Deadpool was one of the best superhero movies of 2016, and it’s well known by now to be filled with tons of easter eggs. But beyond the obvious references to the Deadpool comics, Spider-Man, the X-Men, and the Marvel Cinematic Universe, there are even more missable jokes that Ryan Reynolds and the film's creators hid in nearly every shot. Erik Voss is here with deep insight from repeat viewings of the movie, early drafts of the script, deleted scenes, and commentaries and interviews, to give you a complete breakdown of Deadpool. Which jokes were considered too offensive for the movie? How might Deadpool connect with the X-Men in future sequels? What other versions of the story existed before the final cut? And why was Deadpool so well received, while Suicide Squad was criticized?

Wade Wilson really portrayed Ryan Reynolds well.
ikr
You mean reverse
Naw, they have it right lol
@@ChrisABlakely no because ryan reynold was the one who portrayed wade wilson well, not the other way around dumb*ss
@@tazinboor3913 its a joke lol
Watching this all these years in the future it’s crazy to see the growth in the channel
I swear
I liked how deadpool went around killing henchmen asking for Francis and they all knew him as Ajax
Talk about self defeating 😂😭
i love when the studio budget was so limited that instead of teasing cable scene < deadpool just told us about it
My favourite line was when he holds up his broken hands and says, "Everybody fears the T-rex." I laughed for like five minutes, straight.
All the dinosaurs feared the T-Rex.
@@DMNDR Not all. Trust me.
@@Galaxivist I was actually giving the correct line from the movie.
@@DMNDR I meant not all dinosaurs feared the T-Rex and not all feared Deadpool
Eric you've grown SO MUCH as a performer it's a delight to behold.
IKR
Where does he perform? What does he do?
@@Menibor1 on youtube. in fact, this very channel.
L E G E N D A R Y !
For real
What about the fact that Deadpool keeps asking for Francis but his whole crew knows him as Ajax...so he is killing people that have no idea what he is talking about?
Ikr !
lmao
Because the people that do know him as Francis are already dead because they said his name too much
😳😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
What’s Updyke?
Deadpool is easily my favorite super hero movie. I love what the "Disney" MCU did and I thought those were great movies, but Deadpool had a rather unique plot pattern, a very unique super hero, and comidic epicness that you just don't find in other super hero movies. Plus Ryan Reynolds is literally perfect for this role.
And now they are 1 in the same. All 1 big family
Deadpool wasn't under the mcu brand then, it was under fox
When you mentioned that Kevin Spacey's "character" was accused of being a little creepy ... OH BOY!!!!!
Definitely weird to see that connection put in here *_before_* all that came to light publicly. Seems like someone knew a little something..
The travel to exoctic lands, meet interesting people, and kill them, is also a reference to Full Metal Jacket.
I love full metal alchemist
R.I.P R Lee Ermey
I wanna be the first kid on my block to get a confirmed kill
Exotic
And also mentioned in Agents of Shield
The "Studio didnt have the budget for another x-man" joke works so well because DP is constantly breaking the fourth wall. The joke is not "unfair".
In Mexico El Cancer scenes got the biggest laugh in the theater.
I speak Spanish and since I went with my brother we laughed more than necessary.
I love this video _and I'll get to why later._
Alright, I'll wait for ya.
Ok
My next video will be all teases and I will NEVER GET TO WHY LATER.
Sam Russell
サパリーヤスシャント I
Love seeing this 5yrs later. Such growth NR
I thought Deadpool's budget was 47 cents and a paperclip
I thought it was minus 58 million.
Brennan Chamberlain me to 😂😂
Barack osama here to explain the joke its funny because he said a huge number but with a minus infront of it
It was just a very expensive paperclip
Your funny, but it was a good movie
‘Those guys could be connected in the future’ oh how right you were Voss.
The 127 Hours easter egg was forgotten. When he says "Ever see 127 Hours?" That is a reference to the movie (you guessed it) 127 Hours which is a true story about Aron Rolston whose got trapped while hiking. It ended with him having to amputate his own arm.
Whoa this video is old I'm watching this in 2021
“I think shit just went sideways in the most colossal way”
Shows figure of X-men Origins Deadpool. That one almost had me choking 🤣
well maybe not the MOST colossal
@@BetoPerez999 He did, could’ve and still might kill everybody….
I've always liked Ryan Reynolds, so I was happy he got to play Deadpool in a better film.
If you cut the deadpool into two pieces would both of those pieces regenerate into 2 deadpools?
Interesting
This has happened in the comics a psychotic girlfriend of deadpool pieced his corpse's broken of pieces to form a new body it's arm was backwards which was funny, this was whilst he was in England
+DeKuTree My mind jumped to the Spiderman Clone Saga from the 90's. I hope they make some sort of reference in the sequels.
If it was down the middle yes
so wouldnt there be a new deadpool EVERYTIME he gets any type of body part off anf everytime he bleeds.
Lootcrate ALERT! 16:22 - 17:31
thank god

same
lmfao RIGHT HERE!!!!
yep
Yup
Nah no I’m not
this was a brilliant breakdown. I'm loving the sheer attention to detail. mad props!
Didn't Tony Stark also "Go break some eggs" in Civil War RIGHT AFTER the events of Deadpool?
Yep
Shockingly all these people are still alive. But Arnold Palmer just died today. RIP
This is the best video explaining deadpool hidden references, thank you sooo much for making it..!! Been searching for a while now
It's frightening how Erik isn't behind a blue screen
Honestly, That moment he "started hearing voices" I thought it was his "4th Wall Powers" manifested.
Thanos is Cable. Wait what....
No
@@sassythesasquatch4386 -- Yes... Josh Brolin plays both Thanos and Cable.
@@sassythesasquatch4386 .
The clip after he gets hit by the garbage truck and jumps up in the body bag has me crying laughing oh my god
DeadpoolAnd Spiderman not only look like each other they both awesome with perfectly timed jokes
I just found this channel!! Sooooo happy!! Absolutely LOVE the commentary!!
HUGE THANKS!! ♡♡♡
God, I love Deadpool. I can't wait for 3.
Deadpool 3 is in the works over at marvel studios with R rating
That Kevin Spacey reference is a little more darker in hindsight
18:54 My god that has no aged well.
Ur so cool mr Ryan Millham 😎
Regina and Saskatchewan Roughriders reference when Deadpool lines up his 'field goal' kick. Diehard fandom.
So this is before they locked him in the blue dungeon
lolll
36:36 hahaha. Had to have a laugh at that 20th Century Fox taking Thanos
Josh Brolin was great but still think it would have been interesting to see Kevin Nash as Diesel
watched the whole video and loved it nice job Rockstars
I'm just so glad Ryan Reynolds got another chance at Deadpool, because the Wolverine Deadpool was a joke
When Ryan Reynald Says "Mitch" when he is guessing names @23:49 it is a reference to Ryan Reynalds movie "Waiting" Mitch is the trainee he is showing around in the restaurant.
travel the world, meet interesting people, then kill them.
thats from full metal jacket (looooong before origins)
It's actually a joke started by members of the U.S. military... most likely the Army but no one actually knows for sure. I first heard the joke when I was in the Navy in the early 80s (a few shipmates of mine even had T-shirts with that printed on it), but the joke preceded even that and might even date back to as far as the Vietnam War in the 70s, long before Full Metal Jacket (1987) was ever a thing. The writers for FMJ simply took a very common military, inside joke and inserted it into the movie... but it wasn't something that screenwriters conceived and created themselves.
YES, another video! Thank you so much!! :D
You really work hard on this! Thank you
Thanks for that. This is one of my favorite shows and its great to get an expert's perspective on it. Keep up the great wrk and I will keep watching.
Awesome video. Thank you for your attention to detail
very informative, thank you!
My cousin told me he didnt like Deadpool. We are not cousins anymore..
Oh boy
I will destroy him deadpool is like my dad.... well I wish
He must not have been abused as a child.
Scotty Ben1 69th like and yeah I’d disown him too
Hahahahaha
So many easter eggs I missed in the video, great video guys!
The gag where we look through the hole in DP's arm and the similar shot in Shaun of the Dead are both callbacks to Ernie Kovacs, who did it first.
Wow didn't know there were this many easter eggs, makes me love this movie more. Can't wait to see Cable
*To answer the Deadpool regeneration debate:*
Deadpool's regeneration and therefore immortality comes from him being a comic book character, the same way his awareness of it and 4th wall breaks come from his regeneration abilities.
He could loose as many limbs as possible, a head, or even completely disintegrate but he would regenerate completely into the character he is, and he knows that.
Unless TOAA (creator of the comics) chooses to erase his character, it will manifest again and again into a physical body.
No one gives a single shit
@@chaudcarte I do ;)

I cannot get enough of These two movies! I think they should keep making them and we will reassess after Deadpool 10.
The reason i love deadpool is befause of ryan so im so happy to hear how much he actually cared about this role and the deapool series in general
when he woke up in the body bag lol
*This movie had a special meaning for me*
*Btw the Kevin Spacey easter egg has a whole different meaning now*
Never posted before but hells bells this was awesome!!!
I’m glad I found this this shows come a long way I only started watching during the infinity war hype
How times have changed, the time where you didn't have the amazing blue dungeon
30:14 yes and when gets into the house the rag is clean.
love your videos subbed!
I think Jon Hamm would absolutely own Cable as a character. The often serious and reasonable foil to Wade's lunacy would fit Hamm really well. Also, I'm pretty sure that it was confirmed that Deadpool's healing factor does come from Wolverine specifically, in the comics at least.
The healing factor was also referenced in the video game. He said specifically that it came from Wolverine
7:08 well that's not true during the where Francis montage he uses guns frequently but other then that great video
omg Deadpool movie is so good. can't wait to watch Deadpool 2
"It's been a while since it came out"
Me in 2021 still rewatching this and waiting for a Deadpool 3
Wolverine is actually one of the few "Take-No-Prisoners" characters I consider to be a hero( as well as MCU's Black Widow and several others).
Please keep sponsor ad on the start of video or in the end, its annoying an middle. Still another great video
Agree. But then no one will really watch the promotion, probably would just skip it.
I've never really heard anyone mention this, but when deadpool goes to Xavier's mansion, hes gunna knock on the door and NTW answers before he gets the chance. Possibly because in the comics she has precognition and other telepathic powers, so she answers the door before wade knocks because she predicted he'd be there? Perhaps not?
Going back and rewarching these a few years later is fun
Videos just got a lot better 💯💯
I love watching videos from the past! lol
Guess I'm not the only light that likes to go back to the past
wade wilson only starts breaking the 4th wall after he become deadpool
Seeing Erik’s newest vids you can really see how his confidence has grown >>>>
I like both movies, keep up the good work
Greetings From 2021! So Awesome!
Well the pizza scene there is one reference i don't get or understand... Where Wade references a "Whose Kitty litter did i just shit in?"
I've been very confused about that too
pretty sure that's just hilarious
I think Wade is talking about a zen sand garden. I'm not sure the connection to the Deadpool comics, but I plugged the terms into google and "Zenpool" came up...
Love these types of videos
at 29:52, same unicorn as the one Boomerang uses in Suicide Squad.
I love these videos.
I hope the voices make it to the sequel
ye i wanna see deadpool's 2 voices argue to each other and deadpool just patiently waits for them to finish
It didn't

Erik: All the people on the Dead Pool are still alive.
The Next day, Arnold Palmer passed away.
Kind of sad and freaky.
Awesome vid!
Damn Rockstars, how is this barely coming out now? I mean I'm appreciative, but damn.
Lol I never pick up on the details but I did for the Monty Python bit
just revisited this vid after watching ANOTHER 2016s Deadpool break down on the same channel in 2024 ive slipped into a paradox but what a smile it bought seeing one of Eriks firsts the progression is beautiful
Yeah now he’s offended by most jokes 🤦♂
fantastic job!!! :D
I’m so hopeful they’ll use the Deadpool series to rebuild the XMen brand via cameos.
The whole DMX line is all three of them... "nonstop, pop-pop, and stainless steel"
nice! this video is excellent
This is a long shot, but given part of the dialogue in the movie is dedicated to throwbacks of characters Mr. Reynolds has played (albeit superheroes), he DID play a 'Mitch' in 2011's The Change Up.
In the movie (at one point) he wields a katana, which he originally learned how to do for Wade Wilson/Deadpool, apparently, in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. There's also a Deadpool poster on his wall. From what I recall, the characters' sense of humor and choice of words are quite similar, too.
...which makes sense given the direction that Origins took the character; Reynolds may have taken some artistic liberties and modeled 'Mitch' after Deadpool, despite his brief appearance as the character.
*First helicarrier gets destroyed*
Nick Fury : 😶😐😑
sooo they knew Kevin Spacey was luring kids into vans before any of us did?
Hahaha this vid is so great! love it
I love your videos!
I could just imagine Ajax having a kid at gun point and deadpool doing the same at a standoff
I know that would have been hilarious lol
24:35 Of course it is !
I remember watching some animated Wolverine movie where Wolverine was called Weapon X and Deadpool came along and started going off about being old friends and remember those times moments.
Great points
