      @newtongirl2430 Год назад +3

      First, how are you going to get 10s of millions of sellers to all stop promoted listings? Second, try stopping promoting listings if you have only a small store of less than 500 items and are listing about 5 per day. See what happens to your traffic and sales. The auction professor has close to 35,000 items and is listing way over 100 items per day. You have to compare similar situations.

    • @la6136

      I agree I have found that increasing promoted listings does not necessarily help sales at all. I get more sales with a lower promoted listings % or no promoted listings at all then the ones I had with 10% promoted listings.

    • @dreWRX
      @dreWRX Год назад +6

      eBay definitely flipped a switch on this promoted listing mess within the algorithm. I refuse to partake in the money grab so none of my listings are promoted. In one day my daily sales dropped drastically and have not returned to previous levels. I have done nothing different. Still listing daily..even more actually..still the same items that regularly sold. Account is in perfect health, Top Rated, 100% +FB, etc. Now most days I have one low dollar sale and very low views on all items.
      If this is the algorithm pushing out sellers who don't promote, eBay is taking a big risk with their quarterly earnings. If my sales are way down it's not doing eBay any favors.

    I totally agree. I sell very niche and unique vintage items and for this reason I actually do not even send people saving the item a large discount offer. I do send and offer, but not above 10%. Because I know that if they really are a collector and want it, they are not going to pass by my item over a few dollars difference. Sending an offer for me is much more about keeping my item in their awareness and popping up in their inbox. It boils down to how rare is your item and who actually wants it. That's why I do not haggle, If I send an offer and the person sends me a response of, but will you take a lower price, my standard response is a very polite 'sorry to disappoint, no thank you'. 9 times out of 10, they buy anyway. I call it playing Ebay Poker.

    It's a good thing that customers don't have to view to buy. I've heard that eBay has begun placing ads on the listing page for other sellers' similar items before they even scroll to the description. It's definitely smart to stick to the niches and unique items.

    Hi Don, sending some good news. I had never done End and Sell Similar in bulk before, until a few days ago. I have almost 3000 items in my eclectic vintage eBay store. I ended and sell similar relisted about 1800. Wow, what a difference. (The other 5 hundred were listed in spring and summer.) I've sold things, or at least got watchers, on items that have been for sale for a long time. Cathy from Massachusetts

    It's insane. Been listing similar items from many categories since 99'. I have no store it's not a business. I used to get views and watchers and would sell things. The last year or more it's very quiet, sales have dwindled down to very little. I don't think anyone sees my listing or nobody is browsing / buying. They push 'promoted' listing $$$. Thinking of trying another platform....

    Do you think "promoting" even at 3% pushes sales? Does Ebay take into consideration the fact that you are promoting when they see items or do they see an algorithm and put you higher on the list because of promotions? Just wanted to see everyone's opinion. I am testing now. I took off all promotions as of today and will see what happens. Thank you so much for sharing your wisdom.

  • @dreWRX
    @dreWRX Год назад +4

    I agree watchers mean very little, but there are some benefits having watchers. As mentioned, offers can be sent, but it also flags the listing in search results and listing itself as having watchers. So if part of a buyer's prerogative in picking a seller is that others are interested as well, the item may have a better chance at selling. I do regularly check my watched items because it lets me know the interest that others have in my items and what may be a future sale. Even if it never gets bought, at least someone was interested (although it may be another seller) and I may not pull it from my inventory as a dead item. The only thing that annoys me is that if the buyer never un-watches the item, it will forever be a watched item. eBay should add the option for sellers to kick it from buyers watch list if say a year has gone by, or just do it automatically with a warning to the buyer.

    I've had sales that have been on for weeks with no views, and then someone will come along and just buy and pay for the item. Views aren't that important, but I like to see watchers of my items. eBay have stuffed sales up for many people, I look at my item on the screen and eBay are showing many sellers selling the same thing for different prices. All this will do is force sellers like me to undercut other sellers to be able to sell your item. This is so wrong, surely it's hitting eBay's income & profits with low prices on the platform, at least I hope it's hitting eBay, as It's hitting me with pages of the same items I am selling with other seller items on my page. Thank you, Don. Charles in the UK Ps I will never do free shipping EVER.

    Completely agree! Been selling since 2002…PIONEER DAYS (when both parties were in control of their own funds & you could MAIL A CHECK to the seller!🤣)…I’m not a huge huge seller, but decently consistent. I’ve never “depended” on my sales, it’s always been a hobby…but I pride myself on having a good eye & finding greaaat deals!! Like you, I believe many of my watchers are other sellers who want to sell an item like mine…we alll do that, don’t we?…these numbers do not matter! I’m not a proponent of immediately sending an offer to a watcher simply because …I believe this method has trained buyers to EXPECT the seller to accept the offer AND, 3/4 of the time, the buyer won’t pay! As a rule, people know they can always email the seller & make an offer (99.9% of those who do this with me, I indulge their offer with gratitude!! ~ ALSO, this allows me to modify my listing price specifically for them, SO I’ll GET PAID…the “make offer” payment system is BAD!! Buyers don’t even have to pay!..sellers get screwed!) ….I love that you mentioned the promoted listing comments 8:05-10:30. I believe it’s totally a money grab also! I have some with zero results. Forget that!! I’m new here, new sub..Your video just popped in my feed! Great video.

    As a new seller with only moderate success the views are what I am using to determine if people are even seeing the listing. And each month resetting the count, obfuscates which items are still not being seen so I wouldn't be able to know to change things on it.
    I'm sure views are useless _when sales are being made,_ but I don't like that they changed the counter because it's harder to know what listings need fixing.

    Ive been doing this full time since 98' on multiple selling marketplaces i sell mostly niche items some mine is the only listed and some there might be 25 but when there are itens on ebay that have hundreds even thousands i have always had this mindset especially with items that there are 10 or less i say if they want it they will buy it n If not they can find it elsewhere. I also have this mindset you only need one person to buy an item (then just got to stumple upon it) which makes watchers and likes mean nothing

    It sold on ebay instead of all those likes on Mercari.

    I don't know if I'm doing something wrong or what but I've been trying to sell collectible Coins and Currency on ebay and I'm getting almost nothing accomplished! I put them up in a Auction format and some of the current Coins I have up SHOULD be selling for a BUNCH more than they are. For example I put up a $1 dollar very collectible Note for a starting bid of .99 cents. From other listings I've looked at on ebay and what my experience tells me this Note should bid up and sell in excess of $10 to $15 dollars or so.....but nope. After being "relisted" 3 times it finally sold for....99 cents!!! So in most cases I give Free Shipping so in effect I'm losing money! That's just one example. Now if I pay the ebay "Promote Listing" fee the Coins/currency gets more action but I still ended up losing even more money. Again, I don't know what I'm doing wrong.

    The problem I have is items I used to sell frequently and got views are no longer getting views or selling like hey did. Can't reset views when you get 0 views on an item within the 30 days. I sell vintage auto parts. This stuff used to go fast.

    I had an item with 32 views and I said "Holey Moley! 32 people looked at it and didn't buy it?" So I ended and sold similar. Most of views are probably sellers stealing my description, lol

      I guess you did NOT watch the video as this was STATED MANY times in the video. As I CLEARLY statred in the video the ONLY watchers we even look at are the ones we can send offers to.

      @@TheAuctionProfessor hi, i think regardless of being they are watchers or not....its okay to send them offers. The more receivers of offers, the more chances of buying.

      One is not allowed to send offers to all watchers. Offers you get to send are handed to you by eBay only. So watchers mean nothing, but offers sent lead to sold listings. Make sense now?!🧚🏻‍♂️🔨

    Good items at good prices matters. I make more with 75 listings than most make with a thousand listings.rarity and desirability matters most to me.
