I don’t sell cheap items with free shipping but sales have still dropped off dramatically. The EBay issues are real.

That is one thing I never ever did or do as a seller is Free Shipping. When I buy, I look at the combined price of the item and postage, many are cheaper when you pay the postage cost as a buyer, as many sellers over-inflate prices to give free shipping. I just sell at good prices and just above the postage cost I pay to cover my packaging costs, most buyers are very happy with my packaging & if they are happy then I am. Thank you, Don Charles, in the UK.

I don't list anything for under $15 anymore, and no longer accept or make offers on eBay for less than $12, less than $10 anywhere else. My fees have definitely gone up, which has really changed how I list on eBay. I do sell on other sites and crosslist. Often now, I price my items for other sites, even though I list them on eBay. My sales have started picking up. I cannot list very fast, though. I won't sell anything big unless I get $50 or more. I sold books on Amazon for 16 years. The last few years, I would not sell a book for under $10. I learned well from you, and others like you. It makes me happy that Wall Street is backing out of eBay. I now keep track of everything, the different eBay fees included. Thanks for the reminder, Don!

books that are not antique or rare, hardly sell on ebay anymore because there are monopolies from sellers giving away books. Its a shame for small sellers.

I have a lot of higher value items and lower cheap stuff. It's only the cheap stuff that is selling and the higher value items have dropped in value by 50%. Markets change. I get it. Of course when I buy new inventory, I look only for high end items. However, in my area the inventory just isn't available anymore. Not sure what happened to all the stuff I used to be able to buy, but it doesn't seem to be there anymore.

@@dana44ismI was in goodwill a few days ago. Literally no inventory except cheap clothes, children's books and stuff animals. The hard goods shelves were literally bare. It was a waste of time. Gone are the days you can find a diamond in the rough. All hard goods that were there were damaged. I do believe they cherry pick everything. I'm officially done going there.

I agree with you Don! It drives me nuts to see people think they are making money selling an item for $4.99 and free shipping! Even if they get the product free with all other expenses they are not making money and they are muddying the water for the rest of us! I stopped doing free shipping years ago and it not effect my business. I also stopped selling anything below $20. If it’s going to be cheap I do like you do and make a lot and sell as a grouping. I wish more people understood what you are saying here! Good video as usual!

When I still sold, I stopped handling anything sold for under $20 with calculated shipping. If I wasn't making minimum wage selling the item, it wasn't worth selling. EIther lot up lower value items or donate it for the tax deduction.

High quantity sales are the only way to be successful in lower value items. My store is specific niches. I do have 10 dollar items free shipping on 80% of items. Many of my buyers will buy several pieces in one transaction thus giving much better profit margins. No one said owning your own business would be easy.

I can't see how anyone can sell items at 5 bucks with free shipping- even if they get the items for free and get a discount on shipping thousands of items... Still can't see the time spent to list/ship being worth the tiny profit available.

Past two years I was not able to drive to the areas I usually source, do to my daughter diagnosed with kidney disease. Hopefully next year we can travel and her disease will be more stable. Also what I have experienced if you just stating high price items don’t sell. It takes time to build reputation and store. Good points. EBayers seem to forget it's a small business, and most of the same principles are the same as a brick and mortar. Would you put that on your shelf? At that price? You're paying rent on that space just like a lease for a storefront. Take an Intro to Business or a beginning retail class if you don't have the experience.

So it’s very possible to make money in some niches on then after fees and taxes I make $200 an hour on the small stuff or $75 an hour on the $25-100 stuff in my niche (too much to clean and photograph and find accessories for)

Just keep listing those items, probably by the hundreds like Don and other big sellers do. Once you see your income increase then cut your work time and keep listing more and more items. I don't want to do this as a full-time shop seller, I'm happy selling a few items a month, just get a little frustrated when things aren't selling each month. Best of luck to you in the future as a seller.

I still do the perfume / skin care buy outs - like offer on the whole box or whole table of stuff. It can range vastly in value. Unfortunately everyone does free shipping with those items so I have to compete. Its easier than selling stereo equipment but value isn't as much. Sometimes I get lucky and get a few items that value $60+ each but other items its more of a volume sale. I have got to point doing lots to sell old stock. The problem is doing this - shipping costs seem to keep going up so if its less than $10 may as well put it in a lot. Now if I can get someone to buy all of my stereo equipment. It used to be big seller but no one wants it now.

Hello, just found you on RUclips. I’m not unfamiliar to selling on eBay but my question is when is the best time to start listing vintage Christmas items? I collected for about 20 years and have about 30 big boxes of everything from foliage, glass linens, and ornaments.
Also, I have several sets of old delicate
Papier-mâché ornaments. Should I sell them separately or as a set?
One more question. My husband has about 8 boxes of sleeved comics he collected in the 80-90’s. Haven’t even opened them in 20 or so years. If they are yellow at that top where the sleeve opens does that make them invaluable? Thanks for any help you can give me. 😊

Yes. This is advice all resellers need to grasp.
I figured this out a long time ago.
Today, sales are going great. My ASP, so far, this year is over $100. Selling costs are pretty high (38%) but I measure the dollars going to my bank account.
As you mentioned, there are other expenses that need to be figured in.
One thing to cover in a future video, is the effect inflation has had on our numbers.
Personally, my sales are way up from pre Covid (2019) but converted to todays dollar it really isn't all that much of an increase.

I gave up on cards about 3 years ago. The big dogs have the market bcuz they can sell what were once or still are high-valued stars for pennies.
And the kids have ruined it too, especially when I see Ohtani inserts listing (and selling) for a couple bucks.
      Same with vinyl.
True collector's items sell for basically chump change.
America's culture is just about null and void. People want a whole bag of worthy merchandise for a couple bucks, and there are multitudes of sellers willing to sell it to them.

The issue here is that too many categories are overstaurated. A lot of people just can't get collectibles or vintage items. Books, jeans and various other items are just not worth enough to sell. Thrift is just about a dead source now as they are trying to sell at online rates without doing sold comps. I feel that resale is now for the limited few as there is just not enough to go around. I have tried selling cosmetics and that has become a race to the bottom.
