    I love this!!!! This made me smile from ear to ear and you know I never knew that the decision not to have kids had medical reasons as well as professional reasons behind it. She looks so beautiful, of course as she always does and did!! I love the questions too, really cool ones, unusual ones too! Thanks so much for posting Darren!!!

    Thanks for posting this Darren. Toni is just so down to earth and honest. She would have made a great Mom! And I like when Toni talks about Daryl , he is a funny guy, sweet guy. I will always be thankful I got to speak with him in Prescott August 2009.

      I think she was still waiting for him telling her he loved her. Even if he did it would be words and not action.

      I don't believe it, and I'm not emotionally invested. But in the end I don't think it was the fairy tale perhaps she hoped it would be. People even celebs don't stay married forty years just for the fans.

    It’s so easy to judge others, isn’t it. It looks a bit like he may have Asperger syndrome, which isn’t well understood, even now. People are so much more complex and multifaceted than can be captured in an interview like this or even from her book.

      I’m glad someone else thought this. I was an infant during the height of their popularity, but still remember hearing their songs being played when I was a kid & love them. I just started watching interviews on them, but that’s the first impression that came to mind watching him.

    So, from what I am reading online, she actually divorced him so she wouldn't have to spend all their money taking care of him when he got sick...unbelieveable! And, she claims he didn't love her! I used to listen to their music growing up, but I was never really interested in them until I saw that she wrote a book claiming that their marriage was basically a loveless, career move; that she was in love with him but that he never showed her any affection. I found that intriguing, and wanted to learn more. Watching old interviews and from what I have read, I can kind of believe that. Personally, I think he got pressured into marrying her by her family so it's kind of understandable why he could not show her any affection, why he looked at it as more of a business arrangement. She seems to have been the more domineering personality in interviews, the one who enjoyed the limelight. He was pretty indifferent, but I thought a very funny man when he was just being his shy, quiet self. I think there's more than meets the eye with these two.

    • @np100

      He seemed to have Asperger's syndrome. Also, he had a long illness that costs thousands for dialysis, etc. They were not millionaires and she divorced him so he could get proper care round the clock. He made her life miserable.

    You know I grew up with them. In another interview she said they were together 40 years. But he never reciprocated or told her he loved her! They say if you can't say something nice. When he passed away. There was a "rumor" about him I will not repeat. Maybe it is in her memoir. She also said she stayed with him for 40 years because the music is what kept them together. Again saying he could not open up to her. Even though she kept trying! I would say (in my most hur opinion solely) That is odd. For anyone married to put up with.

      Certainly the last few generations are habituated to easy divorce and would never stick around. But Toni was raised in the old south by parents with a very different view and priority of family and fidelity over self. It's hard for us without that breeding to understand but perhaps we can understand that different eras produced generations with profoundly different perspectives. It shaped their lives very differently from post-WWII children; ways that only seem odd to us now. In fact, our generations are much the weaker for it.

    Can you imagine asking someone such a personal question, "Was that just something you both decided that didn't fit into your career mode or your lifestyle choices...." I mean, who the hell asks someone a question like that?! What she really wants to know is, 'Is it that you can't physically have children, or did you choose not to have any?' Who the hell cares, anyway?! Love Toni. So sorry she chose this man to spend the best years of her life with. But she's too defensive of him. When this nosy interviewer said that Daryl was very quiet, Toni immediately jumped to his defense. Anyway, terrible interviewer.

    Has anyone ever thought that maybe they never really had that connection because he may have been secretly gay and just didn’t want the truth out there…or am I the only person to think this 🤔😏

  • @jasonkellogg388
    @jasonkellogg388 3 года назад +4

    I think that this whole thing about no deep connection and the unrequited love is a ruse. Daryl had chronic health problems that would have cleaned them both out financially, so it was a financial decision to divorce so that Daryl could give all the monies and quitclaim all of the properties to Toni. Then he could get on public assistance and move to a state-funded nursing home, go on disability, welfare, medicare, medicaid, whatever and Toni could keep the money and live off of dividend and interest income. Let the taxpayers pay for Daryl's health problems rather than Toni. The writing of the book and the book tour, all of the talk shows and interviews were just red herring, supporting the ruse. Good job, Toni. You really punked everybody!

    • @jeremynv89523
      @jeremynv89523 3 года назад +5

      The flaw in this reasoning is that it directly contradicts the divorce papers, which lay out an even split right down the middle of their assets.
      His medical situation may have played a part in it, but he certainly didn’t quit-claim all of his assets to her.

    • @jasonkellogg388

      @@jeremynv89523 OK, so he got his half to spend on whatever extra amenities he wanted in the nursing home. Still the same reason for divorce.

      Problems - being quiet may be turmoil inside of him. I know I married a man like that. The only difference is my ex-husband was not just emotional but physical and I don't tolerate that with anyone.

    She was married before this and divorced after 10 years. It's unfortunate that she would stay with someone who did't love her back for 40 years.

      @@sherrierichardson2428 well they pretty much do now because of the book....but I agree 100% with you, she absolutely loved him with all her heart and he loved her as best as he could in his own way just could not physically show it. Toni was with him when he passed away as you said and honored his wishes to have his ashes scattered at Granite Mountain in Prescott.

      @nicsfan4ever 5 лет назад +8

      @@RomicBianchi Was as valid as she could make it...he just could not physically show it towards her but she was in love with him, she loved him with all her heart. Sometimes you stay a lot longer than you want to as she did but recently since he has passed away an email that Daryl sent to their bandmate and friend Rusty Higgins just after he and Toni split up was sent to Toni from Rusty and it read "Toni left me, as well she should have" ...Daryl knew, he knew she was getting drug down with him and understood that she had to leave but as she said it was still heartbreaking.
