum, as in it doesn't consider this camera in light of the competition, which for an entry level FF camera, it really should. Any photographer/reviewer would have to admit that when stacked up with the offerings from Sony and Nikon and even Canon (re: second hand 6d m1) this camera, at best just holds its ground (no one is being blown away by the 6dm2 stats), so unless you are a definite canon user who really wants a band new camera, this review will be lacking for you and does not give you the full picture.

It seems like the colour / colour correction / quality of this video seems different from the previous video that peter record using 1DXMK2.
It's more like a 720p-ish instead of 1080p-ish, But still Peter B-roll and all of his camera movement is super dope as always.

Well tbh the colour correction there is kinda up a bit and so the quality.
So it's kinda more ok-ish I guess.

One downside of the 6dMK2 is that you can only record 1080p60 in IPB compression. Using IPB instead of All-I will compress your video more to make it a smaller file size, but in return you lose quality. I'm kinda irritated that Canon wouldn't allow 1080p60 All-I on the 6DMK2. That would make it the perfect camera. It's kinda a dealbreaker for me, because just like you said, the quality looks almost like its 720p because it's so compressed. Frustrating :/
Downscaling 4k footage to HD gives you much better HD footage than just recording HD. Pretty much always true and definitely for these cameras.

As an owner of a Sony camera, I can say... Get your settings right. I agree Sony could've done a better job on the default but it's really not that big of a deal to create your own in-camera profile and shoot with that. I'd rather work with post-correction from an S-log or Cine file but it's not even necessary.
I was messing around with an 80D recently. It was pretty nice. Right now I use Nikon gear, which isn't ideal for vlog style footage. Like you were saying, the flip screen is a huge plus as well as the AF. I'm thinking Canon's next round of cameras will be big if they can get 120fps and 4K through the line. How is Canon's WIFI app? Does it have a good deal of video recording features? I didn't get a chance to look at that.

Because some people (on RUclips in general) are so snobbish they consider Rebels poorfag cameras, regardless of hundreds of videogs starting with T3i or even older
Daniel, if you're referring to the original 6D, then I would keep the T7i for video (far better autofocus). But with new 6D Mark II, I can't tell for sure. But I guess it wouldn't be an insane difference, perhaps a bit lower noise at higher ISO.
Canon sold some Rebels (T5i, T6i) as a "video starter kit", bundled with a Rode video microphone. It sold pretty well, some people on YT started with that kit.
thats what im saying!!, and u can still get a kit like that on amazon. why spend over 3 thousand for a camera when u can spend jus 699 and use that money for facebook marketing and focus on proper content!!
The 6D mark 2 is literally my dream camera! Only if it wasn’t so expensive! Going to be getting the m50 instead. Maybe I’ll get the 6D mark 2 someday 😂

Megan Marie I got an 80D and it’s an overall solid camera. It’s great for both run and gun has really good HD. M50 is good but the crop and stuff on the 4K makes it annoying plus for 80D just has more lens choices. Overall just a good camera

Continuous autofocus in video is not good enough.

Jorge F. P. Ramos Continous video autofocus for the Canon 80D and 6D Mark II is good enough. Olympus, Panasonic, Fuji, Sony, not good enough yet.
But the most interesting thing that's going on right now to me. Is how Fuji and Panasonic are making excellent lenses down sized for their sensors. I thought Sony was going to do that. I thought that Sony would have awesome professional lenses for the alpha 6000 series crop sensor cameras, but they're doing the same thing Nikon and Canon did, making Pro lenses for full-frame sensors. I think if Somy pulled out all the stops and made the a6600 autofocus equal to Canon, and had a flip around screen, they would kill it.
What about the a7s ii ? Or were you kind of bundling that in when bringing flagship sony cameras into the discussion.
Well portability is an essential thing, why not keep both as you said and use it for timelapse and outdoor mobility :) and use your 1DX for high profile projects. At home you already have the c200 and you are covered this way. By the way what good program do you recommend for screen recording for the computer ?

Great video production as always, but the video quality from the 6DII looks muddy AF, gross.
It looks so "muddy" because with the 6DMK2, you can only record 1080p60 in IPB Compression instead of All-I :/

It depends on what are you filming. In general, Canon L Series. No one can tell you what focal distance do you need except you :)
If your vlogging. And pointing the camera back at you. While holding it up with your hand. The Canon 10 to 18 STM Zoom is perfect for vlogging on the 80D what L lens would be equal to that on full frame?
If you want something wide, 8-15 F4 Fisheye Lens, 16-35 F2.8 (I work with them both and they are great!). You can also get a 24-70 if you want something more versatile.

The 6d is so soft. I dunno man. It's obviously fun and cool to have a flip screen but the image suffers substantially.

The sole reason you should switch to the 6DMKII is that if you’d have vlogged entirely on this can without mentioning it, you’d have had a total of 0 viewers that said “hey, this doesn’t look as good as your other vlogs” AND you have a flipout! Win

In grey sky on a freezing day wearing all black I think you’re right... I can’t afford a kit like this so I shoot with a T7i and get better video quality than this (on 1080 60fps) when there is light and colour to shoot. My question is my camera with an 18-55 kit lens was @$1300 ... this camera with a kit lens is over $2K - is it that much better for video??
Sell your gear and get a 6D MKII on eBay for $1500. Its possible, and crop sensors are not where its at especially if you have work going for you.
I've been looking to update, since my main shooter (canon t6i- beginner dslr) can't shoot in 1080p 60fps which is a huge downer when I'm shooting vlogs. Obviously since I'm 15, I can't just grab whatever the top of the line camera is, so I've been looking around. Definitely gonna put the 6d on my "maybe" list!! Anyone have any other camera suggestions? (I'm probably gonna stick to canon, but I'm open)
EOS T7i or EOS 77D or EOS M6 or M5 are all great options :)
for video dont choose canon, unless youre getting the 1dx mk ii or 5D mk IV. Stick to panasonic or sony
Just go for the 80D if you can save up for it. I was considering the 77D but ended up going with the 80D and it is amazing! Get it from Canon refurbished like I did to save a ton. I made a video on why I bought it if you want to check it out :)

I had a Canon 80D and went to the 6D II launch event and the latter is worse in almost every way (well except for the larger sensor). I already had a 6D as well, decided not to upgrade, but to sell both cameras and go for a Sony A7RIII (which is actually 500 EUR cheaper than a 5DIV). Sorry, but while the 6DII maybe a good camera, it is way worse than what it should have been!
A former Canon guy myself so I had a hard time justifying the switch to Sony with the learning curve, previous owned Canon lenses, etc. . After two weeks of use, I can say that it beats higher end Canons hands down. What an incredible camera!

I never ever planned on getting a full frame before, hence why I got my 80D & loving it. Now that this thing came out, it's really playing with my head a lot lately!

Canon is pretty smart!!!! Pass out a ton of 6D Mark 2's to a bunch of of popular youtubers as a marketing ploy and to boost sales (RIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS) and they make several million dollars on a camera that came out of the running gates stumbling like a drunk and being bad mouthed by about every photographer there is!!!! Great job and move Canon!~
By the way, I bought the camera when it was first released despite all the negative reviews and controversy and I love it! It's a damn good camera and I have no regrets.
I actually was willing to spend the extra bucks for the 5D Mark IV but it didn't have the flip out screen........Canon could of made an extra 1300.00 bucks off me if they simply would of made the 5D Mark IV with a flip out screen! LOL (I'm serious!)

Yeah, I also noticed you didn't label it in your video title too. I've just seen several other popular youtubers making 6D2 videos recently and saying all kinds of good things about the 6D2 now after so many have bashed it.....
I own and know the 6D2 pretty well and your opinion is pretty honest, spot on, and no bs'n around. Its a really decent camera and I love using it.
You should probably keep it and use it when you need to run and gun in a hurry!
5dMKIV has a 1.7x crop not a 2x crop. There are a few other cameras that have a crop as well when shooting in 4k and the ones that don't, have an APS-C sensor. The only issue is the motion Jpeg codec but I've been getting around that by transcoding 4k with handbrake to more manageable file sizes. Works out for me. But definitely won't for others.

@@Micoolaw NO idea why ppl so into flip out screens, . Each 2 his own. But I am old skool so I am coming from a generation that did not get to Whine day and night about a screen. am.. We did not even have screens. We had to take our shit to the dark room,. So when I hear this complaining I do not get what the fuss is all about. You can plug your phone into the wifi and monitor that way. The issue with the 5D and 1 D is codec and output @ 4k, now that is a real issue (for me at least).

Just bought my first canon today the 6d mark ii to be exact I’ve used Nikon since I started photography and my friends have been trying to take me into switching and I finally made the switch can’t wait till I get it and set it up

So sad that Canon had to send 6D Mk II's to the biggest youtubers so they can reverse the AWFUL reviews it got from the camera reviewers (the non biassed ones)

lightweight, flip out screen, internal 4k, 1080p slow motion, great battery life, time lapse in camera... yes, I love my good old GH4
