I had to move "The Captain and Tenille's" concert equipment from LA to Atlantic City and then back to Tahoe. They were pleasant to work with. Tony was almost 6 feet tall which surprised me.
I had their records in the 70's. I just adored them and their music was always great. Thank you for sharing the story behind the duo. There were things that I did and didn't know about them. I'm glad they remained friends.
Oh my going back down memory lane. In the earlier years, they were performing at a place called the Ice House in Pasadena, California. God they were so cute. Her beautiful voice and their music was definitely template of my youth. Thank you for the music Toni and Daryl.
Yeah he has been gone for 5years now rest in peace captain keyboard aka Daryl dragon. Miss you and Toni tennille s music 🎶 alot I have their record album s 45single record s CDs and cassette tape s. As well in my collection of music on my shelf
I absolutely loved the Love will keep us Together tune! But at the end she sings “ Sedaka is back”! Thus Neil Sedaka in the limelight again! I really liked him !
Enjoyed most of their hits, but the ones that really give me the ultimate pleasure are "Song of Joy" and "Butterscotch Castle". The former has one of Toni's best vocals-just beautiful and so uplifting. The latter, a sweet and inviting little tune that's always a treat to give a listen to. RIP Captain D. Best of love and luck, dear Toni. You still have A LOT of fans and admirers out there!
The Captain & Tennille hosted their own variety show on ABC from 1976-1977-Although the ratings were reasonably good, they opted not to return for a second season-Basically,they wanted to focus on touring.
I honestly don't remember hearing anything from or about them after the late 70's. But they sure were big when I graduated high school in 1976. And got married in 1977. It's been 45 years, (or it will be on Dec 17) but I think our first dance was to Love Will Keep Us Together.
I was a HUGE mark for Captain and Tennille😂...never missed an episode of their variety show in the 70's, and had purchased the Love Will Keep Us Together LP, cassette, and CD...now I have all of those songs on my Amazon Music acct...big THANK YOU for shedding light on them
As a keyboard player myself since i was 10, Daryl was the first keyboard player I remember seeing as a kid on tv in the 70’s playing his organs and electric pianos and Arp synths. I am a life long fan with several of their records and even Tonis rare solo jazz cd.😊
We all would love to think that " love will keep us together" and keep our vows " till death do us part" but in reality, it's much different in our golden years. My wife and I are in the medical field and see spouses married for decades leave as they can't deal with the health problems and responsibilities of a chronically ill spouse. It takes a tremendous toll and sacrifice to deal with a dying or ill person 24/7. Sounds like Tenille did her best, however.
Tenille didn't divorce her husband because he was ill. She left him because he was very closed emotionally, and later came to the conclusion he may have had some form of autism.
There are quite a few but two of my favorite songs but Love Will Keep Us Together and Muskrat Love are Do That To Me One More Time and their cover of the Smokey Robinson and The Miracles hit You Better shop Around.
"Did Obamacare Destroy the Captain and Tennille's Marriage?" That's what one headline read when the two split; believe it or not, there is some truth here. Daryl wanted a much bigger medical insurance settlement from the divorce, something Toni would not grant. In his final days, he could not keep up with hospital expenses but his wife was required to be by his deathbed. I love the coda to "Love Will Keep us Together": "Na, na, na, na, na/Sedaka is back!"
They were known as THE Captain and Tenille. How popular were they? In the late '70s, a friend of my daughter's was named Tenille. But it was her FIRST name, so it was pretty strange. BTW, my daughter, who was about 7 years old, called her "Ten-NEEDLE".
Occasionally with a "The" at the start, but usually not a "The" in their duo crediting on fronts of their album covers. But always her last name should have been spelled Tennille; you misspelled that just like FV did each time.
I remember when I bought the wall album and say her credit on it. She doesn't sing on it. Rather that she has the spoken line heard "What a huge tub! Wanna take a bath? "
According to several sources: For the album, the groupie was voiced by Canadian actress Trudy Young whom co-producer Bob Ezrin had worked with in Toronto earlier that year. Her voice-over performance was recorded in one day in August, 1979 at Nimbus Nine Soundstage Studios in Toronto, Canada. According to urban legend Toni Tenille voices the groupie but actually she sang backing vocals on “The Show Must Go On” and “Waiting for the Worms.”
She loved him to the end!! They got along extremely well!! Tabloid trash tried to slander them and made their lives miserable!! I know that one of them couldn’t have children and possibly this gave the tabloids and talk show trash something to gossip about.
I just found an interview where she said that for years, she was afraid to disappoint the fans who viewed them as a couple and duo. And till she finally decided to divorce him, because he felt not very loved during the marriage and appreciated. A lot of spouses stick around for many reasons even though they’re wasting their time with that particular person which is sad.
Well to me he was lucky to hook up with her and married her because he wasn't go nowhere with the Beach boys and he became famous with her in their own right I wonder what became of them
He was excellent friends with Glen Campbell also.Glen Campbell and Daryl Dragon got tired of the drugs and booze that The Beach Boys were doing!! So they both left!!
I liked The Captain And Tennille but it is disappointing you didn't get all of the facts right as I often see in your videos. They lived together but were not in love. At least not enough to get married. They only got married because their manager pressured them to because it would help sell records. Toni left him because she is a lesbian and wanted to marry and live with her female lover. Darrell was ill some time before she left him which doesn't make her look too good. She kept her being a lesbian a secret from him and had been seeing her for years. Darrell said after the divorce that he didn't have any idea she was a lesbian.
...🎄ELAINEWASHINGTON🎄... THE DUO WERE GREAT TEAM. MY HUSBAND & I ENJOYED THEIR MUSIC & HIS WIFE TINELLE HAD A GREAT SINGING VOICE. I WAS SAD TO HEAR ABOUT THEIR DIVORCE. You misspelled “Tennille” every single time in the writing, and in your replying! With all due respect, how can you be so inept and disrespectful about that? Did you get Toni Tennille’s permission to botch her name and to make and post this video to benefit you? I’ll watch it if you reply truthfully you did. I’ve come to expect clickbaiting from you. Have a nice day.
Dennis was the least talented singer &/or musician in the Beach Boys. While studio musicians played most parts on their records, they also hired a drummer for live shows. He was the only surfer in the band, & spent his time surfing, drinking, drugging, & screwing, while the other worked on the music. That's fine, but starting his own band? Please.
I think she was beautiful did you ever see the size of the diamond on her hand you could choke a horse with that thing then they were loaded or she was in the seventies mind you
That is because he didn't truly love her. He also had Asperger's Syndrome, a form of autism, so he couldn't connect with her intimately and emotionally.
@@suzannetaylor9356 She DIVORCED him when he got sick. "Even though they were living separately" is a nice way of saying she LEFT HIM WHEN HE GOT SICK. You are real spin artist, aren't you??
According to her book, Capt. turned weird. Locked himself in his studio and didn't produce anything what was in his contract with record companies later on.
Daryl had Asperger Syndrome, a form of autism. People with this psychological disorder are often emotionally distant and cannot connect with others in an intimate, loving or romantic way that is normal, which means, likely, no "passion" in their relationship. This does not mean they never had sex. But as Toni stated, their 39-year marriage was very emotionally unsatisfying for her.
Maybe tenille didn't arouse him. What the hell did she do to her cheeks? Why get a divorce if you stay around with each other. Muskrat love was a stupid song..
