I have to agree. I was at Alpha Festival in Joburg but I didn’t get the opportunity to chat to Jacques, but his passion for filmmaking came through during his presentation. As always, great work Jacques 👏🏽.
This is amazing! When everyone talks about complicated gears or editing for film making, Jacques focuses on what is really important. Just by showing how much a simple handheld shot and a gimbal shot could show you two different emotions with the same place, lighting and with the same subject was incredible ❤️ This video is really informative and easy to follow for basically anyone 💯
Wow, Ashish! Thank you so much for the really kind words. I sincerely appreciate that you feel this way about my videos. Means the world to me. Also, thank you so much for the support on my channel, I really do sincerely appreciate it! 🔥
Thank you so much for the kind compliment! I really appreciate it so much! 🙏Really glad you appreciate the detail! Thank you for your support as a subscriber!
This video does an amazing job at verbalizing the things we as videographers and filmmakers do daily, but often don't think about. 100% will be sharing this video with others!
Jacques, in my personal opinion, this is probably the best tutorial you've ever posted. Ive been pretty good when it comes to choosing one over the other but never knew how to explain it to myself in my head lol. PS. I did not know that South Africa has such incredible landscapes(clip of mountains).
Yooo Chris. Wow, dude, that is such a HUGE compliment to me. Thank you so much man. Really glad to hear! 🙏 Yea South Africa is truly a natural masterpiece! 😍
Moments always trump movement, another gem filled video from Jacques. I can't explain how much I learned from this very generous person. Now back to rewatching this again because there is a lot to unpack.
I never really thought of handheld being able to convey emotion more clearly than gimbal footage, but this totally makes sense! I definitely have felt that over-stabilized footage feels much less authentic overall. But, as you said, being able to use stabilization to highlight the subject purely is super helpful.
Jacques, you really put lot of effort in making this video, explained in very crystal clear way when to use use gimbal and when to avoid, at that time handheld is really good. The Feeling and movement part is really like you are giving the cinematography tips to film Hollywood movies. Lots of information is packed in this video. Watching this video for last 1 hr repeatedly to take consideration in all the details you put into the video.
Wow, what a genuinely nice comment! 🙏 Thank you SO MUCH for taking the time to write such gracious feedback. Really happy to hear you find the video so valuable! 🙏
As a fellow South African i find it really inspiring to see so many great content creators growing. I currently have an Sony a7c with a dji rs3 mini and is obsessed with the never ending ideas and growth… at almost 30 i thing i have found my passion. Thanks for sharing.
Awesome video Jacques, we just upgraded to the RS3 Mini. Totally agree that there is a time and a place for gimbal work! Also really love the handheld look!
Great video Jacques, thank you ! One question: when you move handheld or with a gimbal do you change and x2 the shutter speed to get smooth results ? Or just the frame rate ?
Jacques, you are amazing, mate. I have never been this impressed with a video like this one. You are giving me more boost to fully embrace my photography and videography. I am amazed, though. Keep teaching us, Jacques. THANK YOU, MATE.
You are a seriously talented man! I’ve watched a bunch of your videos now and I’m blown away buy the quality of your work AND how good theses videos are. So informative. I’ve learnt more from a few of your videos than I have some paid courses. Thank you!
Thats the video I was looking for haha its truly great to see the difference and also get to see the possibilities and abilities of each way of moving the camera.. love it!
Best video about whether using a gymbal or handheld. I simply love handheld and I was considering buying the Ronin RS3, but for now, I think I'm ok with the handheld look.
this is by far one of the best and most informative movies i’ve ever came across on YT regarding cinematic video! WOW absolutely appreciate you sharing your knowledge. So glad i came across your video, new follower alert!
Jacques my brother! Your videos are truly the best. So easily digestible with loads of invaluable knowledge. Thank you for being such a great influence and teacher to myself and many more!
Yewww Naeem. Dude, thank you so much for your comment and for your support on my videos dude. I am really glad you're finding the videos so useful. Thanks bro! 🙏
The way you explain this is like I have the same way of filming. I prefer always handheld on short films.. gimbal for portrait videos.. etc. Many movies they do use very steady shots.. gimbal but those are very well planned so that's why it looks so good. This is very important to learn when to use gimbal and when handheld.. if you mix wrong in one project gimbal / handheld.. the project can fail just because of that. Thank you for this very informative video .
Absolutely! Thank you so much for the comment, I really appreciate your support on the channel. Glad you resonated with the video and that you found it helpful! 🙏
It's a good video. Definitely a good resource for folks who maybe don't understand that the framing and motion of a shot should always be in service to the story you're trying to tell.
Every time I watch your tutorials, I feel motivated to keep improving my filming skills. I've learned quite a lot of camera-handling skills from you since discovering your channel a few months ago. So thanks a lot.
Hey hey, that's very good news. Thank you so much for taking the time to let me know. Very happy that you have learnt so much. Thank you for your support on my channel! 🙏
Excellent job! Great explanation for uses! I've been contemplating getting a Gimbal and your explanation for everything put it all in perspective! Well done! Thank you! Cheers!
I repeat myself in every comment, but what should I do when every time after your video we learn something smart and useful and restore something forgotten. Great video easy to follow as always. Cheers🍻
Masterclass on cinematography. Nicely done Jacques! I'm patiently waiting on a release date of your udemy educational course...wink..wink. Btw, I'm a newbie that has been scouring the web for education like this. Thank you for sharing your work and knowledge.
Really useful beautifully told and so true. You’ve described what should be intuitive to us all who make videos. But to have a blueprint like yours is a real gem. Thank you 🌹
Met Jacques in real life, what an awesome humble guy . His passion is truly infectious and shines through even more when you meet him.
Thank you Thomas, that means sooo much to me! Local support goes a long way on here :)

0:42 how did you get such a stable shot handheld there? Is it sony active stab? or did you use catalyst browse?

I am now on my way to what I dreamed of and when I arrive I will never forget to thank you for helping me...lots of love for your creativity.
Loved your differences using the Gimbal and going handheld.. I feel this is the Perfect answer people like me who were looking for the answer.

Glad it was helpful and that you were able to gain some insight from the video! Thank you so much for your comment! 🔥
YES. More videos on the subjects of WHEN AND WHY
Glad you like the when and why format. Thanks for watching! 🙏🏼
Best to the point informational video I have seen. With clear concepts and only 'costing' 9 minutes of my time. Amazing!!

Wow, Tyler, thank you so much for that! 🙏Really appreciate the support!
I wish I could subscribe twice. Excellent insights!
Thanks so much for the huge compliment! 🙏
I like the contrast you get when you start with one and switch to the other. It helps highlight the change in emotion or energy.
Yea it definitely does! There is a time and a place for both styles! 🙏

@@jacques_crafford It's so light and easy to use for for the run and gun style. I loved the last bit of advice you gave though. Moment > Movement👌
