You need to call the Postal Inspectors. This is a federal crime because the Post Office is involved. Trust me I was a mailman for years and a reseller. The Postal Inspectors are federal agents and do take this fraud seriously.

The postmaster general was aware the local police & county detectives were more on the job. A local man who were aware of situation caught couple in act & called PD this local guy followed them It was crazy. The couple is in county jail but didn’t go federal. I would definitely force USPS to pursue a mail fraud case against the scammer. I have had a few buyers try to pull a outright blatant scam and I notified them and eBay that I would have the USPS Inspector investigate the situation as a mail fraud case. I don’t know for sure what eBay did but I sure didn’t have to cover it. I have always had 100% positive feedback and I take care of my customers every time it’s not their fault. Personally that package that you are talking about maybe should go to the police station or at least call them to get their advice incase it is something sinister. Of course be ready with the back story. I would also call the Post office and talk to a supervisor, not whoever answers the phone, because you may have something toxic, they could also tell you what could be done and should be done. I've been on eBay since 2003. I have had a few issues. I received a "return to sender - unable to deliver" notification from USPS BEFORE I had the return request from eBay. I use USPS online tools and noticed it was still "out for delivery". So I knew I would not get it back for at least two days as it was still with the carrier. The next day I received the return request from eBay where they sent photos of a broken item (with packing materials I don't use) I immediately opened an insurance claim with USPS which will stop the package. I did not deny the return yet, but asked questions about my shipping (I take 3 photos before shipping - unwrapped, wrapped, boxed) and the buyer said he just taped back up. Well, was it a return to sender or a broken item? I updated my insurance claim and got a call from USPS and about an hour later eBay. I actually had to write a statement for USPS as they were going after the guy for fraud.

I'm sure you know that Human "Bodily fluids" are considered a Biohazard. You may want to double bag the box for safety sake. Not only that, it seems to be a threatening tone to these actions. That can definitely become a problem.
In addition to the post office & E-Bay, You mentioned the Police, and don't know if it would help. You may want to seriously consider the Sherriff's Dept. in your County, especially if threats have been made. Many Sherriff Depts. have a dept. just for online issues like this. Keep them filled in on what has transpired. Update with any additional backlash you may get from this screwball. You won't lose anything to contact them and even ask for other suggestions.
I looked it up to see if what you were sent is illegal. "Not necessarily, but "If it was sent with intent to harass someone, then it's probably going to break your local harassment laws which make it a criminal offense."
Obviously that was the intent, so the Sheriff's Dept. may need to be aware.
    Please keep us posted.

I think it is tremendously important that you have addressed that seller…lazy people trying to get everything for free is why this country is dying. Trash on the roadsides because they throw their fast food trash out. This country needs to be back in church on Sundays honoring Jesus with their lives by being honest and hard working!

eBay returns are automated. eBay will refund the buyer if you don’t, with a defect on your account. You can report the buyer but that only works after the fact, and it isn’t guaranteed.

    • @Junkinsally

That’s exactly how it works, so stupid!! Just keep messaging them demanding they remove the defect.

I think eBay has integrated too much reliance on AI to run the seller interface. They have sacrificed actual hands on control of interactions between sellers and buyers by letting AI run the company. Laying off 1,000 employees recently is the proof that there’s that much AI control we’re trying to talk to and AI doesn’t actually think and deduce the intricacy of issues, it responds and shuts down problems through whatever programming installed. eBay is becoming hard to work with and sellers should not live in fear of negative feedback to the extent they don’t pushback on scammers and crazy behavior.

It’s not petty when you are taking action against a scammer who openly commits fraud against you, eBay and the USPS. Mail fraud is a federal crime.

This is nothing new with eBay. Sellers have been getting short end of the stick on stuff like this for years. When you pay these expensive seller fees and eBay don't back the sellers it makes you wonder what are you paying them so much fees for. Also if eBay don't refund them, PayPal or their credit card will. You may be able to do a package interception at USPS next time if they open a return before receiving it.

  • @cek589

Post office can help. I would be curious if the name, address, of the buyer all match the payment method. Doubt they are using their own credit card for fraud. Mail fraud, wire fraud. Sounds larger than 1 individual.

I got scammed a few months ago, sold a Burberry Cashmere coat. Buyer got the coat turned around opened a return....the item didn't fit.... no problem. Now how they did this I have no clue........ebay a week later said I received my item and need to refund the buyer. I check the tracking number and it went to a completely different state different address, which I don't live at. I called ebay and they could see this wasn't my return address, they were suppose to look into this, days later they refunded the buyer even though I didn't have the coat and the tracking number showed it wasn't shipped to my address. It took me opening a case against the buyer and 5 calls later with ebay.......they finally gave me a refund, BUT let the scammer keep the money they refunded to him. This shouldn't of happened, but it did!!

Why on earth is eBay still so big? They're terrible to sellers, thereby encouraging scam sellers operate on the site, as well as bad buyers who steal items with fraudulent returns. I rarely even sell on there anymore, definitely don't buy on it because they do nothing to stop counterfeit goods, and it's just all around bad. Somebody needs to take a chance and just set up an "absolutely no returns" selling site. Basically, buy at your own risk, if you can't stomach the risk then don't buy from it. That's not a good solution but eBay is just not a good place to sell anymore. Especially for smaller and medium sized sellers. And definitely file a police report for theft and maybe also criminal harassment depending on what's in that package!

With that ravens hat, did you sell that as new? Like new? Or what? Just curious cause you can’t really go off just cause it still has the stickers on it etc. cause I know out here in southern Cali, people leave the stickers on the hat bills etc, don’t ask me why but I’d literally say, 90% of the people you see out here with a hat on guarantee the stickers will be on there. Again don’t ask me why me personally I think it’s stupid looking but hey to each there own. Cool video thanks for sharing

It seems to me that if all the youtubers like yourself that make reselling videos that talk and scammers and bad buyers. Show that bad problem eBay buyer's name, you don't have to say their name just clearly show it screen shot and we the eBay community can police the platform and block them. One RUclips person did show the name of the bad buyer he talked about, and I promptly block that bad buyer. We the resellers can clean up the eBay problem ourselves at least to a large degree.

Sellers need more protection. How do they get to send rubbish and liquid back in your case yes scary . Take it to the post office get them to open it or police . A big waste of your time the whole thing . Sorry this happened !so many other buyers oo% are fantastic great that’s what we need to concentrate on for sure.

I won't even sell gift cards on eBay any longer, the scammers definitely know the system and I've lost my items and money both with the last 2 I sold on eBay. I escalated the last fraud buyer to the local police department in NJ where they lived and never got anywhere with that as well. I really don't think the police department did anything even though I filled out a report with the investigator over the phone and forwarded them by email all the records regarding the transaction. eBay definitely needs to do more to protect sellers and they need to weed out the fraud.

I understand having protections for the buyer but there should be as many protections for the sellers as well. I have been on both sides of this issue and I’ve encountered a few scam artist sellers that will ship you broken items or items that are not what was listed. Then when you try to get ahold of them they never answer your emails. However, I’ve seen the same thing happen with buyers. So the attention to protection really needs to be as strong on both ends of the selling process.

This falls in line with (if you see something say something) and many times we let it go. And now it is out of hand. So yes prosecute to the fullest extent to hopefully put a stop to it and maybe get this person some help
