I sold a folder of Pokémon cards and the buyer requested a refund, saying they weren’t as described. I asked them to send me pictures of complaint, and they sent me pictures of fake cards. I declined refund and they put in a dispute with eBay, where they got a full refund. I sent in pictures of my original listing and the pictures the customer sent, and eBay dismissed my complaint. I drove 3 hours to knock on the door of the customer and asked them to return my original cards. The look of terror in his eyes was worth the drive, but I got my cards back.
This is phenomenal. When Kevin was describing the iPhone scam I was thinking, you have their mailing address, go get em!

Hello, some people is very stupid, I went through a similar situation with Amazon. Amazon of course was in favor of the customer, but my store was almost shutdown just because this one customer.
Oh my! Good for you, I would have done the same thing if the buyer lived a few hours away, no way they would get away with that!
I just got my first negative review yesterday from someone who CANCELLED her order! She never received it because I didn't ship it. She wanted a refund and complained that I am nonresponsive. I contacted eBay and they removed it right away. This can really hurt someone's business. Why would a person make up something like that??? Needless to say, she is blocked from buying from me in the future. I'm glad eBay acted fast on this one.
My worst feedback was for items less than $15, even 99 cents on one item . I did get a neutral recently on a higher $$ item because it was dirty. The description clearly stated "the xbyfd will need a good cleaning".
Sometimes you just run across buyers who still act like children and don’t have any interest to settle things civilly.
@@spudthI had a buyer just berate me over a $9 item from 1965 which had a spot on it. Which could clearly be seen in photos. It got so bad I reported her to eBay she just wouldn’t stop sending me rotten messages.
I believe there are very unhappy people with too much time on their hands. They spend their time feeling they have been wronged.

Dealing with the non-US eBay reps is simply horrific. It's like you're speaking underwater. They run through scripts and communicate so poorly. I dread having to call them.
I agree. I think to many people attribute every return to scams instead of taking a moment and improving. Also, another good way to hit them is mention that you are going to file a police report and an IC3 (for internet fraud).
I have been scammed as both a buyer and a seller on eBay. I have received an empty envelope on an expensive vintage game purchase - lost $200 and Santa didn't fill that request. As a seller I learned quickly not to sell outside of North America because tracking is too unreliable. The "item not received" complaint was always items overseas.

Used to work for a company that sold vintage car parts. My manager got a return of an item that we don't even sell and eBay again sided the buyer. I died laughing when I heard him say to the eBay rep that if they didn't care what gets returned then he just found a way to get rid of his baby daughter's dirty diapers and get free items from them. Of course he would never but it did get the rep aware of what he was talking about and gave him the money back. Have to add it only happened once in my 15 years there. Always enjoyed my manager's sick sense of humor.

I like using the lock mechanism on the sold filter on eBay but I don’t use it all the time because I do want to see how many are listed too. The thing I wish they would change is just move Sold and Completed all the way up at the top of the filter list. It’s aggravating to have to scroll almost all the way at the bottom constantly. I haven’t been scammed and not going to say yet because I don’t want to put that out in the universe lol. My Go 2 Tape 😊

When I first started, I sold a sleeping bag, new with tags. It showed the date arrived (it was a Friday) On the following Monday, they reported it as INAD. According to them, it had a stain on the inside and twigs were found inside it. I asked them to return it, which they did at my cost, of course, no stains were found anywhere, and certainly no twigs. I sent eBay several emails and pictures of where the stain was supposed to be. The rep I spoke with agreed with me, and a week later that account holder was no longer to be found. When I called to enquire, the rep told me the account was now closed. I still wonder if they jumped or were they pushed!
I do not do International. I use to but learned my lesson the hard way and never again. I've lost around $400 this yr from scammers. Ebay did nothing. Their suggestion was to report the people. I've been on ebay 24 yrs this coming March currently with over 800 listings. Plan on dwindling down under 100 and getting out of my store. Tired of high fees, ebays continual support of buyers, ever increasing postal prices and high cost of supplies. I do better local.....no fees...no feedback....no packaging....no dealing with the USPS and ebays never ending new rules all in favor of the buyer. Just my 2 cents. Love your content and always helpful.

I had someone try to scam me when i first started selling but thanks to you and a few other reseller videos i knew not to fall for it. Thanks for all the great info. I love my go 2 tape.

My go to tape!
I had another seller pull a switcheroo. He bought an item from me, opened a return (INAD, but the flaw was actually in the photos/description), returned a different item and MODIFIED the return label by cutting out the return address and hand writing in a different address. This all happened a year ago during a pretty rough time for me. I did nothing at the time. It still bugs me but now that its been a year...gotta let it go
This happend to me 30 times. Yes, ebay always refund the buyers but they also always refund me. Key is take pictures and record a video ,and file police report .

I’ve also done eBay for over 2 decades I don’t offer returns and very rarely have accepted any. I usually sell repaired headlights etc off of crashed cars.(I’m a bodyman) just recently gotten into thrifting to resell and still won’t accept returns. I try to post as many clear and accurate pics. Love your show and you’ve really encouraged me to branch out to thrifting/ estate sale etc. thank you.
If you want to be a Top Rated Seller, you have to accept returns, if you don't care about that then good on you!
@@littleluluscrapsit doesn’t matter if you want to be top rate or not. If buyer open a case saying item is not as described , ebay will automatically accept their return request, give them return label and seller get charged for the return label. So yeah, the no return accepted mean nothing at all
@@hp4415 Except if you WANT to be a top rated seller you are required to offer it and since I like the benefits of being a TRS I offer free returns. It isn't about the return it is about being a TRS...
I had someone request a refund and he provided just a black image and said the item was broken and that I knew it was broken. I apologized told him to please send me photos of the item. He said he already did and then didn’t respond again (I don’t accept returns) I talked to eBay and they told me to accept the return and send a label. I received the item back and it was obvious that he had purposely damaged the item when I didn’t issue a refund and requested a return. I contacted eBay and told them what had happened and they issued him a refund and issued me the sale price. eBay made it right by me but also all of the feedback that he has given has been item is damaged (which he also left for me) which leads me to believe that he does this hoping people will just issue a refund and not request the item back.

Thanks for sharing. MY GO TO TAPE! :) I recently bought a phone battery advertised as NEW. Received it, and noticed it obviously wasn't new. I wanted to buy a new battery for a new phone I wanted to sell. I couldn't sell it with this messed up battery. The sellers insisted on contacting them outside of ebay via personal email. Well no wonder, they illegally used first class postage (63 cents) to mail me the battery. When I went to post office to return it, they literally laughed at me because a phone battery has to be mailed ground delivery as a package, NOT first class envelope because lithium batteries can cause FIRE on the AIRPLANE! I've never by-passed ebay protocol, and this cost me. I'm afraid to leave a negative review for fear of retaliation - especially after I called them out on it. Lesson learned.

Great show again! I look at my ASP once in a while. We have fun finding things and listing them, so we do have some small stuff which doesn’t bother me. We try though to keep our ASP around $20-25. This is a part time gig for us right now. If we ever ramp up I will be more concerned about keeping the ASP higher. #MyGoToTape
The first thing that you do is open up a postal investigation... I tell the miscreant no problem I will open up a postal investigation, someone will probably be out to talk to you fairly soon... something like that would have been sent Priority Mail anyways.. they usually immediately back off... which happened regularly when I was selling on Amazon... no crappy Amazon postage involved
I used to have an RC car like that. Also a truck. Got them both from the DarkToyGrandaPa. Don't know what ever happened to them. Just one of those things that stopped existing one day I guess. Too bad. They were really fun.

Another scumbag are the ones that use flat rate boxes and materials to ship normally or even UPS. Bought 20ish items and 10 came like that using bubble mailers as cushioning. Putting bags over flat rate boxes. My average sale amount is $27 so pretty low. I blame my board game parts 😂. 30ish part a month is well worth selling tho.
So how is a hair bow the same as a iPhone? How can eBay take the side of a thief? He got a iPhone and returned a hair bow? How can this happen and eBay just blow it off?? This is the stuff that keeps potential sellers ( like me) from starting an account on eBay! With all the technology available today these scams should NEVER HAPPEN!! It seems that eBay is more concerned with making money then protecting sellers and putting an end to scammers working their woes!!

Wow, I haven't even thought about Griswold's in years. I have fond memories of going there with my Mom and Grandmother as a kid and remember the fancy cakes and such they would wheel around on a cart for you to try to choose just one for a yummy dessert. My Mom loved that place and was quite upset the day we drove out there from my childhood home in Fullerton only to find it had closed. That was no small trek as my Mom did not drive the freeways. Grandma always called it a Smorgasbord as my Grandfather was from Denmark. We also made a yearly trip to Solvang. I'd love to try the new Go To Tape from American Bubble boy. My sales have become consistent since I started listing all the Barbies and dollhouse furniture I have amassed in the last few decades! so I go through some tape!
My husband and I have been very part-time on eBay since 2002. We have 100% perfect feedback. We have sold 845 items and never had a scammer . We have sold a few $200 items but nothing more than that. Most of our items range from the $8 to $50 range. We sell a lot of preowned watches and costume jewelry that we buy in mystery lots , knickknacks , craft supplies and miscellaneous items. My husband now has his own eBay account to sell on, I also sell a Mecari and Etsy I have been on Etsy since 2008 and Mecari for a couple years .
Next year we will be full-time when he retires and will continue doing things the way we are now. Except going full-time instead of very part time. I’m glad to get this advice though because anybody could have this happen it’s nice to know what tools to have to fight it. Thanks for sharing this story. I’m so glad the guy got his money back!
Sold a queen vinyl with the fat bottom girl poster. The buyer said it was damaged dir8ng shipping. I did a return no problem. Buyer kept the poster and sent the vinyl back. Ebay sided with me and never returned buyer. I kept my money and ebay said they flagged the buyer for future transactions

Years ago I sold four $12 beanie babies to a lady in Singapore. She gave me four negative feedbacks saying fake. Full refund. I bought those from distributors. People are crazy.
Our worst eBay loss was shipping not one, but two hobby helicopters to Australia. They claimed they received "toys" and eBay refunded them without even requiring they ship them back. We appealed until we finally gave up. We lost $1200.00. This was in the early days of eBay and we just quit shipping overseas until they came out with the Global Shipping Program. We once sent out a $900.00 radio control radio that they said didn't work. They sent us back an antique remote not worth a penny. We went through all the appeals processes and finally received our money back. We've shipped over 250K items on eBay so these two isolated incidents are a drop in the bucket. You learn and move on. A part of my system is the SKU boxes which holds most of my inventory. First of the year I go back to number one and check all the items in there if they need to be relisted I do that or donated. Then I proceed to fill the box with fresh listed inventory.

Ive only had 1 issue. The buyer purchased a pair of pants, and paid right away. I shipped the pants, then after they received them, they said they didnt know that they paid for them... something like that. I actually didnt have to do anything. Ebay took care of it. They kept the pants, and i kept my money.

I also dont want items worth more then $100, seems to be where most scams happen.
I sold a Suncatcher. Customer said it broke in shipping sent pictures of a bunch of broken glass I thought was the item. So I just refunded. Then I get a package in the mail from the buyer. It’s a completely different broken Suncatcher. Then they have the audacity to contact me and tell me there’s something wrong with the original one that I sent that was not actually broken. Trying to get back more money
Loved listening to the radio, including shortwave, when I was a kid. Eventually, that interest led to a 25 year career in commercial radio in several cities, including Cincinnati and Boston. When I saw the Sylvania transistor radio, I had to do a little research on it. It wasn't the very first transistor radio ever made. It was Sylvania's first one, and it's relatively rare. As for the $175.00 you got for it, I found a few in good shape online that fetched north of $400.00 but those sales were not on eBay. Well spotted purchase by your dad, though. I wish I'd found it. I probably would have kept it! 😉
My lockable feature was gone for a while. I complained through eBay for business. It was fixed in less than an hour, coincidence? Not sure.
Selling since 1996,, never paid attention to ASP... I just look at my overall net profit.
My son send a $1500 golf putter to Las Vegas from Australia. The guy kept saying he didn't received it. He opened up a claim for a refund. My son hasn't got many sales under his belt. Lucky I used my auspost business account and paid for the insurance which is pretty pricey. In the end I talk to Australia Post and they said that he's parcel was sitting at his post office waiting be able to pick it up. I don't know if he didn't know is it the post office. Son told him to go and ask at post office twice. He kept saying it wasn't there. In the end my son said that it's definitely sitting at such and such post office and we never heard anything after that. I don't know if the guy was waiting to get a refund and then go pick up the putter. Cheers Graham
I sold a really nice & really expensive JL AUDIO Amp, I had hooked it up the day before I posted it for sale, buyer gets it, burns it up, admitted they did, then they took it to the stereo shop just to have them tell them that it was burnt up, I asked why they didn't take it to the stereo shop and have them do the install, but they open a case, so I told them to send it back to me, they claimed to ship it to an old address, on my dime, but I never got it, so I lost my jl Amp the $ for it, the shipping to the buyer and back even though I never got it back, and ebay sided with the buyer, I was not happy! I quit selling on there for a while... But they've protected me a few times in 2023!
For years, I sold antique barbells and appliance parts and never had a scammer from those sales. Specialized/obscure hobbies seem to have more serious/mature buyers. Like a vintage radio enthusiast is much less likely to play games than someone buying an iPhone.
I remember Griswold's! Their raisin bran muffins were awesome. My aunt and grandmother would always take their largest purses to take some of them "extra" ones from the buffet home!🤣🤣
re: ebay scammers had a few but story from this time last year, beginning of October buyer purchased a brand new sealed "Halloween" skeleton dress up costume, returned 2 days after Halloween as "not as described" costume torn at seam under arm? ebay issued full refund including shipping charges.
My wife always comments that it seems like I’m wasting my time when I tell her I made $2 profit on a small, but what I point out to her is the fact that I may have paid only a $1 for that item, which nets me a 100% return. If all my investments netted me a 100% return, we would be Millionaires.

Its getting higher this year I had to fight over 3 items in past 60 days with fraud attempts. Mostly trying to file return and asking me to just refund all money if not they will leave negative feedback. So they leave negative feedback ebay has to remove it because goes under extortion and they never mail the item back in time. I know people fall for this and eBay doesnt ban these people.
I haven't been doing this long enough to be scammed yet. I dread the day, I read a bunch of comments i can't believe people do things like this and some get away with it. Sad 😢 people go to this extreme makes you wonder how they sleep at night. Thanks so much for all the interesting content. I could always use some My go 2 tape. 😊
I went through the exact same thing several years ago, somehow, I realized it in just a couple of days. So, I called the post office where it was being delivered. The person was already under investigation by the postmaster general. They intercepted it and returned it to me. And sent me an affidavit to sign to assist in their investigation. It was a 900. sale on a phone.

If you sell an item and use global shipping, once it arrives in KY at the center, you are no longer responsible for the item correct? The seller of the phone, must have shipped on their own? Always ship through the global center!

I am a seller but recently put an offer on an item on ebay and in doing so it asked for my payment information. Is ebay now finally making a bidder enter their payment information, like Mercari is already doing?
I have had one person that has bought from me over 50 times all under different usernames but all going to the same address and same person. I have called eBay and nothing was done about it so I went to the post office and they investigated it and said the person is getting thousands of packages a day. I am assuming they did something about it because now he tried it again and is trying to ship the stuff to another address down the street from where he was before.

i sold a item that was heavy stainless steel pan, they did a return request it was damage in shipping with a dent on the side. so i said return it and are refund you, they said ok but sent a msg at the same time that they could not send it, so i waited for it to come. a day (12 hours) before they could get eBay to step in, tracking come on it and check it nothing on it, good thing i was keep a eye on it because nothing said it was there, i phone up eBay the next day and told them what was going on and they sided with me and they did ask eBay to step in but eBay said on the report i phone and that tracking had no info on it and even said the photo they upload was not right, i look at it on my pc and yes the floor behind it was pulled a bit, they were label a scammer and the account was banned.
this is one long scam but it so they get the item and money at the same time. just think if they did this one 20 accounts it adds up
My go-to tape is okay. Some of the cardboard cores are soft and so when you go to stretch the tape you end up creating an oval from the cardboard core and then you have to take the tape off your tape dispenser and reshape it back to a circle before you can use it again.
When I run out of tape stock, I will be trying My Go To Tape.
I keep mine on LOCK on solds don’t like going back and forth

Sold a bose wave radio and once received they opened a case stating not as described and wanted a refund. Once received back relisted as parts not working and resold. New customer stated that the insides had been switched and did not belong in that unit.
Yea they do that when needing help you get the like the script went threw this myself with a new in box vcr no matter how much u explain why it wrong they just put you threw process so to speak so they can say it fair to every one got the money back but it was tied up a long time due to waiting on the see if u can work it out with customer shipping of item back and so on
I'm a seller on ebay & have to say I've had just as many scammers as sellers as buyers. 🤷🏼♀️

I just started reselling this year. It is allowing me to take care of myself financially and is interesting and fun. I've been watching you and a handful of others for several months and really appreciate the information you share. This is the first time I heard you were raised in Yucaipa. I'm in San Bernardino and it's fun to hear you reference the things out in this area. Boy would it be great to be in Tennessee rather than here, lol, but I won't move that far from my grandkids at this point in my life. One bonus about selling lower value items, its less likely to be scammed with a return .
