  • There are plenty of stabilizers out there. So what is special with the Wildcat Mark III steadicam?
    Learn how to film yourself and others with our brand new course: andyax.com/course/
    Let's figure out in this video. You can get this steadycam here: bhpho.to/2nkh9JY
    Five awesome things with the Wild Cat Mark III steadycam.
    1. You can fold the legs to make it small and compact for traveling.
    2. Since the legs create a triangle, you can place it on the ground without fearing that it will tip over.
    3. You can adjust the handle to your prefered position.
    4 You get an arm support with the product, which will make the whole setup feel easier.
    5. You get a nice and practical bag with it.
    So should you get yourself the Wild Cat mark III? Well, the answer is quite simple: If you want a good and affordable steadycam, this is it. Especially the aluminum version which can handle cameras up to 3kilos and which costs only 280 dollars. Just remember again that steadycams are harder to operate then gimbals, so you would need some practice. I believe that this steadycam is the perfect tool to practice and become the master of steadycam. Good luck!
    You can get the iFootage WildCat MIII here: bhpho.to/2nkh9JY

    Great find! I love the look of steadicams and find the mechanical nature of it to give me a lot of peace of mind; no chance of accidentally forgetting to charge it or getting a technical glitch that ruins a shoot.... especially when you film outdoors in wild locations like I do!

    Well done, your awesome skills as a steady cam operator got me. It's been almost a year since I originally saw this video post. I wanted it then but already had my crane gimbal which I use almost daily for my real estate work. Yesterday, the gimbal finally crapped out on me mid shoot and I realized I just screwed myself out of the day's shoot since I didn't have a back up so bought this as a mechanical backup to my shoots. I am really looking forward to practicing and learning this system (used your BHphoto link). Thanks!

    Also I bought the s60t steady cam a couple years ago on your recommendation from the video and have been very happy with it, but looks like this one would be a nice step up if I ever decided to upgrade!!

      Thanks for you nice comment. As RUclips is mainly a hobby for us, we do it when we have time. However, we want to upload regularly once a month and have set the 1st of each month as a goal. So stay tuned around that date :)
      Yes, I also thought this could be a nice step up. I'll definitely continue using it with a heavy load, as that impressed me a lot. Just need to get myself an even better follow focus system and maybe wireless transmitter for a focus puller. Might make a video about that later for RUclips or on the Patreon page :)

    As a real stedicam operator, i must say, it's much better then ANY! Gimbal. Gives you Much much! better overall control of your composition during moves.And you dont have to put so much effort into your walk to achieve silky smooth shots. i own the RONONs and Came TV 3 axis gimbals and don't even use them. You have to put to much mental energy into controlling your frameing and composition, which is very taxing on your overall shoot. These StediCams are much better and easier on you and actually deliver no Up & Down walking motion with nice smooth footage.
    Thanx for posting.
    Great video demonstration.

    • @Andyax
      @Andyax  5 лет назад +5

      Thanks for the comment. A steadycam feels like an extension of your body, making you able to control it just the way you want. When you know how to use it, it feels so natural. That's why I love it :)

  • @tazawafoto

    Sadly, the Wildcat III Aluminum version's stated support for up to 3 kg (6.6 lbs) turned out to be false. This steadicam will only support up to approximately 1.7 kg (3.75 lb). Anything heavier than that limit and you won't be able to conduct the drop test as the payload end will swing down even with all of the counterweights attached and the shaft fully extended. Great build with nice features but the shaft is too short and the counterweights that comes with the product is just not sufficient to support anything close to their stated claim. If you wish to support anything heavier, you need to do what Andyax did in this video by replacing the counterweights with heavy peripheral accessories like the Shogun Inferno monitor and outboard batteries.

    • @matteo_oz3557
      @matteo_oz3557 4 года назад +1

      for that price qith a good monitor and a vbattery the results are pretty good with cameras like eva or canon c200 c300 and maybe fs7. Its small enough and lighter to be easy to carry with you ind your backpack. In the video i don't know if they didn0t balance well the steady with gh5 but that shoots are not good, but the Eva setup is still nice and belanced, i don't know how it feels when you try to run with that camera.

    Could you do a small video on ways you usually hold a steadycam? I have read that you're supposed to keep fingers spread but below the bearing, never leave hands there it's more of a tapping gesture to correct shake, etc. However, it looks like you hold hands above the bearing and keep them there. You get some really buttery shots and it's amazing. Could you explain your method and why it works for you, or why you result to that method instead of the ones I mentioned above? Would help a ton, thanks!

    One of the biggest annoyances with cheap steadicams is the handle being so close to the post and sticking straight out then down, rather than the more professional angled handle that attaches to the steadicam arm. That Wildcat one seems to sort of hit a middle ground, but as long as they still stick a holdable handle on the end, I see no reason not to have the longer angled handle option to help when going at different angles.

    surely when you zoom , certain groups of elements inside the lens barrel are moving forwards and backwards , which would alter the balance regardless of whether the lens becomes shorter or longer externally???

    A typo in the title, it should be 2018. Anyway, I made a few steadycams and finally bought one a few years back. It's a pain in the butt to balance it perfectly. With IBIS and light post-stabilization, you can achieve really nice smooth footage with a steadycam or gimbal.
