    I'm not sure what I did to my neck but it was the stiffest it has ever been and this practice wonderfully opened me right up. It still hurts a bit to stretch it looking up but I feel a hundred times better. Thank you!

    I have been practicing different types of yoga for a long time and almost all asanas for beginners are easy for me. I have also tried dozens of different yin yoga sequences. But during the training according to this video I experienced quite unusual sensations. On the exercise that starts at 25:12 I feel very strong discomfort on top and lower back, very strong fear and desire to cry. What other exercises would you recommend to get rid of these feelings?

      Hi Ivan - as long as there is no sharp pain or discomfort - remember you can always stop and take a rest. It is important that you should listen to your body. Feeling fear in a chest opener yoga pose is quite common and can be for a number of reasons. Chest openers expose the heart area, both physically and emotionally. This can make you feel vulnerable, as you are opening up a part of your body that is often protected. Chest openers can release stored emotions. The heart chakra, located in the chest, is associated with love, compassion, and emotional well-being. Opening this area can sometimes bring unresolved emotions to the surface. I cry often in my practices. Emotions surface and I let them pass. But this takes some getting use to in class. I welcome the release.
      If you have tightness or tension in your chest, shoulders, or back due to lifestyle and or micro tension, a chest opener can be physically uncomfortable or even painful, which can lead to feelings of fear or anxiety. I recommend approaching slowly and for shorter times and then work up to a longer hold.
      Chest openers can alter your breathing pattern. If you find it hard to breathe deeply or comfortably in the pose, this can cause a fear response.
      Previous experiences or trauma that involved the chest or heart area can be triggered during a chest opener, causing fear or anxiety.
      Also consider that sometimes the music or the moment with the class may contribute to your response.
      Recognizing these feelings is the first step to addressing them. You might find it helpful to ease into chest openers gradually, focus on your breath, and ensure you're practicing in a safe and supportive environment.

    Hi Rebekah! I’m only yoga-curious but I have a question: If I suddenly get a big urge to stretch, should I just go with my own flow or try to focus in on a particular pose?

      Hey Mark! Great question. Listening to your body is key. Creating the intuitive connection with your body is paramount. However, if you follow that urge to stretch and then you do but don't feel that it is "quenching" your need - then follow along in a video or in a class. It's also nice to get some ideas from different poses and instruction. We tend to do the poses we are most comfortable with and in order to change and grow sometimes we have to move outside that comfort zone. Please let me know if that helps. Have a lovely day!
